Bootleg Springs #3

Moonshine Kiss

Rate this book

Moonshine Kiss is book three in the Bootleg Springs series by Claire Kingsley and Lucy Score. Each book in this series can be read as a stand alone but there is a continuing story that continues through the series, the disappearance of Callie Kendall. The prime suspect is now the deceased father of the Bodine siblings. Each book is about a different sibling. This book focuses on Bowie and his sister Scarlett’s best friend, Cassidy.

Bowie Bodine is the Vice Principal of the Bootleg Springs High School and has lived in Bootleg Springs his entire life. He has also loved Cassidy Tucker most all of his life. But, she is his little sister’s best friend, is the sheriff’s daughter, the same sheriff who was more of a father to him than his own ever was, and he is the son of a man who was a suspect in a decade old missing person case, a man who had never had a stable life, a man who could never be good enough for her. And, he had made a promise. And if there was one thing that Bowie Bodine always did, it was to keep his promises.

police woman

Cassidy Tucker has been in love with Bowie probably since kindergarten. She and her best friend Scarlett fantasized when they were kids of planning the wedding, of being real sisters some day. But when Cassidy was nineteen, she finally had to accept that Bowie would never see her as anything other than his little sister’s best friend. Her heart was broken. She pursued her other love, to be a police deputy and work under her father. Her hope was to someday take over his job when he retired. She loved her town, and loved her job. There was always that little hole in her heart where Bowie was concerned. It didn’t help that they now lived right next door to each other. They each shared half of a house with only a door separating them.

Detective Connelly from the State Police Department has set up camp in their police station to investigate the newest evidence in the Callie Kendall case. It doesn’t take him long to gain the dislike of the entire town. And for some reason, he seems to have a huge dislike for Cassidy. He is just looking for a reason to fire her. He knows of her closeness with the Bodine family and as far as he is concerned, they are all guilty by association.

It’s been eight years since Bowie broke Cassidy’s heart by lying to her about his feelings. It’s a daily torture to try to keep his feelings hidden. He’s been sending all kinds of mixed messages but he can’t help it. She’s the only woman he’s ever wanted.

Bowie and Cassidy finally get their chance and Bowie is all in. He’s wasted all these years and he knows what he wants. But he has lost Cassidy’s trust. She doesn’t trust that he won't hurt her again. Then there is the fact that Detective Connelly has threatened her with her job, a job she loves, if she doesn’t stay away from the Bodine family. Maybe they can just date in secret for awhile to explore their feelings for one another. That way she can keep her job and finally get to experience the man she has fantasized about all her life.

Okay, first, I really did love this. Once Bowie was in, he was ALL in. He was adorable. This was actually a pretty long book. And I felt like a lot more of it was dedicated to the Callie Kendall case this time. There is some new evidence uncovered and some new hypothesis of what could have happened with the death of their own mother. There are still so many unanswered questions though. I really am dying to know the answers.

While I loved delving more into the whole mystery part of this, I wish it hadn’t taken so long for Bowie and Cassidy to get going. I am completely in love with this town, though. These residents are a wacky, moonshine guzzling bunch and I love every one of them. What I especially love is the way they stick together, the way they have each other’s backs.

moonshine

Bowie and Cassidy were made for each other, were two halves of a whole, they always had been. It makes me sad that they wasted so much time but it was wonderful watching them finally get their chance to make things right. They wobble a bit and make some mistakes. But with the whole town behind them, they are destined to find their way. There were some hints that Cassidy’s sister, Junie, might be next in line to get her own happy ever after. That is one story I can’t wait to read.

This was my least favorite book in the series. The guy, Bodie, was an asshole disguised as a "nice guy." You know those kind of guys who bitch about being friend-zoned because they are just so nice?! yeah, right.

So Bodie has had a crush on Cassidy since they were teens, but her father told him that she was too young for a serious relationship and he should back off. Bodie takes this to mean that he is never to see her again and that somehow this means he made a promise to her dad that he would never break. Um... okay.... I read what the father said and it was pretty obvious he said that Bodie should just wait a couple of years. But, whatevs... Bodie decided this means he gets to be Mr. Sulky forever because her dad thinks he isn't good enough for her, so his love will always be unrequited.

Cassidy decides to ask her dad about this, since she just found out 12 years later, and the father didn't even remember saying that to Bodie. *eye rolls... so many eye rolls* Yup, he had only meant that they were too young at the time. Duh.

