This is a book about a blind black kitten who works for Larry the cat, leader of the ninja cats! When the french ambassador rat comes to visit a priceless collar, Larry is framed for stealing it! Together with her brothers, Silver and Socks, and her cat-rat friend Catface she must prove Larry’s innocence and find the real thief. This is a book which follows the other books in the series: Toto the ninja cat and the great snake escape, Toto the ninja cat and the incredible cheese heist and Toto the ninja cat and the superstar catastrophe.

My 9 year old son loves these books. A crime fighting cat ninja - what’s not to love when you’re 9?
Unfortunately this particular one is full of typos and the odd punctuation error which really lets the book down. When you’re reading out loud they particularly stand out and on numerous occasions I found myself having to reread just to make sense of it all. On the plus side it was a quick English lesson at story time!
Would have been 5 but had to drop it to a 4 because of this.

Auf den ersten Blick mag Toto wie eine gewöhnliche Hauskatze wirken, doch der Schein trügt. Toto ist eine waschechte Ninja-Katze und hat, tatkräftig unterstützt von ihrem Bruder Silver und ihrem besten Freund Katzenkopf, schon einige knifflige Fälle gelöst. Und der nächste Einsatz soll nicht lange auf sich warten lassen. Der französische Tierbotschafter kommt zu Besuch nach London und Toto ist für seinen Schutz verantwortlich. Dieses Mal steht auch ein Besuch im Tower of London auf dem Programm, da sich ihr Gast unbedingt die Kronjuwelen ansehen will. Doch als sie dort ankommen, ist das wertvolle Diamanthalsband spurlos verschwunden. Und es kommt noch schlimmer: Ausgerechnet Toto und ihr Chef Larry werden beschuldigt, den Diebstahl begangen zu haben. Toto und ihre Freund*innen setzen natürlich sofort alles daran, den wahren Täter zu finden. Ob es ihnen wohl gelingen wird?
Hierbei handelt es sich um den vierten Band der Ninja Cat-Reihe. Vorkenntnisse sind nicht zwingend erforderlich, da die eigentlichen Fälle in sich abgeschlossen sind und alles Relevante kurz erklärt wird, dennoch empfiehlt es sich, mit dem ersten Teil zu starten.
Nachdem ich die drei vorherigen Bände voller Begeisterung verschlungen habe, konnte ich die nächste Mission von Toto und Co. kaum erwarten. Schon das Cover verspricht wieder jede Menge Katzenpower und rasante Action und genau das bekommt man hier auch.
Dermot O’Leary versteht es erneut hervorragend, seine Leser*innen von Beginn an zu fesseln und durchgehend bei Laune zu halten. Bereits die ersten Seiten sind ziemlich abenteuerlich, aufregend und amüsant und das bleibt es auch bis zum Schluss. Vor allem die vielen verschiedenen, liebenswert-schrägen Charaktere sorgen mal wieder für gute Unterhaltung. Unser altbekanntes Trio ist und bleibt einfach einmalig und unschlagbar: Die halbblinde, aber taffe und mutige Ninja-Katze Toto, ihr verfressener Bruder Silver sowie ihr schlauer bester Freund Katzenkopf. Seit dem letzten Band ist zudem noch Kater Socke mit an Bord und bereichert das Team ungemein. Es ist einfach wieder ein großer Spaß, die Freund*innen zu begleiten, gemeinsam mit ihnen durch London zu streifen und auf Spurensuche und Verbrecherjagd zu gehen. Und ganz nebenbei wird dabei einmal mehr gezeigt, dass Zusammenhalt stark macht und jeder von uns toll und einzigartig ist, genau so, wie wir sind.
Für Kinder und Lesemuffel ab 8 Jahren ist auch dieser Band ideal geeignet. Der Schreibstil (ins Deutsche übertragen von Tamara Reisinger) ist gewohnt lebendig und leicht verständlich, die Schrift ist angenehm groß und die Kapitel schön kurz. Zudem wird der Text von zahlreichen schwarz-weiß Illustrationen aufgelockert, beigesteuert von Nick East. Mit seinem humorvollen Stil erweckt er Totos Welt mal wieder wunderbar zum Leben und setzt das Erzählte perfekt in Szene.
Fazit: Toto und ihre Freund*innen sind wieder da und garantieren erneut herrlichen Lesespaß! Auch „Der mysteriöse Juwelenraub“ ist ein tierisch schönes, katzenstarkes Abenteuer voller Überraschungen. Zum Mitfiebern spannend, zum Schmunzeln witzig und zum Gernhaben charmant. Ich bin mal wieder begeistert und schon voller Vorfreude auf den nächsten Band. Von mir gibt es 5 von 5 Sternen!

Ninja cat Toto, her brothers, and her mentor Larry are providing security for the animal ambassador from France on his visit to England. But when they visit the crown jewels in the Tower of London on the tour, Old Tom's bejeweled color is missing. Which could mean serious problems as it grants the wearer power over the rats and pigeons in the city. Toto and her brothers must catch the culprit quickly as Larry has been framed and thrown in prison along with head of the Tower guard, Cyril.
This is my first adventure with Toto and gang, but I didn't have any problems jumping into this book without having read the earlier ones. There's a nice little recap of relevant past events and good introduction of characters. The characters were memorable and complement each other well in their teamwork. I like that Toto is super capable but also has visual challenges. She isn't fully blind, but is pretty close, and yet it doesn't stop her. Catface the cat/rat??? Is a very peculiar but extremely interesting character who seems to have talents and contacts in just about every field. It makes him a very valuable friend for Toto, Socks, and Silver as they try to catch the thief. There was a good balance of action scenes, plot development, and character development. I liked that the font was large and there are illustrations throughout, that makes this book much approachable for readers intimidated by chapter books or who might have visual issues. I also liked that the old folktale about Dick Whittington and his cat (Old Tom) were woven into the story. Overall, an entertaining and easily devoured ninja/mystery adventure.

We stumbled on the Toto series of books a few years ago when my son chose a double pack of the first and second books from his school book bus. From that first book he was hooked and my son, who is now 8 years old, eagerly awaits any new Toto releases. His review of this Toto book is that, Toto and the mystery jewel thief, is his favourite Toto story yet and the books just keep getting better everytime.
As an adult reading the books with him, I also find them very enjoyable. Nick Easts illustrations are brilliant. The hardback copies of the book are beautifully finished with shiny gold highlights on the dust cover but then another simple but equally as fantastic cover on the book itself. The cover illustrations make the books look interesting and make kids want to read them which is why my son originally picked the books out for himself even though at the time (he was probably about 5 or 6) they were above his reading ability.
Definitely a must read for anyone who likes cats, ninjas, animals or even London.

I am quite sad that I am up to date with this series. In this book Toto and co have to who really stole a necklace from the Tower of London and framed Larry and Cyril the Raven.
As usual there are many high kicks and Ninja moves and plenty of animal characters. Well done Dermot on a lovely series.

This series is so BRILLANT!! It has given my niece and I so many wonderful memories together. I have to say of the four books this is my favourite.
This time we join our favourite ninja cat, Toto as she tries to solve the mystery of the stolen Crown Jewels, clear her boss's name and stop a master criminal genius.

Toujours aussi mignon, le gang de super ninjas avec Toto et son petit frère nous revient pour une nouvelle aventure. Cette fois, il faut déjouer les plans d'un grand méchant ayant dérober les joyaux de la couronne. Plein d'action et de chatons mignons, on ne s'ennuie pas. Les enfants adoreront cette série aux superbes dessins. À découvrir pour les 7 ans et plus.
