I haven’t read too many books set around the Fourth of July, so it was really fun to have that element in this plot! Even if you aren’t American, this book just has a lovely summer feel to it that can be enjoyable without the nostalgic holiday events.

While I see bits of myself in RaeLyn, she did have a few moments that made me disappointed in her—particularly her negative thoughts about another character who is “down on his luck”, so to say, and thinking he is the vandal—that said, her thoughts could be accurate, however, because it’s sometimes hard to tell the vibe a person gives off over text rather than in person. I wish she hadn’t jumped to conclusions about him, though, especially as Mason was trying to help the guy. Everything works out and she learns a lesson about not judging a book by its cover, but I hope it sticks for the next book and maybe that she won’t jump to conclusions as much!

Speaking of Mason, after finishing the first book, I wasn’t sure what to think about him and was curious to see my thoughts on him after reading this book. The verdict? I liked him a lot more in this sequel. He balances RaeLyn out more as like I said above, she can be a bit quick to be judgmental and he is determined to see the best in everyone. I really liked the ending and can’t wait to read the next book after certain events happened in this book!

I might be a wee bit biased about enjoying this book so much—it is by one of my favorite authors, after all—but I also love the Scripture that is highlighted throughout the book, Psalm 68:6, about God setting the lonely in families.

Big, close families might have their messy moments and small town life might be messy with drama, but this series has highlighted it in a lot of humorous—and some thought provoking—ways. I would say I actually liked this book more than the first book in the series because I really liked how the ending worked out. I definitely suggest reading this series in order as it mentions the prior book’s events pretty often. Because of mentions of affairs/cheating, I would also suggest this series for older teens, but this one has less about that than the first book.

The ending had me doing happy sighs and then squeeing in delight—I’m truly looking forward to the third (and final!) book in the series that will be releasing in September!

Y’all, this was such a fun read. The perfect 4th of July cozy mystery set in East Texas! I was glad to be back with RaeLyn and the town of Mabank. The mystery was interesting and the book had good faith content. I especially enjoyed the subplot of Aunt Bessie. I really enjoy this series because of all the characters and the setting being in my part of the world. I do agree with Nadine that the Gaylord Texan is a stunning hotel. Someday I want to travel down to Mabank and check out these towns.

This was my first Janice Thompson and it definitely will not be my last! This was such a fun and cute book!
It’s written in one of my favourite styles ever! First-Person-POV, funny characters, intriguing plot and a really sweet romance? Add in a bit of mystery and I’m in love!
The characters were just top notch! I could use a whole book about Bessie Mae and Bob! And Tasha and her flock of admirers! And her rental of course!
As fun as this cozy mystery was, the best part of the story was, in my opinion, RaeLyn’s narration! Perfect combination of southern expressions, laughter and yummy food. And lots of it! The amount of sweet tea mentions could fill the whole book!

I will say, I didn’t read book one first, and while it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book, I did wish I had read book 1. The series is following Raelyn’s life, so throughout the book there are random references to book 1.

Such a fun read! This book is set in Texas and talks a lot about the local places especially Brookshire Brothers and Blue Bell ice cream. Get ready to drool as well since there is lots of yummy food in Texas and the best part is the author includes 2 recipes at the end. I love the faith and the humor that are displayed throughout the book!

Small town drama and gossip, a bit of mystery, unforeseen friendships, and the cutest little fluff of a dog ever grace the pages of this fun escape.

Sabotage at Cedar Creek can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading Book One first so you can fully appreciate the characters and Tilly. It was fun "reconnecting" with this crazy bunch, seeing how a certain couple's relationship has progressed, and watching Tasha be able to live her dream. The faith is woven in well, the romance is clean and sweet, and the Fourth of July celebration is patriotic and makes you want to visit, if for nothing else than to try some of Bessie Mae's pies.

I am anticipating Book Three, which looks like it'll be an even wilder ride than Sabotage.

If you're looking for a fun, wholesome book with mystery, heartwarming characters, and that reminds you of the importance of family, I definitely recommend Sabotage at Cedar Creek.

Sabotage at Cedar Creek is considered a cozy mystery in the Little Red Truck series. It was recommended to read the first book, Tracking Tilly prior to the second, but I read it as a stand alone which seemed fine.

