Scars and Stripes #3

Warrior's Walk

Rate this book
Fate only takes an instant to play her hand.

Rhett Marsh

When my leg shattered, I thought my whole world was shattered.

Riggs pieced both back together again, and then he disappeared.

I never expected to see him again on the other side of the world.

Navarro Riggs is a lot of things…

Devastatingly hot.

My savior.

A brave warrior.

But, my physical therapist? Yeah, I didn’t see that coming.

I’d consider it a gift from the universe, if only he wasn’t trying his damndest to stay far away from me.

Navarro Riggs

We met on the battlefield under a hail of bullets and blood.

Our bond was instant, forged in trauma. Unbreakable. Everlasting.

He wasn’t just my patient, he was mine.

I trust Rhett with my life, but can I trust him with my heart?

Warrior’s Walk is the third book in the Scars And Stripes Trilogy. This MM romance tells the story of trauma bonding, disability and mental health struggles, starting over after you’ve lost everything, and finding your inner warrior. Other tropes include age gap, found family, and possessiveness.

"i think about you more often than i should," i admit, surprising myself with my daring.
Rhett's eyes pop wide, and he checks to make sure his mama isn't listening before he whipsers, "i think about you constantly."

stop how freaking precious is that 🥺

I CANT BELIEVE THIS SERIES IS OVER ALREADY. it feels like i only was just swooning over west and brandt (book 1) yesterday 😭😭😭

all these books pack such a fierce amount of emotion and angst. i was tearing in up in the first few chapters 💔 raquel knows how to pull on your heart strings almost TOO good (but i love it).
what i appreciate a lot is that that most of the angst is outside the relationship for the most part. i enjoy when characters have their own separate struggles they are trying to overcome PLUS them also following in love along the way. the point of this book is not just the romance, it's much more than that, which raquel riley has done well showing for this whole series in general imo. i still really liked this book but i definitely liked the other 2 books more. especially book 1, seeing brandt and west in this thriving as a couple made my heart burst.

i've been wanting riggs's story from the first book and he did not disappoint. i loved how he always put rhett's recovery first even though he wanted to give into him so badly. 🥺 now possessiveness was labeled as a trope for this. therefore, i was excited AF because it’s one of my top tropes. however, i NEEDED more of that in this though 😭 from the both of them honestly.

the conflict towards the end felt a little off to me. it did feel kinda random and not necessary which took my rating down a little bit. but at least it wasn't a third act breakup 😂 so i wasn’t too bothered by it.

THE BITCHES WITH STITCHES ARE GETTING BOOKS 😭 raquel is keeping us FED.

i received this arc from raquel riley and this is my honest review.
____

my arc is here!!! yall already know i'm sat for anything raquel riley 🧎‍♀️

The slow burn was kicking my ass, but ultimately it was good.

“I’m in love with you. I know it for a fact. That might scare you, that might make you want to push me away, but you already know by now that I’ll just keep coming back. I’ll always come back to you, ’cause you’re mine.”

“I’m yours?”
“Hell yeah. I claimed you the night I fuckin’ met you. I snotted all over your shirt. You’ve been mine ever since.”

I really liked this, Rhett and Riggs get their well deserved happy ending. After so much suffering, blood and tears, they make the Black Mountains their home.

I spend all this book wanting to hug, protect, spoil Rhett… he seems so alone and enters all these established friendships, I feel he’s always an extra…even with Many… and he’s all alone, he misses his mama… and to add to that the cold feet he gets from Riggs… I want to wrap him in a blanket and keep him warm. Riggs makes a lot of assumptions, some of them very painful, he’s judge af with no apparent reason other than he’s own insecurities but eventually he manages to realize that Rhett is pure and innocent and just wants someone to love him!

The sex scenes were JFC hot, they fitted so well together, the dirty talk was spot on… How we got there was my struggle. I would love to get more day to day about his recovery, his work, and time spent with his mama.

this was Rhett to Riggs for most of the book😅

'Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up

One thing I will never get tired of is all the BALLS jokes, bless them! And I don't have enough words to describe the BITCHES. Talk about found family, truest of friends. Incredible support, love and people you truly understand, your struggles and victories. I SALUTE THEM! 🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶

I received a eArc from Raquel and this is my honest opinion.

PS: WE ARE GETTING BOOKS FOR ALL THE BITCHES!!!

Nijaka.

