She rolls into town with a bag full of cash, a designer wedding dress stuffed in her trunk, and zero plans to stay… until we meet.
Runaway bride shows up outta nowhere? Most folks would call that a red flag. Me? I call it a typical Tuesday and hand her a key.
I’ve been rebuilding this old house for someone just like her, and she’s finally here.
Rumors fly that she’s my girlfriend, and we don’t bother correcting anyone. Pretty soon, she’s wearing my old T-shirts, sleeping in my bed, and turning my world upside down. Now I’m calling this city girl darlin’ like she already belongs to me.
She thinks she’ll be able to leave when the dust settles. But we both know she’s fixin’ to be mine.
Fixing to be Mine is an interconnected stand-alone in the Valentine Texas Series. This book is a small-town, runaway bride romance book with a cowboy hero who falls first and hard. It has rom-com vibes and a happily ever after. While this book is a stand alone, for the full Valentine Texas series experience, start with Bless Your Heart.
Lyra Parish is a hopeless romantic obsessed with writing spicy Hallmark-like romances. When she isn’t immersed in fictional worlds, you can find her pretending to be a Vanlifer with her hubby. Lyra loves coffee, the great outdoors, authentic people, and living her best life.
One of my favorite books I’ve read in a long time, maybe even one of my faves of all time. They were just so normal (if you forget the fact that they’re billionaires) and domestic, I fucking loved it! The way they never pushed each other away spoke to my soul😌 And Stormy! She was the biggest fucking lover girl for Colt! She was always praising him, which I feel like is rare in books and I loved it. One of my favorite heroines of all time! 🧎♀️➡️ Colt was such a sweetheart, he truly deserved someone who loved him like Stormy did! And the way she was subtly possessive and also protective of him was 🤌💋 I also loved when she had him pick out her outfits, it was so cute😋 and the way he would put effort into how HE dressed when he was going out with her! The way Colt loved to sit back and watch her be a boss babe was so sweet and cute. He knew he didn’t have to fight her battles for her, but he was sure going to be there by her side supporting her while she fought them.
I loved that they didn’t argue about stupid stuff! He let her spend $20,000 on him and also buy him an expensive wardrobe without insisting he pay for it. And she let him open doors for her and carry bags without insisting that she could do it herself! (I know those things don’t seem comparable, but they’re normally things couples would argue about in books😂)
And the fact that they would often just sit out on the porch and be together🥲 happy 😭 for 😭 them 😭
If you’re expecting big drama and plot, then this probably isn’t for you, but I just loved the simplicity of it just being a true romance between these two! I loved that they were always together and that there wasn’t a bunch of time wasted on side characters. I feel like a lot of times I don’t enjoy series like these because authors cannot let go of past couples enough to focus on current ones and will waste half a book on them. Thankfully, that didn’t happen in this🙏
This is such a lovely sweet sweet love story. It’s insta and it’s gooey but it’s also emotionally mature. I loved it!
The story is basically about finding someone who loves you on your own terms for your true self.
- Sunny/Stormy is a 35 yr old strong wealthy woman from NY who finds out her fiancee is cheating on her with her sister 45 minutes before her wedding. She flees and drives to Valentine, Texas where she meets Colt Valentine. When there are no rooms left at any of this rental properties, she stays with him in exchange for helping him reno his house. Colt is 28, a true southern cowboy with charm for miles and good intentions. He’s done w fooling around, wants to settle down and he’s very upfront that he is building this house for his future family. He’s no bullshit and very direct. - No third act breakup. I love how the conflict in the story was handled! No unnecessary drama. - Communication - the communication and emotional maturity is top tier. She’s keeping secrets about her identity, but he’s aware of it and lets her tell her in her own time. - No OW/OM drama. His ex from 3 yrs ago shows up at this door, but he and Sunny put her in her place. He has no feelings for her. Both times she shows up in the story it’s brief and only serves to bring them closer together. - Spice - the spice starts around 50% and is spicing! But I honestly love that the two of them are around each other closely for a little bit without giving in to the sexual tension. It makes their relationship so much and more meaningful. - Dual POV - engagement in epilogue
So this is close proximity at its best! These two are insta attracted to each other but also insta at ease and genuinely like each other and become friends. She is living in his house and they actually start sleeping (like literal sleeping) together before anything sexual happens. He knows she’s had some trauma and wants to give her space.