The mystery is set in Mabank, Texas, as the Hadley family opens a new antique business called Trinkets and Treasures. All is running smoothly and profitably with Tilly, the red antique truck, as its mascot. RaeLyn Hadley drives, Tilly, her Grandpa’s truck around looking for antiques for her family’s store.

RaeLyn’s friend, Tasha, will soon open a new bed-and-breakfast inn to accommodate the area’s growing tourism, but suspicious circumstances keep popping up, hampering progress. RaeKyn goes to work to try and find out who could be behind the acts of sabotage. As in good mysteries, there are multiple suspects. Could it be the nearby resort owner, the daughter of the house’s former owner; a neighbor, or a squatter who had been living in the house before renovations? RaeLyn is determined to solve the mystery for her friend.

While thoroughly entertaining and inspirational, I grew weary of the seemingly forced southernisms. I’ve lived my whole life in small town, North Carolina and say y’all and eat cobbler, but there was enough sweet tea references to fill all Texas! The term whelp as in “Whelp, my compassion just sailed out the window” was not familiar to this southern girl.

I recommend this clean, sweet story, but you may end up baking a peach cobbler and topping it with Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.

Janice Thompson is one of my comfort authors--one I go to when I just need something light, cozy, and fuzzy. This one certainly fits that bill! I think the flaw for me here was just not enough sentence-structure variety; there were a lot of repeated phrases and telling vs. showing. So - it's fine! Clean and sweet, but not entirely my favorite read.

I do recommend reading the series in order, though it's not mandatory.

I’m really enjoying this series! This second installment was so much fun!

This book features a light cozy mystery with no murder. RaeLyn’s best friend Tasha is renovating a house that she hopes to turn into a vacation rental, but after multiple attempts of sabotage, it appears as though someone doesn’t want her to do that.

There were plenty of suspects. I didn’t figure it out until right before the reveal, and even then there were still a couple of things that surprised me in the end.

I loved the wonderful cast of characters. They were all so amusing, especially Aunt Bessie Mae. She’s a hoot!

I loved the small-town setting. It reminded me of the town where my great-grandparents lived. Speaking of, there was a sweet nostalgia to this story. Even though it takes place in contemporary times, it reminded me of simpler days, which I really enjoyed.

Even though this is the second book in the series, it can easily stand alone. If you’re looking for a lighter cozy mystery with small-town vibes and sweet characters, grab a copy of this book. I highly recommend it and can’t wait for the next one!

Thank you, NetGalley and Barbor Publishing for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

I loved this book! Romance is normally my main genre, and while this had multiple romances play out, it was never a main focal point as much as the plot was. The characters were so cute! I haven't read book one, but I plan to after finishing this one! The plot was the perfect mix of smalltown romance and what could be a small claims mystery!

Language - none at all as expected from Janice Thompson and a Christian book!
Spice - again, nothing at all! A few sweet kisses that aren't even described are the most romance there is!
Other notes- I think parts of the *current, as of Jan. 8* synopsis got mixed up. A few of the details in the summary better fit the sneak peak of book 3 than they do book 2. The overall plot is the same, but there are a few little things that were probably meant for the other book

*SPOILER*
- I can't believe that ending! It's so cute, and it fits right in with the characters, being southern and Christian, but it was such a surprise! I can't wait to read the next one to see how it plays out!
- The wrapping up of the mystery felt a tiny bit fast to me at the end, considering that RaeLyn had hardly considered that as a possibility, it seemed a bit more like a tying up all the loose ends kind of twist than a shocking but believable plot twist. It was still a good ending, though, that made all the little details come together!

This is a fun southern cozy mystery. There are no murders, just the mystery of who is trying to ruin a new vacation rental being developed by Raelynn's best friend. Most of the novel is southern life, people getting together to celebrate community activities or family gatherings. There is much general talk between family and friends. There are hints of romance included both for young people and older ones young at heart. There is a strong family dynamic including good meals with a few recipes provided. There is a prominent Christian atmosphere throughout the novel.

This is a good novel of family and faith, with a fun southern setting.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

I first discovered my love for Thompson's work while reading the Gone to the Dogs series, so I was excited to dive into this one as well. And really—who doesn’t love a little red truck?