Cassidy is then angry that Bodie cared more about her father's little comment than her. But, don't worry, Bodie is also angry that she, a cop, wasn't giving him details on an active police investigation. You know, which is illegal and could lead to her losing her job. What a bitch!

This guy is such a prick! He constantly gives her shit about not disclosing police investigation details and purposely excludes her from things so that she can "get a taste for how it feels to be left out." Really, dude? This IS the girl you supposedly loved all of your life, right? Funny way of showing it.

Later in the book, when she decides she isn't a good girlfriend unless she lets him in on her police duties, he then freaks out on her because she DID tell him what was going on. He was pissed off that she didn't seem to have enough feelings about what the police investigation meant to him. He almost breaks up with her over it. And, I'm like, "Dude, you are the biggest douche in history. You are such a big douche that only Costco can carry your brand."

Don't worry too much though because Cassidy has to be the weakest pussy to ever become a cop. She never stands up for herself, is willing to jeopardize her job and a police investigation for her boyfriend, and has "her body betraying her" happen constantly. Ugh! These two deserve each other.

The best part of this book is the town of Bootleg Springs. They are quirky and fun. The next book's couple has a lot more promise than these two losers had, so I'm reading on.

All good!

I am absolutely LOVING my revisit to Bootleg Springs. This one definitely took me on an emotional journey, but it was worth the highs and lows for that ending.

I am definitely going to move on to re-read/listening to June Bugs story and I CAN'T WAIT!

**********

I'm feeling mushy and gushy again

Oh my lordy, I LOVED Moonshine Kiss. My eyes are blurry and my back is breaking after reading for four hours straight. I haven't had an intense reading frenzy like that in yonky donks but I just couldn't stop. There's something about knowing, or thinking you know, the characters before you even start. Within a few pages, I knew what had scared Bowie off from the love of his life. It was just lucky theirs was "true love" and nobody else would do in the eight years it took for them to come together.

Seriously, this series is magic and Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley definitely have a distinctive voice and I will be purchasing more of their previously published books. For starters, they're bloody funny, but while funny, they also manage to suck the emotions out of the characters too. There were a few times I was sniffling and taking deep breaths to control the tears. I feel like I know these characters and I, like the town of Bootleg Springs, need to see Bowie and Cassidy find their happy ever after together.

The intrigue in this instalment takes a tricky turn when Cassidy's job is on the line because of her connection to the Bodine's. As a small-town deputy, she has to remember her badge while also remembering that she's one of them. How do you draw the line? Does the job come first? When family and friends are involved in an enquiry, should you share new info? Hmmm...even I was a little bamboozled as to where the line should be drawn. I would hope our officers of the law have an inbuilt detector that beeps when you're getting too close to the line.

I seriously had mushy, gushy feelings in this one. When Bowie and Cassidy finally connect, my heart was pumping and there was a big goofy grin on my face. Bowie and his words were MAGIC!! I found myself wanting to highlight some of his words and hint at hubby that he could use a bit of magic to get on my good side. Don't tell hubby, but I guess this would be the negative of marrying young...with maturity comes magic words. Hubby is great now, but I was lucky to get more than I love you, I want you...lets hit the sack, back in the olden days.

So far, the book that I read in Bootleg Springs series are lukewarm feeling. Moonshine Kiss is also the same. I do like the humor at the beginning of the book, the banter and the push and pull between Cassidy and Bowie.
Then about 40% into the book, I got bored. Cause there is no plot or twist/ drama aside of the missing girl added to the mix. The sex scenes do not help either. It was lukewarm and standard. Not explosive.

I want more. More spark, more drama/ twist. I know this is small town romance, but listening to the bromance talk and town gossip, can be weary.

Overall, OK read. Can be better.

Ah, now THIS is what I love about the Bootleg Springs series - the town is full of fun, quirky characters but I never feel like it takes precedence over the main romance. In this third installment, Bowie Bodine, one of the infamous Bodines in Bootleg Springs, and Cassidy Tucker, a deputy with the local Sheriff’s Department (and who also happens to be Sheriff Tucker’s daughter) finally explore their long-standing feelings for each other.

The story is a classic best friend’s brother/sister’s best friend trope with a heaping helping of UST that’s been teased throughout the earlier books. It does work as a standalone, but I’m a huge fan of the first book and I think it’s worth going back and reading before this one. It establishes the overarching storyline, which is the mystery of what happened to Callie Kendall, and is just a ball to read. Anyhoodle, I enjoyed Bow and Cassidy’s Firsts, their chemistry is strong, and when the focus is on them and the mystery, the story is strongest.

