This book contains two very different stories. One in the present and one in the past, but both with female main characters. Because they are so different I will review them separately.
The Painted gate
It's a very nice story that, in my opinion, definitely could work for a novella or even a book. I really do not like the chosen title though. Because for me, it already had given away a large part of the plot of the story, even before I read it. That was really a bummer and does not do the quality of the story justice.
How Guinevere met Arthur
I first thought, why give it this title, already announcing, just like the other story in this book, the plotline. But it turned out to be a little misleading, probably maybe even on purpose. Since it's only a very little part of the story. The story is mostly about Guinevere, who is a warrior, and covers a short period of her life. It's written in an all-knowing narrator style in present tense (not past tense like most books), which takes some getting used to.
This Short Story Anthology is amazing, three amazing authors twist stories from classic literature such as the yellow wallpaper, a tail of Arthurian legend fallowing lady Guinevere, and the polar express but in space.
