I struggled to work out just how many stars to give this story.
You see I loved it! And yet there are a fair amount of grammar/spelling issues and missing words that do take away from the readability of the story. So while I would give the plot/characters 5 stars, in all honesty I can only give the book 3 stars.
Yet once I started reading this story I got lost in the story line so much that I really did not care about the spelling/grammar issues. I was hooked into this book to the point I stayed up late totally engrossed in the story.
If you are like me, and enjoy reading Science Fiction with Aliens, Artificial intelligence, Action combat, Suspense with a strong splash of Super-Hero qualities and do not mind Self Published works than this is a must read.
I would go so far as to say that if the author had help with an editor to fix the books flaws than I could see this story becoming a five star hit.
The characters are rich, fully fleshed out, relatable, and original. I fell in love with the whole lot of them.
The plot is well layered, starting off at a solid pace and continuing strong all the way to the ending.
While the main character is bisexual, there are no actual sex acts just references to preferences and fade to black dates which leaves the reader to imagine the rest of the events of the night.
The story ends with enough resolution that I feel comfortable with closing the book, but also leaves off with a tease into the sequel. I plan on reading onward if the second book should become available.
So do I recommend this story. I do but like I said only to those who are ready to ignore the grammar issues and willing to allow themselves to be swept up into the story.

Mr Winter is a born story-teller.
He is a story teller in the oldest sense: he tells a story like he would in front of an old fireplace, caring more for narrative tension than for anything else.

"Anything else" includes characters' depth, consistency, grammar, punctuation, typos and general editing.

However, since his Were Bear Novels, he must have found an editor or paid more attention to editing himself: while there editing was so bad as to partially disrupt good stories, here editorial issues are still relevant but do not interfere too much with the reading experience.

Sentinel is the first episode in a new SF series.
The basic idea, that of the "augmented soldier" is not entirely new but it is well developed. The story has scope without being intricate, it is interesting and well constructed and one can forgive some simplistic transitions.

The author's approach to sexuality is refreshing as always but there are no actual sex scenes.
