Mark Dawson was born in Lowestoft and grew up in Manchester and Chicago. He has worked as a lawyer and currently works in the London film industry. His first books, "The Art of Falling Apart" and "Subpoena Colada" have been published in multiple languages.
He is currently writing two series. Soho Noir is set in the West End of London between 1940 and 1970. The first book in the series, "The Black Mile", deals with the (real life but little known) serial killer who operated in the area during the Blitz. Okay what can I say about this book... Everything.
One, one of the best books I have read, a great conclusion to the trilogy of three books, great writing, riveting action, a powerful and heartwarming story, that got stronger which each book with Beatrice's relationship with her daughter.
How the three books came together with the conclusion, which was so good, so exciting, so touching, great powerful tension, action and sadness.
Will this book's comclusion start a new series of books, I wonder?
All I can say to you my friend, is read these books, please!
I will be shortly be reading his other series with another great character John Milton.

Although covering the same ground as the previous this book is fresh and full of surprises. In it Beatrix Rose seeks to finish her mission of revenge against the agents and Control responsible for killing her husband and kidnapping her daughter.
Four accounted for, two to go and with her cancer eating away at her body and sapping her strength a real sense of time becoming her greatest enemy.
Violence comes to her home as an elite group flies in helicopters under the radar to catch Beatrix unaware.
Her daughter, Isabella barely survives the raid and her Mum is racked with guilt that all her preparation to help her survive has be wasted and time together missed as result.
The last kill demands travelling to the USA as Control has placed himself in an impregnable fortress. Beatrix takes her daughter to New York for one last special time, sightseeing and shopping.
But has she kept Isabella close to help her or just because she can't bear to be parted one last time?
It is quite heartbreaking as the clock ticks down and Beatrix is separated from Isabella on what appears to be a one way journey. She regrets involving her and hopes the plans she has made for her after her death can keep her safe.
Yet in keeping her so close to the final hit will she indirectly expose her to the very danger she has tried to prepare her for?
Heart-rending, all action, thrills, twists and despair.

Blood and Roses is the concluding part to the Beatrix Rose trilogy. Although providing a satisfactory conclusion, it was a bitter sweet moment, the reader knows that there will be no more to come in this series, but there could be further spin-offs (I hope).
For those who have read the previous 2 parts, you will be aware that Rose has a list of 6 names. Each one marked for death at her hand. The final 2 are in her sights, but will she be able to finish her list before her cancer makes things impossible for her. Once again this was very well written, and it only takes a few pages before things begin to pick up. With plenty of twists and turns, the reader is kept turning the pages.
I can safely say that I have enjoyed this author's works, and not one of the books has disappointed me. So, if you enjoy good thrillers, you could do a lot worse than give these books a go. Although not totally necessary, it might be worth trying to read them by seperate series, and in order.

Even moreso than book 2, the plot is known from page 1. There is a minor twist at the very end, which sets up the next series. But otherwise, there is cleverness, but little tension.
This series is a delightful shoot-em-up along the lines of Barry Eisler, but having a predetermined plot - and thus a constrained emotional range - detracts from the excellent descriptions.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Even though I knew Beatrice would die, I cried like a baby & smiled that while she may not have killed Control herself, her daughter did.Hmm..is there a series of books due to be written about her daughter?

What a great series. Shame it had to end. However, I think Isabella will be a force to be reckoned with in a future series.

Book 3, in the Beatrix Rose trilogy
The final part in this amazing trilogy is heartbreaking and sad that we have reached the final moments. Once more along with Beatrix we are on a roller-coaster ride from start to finish.
Two are left on her kill list and once more Mr. Dawson action packed thriller will have our protagonist on a chase of a life time. The action are super exciting and suspenseful and as kept me on the edge of my seat the entire 224 pages. This is a great trilogy all books were brilliantly written to provide intense action from page one. This time Beatrix travels from North Africa to New York to finally reach her goal in the swamps of North Carolina. Although our protagonist finds her final moments in “Blood and Roses” this conclusion may also open doors to a spin off with the making of a new assassin….who knows what is in store for us next.
I thoroughly enjoyed all the books for the riveting storyline, the strong characterization, the sharp narration and dialogue and mostly for having kept me captivated for many hours.
I highly recommend this trilogy. To buy all three books at once would be your best bet.

