Hello, and welcome to my Goodreads page! I am touched you have taken the time to visit me.
Here's a bit about me. My hubby and I have been married over a decade now. Our family has grown to include two perfect kids, two dogs who think they are humans and a cat who thinks he’s a dog, haha!
Writing has always been something that called to me, or rather being creative in one form or another.
I am so thankful to everyone (and there are a lot!) who has helped me along this journey. Each and everyone of you mean so much to me and I will never forget your love, support and help!
~~May contain spoilers if you have not read Blood Purple~~
The thing about reading a sequel is that you already know the characters and it is easier to get into the book, and that is how I felt about starting Blood Yellow. I met most of the characters in the first book, Blood Purple and this book flows straight on. Zayn is grieving as the two women in his life have turned their backs on him, and he is unsure how to get them back. He is confused as to what he should do and Nasir tries to get him to compose himself, but Zayn is beyond listening to anyone. Things change drastically after that and the drama begins!
Nikole decided to return to the cabin with Alec as she believes he is the man for her. They have been through so much together that she feels comfortable being around him. With the troubles at home, she soon decides to return to try and set things straight again. Alec is shrouded in mystery and Nikole struggles with finding a balance between her feelings for Alec and the duty to her people. Nikole amazes me, with all that she has been through already; she is not afraid to step up to the new challenges when needed.
Zayn began this book a little childish and I wanted to jump into it and slap him so that he would wake up to his senses!! But after a while, he started to step up and be the man and the leader he was born to be. He may be over protective, but he does that for the people that he holds closest to his heart. He is a great person and a fantastic leader to his people.
What I truly love about Ashley’s writing is how she can draw you right into the amazing world that she has produced. She has taken the Algula/Vampires and turned them into super humans. They have beating hearts, they have feelings and compassion. Being an Algula also means that they have a lot of the traits that normal Vampires do, but some of them are able to harness an element as their magic and that is what makes them unique. But they deal with a lot of the same issues that we do and I think that is why I connect to them so well.
Another feature that Ashley is incredible at is creating the Villains. They are some of the most evil people that I have ever read about; they are cold-hearted killers with only revenge on their minds. They have no respect for one another and will trample over anyone that stands in their way. I really hate them, and I have not felt that strongly about villains before! lol
Blood Yellow is a fantastic sequel, one moment things are coasting along calmly and then in the next minute, there is an emotional twist thrown in to change the direction of the story. It’s like being on an emotional merry-go-round! It has that shock factor that leaves you dazed for a few moments before quickly reading on to see what happens next, and then it happens all over again! Ashley writes descriptive bedroom scenes that had things warming up down here in Aus! And when you get to the end, you will be pulling your hair out! Argh!! You can’t end a book like that! What a cliff-hanger!! I am eagerly waiting Blood Green, I tell you!! Awesome work Ashley!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Blood Yellow is the continuation of Ashley Nemer’s debut novel, Blood Purple. It is the second in her Blood series. After just finishing the book, the one thought in my mind right now is WOW. Ms. Nemer has grown so much as a writer from the first to the second book. The plot got deeper, the characters more developed, the story more addictive. The first half of the book dealt with the aftermath of the events in Blood Purple. The more I read, the more hooked I became. By the time I got to the half-way point, I didn’t want to put the book down. While the story is definitely about Ms. Nemer’s own class of vampires, it is much more about family and about the fight for power within this specific family, than anything else. Her strength as a writer is definitely character development.
I was surprised to find myself really liking the bad guys; this seems to be a special talent of Ms. Nemer’s, making the bad guys feel just as reachable and identifiable as the heroes. I was relieved in the growth of both brother and sister, Zayn and Nikole, as they became stronger characters. They truly grew into a hero and heroine the reader could love as they faced their own actions and the events caused by them, and prepared for what the future may hold for them. Just like with Blood Purple, my favorite part of the story was the family dynamics. I absolutely loved how Zayn and Nikole interacted, how Nasir became a more integral part of their family, and how Adara made a place for herself. This holds true as well for the family dynamic between Haydar and Leigh. This evil duo of a father/daughter relationship is one that the reader will love to hate.
My final thoughts as I finished the last chapter were Nooo! Don’t end it there! I want more… I need more! I can’t wait to see what Ms. Nemer has in store for us with Blood Green.
