Only fools would be out on a rooftop on a wild, stormy night… and those with nefarious intentions. All Riley wants is to stay out of the weather, and stay out of trouble, but trouble comes looking for him.
The Skywalkers often emerge when the city shuts down for other folk. They are the ones who live above everyone else and keep the city and its buildings running. They are a loose-knit group who support and look out for each other.
When a possible murder disrupts the predictable pattern of his life, Riley finds himself at the centre of unwanted attention. More than that, it seems his life is also at risk. Where are the Skywalkers when he needs them?
A heritage consultant, a ginger cat, and a retired concert pianist with a past all play a role in Riley’s desperate attempts to understand who is framing him, and why. From a high vantage point, it seems he may end up as another stain on the footpath.
He wants to get out of the bad weather and stay out of trouble but he is about to get into trouble regardless. He may meet the ones who help keep everything running. What is going to happen? How will he get on? Will he find a new way to live? See how he gets on
Riley is a Skywalker, meaning he lives on the top floor of his building, where he's a building manager - his grandfather was one of the architects of the building. He's friends with the other Skywalkers from the surrounding buildings. They meet on the rooftops.
One night during a storm, Riley sees something across the way. He thinks he sees three people, but then it's just two. The next morning, he learns that someone jumped off a neighboring roof. Was it murder? And did it have anything to do with what he thought he saw?
I enjoyed this quite a bit, mainly because I liked the characters, but the mystery was good too. It's kind of a friendship novel, and the descriptions of the city and the hangout places were fabulous. I felt like I was there. Also, I loved Riley's cat, who plays a prominent role in the novel.
Overall, this is a good, solid mystery with some government intrigue to go along with it.
Really enjoyable cosy mystery set in my hometown of Adelaide. Knowing so many of the places referenced certainly made the book come to life in my head more as I was reading.
A man jumps from a tall building late at night in a storm. Riley, from an adjacent rooftop, remembers seeing figures out on the roof around about this time. and suspects there may have been more to the incident. As a range of shady characters and unusual events continues to mount, he suspects that there is more to the incident than the official verdict.
The climax was a little predictable, and I feel that a couple of little secrets being withheld from the reader would have lifted the suspense, but this didn't detract from the overall experience. Like any good mystery, I was turning the pages faster the further I got into the book.
This was a cosy mystery set in Australia, and I chose it because cosy mysteries are a favourite of mine.
This was a fun, quirky mystery, and it was entertaining. At the same time, it was just a story about an ordinary guy and his cat, which I really liked. It was a lovely, lighthearted book to read.

I really enjoyed this story from start to finish! It had been a bit since I read a good, cozy mystery, and this was a perfect return to the genre. I enjoyed the characters, their relationships, and the flow of the plot. There was plenty of intrigue and danger but it was balanced so nicely with calmer sections. I highly recommend this if you’re looking for a cozy mystery! I received a free eARC of this, and am choosing to leave an honest review.
Riley lives in an apartment at the top of a business building. He is one of many, who call themselves Skywalkers, and they have coded signal they send to each other. One stormy night, someone falls from an adjacent building, and so begins the mystery of what happened With some tightening of prose, and a proofreader, this book would be an even better read.
I enjoyed this book . It was not entirely crime nor thriller nor romance, but a bit of all three, an interesting story about city folk, some of whom are a bit dodgy.
