After Grey's banishment, Fall is one big emotional bruise, I couldn't help but empathize with her. There were tears, there was just this underlying sadness for most of the book. I really enjoyed Fall's evolution from the first book to this one. Now that Grey is gone it's up to her to rescue herself. Amazingly enough, she's doing it. She's still making questionable decisions but at least she's doing something.
Fall isn't the only one who has changed. Everyone's mask has come fully off. I knew the Evernight brothers were monsters, I'm mostly speaking about Romin, Emil, and Tristan. However, now I have mixed feelings about Valentine. He's different but not and there have been some reveals and key moments that make me think he isn't the devil. Valentine is complicated and I don't know how I will feel about him in the end but I do hope he has a redemption arc because at one point I did like him.
The story was incredible. Crap is going down and people are oblivious. Well, Fall knows but Fall is going a little crazy and she had help getting there. There is some nefarious plot happening and there are a lot of pieces. Multiple people are planning something. Are they in on it together or do each have their own plans? It was killing me that I couldn't figure out. A lot of new stuff about the Isles gets revealed, including more about the curse, and there was more magic which was freaking awesome.
Holy crap, what an ending. Hoxa blew me away with The Evernight Court, I think my heart stopped for a few seconds. I saw it coming but didn't want to believe it. Then Hoxa hits me right in the gut with those last few lines. Just when I had hope everything went to crap. Again. Gods, I can't wait until the next book. I might be willing to make some kind of Faustian deal to get it sooner rather than later.
