“Welcome to Ink & Quill, Fallon.” Teddy leans back in his chair and grins at me. “This feels like the start of a beautiful friendship.”
Fallon wasn’t expecting to land a job at the best publishing house in the city. But Teddy, golden-eyed omega and CEO of Ink & Quill, is strangely insistent that he needs her.
And Fallon really needs this job. Any job. More than Teddy could possibly know.
But when she walks through the doors of Ink & Quill, she’s not expecting them. The Quill pack are charming, protective as hell, and oddly interested in her. Not to mention, they all smell delicious.
Teddy, Fox, Wilder, Zeke and Rowan are almost too tempting to resist. And as Fallon gets to know them, she begins to wish that things could be different.
Because there’s just one problem.
Fallon already has a pack. A pack who are Ink & Quill’s biggest competitors.
And she’s only staying until she can earn enough money to run as far away from them as possible.
MMMFMM Male and female omega Scent matching Traumatized FMC Beta in the pack Feral alpha Rutting Nesting trauma Hurt/ comfort The Light in Us contains themes that may be upsetting, including financial, emotional and physical domestic abuse.
Evelyn Flood is an Amazon bestselling author of more than fifteen romance books.
She writes in various sub-genres including contemporary romance, fantasy romance and why choose, but you'll always find a main course of angst and a side dish of uncontrollable sobbing in every book she writes.
She's based in South Wales, where she spends most of her time hopping between coffee shops with her laptop in hand and buying a ridiculous amount of notebooks to write all of her ideas down.

This definitely had some interesting elements to it and one could not possibly do anything, but feel for Fallon as she is treated rather poorly. Dealing with severe emotional trauma is rather challenging and coming out of an abusive relationship even more so. Giving yourself time to heal and trust yourself again takes time and effort, hence why I did struggle with this story. I think it would have been better, if the main heroine was given time to heal and I did not see that taking place here.
Now, the Quill pack all seemed genuine and kind, but I did not feel like the FMC connected with the entire pack. For me at least, the real connection was between her and Teddy from the start, the rest were just a bit cast on the side. I would have preferred more character development and of course, Fallon's previous pack.. I think a bit of retribution would have sufficed here.
Overall, this is a decent story and I hope other readers enjoy it.
Solid OMV. A little insta-lovey while not being a fast burn, so it didn't bother as much as most. I think I was in the mood for that today.
These guys are completely devoted to her, though a few have some hangups of their own she'll help them work through.
I was worried because another review said this focused more on the pack and the male omega, but I didn't find that to be the case. I think it may have felt like that because the male omega has many more chapters than the other MMCs, but he's completely focused on the FMC and on getting her in his pack and happy with his alphas, his beta, and himself. He was very exuberant, but I didn't feel like the FMC was any less important to the pack, which is something I've admittedly become a little sensitive about since I started reading why choose.
My main complaint is that the abuse and recovery aspect wasn't handled as well as I'd hoped. The story had to speed through the highlights of her frog in the pot of water era, so it was jarring when we got to the present time where she's in such a horrible relationship with these guys who are controlling every aspect of her life.
And then she does zero work to process any of that. She gets into a relationship with these guys who are her scent matches with very few lingering effects of seven years of abuse from her former pack. She suddenly has all of the backbone she had been missing in those years, even enough to yell at and stand up to them multiple times.
It was a little unrealistic for me, but I was enjoying the romance so much that I pushed those thoughts aside in order to keep enjoying the story.
There were some other errors in continuity and stuff like that, but they were easily forgotten by the time I finished the book, which tells me I just enjoyed the story enough for them to not matter.
I'm gonna give this book 2.5 stars because although the story was okay, there were factors within that I found lacking.
To start off, I thought that all the pack members were great characters but I think there was missed opportunity to develop a more thorough relationship between them and Fallon. She had the most interaction with Teddy and Fox, and a bit with Wilder and Zeke, with the least with Rowan. Nearly every interaction she had with Rowan there were the other pack members involved, it made him as the beta seem like an afterthought in the whole relationship. Even then, I didn't think that there was really a thoroughly developed relationship between Fallon and the pack apart from her and Teddy.
That kinda brings me to Fallon herself... she was quite literally a doormat for majority of the novel. I know that you can claim that a good portion of it was caused by the mental and emotional abuse she suffered from for years (valid), but it was shown quite clearly within the first few chapters that she very much was a doormat even before her grief and abuse. Like it was really hard to try to get behind a character that was constantly in a state of "I know I hate this but I'm just gonna let it be" the entire time. She consistently had a very flat personality.
