It takes a spy to know one. . .
Seven years ago, former Mossad Agent Ellie Jamison barely escaped from her Syrian captors.
They’d killed her fiancé, Daniel. Ellie always believed someone from inside Mossad was responsible and so she’d changed her name, her appearance, and fled to the United States where she’d disappeared. Ellie has spent the last seven years of her life looking over her shoulder expecting her dangerous past to catch up with her. She ends up on Hope Island in desperate need of the promise the town’s name invokes.
As the newest member of the Hope Island Securities team, Boone Langston knows a spy just by looking into their eyes. And Ellie’s reflects awful things . . . just like his. He’d spent most of his military career as a Navy SEAL working for the CIA’s Special Operations Unit. And the past three years trying to forget everything what he’d saw.
When he accidentally runs into Ellie at the small Hope Island coffee shop, the look in her eyes, the constant scanning of the foot traffic in front of the shop, seems to hint Ellie is living the nightmare as well . . . until Ellie’s past catches up with her removing all doubt.

This novel is intriguing and absolutely captivating as I followed Ellie on her escape to Hope Island, only to find that once again she has been found and is in danger. The action and adventure starts from the first page and continues to escalate all the way to the surprising reveal at the end. Ellie is a former member of Mossad, Israeli intelligence, who has been betrayed and is running for her life, but she doesn’t know who wants her dead…Syrians, other Mossad agents, or someone else? Whoever it is, they are relentless in their pursuit of her and seems to always be able to find her no matter how careful she is. When she arrives at Hope Island, she is optimistic that in this little town, she can relax a bit and even work at the local cafe to try to replenish her funds. When she is once again accosted by unknown assailants there, she is persuaded by her new friend Boone to trust the Hope Island Securities Team with her secrets and her future safety. The characters are believable and realistically portrayed, showing the author’s detailed research into organizations like Mossad and the CIA. The plot is fast-paced, rushing at a breakneck speed to a killer climax that had my heart in my throat. With non-stop action, a compelling story and a budding romance, this story had all of the elements I enjoy in a good book, especially the fact that faith undergirds the drama in Ellie’s life. I highly recommend this novel that can be read and thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone.

Wow! The main problem with this book is it ended too soon. and yet I wanted to find out the end faster.
Ellie is hiding and running from really bad guys. She has been on the run for 7 years since her fiancee was killed and she was almost killed. Can she find who killed him and why? Boone realizes she is on the run and offers to help. Will she trust him to help her? Can she? Can they figure out what is going on and stop her life on the run?

Lots of action with twists and turns. I didn't figure out who was trying to set her up until the ending - it was a surprise! Great read!

Mary Alford has delivered an excellent book with two intriguing main characters, Ellie and Boone. I couldn't put it down because it was action packed and thrilling from start to finish.

If you haven't read any of the books in the Hope Island Securities series, start with this one. I'm sure you'll love it and will rush to read the other books in the series.

Loved it!
The prologue is a great introduction to a great story.
It’s a page turner that I didn’t want to end.
Boone Langston Navy Seal working for the CIA’s Special Operations Unit. He knows right away that Ellie is also much more than a coffeehouse barista! He can see it in her eyes and her actions.
This is a high paced action read. With twist and turns. Along with some romance.

I highly recommend this quick read. Did it in less than a day because I couldn’t put it down.

Thanks to Mary Alford for this ARC in return for my honest review.

Mary Alford’s books just get better and better. This was a hard to put down book. I did not even begin to think how the story would end. If you like a fast pace book with lots of adventures around every corner, this book is a most read for you.
Boone Langston was a Navy Seal working for the CIA’s Operations Unit until he recently moved to Hope Island trying to leave his past behind. He recently started working with the Hope Island Securities.
Ayla Galante known as Ellie runs into Boone in front of the Hopeful Coffeehouse. He looks into her eyes and knows she has a dark secret or running from someone or something by the constant looking around her and being evasive when he tries to speak to her.
Ellie is on the run after seeing her finance murdered. Someone is trying to pin the murder on her. She has been running for seven years and they keep finding her.
Can Ellie trust Boone with her past life? Will he turn her in to the law?