Warrior's Walk was another amazing addition to this trilogy. They're all such powerful stories that make me feel so much. This book wasn't any different. I laughed... a lot! The B*tches are hysterical, I can never get enough of their banter. Their love and support of each other is heartwarming. I'm excited for their stories. The found family love they gave Rhett gave me all the warm and fuzzy feels, Mandy is everything, I just love him so much and loved getting to know him more. I also cried a lot, but it was all so so good! I loved Riggs as soon as I met him in Proof of Life, and I was so happy he found his well-deserved HEA with Rhett, even though he tried to fight it. Great book, great series, highly recommend!

Again, this third book did not have the same impact on me like the first one did.
I struggled quite a bit with Rigg and I did not really get where he was coming from. He was judging Rhett on what exactly? His age? His past sex life? It was just not clear at all and I did not feel their connection throughout the book.
Also, there was no need for what happened to Rhett's mum. Just added angst that did not add much to the story in my opinion, except to add more pain to one of the MC's.
But overall, it was not a bad read and it was nice to see West and Brandt again.

No był. Mimo 300 stron wszystko wydawało mi się takie za szybkie, jakbym czytała nowelkę, a nie długą książkę.

This book was so good!

Rhett has a bad fall from a parachute and loses his brother in arms in the same breath. His leg is extremely broken and Riggs keeps him alive on the flight back to base. The trauma bonding and connection was instant.

When Riggs is back from deployment he slightly stalks Rhett’s progress and PT. When Rhett finally recognises him the connection is still there but Riggs refuses to act on it because he believes that Rhett is too much of a wild card.

The emotional journey that Rhett goes on is everything. The way he slowly heals and his progress made me so happy. He also loved him mama so much and it was the purest thing ever.

Riggs was such a grumpy teddy bear. He was helping Rhett in every single way possible. He did so much without expecting anything in return and his love was palpable before he even realised what that feeling was.

These two were very well suited for each other! I would do anything for grumpy PT Navarro Riggs.
As always we have the beautiful BALLS found family and our favourite bitches with stitches! The family is growing and its everything🥹

Yesterday the stars aligned, I was able to sit and read for good chunks of time, I finished a book in a day, which I haven’t been able to do in months. It felt d*mn good. I knew from book one of this series that Riggs book was going to be good, worth waiting for, what I didn’t see coming was Rhett Marsh, he plowed right into my heart like a Mac truck going 150mph. From the beginning he had me, and the more I got to know him the more I fell for him and when he experienced something almost identical to what I went through, it solidified his place in my heart. I have felt exactly what he was feeling, to the letter and that resonated with me so hard. I've always said a book that can make me cry is a d*mn good book and this is one of them. This book is heavy, it deals with a lot but it’s got the banter and the b*tches, we’ve come to love so much. And last but not least Riggs, I had pieced together this character in my mind from the bits and pieces I learned of him from the prior books and boy did he ever exceed the bar I had set for him, he’s a d*mn good man in every way. I can’t wait to see where this series goes but I know I'm going to love whatever Raquel comes up with!

“You’re worth every lonely night I waited for you and dreamed of you.”

I just knew that Warrior’s Walk would be an emotional journey before I ever started based on the other fabulous books in the Scars and Stripes Trilogy, but wow, has Raquel Riley excelled herself with this book.

Warrior’s Walk is worth every painful step, especially with the Bitches with Stitches alongside to guide you through with their huge hearts and humour.

The final book in the trilogy sees hardass PT Riggs get his well-deserved HEA.

Riggs might go hard on his charges, but he gets them back on their feet with his methods.

I've been wanting Navarro Riggs' story since we first met him, and it was worth the wait!

A PT and combat medic with the reserves, Riggs has had his own war trauma to deal with, so he understands these men.

It's when he's deployed, he helps to save the life of Rhett, a member of the 82nd Airborne, who is injured in combat.

Riggs tries his hardest to fight his feelings for Rhett, but these two are inevitable. From the moment they meet they are connected. And it's oh so sweet when Riggs finally gives him to the soul-deep connection between them.

'Like a moth drawn to a flame, I’m begging to get burned.
There’s a spark between us—more like an inferno.
I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t choose him. My heart did.'

And each time he calls Rhett 'soldier' I just melt!

Rhett Butler Marsh is an absolute sweetheart. Young, cocky and flirtatious, underneath it all he's a mama's boy. And what a mama he has. A Gone With The Wind fanatic, a true southern belle, and the most loving and fabulous woman. Her story, and her love and devotion to her son, are a huge part of why this book is so beautiful.