Even though this was my first book in the series, I never felt lost or like I was missing key details. The story stood strong on its own, but it also left me eager to go back and read book one. The writing was engaging, and the characters were well-developed.

I’m definitely looking forward to reading more in this series. If you enjoy well-crafted storytelling with a touch of charm, this is a great pick!

Summary:

In Sabotage at Cedar Creek we return to the charming town of Mabank, and revisit the characters we grew to love in the prequel, Tracking Tilly. This time, there’s a mysterious culprit sabotaging RaeLyn’s best friend’s new B&B. Can RaeLyn figure out who the saboteur is before it’s too late?

My thoughts:

I enjoyed this sequel to Tracking Tilly more than I though I would! Although I found the beginning to be a bit slow, the middle picked up quite a bit, and I became very invested in the lives of the main characters, (even more so than in the first book). I especially loved Bessie Mae, whose spunk and slightly concerning adoration for John Wayne made her by far my favourite character.

My absolute favourite part of the book was by far the setting! I loved being immersed in the small town southern charm, and as someone who doesn’t usually enjoy a contemporary setting, that’s saying something!

As to the ending, I found it a tad bit anticlimactic. I was expecting the villain reveal to be much more dramatic. Despite that, I still liked the way the book ended off.

Overall, I’d recommend Sabotage at Cedar Creek to anyone who is in the mood for a sweaky-clean, short, low-stakes mystery set in a charming small town in Texas with feisty but lovable main characters!

Release date: 1st of February 2025

Rating: 3.5 stars (rounded to four)

Genre: Contemporary Mystery

Romantic Content: Level 3 - Kissing

Barbour Publishing has published great Christian Cozy Mysteries over the years that are full of Truth and cozy without all the trappings society has come to expect from mysteries. Janice Thompson’s latest mystery release is Sabotage at Cedar Creek and is the second in Ms. Thompson’s The Little Red Truck Mysteries series. Sabotage at Cedar Creek tells the story of RaeLyn, a young woman who has a nose for solving the petty crimes taking place in her community. RaeLyn is on the case when her best friend, Tasha’s, new B&B business begins to get sabotaged before it even gets off the ground. As RaeLyn hunts down the truth, dragging Tasha along with her, God leads RaeLyn down a path full of twists and turns, revealing not only the truth, but Real Truth all along the way.

I absolutely LOVE mysteries, both of the cozy variety as well as the gritty variety. Sometimes I am in the mood for a gritty mystery and sometimes I’m in a cozier mood for a mystery. Sabotage at Cedar Creek is a delightful read that came at just the right time for me. Janice Thompson knows how to write a cozy mystery that balances the whodunnit with the cozy mystery feel, that makes the Reader feel safe reading it by not having gruesome scenes. I thought the duo of RaeLyn and Tasha were a hoot to read about! I love how Ms. Thompson wrote RaeLyn and Tasha to have sweet, spunky personalities–each with their own level of spunk and sweet–who do their best to Follow God and do what He says. I like how there were many potential suspects in Sabotage at Cedar Creek. I love how Ms. Thompson wrote each Potential Suspect, giving them equal value in the story, making the Reader believe that either Suspect(s) could be the Culprit. I love that God’s Truth was soaked through every page of Sabotage at Cedar Creek. I love how Jesus and being His Follower was at the forefront of all the Main Characters lives. A theme that I saw through out Sabotage at Cedar Creek is how God was teaching RaeLyn not to judge people for their pasts—especially after Jesus forgave them. I love how this lesson was brought home by RaeLyn’s boyfriend, Mason, and her Aunt Bessie Mae’s example. I love that the story showed RaeLyn doing her best to follow Bessie Mae and Mason’s example, even though it was hard and RaeLyn fumbled and judged at times anyway. (I also love that there was a little mystery involving Bessie Mae too–read Sabotage at Cedar Creek to find out all about it!) This was the first book I have read in The Little Red Truck Mysteries series, but I am looking forward to getting caught up on the rest of the series in the future. I believe that Sabotage at Cedar Creek may have referenced the first book in the The Little Red Truck Mysteries series, but if so, it did not take away from Sabotage at Cedar Creek’s mystery. I enjoyed my ride in Sabotage at Cedar Creek and getting to read a classic whodunnit with Values that match mine! If you are looking for a cozy whodunnit with a Christian Values flair, then I highly recommend Sabotage at Cedar Creek by Janice Thompson! I’m looking forward to reading the rest of The Little Red Truck Mysteries series too!

