Joel (Godzilla) and Hayden's Story

Hayden went to adopt a cat from a kindly witch, who promptly gave her a small kitten named Godzilla and told her that he had been waiting for her.

Fast forward a year, as Hayden is leaving a restaurant to get away from a "grabby hands" date. Hayden wants to get home to her cat before he tears up the curtains again, so she calls a friend for a ride. In front of the restaurant she is approached by a gorgeous naked man, who knows her name and claims to be her cat Godzilla, but says his mother named him Joel. Although Joel knows some personal things about her, Hayden is still reluctant to believe his story. Then Joel shifted into a cat right in front of her, and Hayden decided to take a leap of faith and believe him.

Back at their townhouse, Joel is explaining things to Hayden as she is trying to deal with all the changes in her pet cat. Joel catches some shadows outside where there shouldn't be any, and he realizes that after his public shift in front of the restaurant it's likely those who hunt shifters have found him.

The story moves at a fast pace, and doesn't slow down. Together they find they have new enemies and they make friends in the most unexpected of places. Hayden eventually realizes that while the appearance of her cat changed, he's still the same cat she loves.
Together, they find true love.

Both Hayden and Joel were likeable characters. Despite the story moving quickly, Hayden had believable reactions for the circumstances. The attraction between them was believable and their sex was hot. They are a great couple and I was rooting for them to have a HEA together.

My only critical note is that because the story is so short, there are a lot of unanswered questions in the story. Hopefully more will be revealed in future stories in this series.

I've read the 2nd book in this series (regrettably, out of order) and I liked it a lot. I look forward to reading more of this series and possibly to read some of the author's other books.

Thank you, Megan Slayer and Cletis Publishing, for this free ebook that I won in a contest/giveaway.
First off, the public is aware that supernatural creatures, like witches and shapeshifters, exist but not much is known about them other than legends. They usually keep to themselves but some have intergraded into the everyday world.
Hayden Crowe adopts a black kitten from a known witch on Halloween night. Jump forward a year… Hayden angrily leaves her date at a restaurant on Halloween. She needs to go home to check on her cat, Godzilla, before he tears up the curtains. Again. She comes face-to-face with a gorgeous naked man outside the restaurant. He claims that his name is Joel, he is her cat, he knows more about her than any stranger would, and he claims to love her. This, of course, throws poor Hayden into a crazy fit but she feels a connection to him.
While I really enjoyed this short story, I have a few questions. Certain aspects of Joel’s cat life didn’t make sense and, when an explanation was given, it still left me confused—like how he knew about and had met other shifters (before he left the witch’s home or afterward?—I don’t know). He did things that a person who had only been in human-form for a few hours couldn’t do or wouldn’t know how to do. He watched, listened and studied the world around him for the entire year that he was cat-form but he still seemed too intelligent to me.
Overall, the story is cute, sexy and awesome. I enjoyed it.