The main conflict is built throughout the story and is character-driven, but I was wanting just a bit more to set it off. It’s so close, but the emotional resolution wasn’t as strong as it could have been. I will say though, I read it very quickly, very eagerly and overall, I was happy when I closed my kindle. the Callie mystery has some movement that answers some questions, and left me curious to see how it will all resolve itself and that’s exactly what I wanted. So far books one and three are my faves, so if you like funny, small town romances with a dash of mystery for spice, I think you’ll enjoy this.

While I enjoyed parts of it, mostly it didn't work for me. I just did not like Bowie in the slightest. I get grumpy when men think their girlfriends' careers aren't important.

I am obsessed with any book or movie set in a quirky small town, I just love them so much. I love the town Bootleg Springs. This book was another good addition. I am really excited for the next book, June's book, she seems really interesting.

But side note - I am not a fan of how this book has a murder mystery that spans the entire six book series. I've read three books already and I'm no closer to finding out whodunnit and I have to read three more books before I will know! Knowing me it will take several months to finish the series and find out, I want to know now! Not several months from now lol!

⭐⭐💫
2½ stars.

➕ What I liked :

Some little parts of the plot were somewhat interesting.

Some of the side characters were kind of interesting.

A experienced heroine…. That is not “frozen” .

Friends to lovers romance.

Second chance romance.

➖ What I disliked:

Verbose.

Dragged.

It was rather noticeable that the book was written by two authors…. Some parts were kind of disjointed and jumbled in different ways.

The romantic build-up and chemistry was lacking and lackluster…. It lacked spark and depth among other things.

Some of the miscommunication and misunderstandings were just too OTT and unrealistic.

How the main characters treated each other… in some ways disrespected each other and were thoughtless/unsympathetic and insensitive with emotionally difficult things and situations… but also about other stuff…. And how the hero did not really respect that the heroine was a cop and that she should just spill the beans about the investigation because they were friends etc.

The heroines father and how he meddled… and interfered with the main characters relationship and everything with that… they were both over 18 so both were adults and it was not his place to do what he did.

Problematic ways of talking/joking about mental health and abortion.

Kind of weird subtle undertone/connotation (Internalized by the hero about his worth/himself etc. but also somewhat subtly in general here and there.)…that the hero not feeling good enough even-though he was a vice principal and had a higher education … like he would have been even less worthy if he not had that job or education … and were “just” lets say a mechanic or sales clerk or factory worker etc.
Just seemed a little bit elitist.

The heroes almost hero worship of the heroines father… combined with heroes daddy issues… just made for a weird mix for the character.

It was great that the heroine was not “frozen” and lived her life as the single woman she was and did not pine for the hero…. Both main characters dated others and had hookups with others etc.
But then the heroine talks about how much she loves and wants the hero and never really stopped loving him and wanting him…. So kind of contradicting …. same with the hero.

The reasons for the main characters not being honest about their feelings and not honest with each other or acting on those feelings over the years is kind of weak/lame.
The hero also had No reason to feel that he was not good enough … he was a friend of the family and friend to the heroine and even celebrated Thanksgiving etc. with the heroines family… that does not happen with someone that is not seen as good enough….
The hero was even told by the heroines father that he wanted him to date his daughter that he was a good man etc.
Not that a adult man should need/want the blessing from a woman's father anyway that is just weird and that should be between the woman and the man … otherwise it is just patriarchal.

The main characters were a little too formulaic in many different ways … but also mediocre/unremarkable.

Lackluster sex scenes.

Bowie Bodine and Cassidy just belong together. He always had a thing for her but stayed away because of her father. (He just sounded a little needy)

Cassidy Ann Tucker has loved Bowie Bodine since she was in kindergarten. Bowie is the older brother of her best friend Scarlett, and they have always been a part of each others’ lives. When Cas was 19-years-old she thought she saw in Bowie the same feelings she had for him, and she got her hopes up. Then he dashed those hopes when he told her to her face that he thought of her as a little sister. Ever since she has been looking for someone to love and be loved by in the same way her parents love each other. Bowie has wanted Cass since she was 16-years-old and it was only the thought of being a creepy older guy that stopped him acting on those feelings. Just as he starts to cave and to consider telling her how he feels, he decides that he isn’t good enough for her and tells her that he doesn’t think of her that way. By breaking Cass’ heart, he breaks his own. In the 8 years since the day he destroyed the idea of them as a couple, he’s never found anyone that can live up to Cass. Cass is a deputy sheriff and her father is the sheriff of Bootleg Springs, a rather different undertaking to most small towns, as it has some very unusual town ordinances on the books, some of which were covered in the previous two books.