Covert Past drew me in immediately with the heart-pounding prologue and kept me reading anxiously to the surprising, satisfying end. This sixth book in the exciting Hope Island Securities series features ex-Mossad agent heroine Ellie Jamison (aka Ayla Galante) and private detective hero Boone Langston, the newest member of the Hope Island Securities Team. Suspense runs high as Ellie and Boone search to find the truth about Ellie’s past which includes accusations of murder and treason. Violent forces of nature intensify the suspense. A well-paced plot filled with action and danger, relatable characters, slow-burn romance, and a strong faith thread with themes of hope and trust combine to make an enjoyable, entertaining read. I love the awesome Hope Island Securities Team and look forward to reading the next book in the series!

It’s no wonder Mary Alford has become one of my favorite authors and Hope Island Securities has become one of my favorite series.

Boone gets his story with Covert Past. As a Navy SEAL working for the CIA, he recognizes that Ellie is probably one, too.

Covert Past is definitely one of my favorite stories in this series. Each story gets better and better.

I received an advanced reader’s copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

COVERT PAST by Mary Alford is the fabulous FIVE STAR action packed story of Boone Langston and Ayla Galante, aka Ellie Jamison.

With his past experience as a Navy Seal working for the CIA’s Special Operations Unit, Boone can recognize a spy when he sees one. That’s what he observes the first time he saw Ellie. He can also see the fear in her eyes – that of being hunted. Events confirm that and he just can’t turn away without offering his help.

Ayla’s been on the run for seven years. She would have never thought that the Mossad, where she’s worked for some time and given her all, would turn their back on her accusing her of both killing the man she loved, but also defected her alliances. She was left with nowhere to turn but to run – from false prosecution and those out to kill her for treasonous reasons. She’s packed her few belongs into one bag and moved numerous times when they had gotten too close changing her name, her appearance and started over. This last time she remade herself as Ellie Jamison. She’s just arrived on Hope Island, Maine and just started a job as a barista in the Hopeful Coffee House. Is it possible she can be safe here?

Ellie is still numb over the death of the man she thought she would spend the rest of her life with. Finding it hard to trust or let her guard down, is it possible that this man called Boone can be believed when he says he wants to help? Can anyone help her? When it appears that she’s been found out and weather on the island prevents a means of escape does she have a choice? Is it possible that they can each help the other heal from past events? Who can they trust? How can they prove Ellie’s innocence? Will those chasing her finally give her some clues as to what happened? Will it be too late in coming?

COVERT PAST is an amazing, fast paced story that will have your quickly turning the pages as your try to find clues to the answers to prove Ayla’s innocent and for her to stay alive in the process. It is a story of finding peace with the past, surviving the present and daring to dream about a future – one without constant danger. Through it all, there’s learning to trust, turning loose of control in order to allow others to help and the bloom of a sweet romance. Mary Alford gives us a spine-tingling story of danger, adventure, developing friendships and releasing the past in order to have a future. COVERT PAST is an amazing FIVE STAR addition to the A HOPE ISLAND SECURITIES series, but can most definitely be read as a standalone book.

I receive an ARC of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

This is the 6th book in the Hope Island Securities series but can be read as a standalone book.

This is an action packed book for the very first chapter. This tells the story of Ayla Galante (AKA Ellie Jamison) a former Mossad agent and Boone Langston an ex-military and CIA Special Operations unit.

Ellie moves to Hope Island running for her life for the past seven years for being accused as being a Syrian spy and murdering her partner and meets Boone and decides Hope Island may be the place to finally settle down.

Ellie and Boone work together along with the other team members of Hope Island Securities to figure out the truth so Ellie can finally stop running. I sure didn’t see that ending coming.

This is the first book of the series that I have read so now I will have to read the others in the series if they are as good as this one.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. The review expressed here is my honest opinion.

