When his charred remains are found inside his remote cabin it's clear that the murderer is someone in his inner circle.

His clone only has a matter of days to unravel the mystery before he loses the vast fortune he spent his entire life, the first one, building. As he uncovers his previous life's transgressions, the people he trusted most may have some unsavory opinions about clones. Jonathan must take his investigation into his own hands to have a chance at life.

Fantastic, fast paced, full of mystery and great twists!
This was a fascinating journey following Jonathan Sendel, a wealthy celebrity writer who was murdered and brought back as a clone to solve his own death.
Along the way we discover multiple suspects, secrets, scandals and cover ups, alongside the controversy over clones. The new Jonathan struggles to unlock his memories, battles rejection from his loved ones, and starts to unwrap a web of deception that has him questioning everything, including who he was.
This story had me gripped, it's a great mystery sci-fi thriller, and I loved the ending.

Read if you like the vibes of 'minority report', 'the island' and 'the 6th day' .

A beautiful blend of murder mystery and science fiction. Once you think you know “who done it” you get blind sided by twist after twist. A compelling story you won’t want to put down.

Well, this is something else! One of the best books I have read this year. Clever, exciting and fun, ‘The Second Life of Jonathan Sendel’ is an absolute rollercoaster of science fiction perfection. I read this novel so quickly because I couldn’t put it down and I really couldn’t work out what was going to happen. The twists and turns in this novel were so rewarding and I just didn’t want it to end. If you love Science Fiction and also murder mysteries then you need to read this book.

Here is my review for The Second Life Of Jonathan Sendel by Jeffrey Ashkin

This is a fantastic book to read but it does make you wonder if this could happen in the future? I got into this story straight away right from the start and loved the idea that the author Jeffrey Ashkin has used his imagination to think up and write about. The murder of Jonathan Sendel and then setting his property alight is being looked into by the police. He wanted to be brought back to life by cloning so he could assist in the investigation into his death and engage with the police but when things weren’t going well, he decided to go rogue and go out on his own to solve it. He had to get over his own demons if he wanted to get anywhere. That’s where he learnt about some of his friends' feelings toward cloning. This is a great read with the murder angle going on and the cloning aspect as well. Jonathan learns a lot about himself too. The writing is superb and the plotting is brilliant. The author has used his imagination well to write this book and it shows throughout the book. The whole aspect of cloning opens a whole new world and feelings like what you think of it? Would you do it? Why are you against it? Can you afford it? I think I would read more books by Jeffrey Ashkin.

The Second Life of Jonathan Sendel by Jeffrey Ashkin.
I really did enjoy this book. I did like the cover and blurb. This was different and unique. Very twisty. Parts surprised me. I wasn't sure about the characters. I had a theory, but I was so wrong. I didn't really have any favourite characters, but there was some that I really didn't like. Nolan being one. I really didn't trust him from the start. I really didn't expect that. My jaw dropped to the floor. I liked the ending. 4*.

Great story, masterfully written.

This book is hard to classify - part who-dunnit, part romance, and part character interspective. It has more twists and turns than the Le Mans. And it is just as exciting a ride.

Brilliantly written to handle the layered nuances of the plot. This story does not stop from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down.

The who-dunnit is not obvious, and those who enjoy that type of read will love this story.

Likewise, the romance is sweet, and I found myself cheering the little family on throughout.

The character introspection, however, was the piece for me. The story uses cloning as a vehicle to explore the protagonist's changing perceptions of self as he unravels the memories of his life. From his earliest innocent intentions to the world weary version he becomes. So subtle, so well done.

This is not a typical freshman writer book. The writing is mature and insightful.

I was instantly drawn into the story. Once there, nothing about the storyline or the writing threw me out, ever.

I hope to see a lot more from this author!

Can you imagine waking up and not knowing what's going on, and then realising that you're not really you but a clone of your former self who was murdered! Oh yeah, and you still only be allowed to continue to live as a clone of you help the police solve your murder! Well, that's what happens to Jonathan in this fast paced futuristic thriller.

This book somehow seems so impossibly futuristic that I can't see it ever becoming a reality; and yet at the same time feeling incredibly possible. The characters were all well rounded, believable and realistic. The writing was exciting and engaging, with short chapters that I raced my way through.

This book threw up some ethical dilemmas for me. Would I support cloning if it were possible? Would I support the temporary cloning of murder victims to catch their killers? I think the answer is ultimately "no" but it's an interesting thought experiment!

I love a book that has an author as a character, a book within a book aspect. I liked getting snippets of the Starlight books and would like to read them myself!

