Fatherhood Guide Book

Championship Fathering is a good guide book to fathering, meant primarily for communities that are deficient in this area, but worth reading for men of all backgrounds. I liked the anecdotal style of the author, which drove experiences and examples closer to the reader. I also appreciated the items to focus on at the end of each chapter. There should be more books of this type as the need for good fathers in society grows, but also to provide goals for fathers to aspire to.

3.5ish stars.

I picked this book up when I found out my wife was pregnant because I’ve heard Carey Casey speak and enjoyed what he had to say. There’s some great information in this book, but I was a bit disappointed with it. A lot of it seemed like basic, common sense type info to me. Obviously, the application of it could be challenging, but there were very few things that I read and had never considered before.

It’s also geared toward older children. My daughter is under a year old at the moment, so 99% is what I read is getting filed under “for future reference,” which is great, but not so helpful in the moment.

I’ll put this one on the shelf for a few more years and maybe come back to it when she’s in preschool and forward.

I like this book's simple, practical suggestions to help dads connect with their children. If you are strapped for time, Carey gives ideas, broken down by age groups, at the end of each chapter.