Loved this book!! Ellie meets Boone when she decides to settle in Hope Island, Maine. For seven years, she's been running, trying to stay ahead of the ones looking for her. She's not sure if it's Mossad that will find her, or if it's someone else. Boone recognizes the shadows in Ellie's eyes, as he's seen the same ones in his own. When he offers to help, no one is more surprised than Ellie when she agrees. Now, will Boone and his new team from Hope Island Securities be able to keep Ellie safe and find out just what they want from her? And, will Ellie be able to accept what she ever finds out? Love how Boone depends on God, and how Ellie opens herself to come to know the God her people have worshipped for centuries. Ellie learns that not only can she trust Boone, she can trust God, and can see how He's had His hand on her.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

It may sound dumb to admit what drew me to this series was the lighthouses on the covers. Plus I had read the author's books and knew she was good.

This one started out differently than the other books in the series....or should I say started out in a different location: Tel Aviv, Israel. And the main female of the story was a former Mossad agent on the run.

The book was a great read with plenty of suspense and drama. I wasn't totally surprised at the one part at the end of the book, as my mind had gone there....but I wasn't sure enough and was a bit surprised.

Ellie and Boone were awesome characters, as were the rest of the team that has appeared in the other books.

Special thanks to the author for an advance copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Ellie has been on the run for many years, always looking over her back. Waiting for the moment she will be found and killed. For the past she still does not understand, and is looking for the answers. Until she runs into Boone Langston, ex military and CIA Special Operations Unit with past issues of his own he is working on.
Together will they be able to to unravel the mysterious past and will Ellie be able to lot go so she can have a future?
This is a action packed page turner that will have you wanting to know what happens next!! Mary Alford never disappoints when it comes to bringing characters to life!!
I loved this book!!! This book can be read as a stand alone however if your like me, you'll be reading them all!!

She had one shot to save her life.

Ayla Galante is a member of Mossad, accused of being a Syrian spy and of murdering her partner. Only problem — she didn't do either of these things. But somehow, she has been on the run since 2017! New names, location changes and even different jobs have not kept her from being pursued.

Hope Island, Maine seems like a place that one can safely hide. But will they find her here? Hope Island Securities gets into protection detail when things start to go south…. But how do they continue to find her and who is behind it all?

The author has done it again! You will not set this book aside. It is full of suspense, ongoing danger and even betrayal. An early copy was received through BookFunnel. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

I received this book as an ARC with no expectations of a positive review. Ellie came to Hope Island to try to recover and hideout. She has been running and hiding for seven years. She does not trust anyone. Ellie is running low on money. She has to find a job. There is a help wanted sign in the window of Hopeful Coffeehouse. Ellie has never been a barista before. She was not sure if she could do the job or not. As she is wondering if it was safe to go inside, she runs into Boone. Boone is a former CIA agent. He works for Hope Island Securities. It does not take long for Boone to realize that Ellie is a spy and needs help. Join them on this edge of your seat suspense. You will never see the end coming.

Covert Past.
Mary Alford.

We have cia special operation units in this story. A coffee shop. Ellie who's hiding out from the bad guys. Hasn't seen her family for 7 years.
Sometimes, life on the run isn't always what you want, but sometimes it's what you have to do.

Ellie, has a lot going on, but coming face to face with the truth. Will simply blow your mind.

This book had a lot of action. This author definitely keeps you on your toes. I really enjoy reading stories by mary alford.

Some of the parts in the book that I really liked was when the pig showed up.
Simply loved everything about the story, but the pig well, I like pigs so that was a bonus.

I've read a few books by this author and i've enjoyed each story.

From the first page, I did a deep dive into this book full of suspense and whodunit’s.
Ellie is a spy that has taken on a new identity. She has a target on her back and she wants to know why. As she turn every corner, something else happens to let her know she is being watched and they know where she is. As you join this thrill ride on trying to see if Ellie will escape alive, details emerge that will change her life forever.
Mary Alford pulls you right in with her descriptive writing and likable characters. You feel like you are experiencing this with them. She never disappoints!
For readers of fast paced suspense, this is the book for you. The climactic ending had me holding my breath!
I was given an ARC of this book and they are my own opinions.