The tension comes less from the relationship and more from them both knowing that in two weeks she’s going to need to go back and deal with her life in NYC. I love how the author handled this!
There are small moments, meaningful spice, family connections, and genuine getting to know each other.
These two do fall in love quickly and it’s a bit fairy-taley perfect. But sometimes you need a low drama love story. At least I do.
This whole book just feels like a hug. 🤗

I loved this story! It was the book I didn’t know I needed and just makes me even more in love with these Valentine Texas series! If you haven’t read this series you should. You can legit just pick up anywhere but in order give you the full feel for all these characters in this family.
This is Colt and Stormy’s story. A story of right person right time really does happen. All these stars aligned to bring these two together.
This is also a reverse age gap ❤️ she is older and damn did that bring it up a level. Colt is a man who knows what he wants and he isn’t going to let a little thing like age keep him away. But he also is a very patient man and he lets Stormy be the one to cross that line, because once it’s crossed there is no going back for him. She is his. All of her.
Lyra always makes you fall in love won’t he characters and this one is no different. Girl lost and trying to find her way stumbles into this cowboys world and just finds her perfect place. No third act break up, lots of steamy tension, growth of the characters, he takes care of her, she dresses him, a bit of teaching on both sides 😉 such a great read! Always feel like I’m back in my cowboy era when I’m with the Valentine family!
Betrayed on her wedding day by her little sister and her would be groom, high powered executive Sunny grabs a large amount of cash, jumps in the restored Camaro in which the newlyweds were supposed to drive off into the sunset, landing in Valentine, Texas, a town which she’s been told is a great place to disappear. Arriving just before a big rodeo, her accommodations fall through after a couple of nights, and she’s reduced to accepting a room in an unfinished restoration project undertaken by an infuriatingly attractive and confident cowboy.
As soon as he meets Sunny, Colt knows she’s the one he’s meant to be with, and endeavors to use their close proximity as a way to flirt his way into her heart. Along the way Colt reminds Sunny of her value and shows her that not everyone wants to take from her.
The chemistry between Sunny and Colt is steamy, and while there are many books set in Valentine, TX, this book works as a standalone.
I received an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m sharing my honest review.
This runaway bride romance hooked me right from the moment we see ‘Sunny’ standing in a custom made Bellamore wedding gown (IYKYK)! She was on the cusp of a new chapter in her life only to be slapped in the face with a double betrayal. She does what any scorned woman would do, she steals her ex’s car and runs to Valentine Texas.
Colt Valentine is focused on his little slice of heaven. And by heaven I mean the rumored haunted house he is trying to remodel. Fate decided to bring Sunny into his life and he is all in right from that first meeting!
I loved the dynamic between Colt & Sunny. The chemistry between them was so great. This book had me burningggg waiting for them to finally give in and when they did it was perfect. The whole last half of this book is so dang STEAMY, I loved it! They couldn’t keep their hands off of each other! 😮💨❤️🔥
Read an ARC of the book. Not sure why, but is the best book in the series on Valentine, TX so far. I love the directness between Colt and Sunny. Lyrah Parish found just the right words, tone, descriptions of situations and feelings. Interesting how little background we get on Stormy. It's open for long who she and her family is. Parish puts her back together ever so slowly. And Colt... oh boy, isn't he the sweetest, the most patient one of them all. Readers, set your anticipation high for this release.
Sunny & Colt. A runaway bride meets the cowboy of everyone’s dreams in this adorable small-town romance.
This is the first of the series for me and I really liked that I could read it without feeling lost or like missing anything.
I liked that the FMC is a young 30+ lady with a strong personality. There was chemistry between the couple; instalust that quickly turned to something more. A bit too quickly for my taste. I’d expect her to be more heartbroken. We saw big confessions not long after her getting out of a long-term serious relationship.
