DR. DYLAN WEST is a highly motivated medical resident who is determined to secure a coveted spot in a new, exclusive medical fellowship that specializes in LGBTQ+ medicine. She strives to win every award and honor to make her application stand out. When she doesn’t win the Intern of the Year award, given to the most promising first year resident, she quickly develops a chip on her shoulder. The award went to another resident, DR. QUINCY PARKER III. To Dylan, it appears that Quinn oozes privilege and wealth, making everything come easily to him. Even though Dylan lost the Intern of the Year award to him, she plans to win the honor of chief resident and boost her chances of securing a fellowship spot. Quinn Parker is a third-generation doctor but somehow still disappoints his parents with his pedestrian goal of becoming a cardiologist. A more elite and lucrative specialty would have been preferred. The competition for a spot in cardiology is fierce, and Quinn knows that securing the chief resident role will make his application for cardiology fellowship more desirable. They are both shocked when they are asked to plan the annual wellness retreat… together . Will they be able to set aside their differences long enough to complete the task? Surprisingly yes, and with plenty of spice along the way. But what will happen at the end of the year, when only one can be chief resident?

One thing I regret? Taking so long to pick this one up.

This book was so good. So so so good.

I absolutely loved the relationship between the MMC and the FMC. It was the perfect academic/work rivals to lovers, the banter was hilarious, and I was hooked from start to finish.

The spice was 🔥 once the slow burn ended. And boy ... did it ever burn.

I devoured this one in two days, I just couldn't put it down.

You get:
• Spicy
• Dual POV
• Medical Romance
• Rivals To Lovers
• LGBTQ+ Representation
• Mental Health Representation
• HEA

I can't wait to pick up the next book by these authors! Available on KU, ebook, and paperback.

As someone who works in healthcare, I enjoyed reading The Romance Rx. The pacing was good and the characters were charming. My only complaint it that it has the miscommunication trope, which I just hate.

Contemporary, medical, "enemies to lovers" romance, inaccurately advertised as a comedy

Dr. Dylan West is in her late twenties and is in the midst of a grueling, second-year residency in a NYC hospital. Her sister is transsexual, and knowing and loving her sister has inspired Dylan to specialize in LGBTQIA+ medical care. Dylan is extremely competitive, because she will need to be, in order to win a spot within the only fellowship program in the USA that specializes in LGBTQIA+ surgical care.

At the start of the story, Dylan is bitterly resentful of her fellow resident, Dr. Quincy Parker III. She is unprofessionally rude to him at every work encounter, because she has convinced herself that the only reason he recently won an award she intensely coveted, Intern of the Year, was because of "old-boy network" class favoritism. Quinn was born into the upper class (AKA lower "Richistan"), and she has a working-class background. She simplistically assumes that his whole life has been nothing but sunshine and roses.

In reality, Quinn is a classic "poor little rich boy." In particular, his father, who is a highly successful NYC anesthesiologist, arrogantly considers Quinn's chosen field of interventional cardiology (which employs catheters inserted through arteries rather than performing open-heart surgery) to be an "inferior" specialty.

At 20% into the novel, the plot begins a slow transition away from the enemies phase of romantic conflict via the introduction of the "forced-proximity" trope. Dylan and Quinn are asked to plan the hospital's annual wellness retreat together.

My main complaint about this novel is that it is advertised by the publisher as a romantic comedy, but it is not funny. That probably has to do with the fact that it is difficult to make a plot based on enmity amusing, unless the author employs slapstick, and many romance readers dislike slapstick, including myself, because it is a type of humiliation humor that is anything but sexy.

In terms of the use of the "enemies to lovers" trope, in general, for the FMC to remain sympathetic to readers, it is crucial that the source of her enmity toward the MMC not be due to petty and/or unjust vindictiveness, which is, unfortunately, the case for Dylan in this novel. Ideally, the FMC's initial dislike of the MMC should arise from a believable, honorable motivation. Though most times in a romance miscommunication is an obnoxious type of romantic conflict, within the enemy trope, it is an inevitably essential component. It is a demand of mainstream romance that both the FMC and the MMC be decent, honorable people. So if either MC starts out assuming the other is dishonorable in any fashion, it absolutely must be a mistaken perception. But it is crucial that the misperception does not arise merely from narrow-minded, emotionally stunted intolerance, as is the case for Dylan.

