Everyone in this book was dealing with the pressures of living in a small town and trying to manage the expectations of family and legacy. Jolene felt like that she was stuck in place in a love less marriage with Dale. Ruud was struck in a loveless marriage with his wife. The ending was a surprised to me.

Jolene was so hellbent on proving Dorethea wrong that she made one of the worst decisions in her life but I get it because this was also about her proving everyone else wrong. Greta like many other women is more upset with the other woman vs the person she took vows with. She could've chosen to not go through with the marriage but she was blinded by greed. I hope she gets everything coming to her.
