I should admit my bias from the start - I helped with the process of editing this book. And I'm related to the author. But I genuinely believe in the importance of this book and its message so I hope you'll take the time to read my thoughts.

It's a deeply personal book, an overflow of a life radically transformed by the love of God, informed by a deep understanding of the Scriptures, and motivated by more than 20 years of ministry walking closely with young people in Uganda, East Africa.

Many times books written for an US audience are used for ministry in countries with very different cultures and needs. This book has the opposite flow: it was written for an urban, East African audience - and is most relevant and poignant for that audience - but has proved impactful to many throughout the world, including the US.

The message of the book is simple: If you truly understand God's heart for you, it changes everything. Not "understand" as a doctrinal truth, but as a lived experience. It's a book to read prayerfully, and with an open heart.

The early chapters wet your appetite, giving you a longing to really know God's love, and describing the potential of a real relationship with Him.
Then the book addresses several obstacles that keep us from truly encountering the love of God: the weight of family pain, the weight of the world's expectations, and the weight of religious burdens.
Throughout we get a picture of God as Father, through passionate exposition of the scriptures and many personal stories.

This book doesn't just tell you what you should believe, but introduces you to a Person you could know - and know more deeply.

If you're thinking, "well, I already know God loves me," consider Paul's prayer for the Ephesians (a highly mature church) that they would know more fully the love of God - "how high, and how wide, and how deep, and how long" - so that they would "be filled to all the fullness of God." There's always more. If this stirs in you even a little bit of longing (or perhaps fear!), give this book a read. It's not long and it's not difficult, but it might just change the way you see God, the people around you, and yourself.