I also find the motivation for Quinn's father's disapproval of Quinn's medical career choice logically inconsistent. Yes, there is partly a desire to have his son be the inheritor of his medical practice, but mostly, there seems to be a materialistic motivation for the paternal scorn. But it makes zero sense. Quinn's father is an anesthesiologist who "mostly puts socialites to sleep for cosmetic procedures...." His father insists that his anesthesiology practice is much more lucrative than cardiology but, in the real world, interventional cardiologists make at least 60% more than anesthesiologists do.

Both the vinegar of Dylan's personality and the sweetness of Quinn's seem poorly motivated, based on the personalities of their most influential parental figures. Dylan was raised by a mother who is very sweet-natured and kind, but Dylan is caustic and harsh. And Quinn was raised by a man who is scathing and domineering, but Quinn is a pleasant, "live and let live" Cinnamon Roll. Typically, again, in the real world, a man traumatized by harshness in his own family is not going to be drawn to a woman who is constantly rude to him in the same fashion, unless he is so badly psychologically messed up that being abused feels "normal" to him. There are plenty of women who would be attracted to Quinn because of his looks, intelligence, job prospects, and his gentle nature, all of which would make him prime future-father material. It seems more a cause for reader pity than admiration that he is interested in someone like Dylan.

Finally, I really get tired of authors who routinely have all of their MMCs refer to their adult FMCs as a "girl." They would never call an MMC over the age of 18, "boy," which is such a deadly insult, the same authors who consider all adult women, "girls," rarely even refer to a teenage male character as the boy that he actually is. This artistic choice is a painfully outdated, linguistic double standard.

I don't personally enjoy the doctor and hospital soap operas on nighttime TV. But there have been multiple other doctor novels, besides this one, that I've read and enjoyed. To give an idea of what my personal taste is, so that anyone reading this review can consider the source, here are some of my recommendations:

Written by a medical doctor:

Jill Blake has authored quite a few wonderful doctor romances.

Written by an author who is not a doctor, and accurately advertised as romantic comedy:

"Hotshot Doc" by R.S. Grey

"Bachelor Doctor" by Barbara Boswell

I really enjoyed this book. It contains so many of the tropes I love: enemies to lovers, witty banter, cinnamon roll MMC, forced proximity, he falls first, and dual POV just to name a few. It is self described as a slow burn, but for me it felt like a fast paced slow burn without it going to insta love. I know that sounds really weird, but the slow burn was SO good. The authors also skipped a lot of the time they spent apart due to their careers, so that you can tell that time had passed, but didn’t bore us with the details. I appreciated that so much.

I love medical dramas/romances, so this book was perfect for me! I enjoyed Dylan – she stood her ground at first, she didn’t want to be swayed, but she had no problem admitting when she was wrong and apologizing. Quinn, oh Quinn. While some of his dialogue regarding his feelings felt a little immature at times, I appreciated the sentiment. I love when a guy falls first and does anything to get the girl. The feelings between these two were palpable.

While Quinn wants to go into cardiology, Dylan wants to help those in the LGBTQIA+ community. I really enjoyed that aspect of the book and wish we got a little more about her sister. But maybe her sister can get her own book!

There are some spicy scenes in here as well, so if you like that, then this book is for you!

This is a must read for romance lovers.

RATING: 4.5/5

Don’t be fooled by the cute cartoon cover of “Romance Rx” by Kathryn Riya. Inside is a steamy romance between two doctors going after the same position. Dylan is highly competitive and creates this impression of Quinn as someone who comes from a privileged background having the upper hand. What she doesn’t realize is that Quinn views himself as a disappointment to his parents, and he hopes that if he lands a higher role at the hospital, it will make his parents happy. But the universe has other plans for Dylan and Quinn. The two are forced to plan a retreat together. While they are planning, then their relationship shifts.