Spiritual Elements

Christian references are present throughout, with Rae Lynn and her friends and family praying and encouraging one another in their shared faith.

There’s also a running thread about appearances versus reality, with Rae Lynn realizing that her first instincts/impressions aren’t always correct. The rich man who owns half the town may not be enjoying the luxurious lifestyle to which he lays claim, and Tasha’s cantankerous neighbor may be more lonely than troublesome.

What I Liked

This is my second book by Janice Thompson, as well as book two in the Little Red Truck series. It’s also one of the first few books I’ve read in the “cozy mystery” genre. While I’m still getting used to the lower-stakes mysteries, I like Thompson’s emphasis on character relationships, which really carry the story, for me. Thompson does a great job bringing the small-town community to life!

Once again, we’re treated to Bessie Mae’s fantastic cooking, Dot’s impressive knowledge of the community, and Tasha’s splashy personality (and wardrobe). Whereas the first book focuses on the history of Rae Lynn’s late Papaw, Sabotage at Cedar Creek gives us a glimpse into Bessie Mae’s young life. I really like the dignity and honor Thompson confers upon the older characters in these multi-generational stories, not only in their being central to the plot, but also in terms of the respect paid to them by their family members.

Rae Lynn and Mason are now officially dating, which makes room for a new romance plot centering around Tasha. In book one, we saw hints that one of Rae Lynn’s brothers, Dallas, has a crush on Rae Lynn’s best friend, and we see that continued in book two– alongside the entrance of a couple more potential suitors. As an aside, I often get the twins, Dallas and Gage, confused when I’m thinking about the story. This could be a complaint, except that it feels true-to-life, because people often mix up twins. They’re also fairly interchangeable in book one, in which they play a smaller role.

I was also excited to see Tasha’s dream coming to fulfillment in book two, as she is actually opening the long-anticipated bed and breakfast. I enjoy reading about the hospitality industry, so this was a fun plot point for me.

Content Notes

There’s a bit of gossip going around the small town, with some reflection about gossip not being a good thing to engage in. Additionally, there’s a scene where the characters feel “weirdly disappointed” when a character didn’t do something (bad) that they hoped the character had done.

There’s also multiple kisses throughout the story, but they’re not especially descriptive.

Respectful Discussion

This is a small part of the story, but there was a scene I was really forward to, in terms of the romance, that was glossed over with a quick summary sentence. I’m being vague to avoid spoilers, but I would have liked to have actually seen the event happen, rather than getting a very brief allusion to it.

Recommendation Status

With the inclusion of Tasha’s suitors, as well as Bessie Mae’s backstory (and its connection to the present), I enjoyed Sabotage at Cedar Creek more than Tracking Tilly. Recommended for readers who enjoy gentle mysteries with small town settings and sweet female friendships.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher. Opinions expressed are my own.

“God places the lonely in families.”

The perfect cozy to read on a cold, blustery day, Sabotage at Silver Creek by Janice Thompson takes place in the idyllic, but hot, Texas countryside. Peach cobblers, pies, cookies, and all other sorts of delicious edibles parade through the pages of this second Little Red Truck who dunnit. And don’t forget the Texas Blue Bell ice cream!

Successfully avoiding eating ( but just barely!) while reading this twisty tale, I was happy to see RaeLyn Hadley and her tight-knit family, plus her bestie, Tasha Dempsey. It seems Tasha is ready to open her AirBnb, but sudden glitches start to arise. Poor Tasha worries about the new mortgage payments she has taken on, as RaeLyn, her boyfriend Mason, her brother Dallas, and her aunt, Bessie Mae, all rally to help Tasha.

To enjoy this book best, you need to read book one, Tracking Tilly first. Otherwise, you’ll be in for a lot of spoilers. Clayton is just as despicable as he is when we first met him, although we view some around him a little differently. Mason is an incredibly patient man, willing to see the best in everybody and give anybody a second chance. (“Sometimes people just need to be given a chance.”) He is very loyal and encouraging. One of those people who could “…foster open communication and cooperation. He also seemed to know how to address concerns and dispel problems.” Also great at unifying people.