I would have liked to learn more stuff about her previous life. I would like to know if there was any indication she wasn’t happy in her relationship.
The pacing was perhaps a bit slow and repetitive but I had a nice time and I’ll be returning to this town soon.
-Dual 1st person POV -Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5
Overall: 3.75/5 ⭐️ for me
A big thanks to Lyra Parish for providing an arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Fixing To Be Mine is book 5 in the Valentine Texas series, it can be read as a standalone, but for the full experience I highly recommend reading in order. The Queen has done it again… or should I say outdone herself again ! She just blows my mind every single time. Her writing and storytelling skills are a work of art! I am OBSESSED with this book, it was absolutely AMAZING. I could not put it down for the life of me, it was so addictive, this town is like a warm hug that just makes you feel so good, the characters are absolutely fabulous and the story was just PERFECTION.
Colt F*cking Valentine will be the death of me. That man… he is just to die for!! The confidence, the cockiness, the sweetness this man has all mixed into one just made me swoon hard. Sunny/Stormy is the baddest boss b*tch FMC and I was here for it. Her sass, her confidence, the way she stands up for herself and takes back control of her life was so empowering to see. The way Colt is enamored by everything about her makes my heart melt. Their chemistry was phenomenal, the spice was hot as hell and the romance was absolutely beautiful. This town and all these characters have my heart forever.
Overall, I think this one has become my favorite of the series. I am absolutely OBSESSED and will not get over these 2 anytime soon! Do yourself a favor and read a Lyra Parish book, you'll be addicted so be careful 😘
✨️Thank you to @lyraparish for my gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was so much looking forward to Colt's story and now that I've read it (and loved it) I wish I could read it again for the first time. Rumors say, Valentine, Texas is the place to be if: -You are a runaway bride from New York City -You want to hide -You want to regroup -You want to take care of yourself -You want to lose yourself -You want to find yourself -You want anger management lessons by smashing certain things... -You want to meet one of the Valentines (and eventually the whole family) -You want to build things, fix things with your own hands -You want to fall in love for real -You want to find your HEA -You want to be happy for the rest of your life... Colt is everything and from the moment he laid his eyes on Sunny, he knew. He falls first, he falls hard and he has the patience of... well, a man who knows. "If you know, you know". "He expects nothing, and that makes me want to give him everything." This book is a rollercoaster of emotions, sweet, funny and oh, so steamy! There's betrayal and hurt. And then there's realizations, lots of fried and greasy food that's good for your soul, lots of whiskey, lots of fixing, healing and the perfect plot/character twist... "I'm gonna marry you one day." "I hope you do, cowboy."
"Fixing to be Mine" is book 5 in the "Valentine Texas" series. It can be read as a standalone but I suggest you read the books in order because the Valentine family is a whole experience and you really have to meet them all! "I knew the second you walked into my sister's house, looking like trouble, wrapped in heartbreak, that you were fixin' to be mine".
Thank you Lyra for trusting me with an arc of this story. Can't wait for what's coming up next...
Let me tell y'all, I was soooo happy to be back in Valentine, Tx with the Valentine family! I have been looking forward to Colt and his mystery woman's story for a while now! Thank you Lyra for coming back to this series!!
Sunny is a runaway bride (valid!!) that ends up in Valentine and is told Colt may have a place for her to rent, & she shows up at Remi's looking for him. That first meeting, Colt & Sunny have instant electric chemistry, and it is HOT! They may be the hottest couple chemistry wise in this series! I won't say "instalove", but they definitely feel something from that initial meeting.
When nowhere has room for Sunny, she ends up at Colt's reno in progress to see about staying & that starts their growth! Colt plays such a HUGE role in Sunny's healing journey, & helping her really come to terms that she is worth loving and being loved! I loved to see it! And how he supported her on her going back to NY to confront those that needed to be confronted, HERE FOR IT! He wasn't fighting her battles for her, just supporting her being a baddie!
Now, that chemistry makes for some of the best tension in this series! They had me sweating before they even touched, and that first kiss was FANTASTIC! Ugh, they were SO HOT!!