I usually find text communication annoying in books, but “Romance Rx” truly conveyed the personality differences in communication styles between Dylan and Quinn. In addition, the texts didn’t dominate the story. The steamy scenes were surprisingly hot. Quinn can undoubtedly throw down with his bad self. Overall, I enjoyed the story as well as the writing.

Thank you, @haylingbookstorm Author PA & PR Services and Kathryn Riya’, for the gifted copy of “Romance RX. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Quinn and Dylan are co-residents together. Dylan spends most of book being a twattwaffle to Quinn, but despite this, he is still stupid into her. Twattwaffling must be his kink #nokinkshaming. But for real tho, Quinn is a medical king- hot, ripped, nice, smart, attentive, and he’s willing to put up with all of Dylan’s competitive gunner energy.

Dylan has no room for living her best Grays Anatomy Ho-life. She has her eye on her future as the chief resident and landing a competitive fellowship. Boring!! Girl forget about your future career. Focus on the present- getting into that guy’s scrubs. He’s gonna be an interventional cardiologist…let him do all the hard work so you can work part time and be happy! #feminism.

This book is a cute medical love story written by real doctors. There is a lot of medical jargon that may be off putting to some, but it was like kinky dirty talk for me. My only notes are that Dylan and Quinn missed many opportunities for hospital hooking up (call room, back hallways, storage closets, empty ORs, stairways, abandoned ambulances, morgue, etc) bc they are professionals. I didn’t come here for professionalism, I came for medical fantasy! Keep the HO in OSHA!

✨🖤 The Romance Rx by Kathryn Riya ✨🖤

Let me start by saying as an acute care Nurse working in the medical field, I have always shied away from reading medical themed books bc they always made me cringe due to how inauthentic and fake they felt….HOWEVER THE ROMANCE Rx was the most Authentic medical novel I have ever read!!! It was so enjoyable. The characters, the banter, and the plot were woven so perfectly with what really goes on in the field (right down to some of the medical jokes that had me giggling to my self) and if even you aren’t a healthcare worker as the reader you are able to follow because the author does an amazing job of explaining things that could be confusing — but does in such a way that allows the book to flow effortlessly. Our MCs were both strong, smart and driven intellectuals but also so sweet, loving and kind. I not only loved seeing them together but also separate. They had their own story lines but also was dependent on the other. If gave you that feeling of where you root for both but you’re not sure who you want to come out on top. But don’t worry, trust the process and as in all romance there may be some bumps but we will get our HEA. Overall this was a great debut novel, and can’t wait to read more by Kathryn Riya

First thought: I’m always down for a medical romance and this one didn’t disappoint. It was definitely a slow burn but there is definitely some promised spice towards the end. It was fun following this duo through their second year of residency it felt like being in an episode of Grays Anatomy.

Dylan needs to get the spot of Chief Resident, it would make her stand out. That will then hopefully get her one of the coveted fellowship in LGBTQ+ medicine program. Which is near and dear to her as Dylan’s sister is part of that community that is highly underserved. So she will do whatever it takes to stand out this year and the one guy standing in her way is Quinn.

Quinn was named Resident of the Year last year and he needs to continue to stand out to get into the competitive cardiology fellowship. He’s always admired Dylan but for some reason she hates him and won’t give him the time of the day.

This year things will be different as they have been paired up to plan the second year resident retreat. That means besides their long hours during their shifts they will have to spend more time together.

Can Quinn turn around Dylan’s opinion of him and hopefully get a chance with the girl he’s crushing on. Or will this rivalry be all Dylan sees and she’ll miss out on the chance of more. You’ve got to read this one to find out.

Literally Themes you’ll find:

* Rivals to Friends to Lovers
* Forced Proximity
* One Hotel Room
* Slow Burn
* Second Year Residents
* Hospital Setting NYC
* LGBTQ Rep
* Dual POV
* Spice

In this captivating medical romance, the lives of two competitive second-year residents intertwine as they vie for a prestigious fellowship. Dylan, the fierce female protagonist, impresses with her unwavering determination and clear career goals. Meanwhile, Quinn, initially perceived as a privileged rich kid, reveals his depth through his caring relationship with his grandfather, showcasing a more vulnerable side.