“I spent most of my life thinkin’ I’d marry him,” I confessed as she turned. (Her)

Cassidy,
You’ve had my heart for longer than you know. Say yes. Yours always, Bowie😫😍😍😍 (Him)

bootleg springs is growing on me y’all.

I liked this one and even though both Cass and Bowie are really frustrating at times, I enjoyed the book.

Listen, the reason they were apart mmm okay, but EIGHT YEARS?!?! SIR YOU’RE THIRTY NOW. The whole “you need to tell me things” but then when she actually opens up he quickly backs out and says no thanks?? shitty behavior. I understood the dilemma Cass had, I just think the book dragged a lot. I lost track of the problem at times lmao.

The best part and the part that got the .5 stars is the town. These people... I had the best time in this book. The girls night out??? HILARIOUS. The secret meetings?? AMAZING. I truly love how this town has come to life through the books.

I’m so damn excited for the next book lol. Juney?? Falling in love?? That’s gonna be a sight. And the way they kept bringing up the football player’s name, I just knew he was coming soon to the town. That’s gonna be interesting.

Childhood friends to lovers romances are always a favorite for me, so I couldn't wait to read Bowie and Cassidy's story. I loved getting a glimpse of their history in the beginning chapters and insight into why these two still weren't together (despite being obviously in love with each other). The pining and sexual tension in the beginning was so good and my heart was aching for them. Unfortunately, things shifted very awkwardly around the midpoint (seriously, a bat!?) and I felt like all that build up was wasted. The reasoning behind all the years of angst was also a bit anticlimactic, though I understand why it was so earth shattering to Bowie. The pacing of the book really slowed down in the second half and there really wasn't much going on besides the revelations about the Bodine family and the Kendall case. The epilogue was very cute though and I'm curious to see how Junie's story unfolds.

Audiobook Review
Overall 4 stars
Performance 4.5 stars
Story 3 stars

The narration by Stephen Dexter and Natalie Duke was great and they voiced all of the characters so well. I had no problem distinguishing between characters and they were able to convey so much emotion in their performances.

This is third in a series and some of the events deliberately build up over time. Also, the relationship dynamics are fully explored in previous volumes. So I would recommend reading in order except that I skipped the second in the series without much loss or any hiccups. So there's that. So read the first at any rate, but feel free to skip the second.

This is the best of the series so far. I absolutely loved the two protagonists and was heartened to find that the whole barrier to them being together a) didn't last so long I got frustrated and b) there was lots of reasonable story/conflict to work out after it was removed. I particularly liked that Cass points out the central betrayal by Bowie wasn't just the cause of the freeze out but its length and his method over the years. So it felt like the relationship had the weight of those years and neither one was being unreasonable in hanging on to past hurts. Which is a trickier line to walk than I realized until just now. I mean, you have to feel the weight of both their love that finally gets expression but also their hurt that needs time and effort to work out. Well done.

Add that this was as funny and heart-melting as the first and you have a real winner. I had enough periodic frustration around the investigation and Cass turning stupid with regard to the guy running the show that I can't go higher than four stars. I mean, she's clever and can come at barriers sideways so having her go all malleable and stupid in just that one area felt weak and abnormal. And frustrating. But it's a solid four stars, I think, given how solid the rest of the story felt.

A note about Steamy: There are two explicit sex scenes putting his in the middle of my steam tolerance. They're a bit ridiculous, really, and I kind of felt like I'd dropped into a different kind of story, but whatever.

I can't do it to myself anymore!!!

12/11/2018 long before the final book will be published.
I have a theorie what happend to the missed girl.
One of the Bodine brothers, Gibson, found her years ago, nurced her to health and they have a couple of kids already. Or... there could be an amnesia. Or.... she could have changed her identity. But I like my 1st idea.

Will try the next book. I sincerely hope June is not a virgin! But if my 'brilliant' idea of revealing of a mystery is not true, I still hope they won't pair June with Gibson the womanizer. He is one, isn't he? 🤔

3.5 stars - this would’ve been a 5 Star read - the couple was awesome and it had great humor, but the drawn out stupid drama really ruined much of it for me. I couldn’t even follow what the actual problem was after it was drawn out so far. The family expecting a cop to share details about the investigation was just ridiculous and stupid - and then when she does, they’re mad because they don’t like her theories?!?!? Not sure if I’m gonna read more in the series but I’d really like to know how the darn Callie storyline get resolved.