Rhett has been through hell in action, losing his best friend, as well as having his ability to jump taken away, and then his mama's journey, but even though he gets down, he has the strength to get back up again - with the support of Riggs and the Bitches - and I love his strength and spirit.

If you haven't read this series, you really are missing out. Whilst the romantic relationships in these books are beautiful; it's the friendship and the warrior spirit in each of these men that have the books embedded in my heart forever. There is no one else you could want in your corner than the Bitches. Who wouldn’t want them to bring you companionship and a duvet movie day when you're at your lowest, or camaraderie and fun on your good days. These guys amaze me.

I can't wait for more from the Bitches. I love these guys so much, especially Mandy. I'm so excited for their stories to come, and maybe we'll even have other's in the future... flirty Rand, perhaps?!!

These warriors will always be with me. I'll think of them when I see Top Gun, or when I look at knitting, there's a little Valor in each black kitten, and Rhett Butler will be present each time I see his namesake. Thank you for creating each of these heroes, Raquel. I'll always hold them dear in my heart.

🪂🪂🪂🪂🪂

“I fell in love with you because you saw me at my worst and still wanted me. You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. You made me feel like it was all right to be the worst version of myself, and yet, you made me want to be the best version I could be. That’s how I knew I loved you.”

“I’m coming back for you, soldier. You’re mine, don’t forget that.”

3/5 ⭐

4.5⭐️

This book, as with all of this series, is very emotional. Rhett loses everything he holds dear in a short space of time. He’s young and resilient in terms of his injury, but the losses keep piling up.

I thought Riggs was a bit of a dick. I’ve loved him in all the books, and separate from the way he treated Rhett for two-thirds of the book, I loved him still. But I couldn’t get my head around or justify his behaviour towards Rhett. He had no proof, nothing to back up his idea of what he was accusing Rhett of. He just made an assumption and went with it. There was no explanation of why he was so guarded, so it just made him out to be an arsehole.

Once again, no progress on Mandy, and even though there’s now a Bitches with Stitches series, he’s still not got his own. I now believe the author is holding his story ransom at this point! 😆

It was another great story of loss, love, and found family. They all carry that theme and they’re all super emotional. Once again the morally grey area of patient and therapist didn’t bother me; I’ve read worse than that. I just love the fact that these guys have been to hell and back and get their happy endings.

ARC REVIEW!!

Raquel continues to blow my mind with this series. it’s literally so fucking good. the last few chapters of this took me out and i was crying everywhere. Rhett is such a sweet angel mamas boy and i just adored him and felt for him. what he went through in the beginning to everything with his mom.. he really is a fucking warrior are so inspiring! i love him so much. and Riggs, this book made me even more obsessed with him than i already was, he really is just incredible and deserves this love and more. BUT honestly my favorite thing about this series is “bitches with stitches” all of those men are just amazing and i want to be besties with all of them! they just melt my heart everytime they show up for one another. DAMN I JUST LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH!! i can’t wait for more 🖤

This is the third book in the Scars and stripes series and what an incredible and beautifully written series. You could feel the pain of these brave characters. In Warrior's Walk we meet Rhett who badly hurt his leg in action and physiotherapist/medical aid Riggs attended to him in the helicopter but they have a deep connection but Rhett doesn't see Riggs for a while after, although Riggs keep an eye on Rhett. Rhett struggles with his new future of not being able to continue in the army and coping with the gruelling rehab. His nurse suggests that he moves away and continues his rehab at the BALLS Facility which also happens to be where Riggs works and they reconnect. Rhett is keen for them to act on their attraction however Riggs is resistant but he can only fight it for so long. This was a really heartfelt story about loss, grief, depression, finding yourself, support and finding love. I couldn't put the book down.

A heartbreaking yet hopeful MM romance with military dudes, hurt/comfort, Grief, PTSD & mental health rep, a fun found family, Opposites attract, age gap, love in unexpected places & achieving new dreams!
I loved Rhett, Riggs, & this whole gang. Devoured my #ARC in around 6hrs!

Rhett was part of the battalion who I'm dubbing as "parachute jumpers". He's easy-going, flirty & went through so much here at just 23—having down, bleak days—still I loved that he persevered, even closed off & hurt, didn't ever lose hope fully (credits to his "nurses" lol). I loved his mom 😭❤️.