During the novel I found that there was just such a lack of a developed connection between Fallon and the pack. Like her heat was horrendous is the segregation of pack members, it didn't feel like a whole unit... she had her Alphas and then there was the others. Every sexual encounter had was separated one on one and still had no connection, it all felt very segmented.
At the end there was this really weird semi-redemption arc supposedly for Shaun, and I just found that so weird... like I'm not quite sure why that was in there are all. It very much seemed like it was trying to explain the reason behind the abuse toward her, but straddle the line of making it more confusing. Also considering that Shaun acted just as equally sadistic towards Fallon, like when her clothes were ruined and he forced her to watch Ellis do it. It just honestly made no sense that a redemption arc, or even just a moment to make you question whether he was valid since he had a rough childhood, was included at all.
For those reason I had to give it the 2.5 stars, it wasn't the worst but over all I can't just give it a bunch of stars because I liked the personalities of the Pack and the general idea behind the plot.

The storyline was good, had a lot of potential, but just fell kinda flat for me. I don’t think there was enough relationship development for me between Fallon and the pack members. Especially with Teddy, Rowan and Fallon. The heat scene seemed really rushed and I didn’t love the dynamic of it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ There’s no bonding mark, no bite. Just a perfect, empty space begging for my teeth to gently grip, to mark, to brand her as mine. She’s unclaimed. And she’s exactly what I need.
This is Evelyn’s best one yet! It’s not an easy read, but the hurt/comfort is top-notch.
Fallon’s life, from being in an abusive pack, to finding HER pack, runs from the absolute lowest of lows to the highest of highs. That HEA was perfect. I recommend reviewing the TW due to the on-page portrayal of an abusive relationship.
HER pack was perfect. All-in from the drop. Healing her. Supporting her. Loving her. Again, perfection. Plus two Omegas (M&F), a sexy beta, and scent matches and chosen mates. Perfection.
This is a medium burn and spicy why choose OV romance with an established MM throuple in the pack.
A complete standalone, Fallon and her men get their HEA in the end.
Thank you so much for an ARC copy. I took a while to read this because I wanted to make sure I was in the right mindset for this book. I enjoyed the beginning of the book and how she met her scent match pack. I'm sad to say that I didn't really enjoy this as much as I thought I would. Fallon is an emotionally abused omega who feels like shes trapped in life. I'm glad that she got out eventually. This was more about her journey in finding the right ones. However, the insta love and surface level characters were a bit disappointing. I wish we got more time with her new pack. I sometimes got confused with the MMCs because they seemed very similar. The lack of drama with her old pack was a bit of a let down. Overall, a decent read.
Don't judge a book by its cover but a beautiful title and cover certainly helps.
This was an omegaverse RH but unique in the established relationships of the pack prior to meeting Fallon, the heroine. I'm used to RHs where the heroine becomes the center of the pack but this wasn't the case. I can imagine a lot of drama could have been initiated from that, understandably, or at least some hurt or jealousy but that wasn't the case. I really appreciated how that was all handled.
I loved all the characters and the overall story. If this was a SA, it would have been nicer if there was an epilogue, but it ended on a good note with the primary problem resolved. It felt open-ended for another book and I hope that's the case.
2.5⭐ - This was my first omegaverse book so I literally have no standard or comparison. I think this was good for someone like me who is completely new to omegaverse; I thought it was easy to follow the alpha/beta/omega dynamic and all the little details that show up in this type of world.
That being said, I didn't particularly love this. Again I am not sure if this is 'normal' but the word mate was used over 200 times...it was noticeable and bothered me a lot. Nothing felt fully fleshed out so I felt like I never really connected with any characters or what they were going through.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an eARC. This review contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
This was very sweet and I loved seeing th FMC become herself again. If I had any complaints, it would be that the FMC bounced back from 7 years of abuse a little too quickly to be believed and although I liked this one more than most, I'm still not a huge fan of packs with two omegas.
What an amazing book with an original topic! It talked about manipulation, and psychological abuse with a fresh point of view. It described perfectly how you could fall in an abusive relationship without noticing it and then being alone. I really love the story revolving around the book, it was sweet and I felt very emotional about it. I warmly recommend it!
Evelyn has been a new author to me in the past few months and I absolutely adore her writing 🥰 I have no words to describe how much I loved this book especially the strong found family element😭
This book follows Fallon and in the early chapters we follow her on her move to college. Her parents drop her off and she meets a the Smith pack, and upon meeting this pack my spidey senses were just tingling.. Tragedy strikes and Fallon loses both of her parents in a car accident and poor Fallon just crumbles, my heart absolutely broke in pieces for her, and as a result of this she allows the smith pack to take over everything, which we will later see has consequences.
