Stop Bullshitting Yourself has descriptive copy which is not yet available from the Publisher. Legendary NBA trainer Drew Hanlen—performance coach to stars like MVP Joel Embiid and Jayson Tatum—reveals his proven, step-by-step system for personal and professional transformation that has fueled the success of some of the top athletes and business leaders in the world.
If you clicked on this book, it’s because somewhere deep down, you know you’ve been bullshitting yourself. You know that making more money, landing a better job, and finally getting in great shape will make your life better. But for some reason, you’ve settled.
You’ve read self-help books, listened to peak-performance podcasts, dieted and exercised, and tried countless other remedies. But you still haven’t found solutions to your biggest problems. What can you start doing to finally turn your life around?
The answer is to Stop Bullshitting Yourself. This book is a game plan for doing just that.
For the past two decades, Drew Hanlen has helped many of the world’s best basketball players reach levels that they didn’t think were attainable—from winning gold medals, championships, MVP and scoring titles to being selected to the All-Star and All-NBA teams.
In Stop Bullshitting Yourself, you’ll learn the system that has propelled them to success, and how to apply these same strategies to every aspect of your life.
Designed for those who are tired of making empty promises to themselves and who are ready to make real change in their lives, Stop Bullshitting Yourself provides a step-by-step approach to:
Audit and eliminate the excuses, thoughts, and habits holding you back. Develop detailed Blueprint Bubbles to facilitate action using simple, achievable steps. Design MicroShifts, repeatable behaviors that break down your goals into manageable chunks. Put in The Unseen Hours: work that works. If you’re tired of making excuses and ready to achieve the results you've always wanted, let’s get started.
It's the perfect year for this book! We all deal with bs. Ours and other people's and it's such a gruesome time in the world. This book taps into practical guidelines to achieve a more cultivated you. I really enjoyed the idea and execution! Thank you #morrowpartner and William Morrow books for the advance reader copy!
I don’t love this book. I feel that it could use additional editing and to possibly be reworked as a workbook. If I saw this book in a store and flipped through it to see the large sections for lists and illustrations, I would put it back since it isn’t marketed as a workbook. Some of the illustrations and portions of text pulled out and placed into boxes for emphasis were unnecessary which feels like an attempt to lengthen the book without adding any substance. The tone overall feels “stream of consciousness” to me which is fine, but comes across as disorganized. I certainly could have read this in one sitting (I read fast so maybe 2 hours for me.), but I choose to put it down and read it over a few days as I felt that I was judging it harshly. I truly hope the author/publishing team take the critiques from the ARC readers before the final edits are complete. The idea is great, but it needs work.
I especially want to love every book I read, especially when I receive them for free through giveaways or as ARCs. Unfortunately this one missed the mark for me.
If you need that boost of confidence to start that diet, take that leap into a business, or start working on your financial goals this is the book for you. Especially, if you’re in the young ages between 18-30 in my opinion. This book is straight and right to the point of stop bullshitting yourself, it uses multiple stories to help the reader understand what he’s talking about. I’ve read so many in self help or motivational books in the past I thought this was going to be same, but boy was I wrong. He was able to show me points of views of things I knew but he Drew helped pivot the viewpoint and tailor it to the young reader and help them get started on their goals. Thank you Drew. I can’t wait to read more books from you.
I won an advance reader’s copy of this book through Goodreads.
As I read this book I kept expecting it to BRO at me every third sentence. “Stop making excuses, bro.” “Just do it, bro.” It also had a lot of typical gym bro phrases that influencers like to throw around. Perhaps it’s my age and gender, but I don’t talk like that. And I can’t take people seriously when they do talk like that.
Aside from that, if you have already read Tiny Habits, that’s basically what this book was. Just read Tiny Habits instead, at least it’s well written and paragraphs are longer than two or three sentences.
I’m not really the target audience here- giving it 4 stars, because a younger me might have benefited from this, but currently it just feels very surface-level to me. “Atomic Habits” was a lot more effective in breaking down how to modify your tendencies, but I think a 14 year old athlete would prefer this book.
Nothing really groundbreaking here, imo, but it’s a short and sweet lil run through how to do what you desire if you’re a super focused type A sorta person.
Really good book on having the right mindset and most importantly HOW to get the right mindset. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, and look forward to implementing the strategies to achieve my goals. Will definitely be reading it again and again!
A very heavy handed sports analogy book. I feel like this is so focused towards men. I agree with one other reviewer that said this should be more of a workbook than an actual book. I just feel like it could be so much shorter and the point is just hammered too much.
Not bad. But if you've read a motivational book before, then you've more or less read this one. A couple of newer, more interesting ideas, but mostly cliches and platitudes.
Really motivational along with tools to help you commit and create change , def recommend I liked how there were also personal stories and examples along the way , very insightful
I know several people that this book would be perfect for. People who are on the verge of being able to do something, and need that little bit extra motivation.
But there were many times throughout this book, that I felt the ongoing message was simply “be better by being better”.
I could see this book working especially well for NBA fans.
A special thanks to Goodreads, and William Morrow publishing for the advanced copy. #giveaway