Riggs is a workaholic, he's a medic, army nurse & physical therapist while volunteering FOR YEARS. He cares a lot, loves making a good change, is strict with tough love, professional & cautious. He got walls mile high but somehow Rhett, his latest patient, gets in!

Meeting in the battle field sure sets the mood! A deep bond forged in trauma. Still this was such a SLOWBURN..! Riggs was so good at resisting 🤨 (I didn't kinda understand why until later). The jealousy scenes' so fun hah. When they finally come together it's sexy 🔥 (rimming love 🥵). I had wanted to see their after "almost break up" talk in depth tho!

TW: friend & parental death (on page). I expected the 1st but the dreaded the 2nd, gosh darn 😭😭😭 IYKYK. I just wanted to hug the heck outta R!! Hardwon HEA for real. It was cool to see the actual Warrior's Walk! I'm so excited for the spin off series.

This is the last installment of the Stars and Stripes series and it was good. Nothing compares to the first book though in my opinion. Brandt and West’s story was just so riveting and I couldn’t put it down. Now to this one. It started off really good and kept me intrigued. I was dying for Riggs story ever since he was introduced but to be honest when I read this one it was hard to connect with him. I adored Rhett and he was literally a big Marshmallow. The story had good pace but after a while kind of fell flat for me. I will say this one was better than the second book which I really couldn’t get into. At times I just felt that Riggs was little hard on Rhett and especially the constant thoughts of him just being a fuckboy and someone who didn’t take things seriously didn’t really make sense when that’s not the impression I got from Rhett’s chapters. It seemed in the beginning when the attractions was really present, Riggs’ version of Rhett seemed like d completely different character. I loved the Bitches, I so so so cannot waiting for Mandy’s story, I’m itching for him to get his HEA!!!! Overall, it was good but just kind of felt short and not as raw and emotional as I would’ve liked.

3.5⭐️ rounded up. I loved book 1 and OMG book 2 has my entire hearttttt (Brewer is the BEST!). This book started off soo strong. The connection portrayed in the first few pages when they meet as strangers, I was SO excited… while it still had many many great moments… the book did fall off for me. I feel like there just too many other side plots and moving pieces happening. It felt as if they hardly had any actual pages as an actual couple.

This book. What can I say? From the first 10 pages or so, I had that 5 star feeling. And guess what? 5 freaking stars!

I knew Riggs was going to have to find a man who could deal with his enthusiasm and hard work ethnic and Rhett was just the man for the job! Their initial meeting was … tough. Rhett almost dying and Riggs staying with him, refusing to let me be alone. Very emotionally charged and I ate it up.

I think what I loved most about Rhett was not only how much he loved his friends (especially Brian, after opening his box), but also his realistic attitude towards the way his life was going. He had his downward spirals, but the people in his life wouldn’t let him fall.

Riggs should’ve gotten his head out of his behind sooner haha, but that’s just who he is. He refused to go easy on Rhett, knowing his true power and potential. I loved watching both of them push each other further than they may have thought possible.

And the BITCHES. Love them to pieces! As with the other books in this trilogy, I absolutely love watching them rally and come together to support a Bitch in need. It’s also great to see them again, I never want this to end! Can’t wait for Hotdoggin’!

I highly recommend this series, and this was THE cherry on top. I laughed, I bawled like a baby, I smiled so hard… I’m looking forward to rereading this series in the future. Raquel Riley knows how to WRITE!

Rhett and Riggs ❤️

5 stars ⭐️

Giving this book 5 Stars was so easy, Raquel you have definitely outdone your self with this story and this series. From the moment Riggs and Rhett meet I knew that they would have a beautiful connection, not one shared from tragedy but one of those soul touching connections. Rhett was an absolute love of a man, even though he suffered tremendous loss in the field, he managed have the inward strength of 10 men and still have enough left of his former self to attract all the Balls crew and be treated as one of their own right away. These guys are such a freaking kicka** group, all of them ❤️ I found it so special and endearing that Riggs watched out for Rhett even though he tried to keep his distance and with that I'll say that Riggs was a surprise. Who knew the strongest PT, combat medic, and all around hard a** had weaknesses? I absolutely could not get enough of this relationship build, the hurt, the comfort, the spice and the love. As always the Balls boys showed up and showed out!! I will absolutely recommend this book and this trilogy, IMO it's a must read and is easily one of my favorite series to date.