I have great respect for an author that pens their stories in multiple genre. Ashley Nemer is one of these authors.
Blood Yellow picks up three months from the end of Blood Purple. This is woven pretty seamlessly from the previous book, I feel the prologue played the major role in that transition. I know that some readers have a hard time with stories that are written from several points of view but let me say that with this story it brings it all together quite nicely. I love the point of views being divided by chapter because that allowed me to not get lost in the story.
Zayne and Nicole's lives appear to be like any other siblings lives, love one minute and despise the next. You always get the feeling though, that their love for each other will always be stronger. I am fascinated by this vampire race, the Algula, that Ashley has created. Not your stereo typical vampire. They are not immortal, they can be in the sunlight, they fit it with the human race in almost all ways. Pretty much the give away would be their eyes. Such creativity was put into the Algula while she at the same time kept them "real" by using a true language and very realistic background. Some of my favorite aspects of her books up to this point is the reference guides she gives us. The family tree, the glossary, the list of Arabic definitions of the familial references.
I know that when a book can play in my mind like a movie that it is going to be a book I will truly enjoy. This was part 2 of a great movie playing in my mind!! Happy Reading!!
**I received a copy of this book for an honest review**
I'm really enjoying this series! There is some sex in this book, but it's more concentrated on the relationships between the main characters. Haydar and his daughter Leigh are one big bag of crazy, lol. Their vendetta against Zane & Nikole just seems totally insane to me, they think they deserve the crown but show no real leadership qualities. They wage this war out of envy and a believed feeling of superiority. I will admit some scenes with Leigh and Haydar are a bit much for me with the torture and all. Zane & Nikole have a lot of personal differences and hurts to sort through in this installment in the series. Zane is a bit of an overbearing brother and Nikole is trying to show him that she is more than just a little sister, though sometimes she flies off the handle too quickly, they both do actually. I can totally understand this though, anyone who has siblings can, and trying to prove that you’re not the baby everyone thinks you are and overcoming family dynamics can sometimes drive you to rash decisions. I’m looking forward to the next book; I need to see what happens between the siblings and the impending war with Haydar. I’m hoping that Leigh can see the error in her ways and changes for the better, but we shall see. I definitely recommend this series.
I will start by saying I loved this book, it was the perfect follow up to Blood Purple. The characters are heartfelt and real, without the typical stereotypes of vampires or of good versus evil. It's a matter of belief and conviction than a battle between the dark and the light. Nikole's evolution in Blood Yellow was wonderful moving her from merely the little sister out to prove herself to a true champion with her people's welfare in mind. She is impulsive and explosive in temperament, but her motivations are pure. Zayn while not my favorite character (sorry) was so believable I wanted poor Nasir to smack or strangle him. I found that in this sibling equation, the dynamic was wonderful with the familiar tug of war between an older brother and younger sister. My favorite character was Leigh. Intelligent, cunning, and deadly, she does who is not afraid to do what she has to in order to appear strong. Blood Yellow is definitely one I would recommend to anyone who loves the genre and even those who don't. This isn't just another Sequel, it stands on it's own.
If you love falling in love with a character & having it ripped from you in a totally WTF moment then this book is for you.
If you are sick of vamps, but like people fighting for power this is for you.
If you love fun fresh rides then yes this book is for you.
I love this series, this is a great sequel to the first book. In fact you can tell how much the author has grown in this book.
Ms. Nemer has fleshed her characters & the plot even more. When I say the plot thickens that is an understatement.
Honestly I'm not a fan Zayn, but he is what I expect when it comes to a man in power & expects to keep that power.
Haydir is a character you LOVE to hate.
And Leigh oh my goodness she's evil.
I love this series & can't wait for the third book... Which I heard ones out in May.
Don't worry fellow friends I've key Ashley know its unacceptable and you can to... She is available at @AshleyNemer tell her to hurry & get the next out....STAT
BLOOD YELLOW is awesome! If you've read my review of book number one in this series, BLOOD PURPLE, then you know I really liked that book. But as in any series, book number two can be tricky to pull off. But not for Ms. Nemer! BLOOD YELLOW is even richer and more layered than book one and the characters evolve in both a satisfying and riveting way. Second books can drag or seem to wander off track but not this book, it answers so many questions from book one and keeps you turning the page for more. At the end I couldn't wait to read book 3, BLOOD PURPLE. I'm a fan Ms. Nemer!