The hints at the next couples to come, I CAN'T WAIT! GIMMIE!!
Fixin to be Mine: Thank you @lyraparish for my gifted copy! “She thinks I gave her shelter. Turns out, I opened the door and walked straight into the storm, and the scariest part is, some reckless piece of me doesn’t want to run. Nah, I want to ride this out with her and see what happens.” If there’s one place that I just absolutely love it’s going to be Valentine Texas. It really does feel like a second home at this point. Kyra always gives us the best Easter eggs for our other favorites the Jollys & Calloways, and of course I was so pumped to see those little gem names pop up. I always love a baddie FMC, but Stormy totally takes the cake. She truly was finding herself and found that voice again and omg I was there for it. She’s a runaway bride but more like a runaway baddie. She’s been told to live this perfect life and now it’s time for her to learn how to just live. Colt Valentine. This man is what a real man is. Confident, knows exactly what he wants, patient as all get out, the perfect Valentine for sure. I loved their chemistry and this was such a swoon worthy slow burn. I honestly just fell head over heels. Out now!
Tropes: 👀 Hidden identity 👰🏼♀️Runaway bride 💞Fake dating 🛏️ Only one bed 🫶🏼Found family 🤠Small town
This runaway bride hidden identity romance had me hooked from the very first page. Sunny, scorned by the two most important people in her life, runs to Valentine, Texas to figure out who she is and what she wants to do with her life.
Sunny aka Stormy, blew into Colt’s life like a wrecking ball in the most beautiful way. When this runaway bride met her swoony cowboy the connection was instantly formed.
Colt and Sunny needed each other in ways they hadn’t realized. Colt was there for Sunny and always knew what she needed. The slow burn in this story was worth it.
The chemistry between them was magnetic. They really saw one another, the real person. Everything about them felt real and raw, nothing was forced. Their love developed naturally.
I love this series so much and getting those cameos from all the previous books is amazing. If you love a swoony, sexy cowboy who pines after a feisty, independent woman jump right in.
After seeing her fiance and sister together right before walking down the aisle Sunny ended up in Valentine because she was told it was a great place to disappear - which she desperately needed before confronting her family. As soon as she got to town she met Colt Valentine. The second Colt saw Sunny show up he knew she was meant to be his and was all in. These two had such a sweet relationship, they were the definition of finding the right person at the right time. Colt knew exactly what he wanted and never gave up on showing Sunny that they belonged together. The way that this man showed her that she deserved to be happy and live the life she wanted instead of the life her family wanted was so sweet. He helped her rebuild her life and did whatever he could to show her how amazing her life could be
This is the first book in this series that I've read and I will definitely be going back to read the previous books. If you are looking for a sweet and spicy small town romance I recommend adding this one to your TBR!
Book 5 in the series gives us Colt Valentine, twin to Remi from book 4. He owns rental houses in Valentine and is fixing up an old run down mansion. Enter Stormy, running from a breakup - all the way from New York City. And well, Colt knows how this is gonna end from the start 😉 Colt loves her well and it is so refreshing to watch just pure love grow.
This is a reverse age gap, and it could be one of my favorites. I don’t really care for reverse age gap because usually they can’t stop talking about the age difference and how she “doesn’t feel it is possibly going to work.” What I liked about this one is they acknowledged it and she mentioned it maybe once or twice and he just shut it down. Then it was only ever mentioned as a joke and even then not a bunch. I loved that. Called out the “elephant” then moved on to the good stuff!
I love Lyra Parish and her books. The way her universe flows between different series and you get mentions of other fan favorites. And there are so many Valentine family stories left for her to tell us. Fenix is next….the set up is big and I am totally here for it. ❤️❤️
The Valentine Texas will always be my favorite series by Lyra Parish. I love the whole Valentine family and am always happy to dive back into a small-town cowboy romance.
Colt is hard-working, confident, kind, flirty, and willing to help others. It's hard not to fall for his southern charm. Plus, who doesn't love a man that is always truthful and speaks his mind?