Great story
I only have one question. In this part of the series you wrote that Beatrix carried Isabella till she was delivered. But in the book The Phoenix it was stated that she was found in a room at the house there and that Beatrixand her husband had a birth certificate and passport in the name of Isabella made because Beatrix could not have children and they did not want to adopt. Also later on it was found out that Isabella had the same makeup as the ones that came after her and Pope in the Isabella series. Was this just a typo or was the story lines missed. Would really like to see more of Isabella story and like to know if Pope was killed in the Isabella latest book.
Will be waiting for more.
Went back and read the end of Phoenix and Beatrix had a birth certificate made in Port Spain for Isabella and backdated it nine months and named her Isabella Rose. So there is no way that Isabella was her natural daughter. But like I said I really enjoy all the stories of the two. Need more on Isabella's series to continue. Maybe she could take out the lab in China or the one in USA. She is the best of the genetic generated person.

This is the 3rd book of the series and the last. I didnt realise that their was 2 books before, so i will have to read them.
I really didnt think much of the book for the first few chapter as im not really into reading about combat or government sort of books. I am glad i read on tho, cus i ended up really enjoying it

IT HURTS but it had a satisfying and realistic ending. We knew that Beatrix was going to die and not everyone was going to be safe (Mohammad and Fatima were real ones) but i hated that she had to suffer from cancer and leave her daughter so soon. I am glad that she accomplished want she wanted to, left her daughter a good fortune and good lessons and at least mostly took out Control. Isabella stepped up and killed Control for her and Beatrix would be proud. Also good on Pope and Milton for coming in and wanting to finish he job of taking out Control as well.
The scene where Control was hopped up on Morphine and imagined Beatrice out of guilt and looked into Isabella's eyes as she killed him, her eyes reminding him of Beatrice was so good.

Riveting story
Riveting story
This is the third book in the series and each one was better than the one before. I loved the first book in the series, couldn't wait to read the second and absolutely could not put any of them down. If you like stories with lots of adventure, don't miss these three books. I didn't want the book to end. I hope there will be a follow up book about Isabella and her story.

I won this book in a First Reads Giveaway and I am aware that this is the last book in a trilogy. I'm going to have to work backwards as I am definitely going to read the other 2 books in this series. The fact I read this book in 24 hours speaks for itself! I would highly recommend this book and hopefully the rest of the series is just as brilliant!!

What a great book has kept me hooked right from the start. The plot continues from the first two books with Beatrix working her way through her kill list. The first chapter starts at a blistering pace with loads of action and the book continues in the same fashion. Gets a bit sad towards the end. I am new to Mark Dawson but very much like his writing style and looking forward to reading more of his books.

I’ve just read the Beatrix Rose series back to back, couldn’t put them down. I would encourage anyone to read this trilogy, an absolute must. After her husband was murdered and her daughter taken away from her and taking a bullet herself Beatrix waits 10 yrs before taking her revenge. She knows who was responsible, because they all worked for the same elite force of assassins, she being one of them herself. This is where the story begins. She has her daughter back after years of being fostered, Isabella is now 13yrs of age. Beatrix has drawn up a list of 6 people who she needs to kill and sets about it in the most ruthless way and completely without remorse. Her reputation of being the very best at her profession is proved as she takes them out one by one. There is a heartwarming and touching relationship between her and her daughter and because of other circumstances we know that Beatrix will not survive. After completing her task in the most devastating way there is still another twist to come, which, to the reader, brings great satisfaction. The ending though, leaves you with a sadness but also an anticipation of things to come.
I have read the first three of the John Milton series which I also think are brilliant ( no....dead good! )
Mark Dawson is a terrific writer, he is concise, doesn’t overelaborate on anything, keeps you enthralled and wanting to turn page after page. I must, must, must read more from him.

Not so much a review...
Did anyone else notice that scenes and dialogue from this book were lifted from Tarantino screenplays - mostly from True Romance but a little Kill Bill, too?
The scene between Control and Mohammed was the scene in True Romance between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken. Control offers a cigarette at the beginning. He has a line about world class liars just like Walken. Control kneecaps the wife instead of slashing his hands, but the arc is the same. When it becomes obvious that he and his wife will be killed, Mohammed asks for the cigarette and says something that will get him killed more quickly. Control even says something along the lines of "I haven't killed anyone since 1989" just like the movie. There is another line from Kill Bill in a scene with control and (I think) Duffy where he says "she deserves her revenge and we deserve to die."
Later, Beatrix goes to the Point and encounters a white pimp who talks like a black gangster (Gary Oldman in True Romance) and has a huge sidekick who gets his nose broken. There's a little mixing of scenes there as the conversation between Beatrix and the pimp lifts from the hotel fight scene between James Gandolfini and Patricia Arquette. Beatrix even stabs the pimp in the foot, though with a needle rather than a corkscrew.
There were a couple of other instances that struck me, as well, though I can't recall them off the top of my head.
Am I crazy or is this supposed to be an homage? It felt more like plagiarism, to me.

