I did not like this book because I really do not like twisters. I enjoyed this book because I liked the part when the people who wrote the book told me about twisters (tornados).
This book started with a short story about a farmers ordeal with a tornado. The story helped ease the way into the informational portion of the book. The book was full of facts and safety measures for those of us who have to deal with tornadoes. I liked the book in the straightforward way it warned of the danger of tornadoes and further illustrated the dangers with actual event.
Levels for children's books are as o different, the words in this were higher than other Level 2 books but we did ok. It's an interesting topic, following a school project and this book was helpful.
Used this in a guided reading group during practicum and it was so much fun to read with my group. They loved learning about twisters. There are so many different lessons to teach using this book. I used the KWL chart and sequence of events. I also taught cause and effect with this book. Students really enjoyed this book and learned a lot. It was fun to learn with them as well.
