This is a book of one woman's courage; her multiple personalities that found their way out during therapy. It's a story you will become involved in, a journey that exposed a life long struggle through abuse, black outs, loss, grief and victory. Charmaine and her therapist travel together, down a long hall with many secret doors, within Charmaine's brain. As Charmaine questions her sanity, the journey she embarks upon unearths a living nightmare. Her therapist discovers the many personalities that live within her.
It is sensory, it is emotional, it is timely and topical... it is real life in its fluidity of movement.
Working together, in seemingly endless and unexplored territory; Charmaine discovers clues to those who coexist in her complex brain. The reader will witness Charmaine's fears, angst and desperation. Each page will draw you into more as you question  the fragments that describe her day to day experiences, coming face to face with her Alters.

As you turn page after page, uncovering memorizing, often breathtaking moments in the journey into Charmaine's world. Join Charmaine, her Alters and her therapist as they walk through this personal hell, to emerge into the light of healing. From one riveting moment to the next, you will not be able to put this book down. Down The Hallway, you "won't want to put it down" according to the reviews!.

This book was beautifully written and illustrated with the client’s absolute best interests in mind. I loved the relationship between therapist and patient and the strength they shared. The mind is an amazing thing and blows me away with the things it holds and creates for us from birth. Parts of this story are hard to read but they are necessary for the story and they show amazing strength through it all.

This book grabs you from the first and is so intense that you can not put it down. I found that I actually could understand DID after reading this book and I was fascinated at how the brain is capable of doing this. I loved that the author put this in story form so that real people could understand and see what a Dissociative Identity person goes through. Having the actual journal entries and artwork of the client made the book come alive. I recommend this for any adult to read for you will find it is quite the ride and you will find yourself carrying this book around unable to put it down.

absolutely phenomenal.

there were some editing errors- misspellings, once a referral to one alter when discussing another, a sentence or two that wasn't a complete thought- but nothing that took away from the intensity of the book.

this really gives you insight to the way that the DID mind works and it is amazing. even better, although there is some reference to what created the alters, there is not a lot of detail around the abuse. I always think that it is not necessary to know the disturbing and heartbreaking graphic details and this book does a good job of letting you know that the circumstances were horrific without exploiting the survivor.

I have read a lot of books about MPD/DID, and this is easily in the top 5. if you are interested in this subject, you definitely want to read this book.

I started this 2 years ago and got halfway through it before I stopped and have yet to finish it.
I dislike how the book is from the therapist pov and not the person with DID and in certain areas it’s really had to get into due to how it’s written.

This book, "Down the Hallway" caught my eye as I was scanning for something new and different to read. I have finished and would love to share my opinion , as I think it is one of the best true stories I've read in quite some time. I was instantly emerged in the conflict, compassion and the horror of one woman's struggle to regain control of her life. She suffers traumatically with DID and shares her very personal journey from hell to salvation with the help of a grief therapist. It is a gripping and informative story of Alter personalities which dwell in her mind. Fantasy it is not, and the realities it shares are shocking and very moving.

If you do not read any other book this year, read this one! It is wonderful. I loved the way the story is told from the therapist's view and the main characters journals. The story is fascinating, the characters are each alters in this one woman's mind, I picked it when I was looking for a book that was big enough to last awhile. Thwarted... I read and read and read. finished it in days. it's that good. This book brings DID to life. I really knew nothing about the topic when I started reading but loved the twists and turns the story took. Great book, well written, fabulous read. This is a must read.

This book was very helpful to me as I am on a similar journey. Like Charmaine, I was terrified of the diagnosis, I flip-flopped between believing it and not, and struggled with no memory of trauma. After reading this book, I realized there was hope for healing. Thank you for writing this book and thanks to "Charmaine" for sharing her very personal journey.
PS - I am reading it for the second time!