I was going to give this a 4.5 star but I loved the ending of this to bump it up a notch.
A great start as Rhett 23 yrs enjoys the freedom of being in a parachute with his team ready to deploy on their next mission.
Riggs was a medic, when things go wrong on a mission he's there to help. Rhett is badly injured and its a race to save his life and leg which Riggs does.
Aww the feelings as I'd read were heart tugging as Rhett grieves for his friend.
A whole lot of emotions are included with this book and are much like the previous novels. Riggs plays it with the tough love when Rhett needs a shove to his PT therapy and is there when he's needed when it counts. Sexy scenes featuered along with their dual povs. I loved the humoured bantering, this being a military book it has scenes in war zones which result in PTSD. This had lots of emotions regarding their careers that caused trouble with them. Riggs was all in with his therapy and Rhett gets a second wind on a new occupation since he loves the skies. Dramas and sadness for Rhetts mum as she struggled with her illness that shed kept a secret from her son.
I’m looking forward to when Mandy gets his story.
I really enjoyed this story as Rhett and Riggs finding their HEA ending.

Warriors walk

What an ending to this trilogy!
I have become so attached to all of these guys I’m not sure what to do with myself until we get the Bitches and Stiches book.
I was so happy so get Riggs book. The man that holds the whole group together, the only one still actively serving, the one who gets everyone to open up but is a steel cage about himself. Riggs deserved a happy ending and found a sure bet in Rhett on his last deployment.
Rhett southern mamas boy, with a heart of gold. An adrenaline junkie and a wild boy. An injured warrior, who has lost it all, but then finds he has more than he’s ever had after trauma and tragedy.
The found family in these books might be the most perfect one I’ve ever gotten to read. The bitches are funny, loving, caring, and nothing short of the family all the guys deserve and honestly it’s the family everyone of us deserve and I miss them all already!

Just wow! Tears, laughter, heartbreak, friendship, self discovery and love- all these things are in this story! This third in the trilogy was just as moving and wonderful as the first two! The bonds that developed after the hell is gone through is incredible to read.

This trilogy didn’t get better because each story is its own perfection! Each couple has their own unique story that in combination with the next makes you fall even harder for this circle of men!

Rhett and Riggs are so perfect for each other even when fighting it(at least one of them). Their communication is good but even the best communicators miss the mark! The emotions will tear you up but they will also bring you back together!

Pure emotion from beginning to end!

Loved it!

Riggs and Rhett meeting while Rhett is going through the most horrendous ordeal a soldier can go through was so beautiful. Even though he feels like his life is ending, he finds his hope in the person who is fighting like hell to keep him alive. I loved this as the start of their story, no chapters long intro, straight to the beginning of them.

I love how Raquel writes these stories that don’t focus on the injury but the journey of the soul. Not only dealing with their loss but building a new future, letting love in again and thriving.

The bitches with stitches are the most amazing support group you will ever encounter. They really bring joy to the story and have me laughing every single time. I want many more stories with these men and their knitting ways!

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Warrior's Walk is the third and final book in the Scars And Stripes Trilogy series. It can be read as a standalone but why not enjoy the rest of the series. This is the story of Rhett who was wounded in the military and Navarro Riggs(Riggs) who is his physical therapist. This was such a great story. I love the characters so much. Raquel Riley does an amazing job with this book just like all her others. I can't wait for whatever she writes next. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

This book is book 3 in the series and a beautiful addition to it!

4.5🌟

Rhett’s world shatters when a brutal parachute fall leaves him with a shattered leg and a devastating loss. Riggs, his fierce and grumpy rescuer, keeps him alive through it all. The bond between them is instant.

Back from deployment, Riggs can’t help but check up on Rhett, though he stays in the shadows, convinced Rhett’s not for him. But when Rhett finally notices him, the spark is undeniable, even if Riggs tries to hold back.

Watching Rhett’s journey, his healing, and the love he has for his mom was so moving. And Riggs—grumpy, steadfast, and with a heart of gold—was always there, helping Rhett without ever asking for anything in return.

This would have been an easy 5 stars if Riggs' hot-and-cold behaviour hadn’t stretched on quite so long.

I highly recommend this series 💛

The final book in this series focuses on Rhett and the PT Riggs.
Rhett has a horrible accident as he is jumping into the situation and Riggs is the medic who attends to him before they get him to hospital.
Once Rhett is Stateside he doesn't see Riggs for a while even though he is also Stateside and working in Rhetts hospital. Once he is discharged he makes the decision to go and live in NC and do his rehabilitation with the Bitches.
I did enjoy this book but at some points found Riggs to be controlling and not particularly nice.