I've read a few sci-fi books but sci-fi murder mystery is a new one for me! I like how Jonathan is portrayed, how the time line jumps and how the storyline flows through the different years. I feel for Hannah, I'm not sure how I'd react in her situation!

Imagine being in a world where you could be brought back as a clone when you pass. With a difference, in the fact you can chose your new name, possibly a new direction in your new life or go back to how your previous life was. There is a catch though, only the rich can achieve this as it's expensive. Nolan at the Memory Bank can help but all is not what it seems. Who can you really trust?

I liked the twist and would recommend this as it was an enjoyable read.

This has everything; murder, corruption, exploitation, love, fear, medical advances, hate crimes, segregation, affairs, fame & fortune!!
What a story, face paced so got through this in less than a day.
Jonathon Sendel is murdered and he has himself cloned so they can come back and find his killer. 440 is that clone, as he works his way back through the days leading up to Jonathon’s murder he uncovers so much more and Johnathon isn’t the man he thought he was!!
Twist and turns throughout, I didn’t expect the ending but then when I got to it I through back to certain “clues” in the story that I simply overlooked and was like “ahhhhhh yeah that makes sense!” Multiple stories from multiple personalities of Jonathon will keep you scratching your head and try to focussed on who is who haha!
Recommending this one for something a bit different.

From the very beginning of this novel, you are taken on a very intriguing journey with many twists and turns. I really enjoyed this thriller and it has an ending that I didn’t expect and yet kicked myself for not even considering it as a potential outcome to the story.

the premise of the story is that Jonathon Sendel’s clone wakes up at Memory Bank following the murder of the original Jonathon. His job, before he is given back his freedom to live like a human, is to solve his own murder. As the story unfolds nothing is as it seems leading to a very clever ending.

The author does a good job at not only creating an excellent thriller but also throwing in thought-provoking debates around, should cloning happen, are clones human or not. The novel touches on cultural divides and terrorism against the clones who are seen as wrong in the eyes of many.

A very thought-provoking, exciting, and intriguing thriller that I enjoyed from page one.

This has been one of the fast 300-odd paged books I've read in a while.

Jeffery definitely doesn't ease you into the book, instead he prefers to throw you in at the deep end.

The story follows Johnathan Sendel's clone as he helps police solve his murder.

This book is quite literally a rollercoaster ride from the moment you start reading. You think you've sussed out the murderer and then all of a sudden... nope, it's someone else!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and just devoured it in a single sitting. The writing style is fantastic and really hooks you.

Jeffery also raises so many ethical questions, such as how far should science truly go?

I can not recommend this book enough, and I hope we see more of these characters in the future!

An easy read. An intriguing premise: a clone who has to solve it's own murder. If not solved he will get terminated.

It started out fun.
The usual suspects.
But then improbable twists and turns made the book feel rushed. Like the author did not really know how to end this.
The usual revelations in these sort of books did come up here too. The unexpected, expected happens. Not recommended for seasoned readers of this kind of books.

It reminded me a bit of The Punch Escrow. by Tal M. Klein. But that was a better story.

This book exceeded my expectations! In the not too distant future you can be brought back to life for the purpose of finding your murderer. This causes a lot of ethical issues and the clones are treated differently. Jonathan has to deal with all of that and find out who killed him. I didn’t want to oh this book down. The light sci-fi element is written perfectly. I loved this book and will definitely be reading more of this authors work.

Once I picked this book up I could not put it down! What a read, so easy to get into and not put down until the early hours.

I loved the theme of cloning and the moral (and legal) repercussions, it really got me thinking how I would feel about my loved ones being cloned and indeed how I’d feel being cloned.

The genre of crime and mystery is always up my street and the main reason I opted to read this book - I certainly was not disappointed.

I absolutely loved this book! It was such a page turner with a unique story. Featuring murder, clones and plenty of thriller mystery. The story is fast paced and keeps your attention, you've no idea what's going to happen next and I loved that it's set in the not too distant future. Away from the action and thrill there is also the ethical dilemma that comes with an ability to create clones on earth. All round brilliant book, I would totally recommend to any thriller and sci-fi readers.

I found that this was a really unique story, where the murdered can be brought back as a clone and are teamed up with a detective to solve their murder once they do, they can have there old life back! I really liked 441 previously known as Jonathan Sendel and like how his former life was revealed! I did find some parts a bit predictable but enjoyed the twist at the ending and overall enjoyed the story.

