The Rogue Rider: A Dragon Rider Fantasy Adventure

Rate this book
Five years after the Battle for Kierell, the Sky Riders are betrayed by one of their own.

Elka Haggaur knows that she can be more than a pretty face, if only she’s given the chance to prove it. Earning the respect of her brothers is all she’s ever wanted and becoming a Sky Rider might be the way to do it. But living up to her family's expectations will require huge sacrifices. And the struggle to find her own path will twist her loyalties to breaking point.

After living as a Sky Rider for two years Elka flees Kierell with a stolen artifact. She and her dragon return to her home in the city of Taumerg but little does she realise the danger she has brought with her. While being pursued by Aimee, Nathine and Pelathina, Elka uncovers her brothers' true intentions, and begins to understand the evil she has unleashed.

With time running out to save herself and her dragon, Elka faces an impossible choice—betray the Riders she has grown to love, or betray her own kin?

About the author

Kerry Law

Kerry Law is an international Amazon #1 bestselling author of epic YA fantasy books.

Kerry grew up reading fantasy in the 90s and found that there weren’t many inspiring female characters, or in some cases any female characters! Thankfully a lot has changed since then but she still enjoys redressing that imbalance by writing fantasy books full of awesome female characters.

She also has vitiligo – a skin condition which gives her patches of colourless, pigment-free skin – and this has been a big source of inspiration for Kerry. It’s what she gave Aimee, her protagonist in the Sparks series. It’s harder for Aimee, because in her world, patchy skin makes her a freak, but we know better, we know that really it makes her special.

Kerry also finds inspiration for her fantasy worlds in the magical landscapes of Scotland, where she lives. She’s convinced there are dragons living among the mountains and lochs. And she especially thinks Edinburgh is the most magical of cities and it’s the inspiration behind her Old Town Trilogy.

The Sparks series is an emotional dragon rider fantasy adventure where an outcast must rise above prejudice, bond with a dragon and claim her place among warriors. All 4 books in the series are available now.

The Old Town Trilogy is a dark urban fantasy set in an alternate 18th century Edinburgh full of magic and monsters. Books 1 and 2 are available now with book 3 due for publication in early 2026.

wow wow wow what a series!!

5 years after saving their city in the battle, the riders are betrayed by a fellow rider who wants to steal something for her family thinking this will finally let her belong and become important to them. she soon realises it's too late and she's made the wrong choice, eventually having to kill her own two brothers before dying herself.

cried at some parts and would recommend anyone to read this series!!

Absolutely devastated this series has ended

I cannot begin to tell you range of emotions I felt whilst reading the series. This is by far my favourite series I have ever read of any genre. I feel like I’ve managed to gain bonds with each and every character Kerry has written and I’ve even fallen in love with every single dragon.

I really didn’t like Elka to begin with, but like every other character she grew on me rapidly and I absolutely adored Inelle, so chapter 32 absolutely destroyed my soul without giving too much away, so if you know you know. I can honestly say I have never cried so much in my whole life. It’s actually really hard to write a review because I feel like I’m gonna be in a major slump after this right now, I’m just in shock!

I really hope Kerry does some more books like this because I really thoroughly enjoyed the journey she’s taking me on.

Enjoyable Series

I like most dragon stories, and this one was very good. Parts of it were frustrating, such as riders worrying about falling out of their saddles in flight - why not put a harness on? And during fights, especially with warriors in boats, it drove me a little crazy that they just didn't have the dragons drop big rocks into the boats and sink them - but the story was innovative and exciting, and the characters were people I grew to care about. I highly recommend the series.

The Rogue Rider

This is a story of impossible choices, betrayal, and redemption. Elka would do anything to be accepted by her family. So she comes up with a plan. She becomes a sky rider and finds more acceptance in them than her own family. She is forced to betray her rider family and will pay the ultimate price. Really loved seeing the sky riders. I hope the series continues.

Loved it!

I enjoyed all the books. Kerry has a great way with words. The banter between the characters, their relationships, their growth. Brilliant.
Aimee's journey in the first three is truly relatable and touching.
But this one...it killed me. Even though I could tell where it was headed, it's not predictable at all.
She unveiled a heartbreaking and wonderful story.
Highly recommended.

Oh My Heart!

Let me tell you...if you haven't started the series...WAIT!!! I mean that. Go back to the first book and start from the beginning. Because they only get better. But this one...oof....this one stole the show. Really set itself apart from the rest and gave the ending a heartfelt twist that you didn't see until it was there. What a wonderful read!!

Moving and Surprising!

This book was a hard start for me after reading the first 3 and getting so attached to Aimee, Nathine and the Riders. Elka was a hard character to like but through the book you see the good peek out and feel torn about her. Surprised by the ending! Definitely didn’t see that coming and had me in tears. Really enjoyed the whole Sky Riders series

Elka was infuriating. Would have been a 2 star but the good ending earned it an extra. The catalyst for the nosedive this book took being a thug with a pistol threatening the life of a dragon who lives on borderline unclimbable cliffs was eye roll worthy. The original trilogy was good but this just wasn’t on the same level at all.

Sparks Series book 4

The first three books were such an amazing ride, I loved every minute of them. This one read a little slower, still a good read but the first three were fantastic.

Good ending.

Honestly I almost put the book down because I couldn't stand the story for a long time but the writer successfully wrapped it up into exactly what her first three books were... So good job This was a great series

A really great read.

The characters are really well written, and the dragons are awesome. It was a great plot, well developed and paced. It's definitely one of my favourites and well worth reading. Just one suggestion, Kerry, please write some more like this.

Great read

This book takes you into a steampunk setting but then pulls you into the world we’ve come to love. It is very reminiscent of Brandon Sanderson.