Fast forward seven years later Fallon is still with the Smith pack but their treatment of her is just down right awful. I do like how the author highlighted that just because the abuse isn’t physical doesn’t mean that it’s not abuse. The pack emotional abuse Fallon, and control every aspect of her life.
One day when Fallon goes to get coffee she meets Teddy who is an omega of the Quill pack. Teddy instantly feels a connection with Fallon and it just so happens that his assistant is leaving so he offers Fallon the job. When Teddy returns to his back he is ambushed by 3 of his alphas because Fallons scent still lingers on him and long story short Fallon turns out to be the scent matched to these three alphas.
These 3 alphas immediately become obsessed with Fallon before even meeting her, I swear I swooned so hard😮💨 and when Fallon meets the rest of the pack which includes a beta named Rowan he also has it bad for the omega.
The Quill pack (which consists of Alphas - Fox, Zeke and Wilder, Beta - Rowan and Omega - Teddy) show Fallon how an omega is supposed be treated. Of course Fallon is hesitant at first and of course she looks for the catch because that’s all she’s ever know, but this pack allows her to heal which honestly warms my heart😭
Overall, I enjoyed this book! The only thing I would have loved is maybe a little epilogue in the future to see more of the guys but other than that the pacing, plot and spice of the book was just perfect.
Thank you so much to the author who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭
Unfortunate circumstances left Fallon with a pack who take advantage of her and treat her nothing like how an omega should be treated. A chance encounter leads her to the pack she’s meant for, but will she have the courage to take back control over her life?
I don’t usually love OV but I do love anything by Evelyn Flood. This book was a really good, short read. It wasn’t life changing like the Crows, but it was still a feel good read that made me both laugh and cry at times. Teddy had such Golden Retriever energy, Ro was adorably sweet, and all three alphas were both growly and protective as well as gentle and loving.
As always I’ll keep waiting for the next new release from one of the best RH authors there is!
To start this, I loved the authors most recent book The Stars Above the Never Sea. I noticed that she had a few different books prior to that so I chose this one. There are... good and bad things about this one.
The bad... Male omegas are not new for me. The personality of Teddy I found to be on par with another male omega that I loved but one of the characteristics though did bug me. Slick is produced from their ass but in this one it seems that it's not. It was mentioned during a scene between our male and female omega that when she went to put him in her mouth that he said he produces a lot of slick. and I was like okay so his butt gets all wet. Got it. Nope. The way it's described is from the penis. Which for me personally was odd.
Typos and noticeable grammar errors. It's fairly plentiful and the book itself needs a good edit. In the year since this was released when compared to Stars Above the Never Sea its writing is lacking in that area. The story itself has a lot of promise and with editing and getting some alpha and beta feedback this could be fantastic.
Fallon. She has gone through years of different abuse... She acts as I feel is appropriate at first. She's blindsided, didn't see it coming. This happens commonly in abusive relationships. They slowly take away things and slowly make it to where you are alone and have no one. But 7 years of abuse and she easily went into the arms of her mates. She started sleeping with them and having sex with them. To me even being scent-matched and mates.... shouldn't override her trauma. She's had little to no touch for 7 years, and the touch that she did have was manipulative. We see at first how she reacts with flinching, not wanting to give out information and other things but then she kind of does a 180 to fast for my liking. This is also without a heat.
The heat... The heat wasn't as exciting as it could be. It just kind of existed.
The letter.... The letter at the end was unnecessary. It's just trying to validate what isn't able to be done. Nothing that was done to her was okay, and he's continuing being an abuser by trying to make it seem like he can still say sorry and the like. They didn't want redemption, and the Quill pack wasn't asking for it either. Fallon was fine with the results of what happened for their punishment.
The indifferent... Pack dynamic. This is definitely a MMFMM style story. 3 pack members being Teddy the male omega, Fox the pack alpha, and Rowan the beta definitely are a trio who have sexual moments together. Zeke and Wilder do not but help in some times during heats in some ways. This is totally fine. I didn't mind the dynamic, but it seems other reviews point it out as a negative.
The good. The story has potential, and I enjoyed the Quill pack. I like the differences between everyone and that they do love each other even when they aren't all sexually intimate. Now they have an omega who is their scent-match and everyone has a sexual partner within their dynamic. I like that they have a difference between the home and work dynamics also.
The characters. I felt most were flushed out pretty well, but I did have some moments where I had to keep flipping back to double check who's chapter it was. I do love that there is a male omega as I don't come across them to often and I always hold out hope that I'll have a new favorite.
The world. I like that it's a publishing world and it's basically pack rivalry that was never expected. She had no clue who her pack really was in reality or how they got all the funds for everything but then she meets the Quill Pack and everything comes to light. It did make a nice little aspect of the story and I enjoyed how that played out.
