“I’m not selling Black Magic.” She was surprised to hear tears in her voice as she reached out a hand to pat the bull’s muzzle. Magic shied away, as well he should have.
“You sound like you could use a drink,” he said.
Moira paused. She fussed over Black Magic unnecessarily for a moment and turned her back to the man as she exited the stall. Was he hitting on her? She wasn’t sure. Her years of commitment to the ranch and her small herd had left her with little time for dating.
When she turned, he was standing with coat drawn back and his left thumb slung carelessly in a belt loop. She caught a gleam of gold on his third finger. He saw her pointed glance and smiled.
“The wife is back at the bar,” he assured her. “She’d like to meet you if you’re interested in a little friendly conversation.”
Moira hesitated. A drink sounded heavenly. Socializing did not.
The drink won out. One surely would not hurt, and might even help.
“I’m in,” she agreed, and held out one hand. “Moira.”
“Adrian.”
She’d been right. Sparks.
