Rate this book

About the author

Rachel Bright

Rachel is a writer of words, drawer of pictures and champion of silver linings. She exhibits widely, writes tirelessly and frequently creates slightly unhinged characters.

Her written work includes children’s stories and poems, clever advertising copy and lots of other stuff besides. Her illustrative work is a smorgasboard of giant, hand-printed poems, mind-bogglingly detailed gouache illustrations and a cacophony of quirky prints and etchings.

She explores the lovliness of words and the magic of pictures, revelling in a world of jam-eating miniature bears and other made-up animals.

Her work aims to capture a free way of thinking - one which makes you feel anything is possible, a feeling all too easily lost with the end of childhood. When we’re all grown-up, sometimes we just need a little nudge to remember it’s been there all along.

*Rachel has also been an air hostess, a garden designer and a lifeguard. She often runs a really long way and was once invited to the selection of the British ultra running team. She also once won a date with Man of the millennium and has been trying to live it down ever since.

Such a cute book! I read it to my kindergarten class—it’s a great book for helping children understand their emotions and that it’s okay to have bad days sometimes.

Stompysaurus wakes from a happy dream, until things go wrong. His stomps and roars rise inside him…

But a tricky start doesn’t have to mean a stompy finish.

Our young Stompysaur gets cross at breakfast and scares off all his friends, before finding some counsel from a “Battosaur” up in the trees.

“In life, you see, my Stompysaur, there’ll always be that day,
Where everything turns back-to-front and nothing feels ok...

But take a breath, then blow it out..
Slow down. Make space. Untangle.
Try looking at the problem, from another sort of angle.”

Lovely, lovely book for every wee dinosaurus about feelings. And I especially love these warm illustrations; I’m not at all shy to tell you I have collected every single version of this from @definitelybookskids 😂😍

I was that worried when I join the new chess club in year two I was worried that I didn’t want to go to my club because stumpy so so that he was so worried and so mad that’s why he stopped so much in the story that he was like very very, very, very mad that he scared all of his best friends in the whole wide world, his friends that he plays with sometimes and his friends hide behind a bush because his friends are very scared of stumpy over us.

Stompysaurus has a meltdown after an upsetting morning.

Young readers will relate to the frustration of younger siblings, the disappointment of being served food they don't like, and the pain of stumbling a toe.

The story shows means of regaining emotional control (deep breathing) and reflecting upon one's behavior by looking at the situation from other's point of view, thinking about how to react to similar situations in the future, and apologizing.

I might need to keep this one a little longer for my niece. Who’s really gotten into dinosaur and also has a tendency to get very emotional very quickly. This would be entertaining at a story time. The book rhymes well, it has a nice cadenc,e and the illustrations are bright and colorful. Altogether, this is a great book that I could see being at storytime for the next 20+ years.

A charming story about a dinosaur that struggles to express his feelings without stomping around and yelling. I enjoyed the illustrations. My toddler noticed that the worrysaurus was in one of the pictures, so it was a fun callback to Bright's other book.

Another wonderful dinosaur book!
It’s okay to have bad days. But what can you do to keep calm?
Something for everyone especially those little siblings who may not always get along.

I love this Dino series from Rachel Bright! I love that the little rhino beetle is on every page of Stompysaurus's adventures. A great story and also helps provide solutions. Love that.
