양아치 소굴의 은장고등학교. 학기가 시작한 지 일주일이 지나지 않았지만, 이미 학교의 계급은 정해져 있었다. 그 중에서 키가 작고 하얀 피부, 연약한 이미지의 연시은은 먹잇감이 되기에 충분했다. 그러니 시비를 걸어오는 것은 어쩌면 당연한 일이었는지도 모른다. 하지만 순식간에 벨트로 상대방의 손을 묶은 후 뺨을 갈기는 연시은의 모습은 학급의 모든 이들을 경악하게 만든다. 그것이 곧 은장고 1학년 연시은의 충격적인 데뷔전이었다.

소문을 빠르게 퍼지고, 많은 이들이 연시은의 실체를 목격하기 위해 찾아온다. 하지만 너무나 연약해 보이는 그의 모습은 모두를 의아해하게 만든다. 그 와중에 박후민, 고현탁, 진가율은 연시은에게 호기심을 품는다. 그리고 시비를 걸었던 녀석들의 꼬리를 물며 은장고 바깥 고등학교에서도 연시은을 주목하기 시작한다. 그로 인해 연시은을 둘러싼 싸움판은 점점 더 커지기 시작한다!

Absolute masterpiece!!
I love the fact that Gray keeps pulling up insane tactics to fight against people, beating all odds. I am excited that everyone (Eugene, Gray, Alex, Ben, and Gerard) is becoming friends, and I like the introduction of Rowan's character. The narration somehow still mentioning Stephen makes it even more riveting because he is, in a way, a core element not only in the narrative but also in Gray's life and impacts his decisions/actions even if he is not present.
My favorite quote from this volume is:

"Gray remembered, without realizing, the word he'd hidden in his heart after those days. Friend."

Furthermore, one detail I have noticed is the symbolism used to emphasize each character's strength or weakness. For instance, Baekjin wears a long jacket with the Egyptian god, Rê, in the back while he is building up the Union. We know that Rê is the sun god in Egyptian mythology, but also the creator of the universe. He is the supreme sovereign and embodies cosmic justice. By drawing Baekjin wearing this specific jacket, he is placed as THE big figure in the story, the ultimate boss, and is the perfect representation of his place in the Union: that of the almighty sovereign.
I can not wait to see how he will be defeated (if that ends up happening)!!

I picked up Weak Hero after watching the Netflix adaptation, and honestly, it turned out to be a great decision. What surprised me was the contrast in pacing and impact between the two mediums—while the first season of the Netflix show felt stronger than the second, in the webtoon it was quite the opposite. The series really hits its stride as it progresses, building emotional weight and tension in a way that’s hard to put down.

What stood out most for me was the depth of character development. Even side characters—those who might seem minor at first—were given satisfying arcs and real closure. No one felt like filler. The webtoon does an excellent job of humanizing even its antagonists, giving you a glimpse into what drives them, and sometimes even making you sympathize with them. It’s not just a story about high school violence; it’s about broken people, loyalty, trauma, and personal growth.

This was a thoroughly engaging and rewarding read. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more work from the writer, because if Weak Hero is anything to go by, they have a real talent for storytelling.