I was a bit disappointed in the “girls,” as they were quick to lay suspicion and slow to look as carefully for multiple suspects as I wanted them to. Conner amazes me. With a less than stellar background, he could choose to become what everyone thinks he is…and that certainly would be the much easier choice. Bessie Mae is one of those aunts that few families have, but wow, she adds so much to the life of the Hadley family!

Spending time with RaeLyn and her family and friends, you will get that warm, fuzzy feeling like you have been included among family as people gather for celebrations, to plan events, or to catch culprits.

I was surprised by the reveal of the guilty. I am pleased to note there is a third book in the offing.

I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit via NetGalley. I also bought my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“Oh, I’m happy. I’m very happy.” “You might want to tell your face.”

“God designed us to live in community.”

“Loneliness and bitterness can turn even the kindest heart hard.”

Story is based in Mabank, Texas and features RaeLyn Hadley who has opened an antique shop on her family’s ranch. The book cover photo features ‘Tilly’ Papaw’s seventy year old red Chevy truck which is the mascot for the shop.

When I read Tracking Tilly My comment was that was immediately drawn to the story as my granddaughter drives a red truck. It was her high school graduation gift. It was what she wanted to haul her things back and forth to college.
Additionally I have a handsome wonderful grandson named Mason.
So yes I was indeed hoping for a HEA story! (I got my wish in that story- so here I am again.)

In this story her friend Tasha is getting ready to open her newly remolded vacation rental when use someone is sabotaging it and it nearly burnt to the ground.

I am a big thriller fan and have to admit I have to be the right mood for a fun cozy mystery yes there is a bit of mystery along with a bit of a sweet romance going on.

In Janice Thompson’s Bio she tells us why her stories focus on light-hearted!!
She says ~ Life is hard! Readers lead busy, chaotic lives and need those special ‘Take Me Away!” moments!
“Love, Laughter and HEA" is something most of us need and she says it ~ bring her great delight. Plus if think it is all fluff, think again!

Pleased to say, this was also a light enjoyable quick read and for you foodies there are yummy recipes’ posted at the end of this story!
I heard Book #3 Mistletoe and Mayhem that has hints of a wedding.

Want to thank NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for granted me the pleasure of this early eGalley. Publishing Release Date scheduled for February 25, 2025.

Janice Thompson is an author who I always enjoy getting to pick up her new titles. I love that she's recently turned her talents towards penning cozy mysteries, and the first book in her Red Truck Mysteries series (Tracking Tilly), ended up being one of my favorite reads of last year. I had high hopes going into this one, and it definitely did not disappoint.

It's kind of refreshing to pick up cozy mysteries that are both faith based, and non murder mysteries, as it's keeps the content less graphic and makes them more appropriate for younger readers as well. That being said, the mystery is not lacking in any measure, and I still found myself invested in the story right along with the characters trying to piece together who was intent on sabotaging Tasha's new vacation rental.

As lovely as the mystery was, it's the characters that truly make this one a five star read, and it was such a treat to be right back with Raelynn, Mason, Bessie Mae, and the rest of the Hadley clan. The new characters introduced also quickly wormed their way into my heart, and I'm already looking forward to reading book three.

Last but not least, there's a plethora of southern goodness included to wrap this one up in a tidy bow, and I don't recommend you pick up this fun title while being hungry as the food descriptions will definitely have your mouth watering.

Final Rating: 5/5.

If you're in the mood for a clean and sweet cozy mystery that tugs at the heart strings and restores your faith in humanity, then this lovely tale is the book you've been waiting for.

I can't recommend it enough, and I'm so thankful that my first read of the year is already a book that will find it's way onto my list of 2024 favorite reads!

Thanks so much to Barbour for allowing me to read and review this one!