Ashley has got me hooked on the series. I wanted to slap Zayn, he is so controlling, just like a man and king, don't think that will change. And that is the great thing about books, the ability to have options about the characters. Ashley has accomplished this in this series. Can't wait to get Blood Green. Hayward better not kill the baby!
“Blood Yellow” is not a stand alone book. It picks up three months after the first book ended without laying foundation to clue new readers into the earlier story.
Fantastic.. and a MUST READ !! ~~ Pure excitement all the way through to the end...mixed with a little sadness.. a little Loving...:) Awesome Characters ! ~ Do NOT miss out on this 2nd story of the Blood series.. *anxiously awaiting Blood Green* !!
I know I'm sold in a series when I would love to take the two characters off to the side and bang their heads together and tell them to act their age! Looking forward to the next book...
Oh my kept me reading the end was very frustrating as you wasn't ready for it to end yet. Can't wait for the next one. How much family turmoil can one family overcome.
The sequel to Blood Purple the warring factions of the Vampires Royal Family continues, even more blood and guts. Conflicting rivalries and emotions within each faction complicate they’re lives. It’s all leading to a promising third book in the series how it works out is anybody’s guess.
With so many vampire fiction out there, one can get tired of the unoriginal works and simply give up on these mythical creatures. So what made Blood Yellow unique for me? It was about Arabic vampires. That's right, Arabic vampires. This fact about the book was what had me reading the first one, Blood Purple, and I found myself captivated by it. I was looking forward to reading this next book because I really wanted to know what was going to happen to the characters, especially Zayn, with the way things ended in the first book. Though unexpected things happened that I was not too thrilled about, I found myself devouring the book in one night.
The story had me gripping my e-reader. It continued right after where the first book ended. The first chapter was intense with how Zayn was reacting to his sister and lover leaving. The next chapter then jumped to three months in the future where we came to learn that Zayn disappeared leaving his sister Nikole in charge. There were violent scenes and there were love scenes. Some of the love scenes, especially the bickering between Zayn and whoever he was with, seemed unnecessary. The parts with the villains though was great; in fact, it was a little sickening on how graphic it was. It was obvious that Ms. Nemer's writing improved as the scenes flowed smoothly and how intricate the details were.
In this sequel, the characters were more developed. Zayn showed his weakness and his true self in the way he reacted to things. Nikole proved how strong and intelligent she was even though she suffered a very traumatic event in the first book. Then there was Alec, the vampire that rescued Nikole and became her lover. We come to learn more about his past and we come to shed a few tears for him when reading his fate towards the end. I grew to love Nasir more in this book. He was the father figure for Nikole and Zayn and he was the level-headed one. I wanted to give Nasir a high-five when he put Zayn in his place. Lastly, my favorite character had to be Leigh, the villain. She was beautiful, smart, and very deadly. Though my stomach turned when I read her scenes of torturing others, I couldn't help but admire her strong will to try to accomplish her goals and just how sadistic she was. I mostly enjoyed all of the characters except for one.
Zayn was my least favorite character even though he was the main star in this book. I liked him in the first book and I even felt some sympathy towards him when things started going downhill for him. However, in this book I found myself feeling very irritated by him. He overreacted to everything, wouldn't take responsibility, was a chauvinistic pig, and was a coward. I had to stop reading a few times because I found myself fuming because of his actions. I just couldn't believe that a vampire king who's been alive for hundreds of years would act this way. Fortunately, his actions were not excused. Ms. Nemer made it apparent that the way he acted was plain childish with having Nasir stand up to Zayn. He did redeemed himself a little towards the end though.
To sum up, this sequel was worth the wait even if Zayn disappointed me. I was impressed with Ashley Nemer's improvement of her writing and I found the scenes to be engrossing. I can't wait for the next book because this one ended with a big cliff-hanger.
This book was given to me by PR&ATR and the author for an honest review. A MUST READ!! This book grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. This is just a fast paced, exciting book. I love the way this book starts out exciting and keeps that speed all the way to the end. The way that Ashley makes the vampires different than usual with beating hearts ,dreams ,love and compassion. In book two the characters are more developed and we learn more about them. I really enjoyed the way Zayn and Nikole both go through trials and come out more mature and willing to listen to eachother. I anxiously await book 3. Warning!! this book does have one hell of a cliff hanger.
