The Bakery by the Seaside is a light-hearted romance set in a fictional seaside town on the West Coast of Scotland.

Story:
After splitting up with her boyfriend of four years, April leaves the city behind to start a new life by the sea.
When she arrives at the small coastal town on the West Coast of Scotland, she takes a chance and leases the old-fashioned bakery house at the seaside. She has the spring and summer to try and build up her bakery business and make it work. Baking bread is her favourite - fresh crusty bread, white bloomers, whisky loaves and tea bread, along with pink-iced sticky buns.
Romance isn't part of her business plan, but then Shawn the local eye candy and boat repair man, and Campbell the owner of the mansion on the large country estate, vie for her affections. And April has to decide which side her bread is buttered.
In the beautiful seaside town with its local gossips and scandalmongers, there's only one thing for sure - no one knows the name of Alec the chicken.

I love the short stories that De-Ann Black writes, there is something whimsical about the settings and they are always played out so very innocently, which in this worlds of "too much information" is a breath of fresh air.
I wasn't disappointed at all by The Bakery by the Seaside, April is an instantly likeable character and her heartbreak to romance story is one that kept me turning the pages.
I can still smell the bread & cakes!!

A great quick read ,if only life was like one of her books but that's the beauty of Reading

Cute little story. April moves to a small town in Scotland to open a bakery after her boyfriend cheats on her and asks her to leave. She is the new girl on the block and Shawn, a wealthy local boat repairman and Campbell, a wealthy business owner, both become interested in her. Who will she choose?I enjoyed a look at the small town life and meeting the gossips. Mrs. Bramble is a wealth of information, even going so far as to come over in the middle of the night to warn April about the machinations of the men.In the end, April finds love and all is well. There is not sex in this story. It is just a pleasant story.