God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land. ~ Psalm 68:6 (NIV)

Hop in your favorite mode of transportation and join the Hadley clan in Mabank, Texas for this second installment of the Red Truck Mysteries.🚗

Don't forget your sunglasses and your sunscreen. It's July and the temperatures are so hot you could bake your biscuits out on the sidewalk.😎

I was able to read the first book (Tracking Tilly) and this second title all on the same weekend. While it will be sad to leave Mabank behind, there is a third title coming out in a few days. Fingers crossed for a copy to be available soon.🤞

Here are five reasons to love this squeaky clean cozy:

🚗Tilly is one reliable red truck. She may need a few tweaks here and there, but Raelyn is putting plenty of miles on her.
🧁🍪There are TWO Bessie Mae recipes to try after reading this one. You will be hungry after reading about all the good food that our characters are enjoying.
👱‍♂️🧑👨‍🦱 Raelyn's BFF Tasha is attracting the attention of more than one suitor. How will she choose? And how will she pay the mortgage on Sunset Hideaway, her new vacation rental property, with someone out to sabotage her?
🤠🐴🐮🐶There are plenty of animals around on the Hadley property and four brothers to help wrangle all those chores. They even find time to pitch in at the family antique store -- Trinkets and Treasures.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟All the stars for a heartwarming cozy with a smidgeon of romance and a family who loves to work and play together.

P.S. Aunt Bessie Mae would want me to include at least one John Wayne quote:

All battles are fought by scared men who'd rather be somewhere else.

Success or Ruin!

RaeLyn's best friend, Tasha, is opening a vacation home. She has invested all her time and money into getting it off the ground. But now all kinds of things are happening to stop it, including the outside of the house vandalized with spray paint. If it isn't stopped Tasha will lose everything, but who is behind it?

There are many suspects. First, Clayton Henderson, the richest man around. He wants to open vacations rentals, and doesn't like competition.

Then, Belinda Keller, a relative of the man she bought the house from, claims she is the rightful owner. She has made threatening visits to Tasha, in between trying to get Tasha and Raelyn’s sympathy--and it might be working.

Next, there is her neighbor, Bob Reeves, who always seems to have a chip on his shoulder. He has started a petition to stop her from having a vacation rental.

There is a very interesting side story about RaeLyn's aunt, and her high school sweetheart from decades earlier. At the same time, Tasha has guys fluttering around her like bees after honey, but she is unaware of it.

While trying to find answers, RaeLyn and Tasha make some wrong turns but don't give up. This is a serious mystery although there are also humorous situations that take place.

This five-star whodunit, will keep you turning the pages to try to figure out the culprit. This is full of Texas charm, faith, and southern cooking. A bonus are the recipes included in the back of the book. This is part of a series, but this tale stands alone. I highly recommend this charming book to fans of well-written, clean stories, and mysteries!

Thank you, Barbour Books, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own.

About the Book:

Who Would Set the New B&B Ablaze?

Breathe in the nostalgia of everything old red truck in book two of this cozy mystery series.

In Mabank, Texas, the Hadley family’s new antique business is open and running well with Tilly, the red antique truck, as its mascot. RaeLyn Hadley enjoys driving Grandpa’s truck around as she seeks out antiques for her family’s store.

RaeLyn is excited that her friend, Tasha, will soon open a new bed-and-breakfast inn to accommodate the area’s growing tourism, but a fire threatens to spoil all Tasha has worked for.

RaeLyn immediately gets to work sleuthing out who could be behind such an act of sabotage. Could it be the nearby resort owner, the daughter of the house’s former owner; a neighbor, or a squatter who had been living in the house before renovations? RaeLyn is determined to solve the mystery for her friend.

Read also Tracking Tilly by Janice Thompson.

My Review:

Absolutely, hand down love this series! I think its a fantastic story line and idea for a book. I love it! I can imagine RaeLyn riding around finding antiques for her family's store. I love that Tilly is the mascot. It just seems like a good wholesome story line. I love that its based in Texas, as well. Just all around great way to begin. Just love it!

This addition to the series tells us a little more about Tasha and her new bed and breakfast. But even though Tasha's business will thrive in Mabank and fire is set to threaten all she has worked hard to achieve.

RaeLyn, of course has to figure this all out and help her friend. And you just know if RaeLyn is in charge we will all learn the culprit or will we?!

Great story!

Sabotage at Cedar Creek is a sweet and fun cozy mystery that you’re going to love reading. It’s also the second in a series. I’m a huge fan of sweet and fun mysteries that aren’t too suspenseful. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good suspense novel. But sometimes I just want a fun and sweet one. Yes, it has mystery but it’s not the edge of the seat don’t turn off the lights type of mystery.