Stormy has a fighting spirit; when her whole life is flipped upside down, she takes action. She heads to Valentine, a town in the middle of nowhere that's completely unfamiliar to her. I'm so thankful she found Colt, and he treats her how she deserves!
The whole family dynamic in this series warms my heart. They tease each other but are loyal and supportive, and you can clearly see the love they all share. Anyone who is lucky enough to join the Valentine family is truly blessed.
I highly recommend starting this series! Lyra Parish single-handedly brought me into my cowboy era, and I never want it to end.
Love a good runaway bride story especially when it start off good! I absolutely love this story. Stormy & Colt was destined to find each other one way or another. It just took her leaving her wedding to a small Southern town. I love the cowboy vibe. Colt was the perfect cinnamon roll MMC. He was just the sweetest thing ever!
I love how Stormy found herself and how she stood up for herself with her family.
Let’s talk about the chemistry that was so steamy from the moment they meet each other. The spice was so spicy 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️..
Lyra is so creative and sneaky when she mentions other characters from her other series. I love that!
This was my first in the series but now I can’t wait for the next one. In the meantime, let me go read the first four books.
Not going to lie, once I started this book it was so hard to put it down. Sunny/Stormy finds out on her wedding day that her fiance has been fooling around behind her back with her sister. This causes her to tear out of town and head to the one place she has been told is the perfect place to escape, Valentine Texas. Colt is known for flipping homes and always has something going on. The current house he is working on is to become his forever home and sees what everyone else calls a haunted house for the beauty that it could be. Sunny doesn't have anywhere else to go and he offers her a place to stay while she sorts through things. This city girl finds that she is more than at home in the country and finds a perfect man to have by her side. Now, will they have the happy ever after? You will need to read more to find out. But I will say, it is one hell of a ride!
Welcome back to one of my favorite fictional small towns, indeed. Oh how I’ve missed Valentine Texas and the Valentine family. Fixing to be Mine is the 5th book in the Valentine Texas series, and there is not one book in this series that I do not love.
After, reading Fixing to be Mine, I can say that I have a new girl crush! Hello Sunny, aka Stormy. She reminds me a lot of Billie Calloway from The Boss Situation. If you enjoy a fierce FMC you’ll love Stormy! Don’t get me started on Colt. He will definitely have you seeing hearts, he has that Valentine charm. The chemistry between these two characters is next level and wrote perfectly in my humble opinion.
Fixing to be Mine has everything you would want in a book. It has a cohesive coherent storyline with a reverse age gap. Yes, please! Plus who doesn’t love a runaway bride with a secret identity?!?
Another incredible time spent in Valentine, Texas. So glad to see cameos of other characters in the Lyra Parish universe and even more tickled to be back in Texas and with one of my most underrated and most enjoyed tropes: The Runaway Bride. I don't know why I love it so much. But I do.
I've come to really enjoy Lyra's writing style and plot and character development. I know I am always in for a surprise and a good time. While I feel this book didn't really give me any huge surprises like the last few, I've read by her. I enjoyed it none the less. If you're looking for a cowboy who just knows in his soul, he wants a wife, children and a beautiful life on the farm and is putting in the work now so he can be ready for when Mrs. Right comes into the picture then you better prepare for Colt. He's even more wonderful in that for his age he is so patient and kind and understanding. He saw her, and his mind was made up, and nothing else mattered. If you look up the word dedicated in the dictionary, you'd see his picture.
I loved the way his family swooped her up and folded Stormy right into the fabric of their family unit. This is a classic right person, right time. When you know, you just know. And despite the challenges Stormy faced they persevered together. It's just one of those feel-good books. Little bit of OWD, little bit of whiskey, and a little bit of heartache. Which is nothing a handsome cowboy and a little bit of manual labor can't fix.
Overall, I breezed through this book, and I truly think you will too.