As this is a published book and it is in need of edits from an editor I did remove stars off of it. While I found the story enjoyable it could be better. It's not the best omegaverse I've read and the author does have another book that I've rated a 5 star read, this could be improved upon. Author's do re-releases and I hope this is something that the author comes back to as it's listed as book #1 for a continuation but first goes back and fixes, edits, and other things to make the story better. Will I come back to read this one? Not in it's current state. But if you're looking for a story that you can just read, enjoy and not having to think and pick a part because it's still got a good story to it then I can recommend the story.
I loved this book - the first 20% hurt so bad, and it was difficult to read. Evelyn quickly pulled me into the story, and I fell in love with the main FMC.
I think the book needed an extra 100 pages at the end. The ending felt very rushed compared to the first half of the book. I would love a second book with these characters.
I loved the dynamic between Teddy and the pack but it did seem like he was pushed to the side once Fallon was in the picture.
There was a weird part at the end with a letter written for the FMC. I honestly think we could have done without that, what did it even add to the story? It just baffled me and made me laugh. It would have made more sense if Rory had written it rather than Shaun as he seemed to be the nicer of the three?
There were also some parts that I wanted to see - did the omega author go to Ink and Quill like Fallon suggested? What happened to the authors that Wordsmith pushed away?
This was a quick read for me, though. I couldn't put it down, and I read it in the space of a few hours. I'll definitely be reading more by Evelyn

I went into this book after seeing a TikTok. That’s it. One simple TikTok of dialogue. I wanted so much for this to be one of those amazing reads that just stick with you and you tell everyone about. Now while I did read this book over the course of a day, it left me wanting a lot more. I feel the story over all had a lot of potential. BUT for a book titled The light in us, there wasn’t a lot of discussion about that topic in the book for its length. The title is supposed to be relevant to the story but this almost felt like it was the back burner to the story. It definitely needed more relationship development.
Or who knows maybe it’s an absolute 5⭐️ read and the best book in the entire universe and I just have no clue what I’m saying.

This is by far the best book from Evelyn and quite possibly one of the best hurt/comfort reads I have read in a long time. The characters were vibrant, funny, swoon worthy, and just the perfect pact for the hurt omega. I loved that there were two omegas (one male/one female) in the pack! I just can’t say enough about how well the hurt/comfort trope was done in this book. I thought that this might be a love triangle situation when the blurb mentioned she was already part of a pack, but it is far from that.
I wish there was more of this story! I would love more background on the pack and their families and their personal backstories. I would also love to see a glimpse into their future!
If you are a fan of the sweet omegaverse, you will absolutely LOVE this story!
This book is perfect if you are looking for angst outside the relationship and wonderful partners. Teddy is downright hilarious, yet he's so SO enamored with Fallon. His protective instincts kick in even though he's an Omega, not an Alpha. I loved every one of the fellas. They didn't push, and they made Fallon feel safe every step of the way. Filing this story in my top three of this year (2024), for sure!
This was a really enjoyable read with a lot of potential. It was addictive and very easy to get through. I was always wanting to know what happened next.
Unfortunately, I went in with the expectation that it would be centered around the FMC. I’m not sure if I had misaligned expectations but that wasn’t the case. We got a lot of her backstory and she got to heal but there wasn’t an intimate focus on her growing her bonds with pack members.
I really liked this why choose, omegaverse with mmmfmm. The already established pack was great--loved their connections, possessiveness, and found family dynamic. Having the added dynamic of scent matches and a male omega was also big hit for me. I adored the caretaking when Fallon joined them and how they helped her heal from all the emotional abuse she had been subjected to by her last pack. I definitely teared up a couple times cause damn girly went through it! But the HEA with her and her new perfect pack was worth it. I would have liked a bit more angst or bigger resolution with revenge/punishment with her shitty old pack but overall, definitely recommend.
I read this in like 4 hours. No shame. Laughed, kicked my feet, teared up, all the things! Only thing I want is more of the book! I wish I could have gotten more of the pack and their dynamics!
Also if you know me and you see this yes I’m going through an omegaverse phase leave me alone
Hm. I guess I wanted more? With 50 percent of the book still including her old pack and no real changes I just wish we had more bonding moments. Overall, it's pretty dead on for this genre and no complaints.
A delightful hurt/comfort OV revolving an fmc trying to free herself from the abusive pack she’s been in, and the scent matches she meets in her efforts to become free. I loved this book. I devoured this book. I cried like a baby. 🌶️.5/3, yes to ⚔️
Im fairly new to omegaverse. But i could not put this one down. I finished it in one day and i love it. I need a copy when i meet you, again, at RARE Londen next year❤️
I felt every emotion Fallon did. The writing was that good. I love the guys, they are so sweet❤️