This is a sweet mystery. Someone is sabotaging the new inn. Hadley is opening a vacation rental. But before it’s even listed someone is trying to make sure they never open for business. And Raelynn is not going to stand for this. She’s going to figure out who it is and solve this case fast before business is affected.

You don’t mess with these girls.

Side note. My little son is one and his favorite books are the little blue truck ones. So, of course, he is constantly pulling this book from my shelf and bringing it to me because he thinks it’s a truck book for me to read to him.

The truck in this novel is an old red one. And it’s sentimental. Buckle up and come along for a fun bump bump-bump-bump ride with us. Here is a second fun fact for you. My three-year-old when she was a baby always called rides in his daddy’s restored 1940’s jeeps bump bump rides.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. Janice Thompson has a wonderfully follow-up to "Tracking Tilly" in this cozy mystery "Sabotage at Cedar Creek" which brings back RaeLyn, her family, friends and some new characters. Thompson has created a wonderful small town mystery series that draws the reader in right at the beginning of the books. She has some twists and turns to keep the reader guessing at who committed the crime. There is also some family happenings, light romance and you feel like the characters could be your family and friends.

I like that this book, like the first was not a murder mystery. This makes the book enjoyable for ages 16+ being able to read these books. There is some kissing between the main character and her boyfriend, mention of a couple that is divorcing (the husband has a new girlfriend prior to the divorce being final-not portrayed as a good thing) and a bit of suspense trying to solve the crime but none of the suspense is intense.

The small town feel of the book, a community working together during their 4th of July celebration to support various groups through church fundraisers, characters that go to church and worship God are refreshing to see. The family supporting one another is also great to see in this book. Overall this is a wholesome book that shows imperfect people as well as right from wrong. If you like cozy mysteries with a bit of romance and family values - this one is for you.

Thank you to Barbour Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

** “ ‘I’m trying to remind myself every day that God still has plans for my life.’
‘Plans, for good, and not evil,’ Dot said. ‘Plans for a future, one filled with promise and possibility.’ ” **

Janice Thompson continues her cozy Little Red Truck Mysteries series with “Sabotage at Cedar Creek.”

With her Papaw’s beloved little red truck Tilly back after its recent theft, RaeLyn Hadley is helping her best friend Tasha get her new vacation rental ready to be opened. But when acts of sabotage begin to occur, the friends quickly try to get to the root of it and figure out who is trying to harm Tasha’s business and why. With several suspects, can they band together with RaeLyn’s family and her boyfriend Mason to figure it out? And will Tasha therefore ever be able to get her business off the ground?

Once again, Thompson has created a lovely story filled with potentially new budding romances, some intriguing mystery, sweet and funny moments, and a love for animals and family. Her characters are both delightful and unlikeable, many recognizable but a few new ones added to the fold. She also fills “Sabotage at Cedar Creek” with several great themes, like knowing God has a plan for us; giving out second chances; not making assumptions; judging others; dealing with bitterness; having a sense of gratitude and sacrifice; and the importance of community.

Fans of cozy mysteries will love this story, which is due out Feb. 1.

Five stars out of five.

Oh I’m so happy to see that the author has written another book. If you are not familiar with her writing let me help you help. Her stories are funny with a touch of southern hospitality. Faith is weaved throughout each book and the characters are a hoot. In this story we travel to east Texas. Quaint little towns with shops that include antique stores, clothing, bakeries and grocery store. Bluebell ice cream is the best ice cream around and let’s not forget the sweet tea.

Raelynn helps out at the family’s antique store where treasures are discovered everyday. She is also helping her dear friend Tasha as she gets ready to open her vacation rental. Not everyone is happy about this as unexplained vandalism occurs. Shadows lurking around at night, graffiti sprayed outside and threatening letters make this story exciting and full of surprises.

Raelynn and Tasha team up to find out who is behind the threats. I like that Tilly is featured in the story as well. It is an iconic red truck that Raelynn drives but it sure has a story of its own to share. Join in the fun as this mystery adds twists that keep readers guessing. I love how the author’s sweet personality shines in this adventure. Filled with southern dishes, a dash of romance and a mystery this story has everything you need including mouth watering recipes at the end of the book.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Who could want to sabotage a vacation house....