Three words: Worth. The. Wait.

I've been waiting for Bowie and Cassidy since Book 1 and this did not disappoint. The whole combination of friends-to-lovers with best friend's big brother just works for me. These two are super well matched and there's plenty of hilarity and Bootleg Justice to go around.

Can't wait for June's book!

Bowie has gotten under Cassidy’s skin and has taken roots in her heart. Since she was a little girl, she knew deep in her soul, that some day she would end up being with him. Unfortunately Cassidy has had to suck it up and move on because he admitted that she was only a sister to him. Her world is shattered and even if his shadow follows her everywhere she tries to move on. Despite this tangled situation nothing can really prepare the reader for this exciting and intense journey of a once in a lifetime commitment between two characters that needed to mature over the years in order to take the reins of this sluggish circumstance and overturn the order of things. So Bowie initially seemed a distant character, someone standing behind the scenes. On the contrary as the story developed he stands out among the crowd ready to fight for his long time secret love. Cassidy on the other hand, remains the same passionate girl with her head held up high thus in the face of adversities that she must deal with in the story. It turns out that they are indeed the perfect couple with an audience rooting for them. I loved this book very much and I guarantee that it will steal the reader’s heart.

Bootleg Springs is my favorite place to be! I adore the Bodine family and all the craziness that the family and their town brings. Moonshine Kiss is by far my absolute favorite of the series! With every single book in the series, the story gets more intriguing and we get closer to finding out what happened to Callie Kendall and what roll the Bodine family really played in it, if any (I have a feeling I figured it out…)

Moonshine Kiss is truly a second chance romance at its finest. Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley tell the story of Bowie Bodine and Cassidy Tucker’s relationship (or lack thereof) with such emotion, you feel like you yourself are in their shoes. The feeling of being let down by that one special person, but yet not really ever being able to let them go for good. The give and take, the push and pull, the realization that you were truly meant to be with a TON of ups and downs...whew! What an amazing love story it was!

The friends who become family and the town that takes care of their own makes makes Bootleg Springs a place you’re going to want to visit over and over again. I know I do and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Bootleg Springs is the most fun I've had reading in a long time. I absolutely love to read, but scouring these books for clues on the disappearance of Callie Kendall, spinning theories, and discussing those theories with fellow Lucy and Claire fans takes these books to a new level! Top that off with a new and engaging romance in each book and recurring characters you can't help but love and you've got Bootleg Springs!

Moonshine Kiss is book three in this series, and it is amazing! I couldn't love Bowie and Cassidy more! Bowie is book boyfriend perfection. Even when he doesn’t think he can have Cassidy, he is there as a friend and protector. He is the perfect combination of oh so sweet and protective. He is a good guy through and through. I love that he would do anything for Cassidy, and while his reasons for staying away may be misguided, he always tries to put her first.

Cassidy is amazing. She is strong and independent, but given her past experiences with Bowie, she tries hard to protect her heart. She is the ice to her best friend Scarlett’s fire, and as an officer of the law she always tries to do what is right. However, when her loyalties are questioned, she is forced to reevaluate those gray areas in life.

Bowie and Cassidy both have a lot going on in their lives, but I loved watching them figure out how to support one another. They fit together like two perfect puzzle pieces, and while they have always loved each other, it was fun to watch them figure out how to embrace that love. Their chemistry was off the charts, and I loved that Bowie knew what he wanted and refused to back down. He never pushed Cassidy beyond what she was comfortable giving, but he consistently nudged her to embrace what she wanted while working hard to prove he wouldn’t let her down.

I love that each of these books lets us check in with the characters and relationships from previous books as their lives are so connected. I also love guessing who will be next and who they will end up with. I went through all the emotions with this group yet again in Moonshine Kiss. I laughed so many times, I was on the edge of my seat in anticipation when new evidence was revealed, I was disappointed when things went wrong, and I celebrated when things worked out. I love this group, and I can’t wait for the rest of the series to be released!

It's time to return to Bootleg Springs and watch another Bodine sibling fall hard. I love this series. It has been amazing right from the start. Lucy Score and Claire Kingsley have hit a home run. This series is so well written that you really want to go live in Bootleg Springs. That is the hallmark of both these author's. They craft stories that just grab you from the first page and leave you wanting the next book as soon as you finish the one you are reading. I loved Bowie and Cassidy's story. It is a story of young love, second chances and going after what you want from life. These two are stubborn characters and there were several times when I just wanted to slap both of them. That said, they had a lot of history and baggage to overcome from the past and some interference in the present. The secondary characters in this series are some of the best that I have read and add humor and authenticity to the town and its story. I can't wait to see what these two authors have in store for June Tucker and the remaining two Bodine boys. I'm confident that their stories will be worth the wait.