Control even says something along the lines of "I haven't killed anyone since 1989" just like the movie. There is another line from Kill Bill in a scene with control and (I think) Duffy where he says "she deserves her revenge and we deserve to die."
Later, Beatrix goes to the Point and encounters a white pimp who talks like a black gangster (Gary Oldman in True Romance) and has a huge sidekick who gets his nose broken. There's a little mixing of scenes there as the conversation between Beatrix and the pimp lifts from the hotel fight scene between James Gandolfini and Patricia Arquette. Beatrix even stabs the pimp in the foot, though with a needle rather than a corkscrew.
There were a couple of other instances that struck me, as well, though I can't recall them off the top of my head.
Am I crazy or is this supposed to be an homage? It felt more like plagiarism, to me.

'Blood and Roses' is the last book in the Beatrix Rose trilogy, and it ended with bang. This book, and the series as a whole, is filled with twists and surprises, and while this story had a sad and heartbreaking ending as readers knew it would, I loved Beatrix's story, and it ended the way it was supposed to.
The action and storytelling is great, and Beatrix's determination is incredible, even when the odds are stacked against her, as they always seemed to be. I liked how Isabella's own story arc played into the story, and how she helped Beatrix accomplish her own goals, and boy, is she like her mother.
I will continue to read more Mark Dawson stories, and hope that maybe somehow, he will tie these intersecting storylines through other books as well, just as he did with this one, because I feel Isabella could develop into a very strong character, just the way her mother had.
We'll miss you Beratrix, and I am looking forward to reading more of what Mark Dawson has to offer in his other series.

Beatrix finishes her revenge tour of old teammates on an elite assassin squad that killed her husband and took her daughter. At this point the cancer in her body is nearing its inevitable end and she is extremely week with her time running out. The last target was the team leader, called "Control" and the book ends shortly after she kidnaps his daughter and lures him to a meeting and detonates a bomb that takes her life and almost kills Control.
The book spends much time with Beatrix preparing her daughter, Isabella, for life after her death. She was successful enough that Isabella was able to finish the job by taking out Control. The relationship between mother and daughter takes the hard edge off the rest of the subject matter of an assassin stalking those that she believes ruined her life and leaving her with only a short time with her daughter before her inevitable death from the cancer.

I have read all of the John Milton books by Mark Dawson and really enjoyed them. I’ve now moved on to the spin-off novels about his onetime operative colleague Beatrix Rose. You learn some of her backstory in one of the Milton novels but you don’t have to have had read them to enjoy the Rose novels. I would recommend reading them in order though.
Rose is on a mission of revenge against the Firm she used to work for who sold her out to the enemy. She has a kill list which she is methodically working her way through. This is the third novel in her quest for revenge.
As with all Dawson’s novels they are action-packed page turners and this and the other Rose novels are quick and satisfying reads. It is good to see a powerful, female protagonist.

A must read
I read The BEATRIX ROSE SERIES immediately after finishing
THE JOHN MILTON SERIES. Fantastic, I read them in less than two weeks. Unable to put them down. These books flash across Europe, America and Indonesia. The world of politics, black ops and mercenaries, heroes and villains. The stories may be fiction but you see these places through the eyes of the men and women who are sent there. The poverty, pride and hopelessness that is very real, the political efforts to help, clean up, influence or more often control. It's very much the world as seen by many of our men and women serving in the military These books are fast paced, always action packed, well described as Thrillers. Bravo to the author Mark Dawson.

A predictable, yet exciting and readable conclusion to the Beatrix Rose saga. Again, 5.5 hours is insufficient writing to really call this book and the whole series "books", yet they are probably too long to be called "novellas". Ultimately they were short and enjoyable 'reads'.
Beatrix's daughter, Isabella Rose, has her own series of three books with another to follow in 2018. My whingeing about book length/size is resolved as the first three are between 8.0 and 9.0 hours in length and I will start this series in the near future.

Blood and Roses
Excellent story. Mark Dawson is a master storyteller. Beatrix weak with cancer is worried she won't fulfill her list in time. Her daughter Isabella, young but wise beyond her years is by her side, worried but doing what she can to help her mother. There are a few twists that make the story emotionally charged and a surprise visit from another beloved character. Without giving anything away, Isabelle finds her way back home to Marrakech and gets a tattoo of two gorgeous blood red roses. This story was so good I read it in less than a day. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It was a terrific ending to the Beatrix series.
