Mason was so quiet and sort of reserved in previous books...it really is the quiet ones. Tatum, who is Xavier's sister comes in town post breakup and really shakes Mason's life up for the summer. What was supposed to be just a summer fling turns into a very hot summer, a hot fall, and one hot hea. I loved Tatum with Micah...so sweet, and I love how Mason poured into Tatum to help her confidence after her POS ex wore her down. Angie's family left a bad taste in my mouth. How you tell a grown man whose wife has been dead for 5 years, he can't date and it isn't good for his daughter... audacity. Happy Reading Y'all!💋

I really enjoyed the story of Tatum and Mason. Tatum was such a sweetheart that didn't deserve what Stewart did to her. She better than me because I would've knocked all that stuff over in the restaurant, LOL. Mason was such a good man, but he did make me mad when he let his deceased wife's family get in his head. Together, these two deserved their HEA. They both went through a lot to get to their happiness.

In this friends to lovers romance novel, Tatum and Mason embark on a summer fling that ended in much more than either of them bargained for. Tate just recently got dumped by her boyfriend of nine years, a breakup that she didn't see coming. Tate's long term boyfriend Stewart decides to dump her and confesses that he should have done so seven years prior but decided not to because her parent's had just died in a car accident the night of her graduation. He merely states that he was with her out of convienence and now he's tired of settling. She then leaves Chicago, and travels to Rosa Oaks, where her biological brother, Xavier lives. Her and Xavier have the same biological parents, but were raised seperately by different foster parents. She met her brother four years ago and he's essentially the only family she has left. Her best friend Aly, also lives in Rosa Oaks and Tate decides to stay with her until she can figure out her life in Chicago, and a plan after Stewart. Her first night in town she runs into Mase at the bar, who happens to be friends with her brother. Since she's known him for a few years, and hangs out with him occassionally, the vibe is comfortable and Tate opens up to Mase about her relationship with Stewart and how things ended. With Rosa Oaks being such a small town, Mason and Tatum are seen leaving the bar together. Mason is widowed, his wife past away five years ago, and Tatum is fresh out of a long term relationship. Yet the chemistry and attraction is there, it's always has been let Mase tell it, but he respected her relationship with Stewart. Now since they are both available, they decide to have a carefree summer fling together since Mason's twelve year old daughter is staying with his in-laws for the summer. Neither of them expect much from the summer fling, as they have lives to get back too, but then they realize how perfect for each other they are. All their friends can see how in love they are and don't believe for one second that they will be able to stay apart once the summer ends. The day that Tatum is supposed to leave Rosa Oaks and go back to Chicago and pick up the pieces of her fragmented life, she gets a job offer. She applied for a job at the local middle school once a teacher is involved in an acccident that leaves her not able to work that school-year. Tate is offered the position in which she takes, but doesn't tell Mason. Mason finds out on the first day of school as he's walking his daughter Micah to class that Tatum is her teacher! Now he feels betrayed. Not only did Tate not tell him she wasn't going back to Chicago, she failed to mention she was his daughter's teacher. Initially Tate tells Mase that she doesn't want to persue anything more, as she doesn't want to date the parent of one of her students, but the energy between them is so strong and genuine that they decide to give it a try. Micah gives her blessing and they explore months together of domesticated happiness and a real family dynamic. Tate knows that Angie (Mason's ex-wife) was his one true love and she wonders if he's ready and he appears to be ready to love again until Thanksgiving comes around and his in-laws come to visit. They don't take to well the idea of Mase having a new woman in his life. They can sense the love between them, and it goes left as they think it's too soon and that his memories of Angie are fading. Mase pulls back from Tatum now questioning if it really is too soon. He's miserable without her and she's played such a major role in Micah's life since she's been around. Gradually he makes the decision to love Tate and realize that the life he had was Angie, though precious and priceless is over. Angie left behind two letters before she passed, one to Mason and one to his future love. The beauty of those words from Angie really solidified the foundation of this new relationship. They commit to each other and decide to live happily and one day expand their family. Book three of the series. I would like to read the rest of the books in the series to see how the other characters stories evolve.

My biggest complaint is about this romance is that so much of the relationship between Tatum & Mason happens off page. The best part of a romance is experiencing the couple fall in love, but we don’t get that here. In addition to that the characters & storyline felt extremely repetitive.

The only thing I didn’t like was the constant talk about the ex.

Splintered Hearts is the third book of the Rosa Parks series. I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and this book did not disappoint. It is a single dad, second chance at love, parent/teacher, fling, small town romance. The banter between Tatum and Mason keeps the story entertaining. Throw in the attitude of a preteen and there is a rollercoaster of emotions before we get our HEA.
