Eddie Holland left the FBI after ten years in counter terrorism, exhausted and ready for a change. After returning home to Austin, Texas, he starts taking private detective jobs. He's hired to find Peter Miller, a network security expert who works for a government contracting company. But Eddie's search uncovers much more than a missing man and finds his family in danger.
John H. Matthews is a writer, designer and independent publishing consultant living in the suburbs of Washington, DC, with his wife and son. He was born in New York City, grew up in Arkansas and has lived all across the country, from New York to San Francisco to Dallas.
I only read this because I liked the author. Turns out I was right. Again an excellent story with great characters which moved at a cracking pace and didn't get boring.
From the first sentence, the plot pulls you into a fast-paced story that doesn't slow until the last word. At times you're not sure whether you're reading a spy thriller or the morning newspaper. At a time when the manipulation of electronic data is uppermost in our national consciousness, a book like this emerges which resounds with the ins and outs of international espionage, dirty money, crooked politicians, love, sex, murder and mayhem. It's a great story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and yet is very human at the same time.
The story begins when our hero, a federal agent on hiatus from his normal routine, is asked by his sister to investigate a missing persons incident involving the CEO of her company. From that point on, the story launches like a rocket with a plot involving good guys and bad guys in a race to find a killer, unravel the plot and ensure the security and ethics of our government.
Watched this young author grow up and actually saw his home's spectacular wall to wall, floor to ceiling organized collection of books. It's no wonder that he has become one of today's best novelists. I thoroughly enjoyed reading both South Coast and Ballyvaughan and am looking forward to more of these fast paced, sit on the edge of your seat Eddie Holland books and anything else he decides to write. Excellent work by a very fine author!!
More action while on leave from FBI than on active service
This book had me in suspense not wanting to put it away. Very intriguing and fast moving. Eddie (agent) would not stop until he had to invade political criminals and bring them to justice. Highly recommend to other mystery fans.
There are few things better than a full throttle fast paced action thriller and Matthews has managed to write it on every page. It kicks off fast and doesn’t stop until the ride is over. Please exit to your right and rearrange your hair. This was great and I read it in one quick setting.
Smooth, flowing, engaging, thoughtfully written. Once I started reading I did not want to put it down . I will definitely be looking for more of Mr. Matthews books to read.
Another great book by John Matthews. Still don't like the he said-she said, but after a while you don't notice it. Love the characters. By the end of the book you know their qwerks, clothing style, cars, and lifestyles.