🅼🅾🅼🅴🅽🆃🆂 🅸 🅻🅾🆅🅴🅳: 👀She went all Carrie Underwood on her Exes prized car 💀The way she handled everyone who did her wrong 🩷He let her pick the paint 💕He never pushed her but always caught her when she fell
When Sunny shows up in the town of Valentine, TX in a wedding dress no less looking for a place to stay Colt Valentine thinks it’s fate! She wants to disappear after what she saw at home and this was the place to do it but for how long? Can she rebuild her life here or eventually have to face what was left behind? Colt is such a sweetheart, he will give you that swoon feeling. I really loved their instant connection and the build up of their relationship. Such a down home strangers to lovers romance. Plenty of small town family time too with all the Valentines’. Grab your cowboy hat and let’s go for a ride! ;) Told in first person and dual POV.
Welcome back to Valentine Texas!!! Yay we get Colts book! I was so excited to get an ARC of this and go back to that sweet town of Valentine.
Don’t you just want a place you could escape to and hide? Well Sunny/Stormy did just that. After running away from her wedding she hopes in her fiancés car and takes off. When she gets to valentine she has no place to stay that is till she meets Colt.
He instantly knows right away she will be his and eventually his wife. All he has to do is convince this stubborn woman who doesn’t believe in love anymore that he is the right fit for her. Easier said than done right?
“I knew the second you walked into my sister’s house, looking like trouble, wrapped in heartbreak, that you were fixin’ to be mine.”
I absolutely love Lyra's stories and was so excited for another book in the Valentine series. Colt and Stormy were the perfect addition to the series. Colt was so sweet and the ultimate book boyfriend. Stormy was so strong and brave for taking control of her future. I love how they fit together and how she claimed him at the auction. Enjoyed everything about this book and their story.
I enjoyed seeing past characters as well as a brief crossover. I can't wait to find out more about Fenix and Jace. Thank you Lyra Parish for the opportunity to read this ARC.
What book have I picked up, why a Lyra Parish book of course!!! She has done it again. I absolutely love her Romance Books. They’re so perfectly written and make you fall in love with the characters and places within each and every book.
We follow along with Sunny as she leaves behind her “perfect” life in New York. She escapes to the beautiful and quiet town of Valentine to regroup and figure out what she wants from life.
Do you believe in love at first sight? Mr. Valentine sure does. When he lays his eyes on Sunny, he MUST have her! But how will he feel when he learns the truth about Sunny and her past? You must read to find out.
This was a stunning read. I was hooked from the first chapter by Sunny's grit, fire and poise, then reeled in by Colt's charm, swagger, gentleness & passion. I absolutely loved Colt's laid back yet assured manner, and the way he fell hard & fast for Sunny and stood steadfastly beside her while she rose from the ashes was a beautiful journey. Lyra wrote this story perfectly - full of thoughtfulness, emotion, intention, passion and swoon. The Valentine family were a delight, as always, but the shining stars of the show were Colt and Sunny and their beautiful love.
I was lucky to receive an early copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is my first book from the Valentine Texas series and I can most definitely tell you I will be going back to read the rest. Stormy runs out on her wedding when she finds her fiance betraying her. She ends up in Valentine, Texas where she runs into Colt. I absolutely adored Colt. He was so sweet but also so confident. He was so direct with how he felt about her. It was most definitely love at first sight. Stormy was hesitant due to her situation. But somehow Colt & Valentine, Tx healed her heart she found where she belonged. I loved these two together!!
What to expect: 🩷Runaway Bride 💚He Falls First 🩷Insta-Love 💚Fake Dating 🩷Reverse Age Gap 💚No 3rd Act Break Up
“I seriously love that you’re so damn polite, but please f*ck me.”
This is 100% low angst summer reading vibes, I powered through it so quick and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Is an emotionally intelligent 28 year old cowboy super realistic… Probably not… But, that’s why I’ll never be able to be a non-fiction girlie 😂
Loved the beginning of the book and all .. City girl running away to 🤠 cowboy central 😍 . But I just felt that after a while the story kept dragging on when there was quite a few times it should have ended .But I did enjoy all of Colts woos ..Goes to show some men ate worth it (in books 😂)
I might have not read the rest of the series yet 🫣🫣 but I got the arc of this one and OMG I FELL IN LOVE IM 1000000000% getting the rest of it bc it's so so worthy, so well written and sincerely such a beautiful story 🥹 I loved it with my whole heart