Thank you @lovebookstours for the copy of The Second Life of Jonathan Sendel. This was such a unique plot and cool premise. It combined multiple genres, thriller, sci fi, mystery. I also liked how through Johnathan’s clone, you got to know who he was and his relationships to the other characters. It was interesting to see how the different people close to him reacted to him coming back as a clone. You would think most people would see it as a positive that their loved one was back, but not all did. I thought the science fiction aspect and the cloning was cool, but the mystery was also gripping. It was unpredictable and you didn’t know what would happen until the end.

This a unique plot line. It’s well done. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and recommend it. One caveat: the story includes aspects that are gross and gory. It’s not gratuitous, but just think be should be forwarded. I could not watch a move of the book, by I could handle the way those aspects are treated.

An interesting premise that deals with the morality and legality of potential human cloning in the future with a plot that keeps twisting and ends strong. Equal parts sci-fi and murder mystery. Give it a read!

Original sci-fi, immediately engaging

The story grabbed me within the first five pages and kept me reading the whole book in one sitting. Clear prose and a solid vision of vulnerable human qualities brings a fresh take on clones. Highly recommended.

Well, I really enjoyed this fast-paced thriller/sci-fi book!
While the theme was one often explored, especially in films, I really enjoyed this take on clone and the ethical ramifications.
It's the seemingly eternal (eternal? not sure, but it seems right to say it here 😊) question of whether or not cloning is morally acceptable, and if clones are even human beings and/or should be considered separate individuals from their originals. I found the actual plot very enjoyable, and the character's journey kept me entertained throughout the book. This was definitely a different view on the status of clones in society and how they can be used for personal gain (no spoiler), and I was here for it.
Definitely recommend for fans of sci-fi!

It's honestly one of my favourite books this year so far. 'The Second Life of Jonathan Sendel' is a combination of thriller and sci-fi. Jonathan wokes up like Neo in The Matrix. He was murdered, but now his clone was made. To get his life back, he has to solve his own murder... Doesn't it sound amazing already? I recommend to not read blurb before reading. Just go straight to the book! Blurb contains a big spoiler, and I'm so glad I haven't lurked at it before I took my Kindle 🙃
I promise it's getting better and better with every page. I just couldn't stop reading and I will do it again. It will be an interesting journey now that I know everything.
Amazing, unique book. Congratulations Jeffrey Ashkin, for real. I cannot wait for whatever you write next!

The Second Life of Jonathan Sendel is my first book by Jeffrey Ashkin. This twist filled, sci fi thriller gave me way more than I expected. Actually, I had no idea what I was getting into, but I ended up loving it. The day is July 26, 2083 and the famed, multi million dollar author Jonathan Sendel is waking in a room, under circumstances that he cannot understand. He finds out very quickly that he is dead and that he has been cloned in order to solve his own murder. Yes – you read that correctly. He signed the papers away prior to his death so that if he died under mysterious circumstances that he could be cloned to solve a crime. In 2083, clones are commonplace.
In order to get his life back and no longer be called a clone, Jonathan must follow the rules, work with a detective and solve his murder. Unfortunately things are what they appear to be. He is unable to tell who to trust, some memories are coming back fuzzy and he doesn’t understand what is happening. All of these pieces will come together. The best part is, just when you think that you are sailing along and have this book figured out….. here comes the punch in the gut and the real story will come fast and furious. Kudos to Jeffrey Ashkin for giving us an unputdownable murder mystery with twists and a memorable ending!

This was a very interesting concept for a book as Cloning is one of those taboo settings for people to read about - it is either for them or not. Well this was for me and i couldn't put the book down. I think I read this one maybe two settings - starting this at 11am yest and finishing it at 1am this morning. I loved the way that this was handled and it showed all viewpoints on this practice and the availability/accessibility of this for the population (rich vs poverty). Our main character 441 (Jonathan Sendal Clone) is very charismatic and finds out the truth at the same time as we do - and this is done spectacularly as story is based over 1 week duration. I would love a follow up novella giving us and insight into what happened next.

I found myself completely absorbed in this book, particularly captivated by the section involving the clones, which was my main draw. The suspense surrounding the mystery of Jonathan Sendel's murder and how his clone, referred to as '441,' played a crucial role in uncovering the truth kept me eagerly turning the pages.

Initially, I wasn’t fond of Jonathan due to his questionable past, but as the narrative unfolded, I started to sympathise with him. It was disheartening to see how much the public despised clones, and I felt a sense of pity for ‘441’ as he faced the fallout from his former life. Although there were moments in the story that felt a bit predictable, I still found it engaging and enjoyable.
