But does she have the strength to step out of the facade and into the truth?
Some secrets won’t stay buried.
Ava isn't the only one harboring secrets. Another survivor, shrouded in mystery, hides a deceptive identity. What is the truth and what is merely an illusion? Beneath the surface of Bookland, secrets lie buried, waiting to be unearthed. What revelations await beneath this veneer of perfection?
In the depths of shadows, darkness gathers.
As Ava glimpses the possibility of a new beginning, a sinister force more powerful than the night threatens to destroy the very foundation of Bookland. An old menace returns, and Ava finds herself on the brink of an abyss. With every choice she makes, the stakes rise higher, and the fate of Bookland hangs in the balance. As darkness encroaches, Ava must gather all her courage and determination for one final stand. But will it be enough to save herself and those she loves? Or will they all be consumed by the darkness?

Listen, if you would have told me this time last year that YA novels with zombies would be some of my favorite reads of the year, I wouldn’t have expected it to be true. But here we are, with multiple reads of every title in the Bookland series (and also The Fiercest Chicken in the Bookstore, which has no zombies but does feature a chicken. IYKYK.) under my belt. They’re funny and action-packed and surprisingly comforting and I have a major crush on Doc.
Because here’s the thing about this book: There are zombies, yes. But they’re not the main point (for me, anyway). In between the zombie events there’s also a whole lot of humor and character development and thoughtful insight into real life. I’m not sharing some of my very favorite quotes on account of spoilers, but “Sometimes if you pick at one thread, you accidentally unravel the whole sweater.”