While the story brims with engaging dynamics and familiar romance tropes like enemies-to-lovers and steamy encounters, it also admirably includes LGBTQIA+ representation and employs a dual point of view that enriches the narrative. The use of text conversations to reveal character traits is a delightful touch, offering insight into their personalities beyond face-to-face interactions.

However, Dylan's swift judgment of Quinn at the outset feels inconsistent, given her own experiences with prejudice. This aspect could have been explored more empathetically, highlighting her growth throughout the story. Despite this, the book remains a well-written gem, accurately portraying the medical field and defying expectations hidden behind its charming cover.

A fascinating detail about the authors, Kathryn Riya, adds a layer of authenticity as both are physicians who crossed paths during their fellowship. Their firsthand knowledge enriches the narrative, making this romance not only compelling but also grounded in medical realism.

Overall, this book delivers on its promises with a blend of romance, authenticity, and a reminder not to judge a book by its cover—a sentiment that resonates long after the last page is turned.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I love seeing medical romances popping up more and more, in books that is! Kathryn gives us a book that has tension you can feel, romance you eat up, and a slow burn that when it gets going, it burns!!!

Quinn (MMC) and Dylan (FMC) have been rivals all throughout their residency. Both eyeing the same position, these two are constantly in each other’s way. Dylan is determined to become chief resident which will lead to an amazing fellowship.

Quinn is McDreamy and McSteamy all rolled into one. He has the looks, the brains, is super nice, and loves to get under Dylan’s skin. He meets Dylan toe for toe when it comes to being competitive. He is trying to keep his title of Resident of the Year and land the fellowship he wants.

Kathryn writes a medical romance that is filled with accurate medical terminology and scenarios. This was a delight. Where some can be turned off by the technical jargon, it was refreshing to see real world within the fictional pages. She also reminds readers to slow down and enjoy life. There will always be the job, the next big thing, the next competitor. Those things don’t go away. What will go away is the chance of a great relationship that may be everything you’ve been wanting.

Even if you didn’t know you were looking for it.

As always review trigger warnings before reading.

The sweet yet steamy medical romance was so cute!

Things I loved: the LGBTQ+ representation, and loved that Dylan was so professionally inspired by her sister. Dylan and Quinn’s relationship despite the professional rivalry. Good friends like Miley. And of course, Grandpa Jim!

💊 Enemies to lovers
🩺 Academic/work rivals
💊 Slow burn
🩺 Witty banter
💊 Cinnamon roll MMC
🩺 Fierce independent FMC
💊 Forced proximity
🩺 reverse grumpy x sunshine
💊 Dual POV

I will say I knocked off a star for the third act breakup. While that’s not my favorite ever, I really disliked this one. For how fiercely independent and absolutely brilliant Dylan is, I felt like the miscommunication sold her short. It made her seem impulsive and immature, which the rest of the novel was effective in proving otherwise. There is an HEA, but this situation just didn’t feel right to me and was disappointing.

Alright now for a fun fact: Kathryn Riya is actually two authors, Kathryn and Riya (much like Christina Lauren)! They are both physicians, who met while they were fellows. I have to say, working in medicine I tend to criticize medical settings in books as they often feel inauthentic or are sometimes even flat out incorrect. That was not the case with this book! Everything was so accurate and realistic, which I appreciated so much.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Opposites attract when no-nonsense Dylan and go-with-the-flow Quinn have to navigate their feelings for each other and winner-take-all professional advancement in the the fast passed world of hospital medicine. Written by two doctors, the realism, in terms of daily nitty-gritty, and physician personality types, is well done. If cheesy medical melodrama has broken your immersion before, you will find none of that here.
Dylan is well-intended, and on a quest to make everything perfect around her. She has dreams, but could those dreams possibly include love? Quinn, meanwhile, seems to be running on easy mode, but he has struggles and aspirations he is too reserved to share with just anyone. Maybe Dylan could be the one he finally shares them with. If only she would get off his case already.
Evolving over an entire year of their training, things heat up with a nice slow burn, and some much needed spice at just the right time. Heartbreak, regret, reconciliation, just in time for graduation. A fun romance with good characters, even bristly Dylan.