Review of Covert Past by Author Mary Alford A good spy story. Ellie, an assumed name, has spent seven years of her life running to stay alive. She moved a lot and changed her name. When Ellie runs into Boone going in to apply for a job. Little does she know her life will improve. Ellie couldn't trust anyone. She was being chased and being shot at . Their is shock of betrayal and surprise when she goes with Boone and his crew to a safe house. God watched over her. She was a Jew but had learned about Jesus. I would love some of Rocky Caramel coffee added to restaurant menu because of her.

Wow! This book keeps you glued to your seat from beginning to end. Ellie has been running for 7 years from accusations of being a murderer and a traitor to Israel. When she literally runs into Boone in Hope Island, he recognizes that she is hiding something. As Ellie begins to trust Boone, they both realize that she has been found again. As they and the entire Hope Island Securities team work to protect Ellie, her enemies are getting closer to achieving their goal of silencing her forever. If you like fast paced suspense, great characters and relationships, and love a twist at the end, this book is for you. I received an advance copy for the author but all opinions are my own.

Mary Alford has done it again! “Covert Past” is the sixth book in the Hope island series. It can be read as a standalone but it is so good that you will want to read all of the books!
Ellie Jamison arrives on Hope Island running from enemies who will do anything to get her. She doesn’t trust anyone, but she quickly trusts Boone Langston. Another excellent book with twists and turns that you don't expect. I won't give away the ending but it is everything I had hoped for!

Author Mary Alford never disappoints me! She kept me turning the pages of Covert Past to see if Ayla, now known as Ellie Jamison, would finally have a chance at a normal life: a life without danger, deceit, and dodging bullets! Would the Hope Island Securities team help Ellie find her safe place and an identity that she could keep?

If you're looking for a book that you can't put down, grab a copy of Covert Past. It has twists and turns, a heartwarming romance, and an inspiring thread of faith woven into its plot! I recommend it to all who enjoy romantic Christian suspense!

Ellie was on the run.. But exactly who was chasing her, the Mossad or Syria.

Ellie, new name had been on the run for seven years. Every since her partner in the Mossad was murdered with her gun. The Syrians had set her up but the Mossad think she is a traitor and they are after her also. She has settled on a small island off Main. The people seem nice and she is quickly drawn to Boone. Boone is ex CIA and takes on the job of protecting Ellie bringing in his partners to help.
Quick moving lots of action.

If you've read Mary Alford's books you know she's the queen of christian thrillers and suspense.
I loved this story because it wasn't scary and the mystery was great.
There's some romance and a whole lotta mystery.
Of course, it was truly difficult to figure out who the "bad" guy was. As with all of Mary Alford's books there are twists and turns that can make the readers head spin. I love that aspect of her stories.
This is another FANTASTIC read by Mary Alford. And it's a short read. I read it in a couple of hours.

Mary Alford has once again given us a fast paced, suspenseful story, filled with twists, danger, lies, faith, and redemption. I didn't want to stop reading! While this is the 6th book in the Hope Island Securities Series, it can be read alone. However, I suggest you read previous books to give context to characters and because every single one is great. Overcoming the past is never easy; there's a lesson for us all in Covert Past. Mrs. Alford never disappoints!

Covert Past is another book in the Hope Island Securities Series and what a story it is.
Ellie, a spy for Mosaad, has been set up as a traitor. Her fiance is dead, and she's on the run from people wanting to kill her.
Enter Boone, who also used to work for the CIA, and knows a spy when he sees one. But the one thing Ellie has on her side is Boone because he's totally convinced she is not a traitor and will do anything to protect her and help her clear her name.

With the many twists and turns, this story keeps you turning pages, but the ending will totally blow you away.
