Michael Segedy is an award winning author. Over the years he has lived abroad in faraway places such as Taiwan, Israel, Morocco, and Peru. His life overseas has inspired him to write thrillers that include scenes set in foreign lands.

I rec'd Michael Segedy's Evils's Root: A Political Thriller as a free give away winner. I was not aware he had other books before this one. This was my first read of Michael Segedy. I always read the free books I win on Goodreads, I always rate the book and give an honest review as soon as possible.
Evil's Root is a true political thriller. The book contains 43 chapters all appear to be in small print for an old woman. True to my word I began reading and realized in no time I had read 14 chapters. I could hardly wait to get back to my reading.
Evil's Root contains plenty of action,intrigue,romance and shows the power moves of our men in goverment. Politics, corrupion and romance; who could ask for more?

Firstly, I would like to thank Michael segedy and Goodreads for my free copy of Evil's Root in exchange for an honest review.
Evil's Root is a combination of Michael Segedy's In Deep and Cupiditas.
This novel has it all drug lords,corrupt government officials,romance,drama,twists and political intrigue. in the first part of the novel I didn't feel the thriller moments, the hold your breath as you read moments. When Collins is sitting in the chair with a gun to his head you want to feel how scared he is, I just didn't feel it. loved the twists and Indiana Jones style romance.
The second part of the novel gave the reader much more a the story started to evolve and escalate. The ending was definitely hold your breath drama and I loved,loved,loved it! This was no happy ever after romance story. Overall I enjoyed this novel,slow in parts, but well worth the read.

This is an interesting thriller exposing much of the merky world of politics and corruption in South America that you don't see on the news. The writer has lived in Peru, where the novel is set, and it shows as he clearly knows the country and its people very well.

The plotting is quite intricate but comprehensible, and there is a lot of guessing who are the good guys and the bad guys! The charcterisation is good, and there is always plenty going on. Much more of a political thriller than an action thriller, this is definitely worth a read if you are looking for something to stretch your mind and horizons to a part of the world I was unfamiliar with.

Now I understand why In Deep(Segedy's other political thriller), which I read back in November seemed to abruptly end. In Deep was really the first half of this book. I'm happy I decided to read Evil's Root. This is definitely a great climax for the first book. I recommend that readers buy this Evil's Root because it contains both In Deep and Cupiditas. I enjoyed the suspense, the intrigue, the minor and major characters, but probably more than anything, the romantic connection between the two major characters,Steve Collins and Jennifer Strand.

A wonderfully powerful tale of romance, suspense, and political intrigue. The novel has memorable characters and social and political commentary that is right on the mark. And it moves fast. Excellent writing. You won't put it down until the last page.