This book was SO Good and made me wanna immediately grab another doctor romance. The banter was perfect, the tension was spicy, and the plot was just as important as the spice.

The Romance RX follows Dylan and Quinn, rivals for the coveted chief resident position, as they get to know each other and fall in love despite the fact they both want the same position.

Also, shoutout to my girl Elaine Scholte, who did an IMMACULATE job of narrating this book. It definitely would not have been the same without her distinct voices and emotive narration. PLEASE, if you are going to read this book, listen to it. You won't regret it. Such a great book to get me back into audiobooks.

ARC Review ✨️
☆A must-read steamy romance☆
Dr. Dylan is trying to secure her spot in a medical fellowship that specializes in LGBTQ+ medicine. Her rival Quinn ends up taking her place. Quinn is a third-generation doctor, but he wants to work in cardiology. He knows he has a better chance of doing that by securing the chief resident role. Since Dylan already lost to Quinn once, she's determined not to let it happen again. Little do they know, but now they have to put their differences aside and plan the wellness retreat together.
I thought this was an excellent debut novel! The romance, spice, and tension between them were so good! I also liked the fact that the medical terms were explained in the beginning so people who aren't familiar can still follow along with ease. I loved the characters and how they're dislike for one another gradually turned into love. I can't wait to read more from these authors!

This book was great. The audiobook narrator has a true talent for voices and I always appreciate that. The novel itself is written by twin female physicians and I loved knowing I was supporting women in STEM. The book was enjoyable, although I personally didn’t love all of the explanations for what was happening during their residency. I do think it levels the playing field and educates people that may be less familiar with that, however, which was great. I loved all of the characters and wish the minor characters would have gotten more attention. This is an open door romance, and at one point the plot completely falls away for them to explore each other. At first it felt a bit weird to me, but after sitting with it I realized that it was actually a kind of fun way to break up the technical with the romance. Thank you to the authors and narrator for this audiobook via an Instagram giveaway.

Steamy romance in the workplace? yes yes and yes. I really adored this book and the characters. The trope ‘’he falls first’’ is the elite trop if you are asking me. I was living and breathing for their scenes together.

Rounding up but I would rate it about a 3.75/5. I really enjoyed the banter between Dylan and Quinn! They often had me giggling to myself. It was a quick and fun read with some steamy scenes. I know it’s known to be an enemies to lovers but I felt that they became lovers too quick. I was left wanting a bit more tension between the two main characters before their romance unfolded. I really enjoyed the medical scenes and liked that there was a glossary of terms included in the book. I also really liked that the FMC is an Ali Hazelwood fan just like me! The two tones in the story was noticeable as it is two authors writing the book but this didn’t bother me, kind of makes the dual point of view more fun. Overall I look forward to reading more from these authors!

This was a great medical romance! Thank you to the authors for my copy!

Dylan and Quinn are both second year residents in Internal Medicine with dreams to be chief resident. They’re academic rivals, but Quinn doesn’t see them as rivals. Dylan doesn’t like Quinn, but they have to plan a retreat together. The tension builds, there’s a one bed moment, and they become romantically linked! Quinn definitely falls first! There’s some open door spice too 🌶

As a woman in Stem, I believe this was very medically accurate! There is also a side character who is trans with representation of the LGBTQ + community!

I recently had I recently had a 7hr flight and a copy of The Romance Rx on ebook. I downloaded a text-to-voice app and settled in. I typically don’t care for hospital settings because they tent to turn into overly detailed procedurals. This was such a pleasant surprise. It had heart! The book follows the story of 2 hospital residents competing for the same resume boosting accolade. Their competition turns to respect, admiration, and ultimately love. The story kept my attention for sure. I look forward to Kathryn Riya’s next title!