If you are looking for a romantic comedy, set in a fantastic small town with plenty of great characters, witty dialogue, humor and suspense, I highly recommend this series.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy provided to me by the author.

Sadly this book kind of bored me. So we have the heroine who had a crush on hero, he thought he wasn't good enough so for eight years they have gone on. The heroine dates, the hero dates and he seethes seeing her with other people. I liked that the heroine didn't pine for hero. Then, viola misunderstanding is cleared and we find out heroine's dad didn't think hero wasn't good enough for her daughter and suddenly the hero is all in with talk about marriage etc. Thankfully the heroine isn't willing to flip so easily and suddenly get with his programme. Sadly, I didn't find this one very engaging.

I'm officially hooked on this series!

The pacing of Bowie and Cassidy's romance was much better than in Whiskey Chaser, the last book Lucy Score wrote for this series. The obstacle keeping them apart in the first half of the book led to some amazing sexual tension, but also didn't drag on for too long, and I really enjoyed the reasoning for Bowie's reluctance to admit his feelings for Cassidy in the past. I adored how he pursued Cassidy. He was so sweet and their chemistry and connection really worked for me, especially in the steamy scenes.

The mystery and drama was perfectly balanced with the romance, though I would say the mystery element in this installation was much more prominent than in the second book. The developments in the latter half have definitely got me guessing what happened to Callie Kendall?

The conflict that involved Cassidy's job being threatened by her and Bowie's relationship could have got really annoying, but it managed to work really well. The involvement of the townsfolk in protecting Cassidy and the Bodines (first from the media storm and then from the detective) was a little silly, but just charming and ridiculous enough to work. I'm really intrigued by the mystery plot and June's character, so I'm super excited to get started on book 4!

oh, yeah. i love it when two people couldn’t be together because of miscommunication (i do not).

bowie and cass had been an item since the past two books, so it was a real slow burn and i loved it — those glances, shoulders touching, knees rubbing, slow dancing — yess. and then, we finally understood why bowie wouldn’t act and it was the lamest reason ever. i just don’t like it when slow burn is a product of miscommunication or misunderstanding. 😩

despite that, the book was still hilarious. antics of the characters were amazing. and personally, i liked cass. she is an independent woman whose only flaw is loyalty to her job as a cop. her being lonesome into opening up to bowie and scarlett was my favorite development in this sequel.

Moonshine Kiss had me feeling all kinds of emotion; it was fast paced, filled with surprises at every turn, and most of all a romance years in the making. No doubt about it, Moonshine Kiss is my favorite book to date in the Bootleg Springs series.

Bowie Bodine and Cassidy Tucker have been circling around each other for years, but circumstances kept them apart. They’ve watched each other date other people all the while longing to be with one another. As the investigation into the cold case disappearance of Callie Kendall ramps up, Bowie and Cassidy not only find themselves at odds with one another, but also unable to deny their feelings. There’s a thin line between love and hate and these two can’t help but cross it even when doing so can change their future.

I’m just going to say it these two are so hot for one another and watching them try and deny it while secretly stewing inside made me sad for them. With the Bodine family still under suspicion from the visiting state police Detective Connelly in town to work on the cold case that was reopened after the missing girls sweater was found he finds ways to make Deputy Cassidy Tucker’s life miserable for her association with the family which puts a strain on not only her friendship with Scarlett Bodine, but her relationship with Bowie. Cassidy and Bowie really do spend a good part of this book trying to avoid one another, then hiding their secret relationship, and then trying to figure out how to be a partner in a relationship but I applaud them for speaking their mind when things get rough or they are upset and while they still had problems they did their best to give each other space to work them out.

Both their families were front and center in this book; giving advice, interrupting “moments,” being sneaky, and also supporting these two as they try to figure out how to work. I really loved seeing Bowie and his half brother Jonah bonding and the special moments between Cassidy and her parents.

This story was jam packed with action, sweet and sexy couple moments, and a good deal of conflict, but it was all warranted and necessary to move the story forward.

A well deserved love story between two people who have waited years for it to be THEIR time, I loved Moonshine Kiss!