It's more outrageous madness and mayhem in Mabank, Texas! Yes, I just finished the second Little Red Truck Mystery and boy, was it a doozy! Janice Thompson once again brought her madcap characters to life in a story that made laugh even as I tried to puzzle out who-done-it.

Sabotage At Cedar Creek was a very enjoyable read and featured everything that I cozy mystery should have. I had an even harder time putting this one down than I did the first book, Tracking Tilly. There were so many delightful mystery threads to guess at and a few surprising angles to consider.

One thing that really stood out to me in Sabotage At Cedar Creek is the need to not judge people solely on first appearances. Janice Thompson really brings home through an entertaining story that each of us has our own history filled with choices, mistakes, circumstances, and sometimes people are so much more than they seem.

Oh, and a friendly piece of advice...make sure you have a snack while reading this book because all of that delightful sounding food from Blue Bell ice cream to peach pie to gumbo will make you HUNGRY...

I got a kick out of this book and now I am very much anticipating the third Little Red Truck Mystery where I know I will find more mystery, fun, and Texas....

I am enjoying these cozy mysteries by author Janice Thompson in the “Little Red Truck” series. These mysteries are on the light-hearted side and this makes for some fun reading. The author has done a great job of creating an entertaining community of friends and family in Mabank, Texas, who care about one another. The Hadley family sticks together through every circumstance in life, and they are always there to help their friends and family. But be aware that they are excellent cooks and reading these books can make you want to head to the kitchen for a southern-style meal. In this book, Raelynn Hadley is trying to help her best friend, Tasha, launch her new vacation rental property. But someone is out to stop Tasha’s efforts, and this could turn out to be a financial disaster for Tasha. There’s plenty of suspects for Raelynn to consider as family and friends draw together to catch the culprit before Tasha’s deadline to open her business. There’s some light, clean romance in this storyline and a thread of faith that gives the reader an inspiring look at the importance of community. This book reads well as a stand-alone story, but once you’ve read this one, you’ll likely want to go back and read the first book in the series. I’m already looking forward to reading more about the Hadley family and their next mystery to solve. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed RaeLyn’s character. It was a fun mystery and there was some romance. I really enjoyed it. I would read more books by this author!

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries!

Yall, I loved this book! Maybe it is because it has a red truck on the cover, and I drive a 2003 red F150 and I'm a born and bred Southern gal, but I think it has more to do with a fabulous writer that has written the perfect cozy mystery for these last few weeks of winter. Janice Thompson writes stories that make me laugh and giggle while threading into the storyline messages of faith.
Sabotage at Cedar Creek is the second book in The Little Red Truck Mysteries. We find Raelynn helping her family in their antique store and she is helping her friend Tasha to open up a vacation rental. Things get sticky when a family member comes on the scene saying she has rights to the house that Tasha purchased. Wacky things begin to happen to derail all of Tasha's dreams and Raelynn is determined along with Tasha to find out who is causing all of the chaos.
This is a charming read and while it has a significant storyline you will find yourself giggling after a few missteps the girls make. There is the backstory of Raelynn's aunt and her high school sweetheart that is very sweet. Added recipes at the back of the book make this so much fun and I fully intend to make both recipes.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
I would give this book ten stars if I could.

"Who would burst into her house in the middle of the night to deliberately scare us?"

Raelynn Hadley was fully invested in seeing that her friend Tasha's new vacation rental would be up and running on time, so that Tasha would quit worrying about paying her "mortgage" (often Tasha's word of the day). When the two young woman plan a sleepover in the newly refurbished property, things literally go bump in the day, leaving them scared out of their wits, and calling on reinforcements. There seems to be no logical explanation . . . or is there?

Depending on her dependable (most of the time) brothers, an exceptionally wonderful boyfriend, and an always-cooking great aunt . . plus a number of other members of the male species who proceeded to buzz like bees around Tasha . . . . Raelynn is determined to scout out who has a vendetta against Raelynn, sadly discovering that there were quite a few people in Mabank, Texas who would fit into the role of suspect.

Taking off at a delightful pace, sporting a plethora of miscues and misunderstandings, the delightful banter and eventual outcome makes this cozy mystery a must read for fans of "whodunit" stories.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Barbour Publishers. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.
