When Mexican-American, USA Today Bestselling author Aidèe Jaimes isn’t chasing after her energetic daughter and spending time with her happily ever after husband in their Florida home, she writes dangerously addictive dark romance filled with sexy criminals and the women that bring them to their knees!
DNF basically… I skimmed so much after the first 30%. This started out with promise but then lost its way and became a rinse and repeat cycle. Same ole same ole with no character development…. Too stretched out with nothing interesting happening between the mc’s.
★★★☆☆ ༶ 3.42/5 “The terms were clear. My sister as his dutiful bride, or my father’s blood on his blade.”
As somebody who doesn't read or enjoy dark romance that much, I have to say I was pretty impressed with this!
One of the main things that appealed to me was how the plot outside of the romance is fully developed. I always admire that in dark romances, since it adds some more depth to the story.
The plot was a bit cliche and predictable, but that doesn't necessarily make it bad. The twin swap? Arranged mafia marriage? Dominant guy + feisty girl? I've heard it all before, yet this book still made it enjoyable! The only thing was that since it was cliche, it made it so I already knew how some things were going to end, but when said thing was revealed, I still liked it.
None of the characters in particular stood out to me. I liked Carina and admired how she selflessly sacrificed her freedom and herself to save her family, but otherwise the characters were nothing especially memorable. So, in simpler terms, the characters were good, but not great.
Personally, I didn't enjoy the smut, but I knew what I was getting into when I started reading a dark romance, so although I didn't like it, others might! Just make sure to check TW's first.
If I was an avid dark romance reader, to make this a five star read, I think it would have to strengthen the characters, for I felt like although they (only Carina and Luca) were fully developed in their own respects, they lacked an extremely lovable personality? Maybe it is just me, but I never particularly liked any of the characters.
I would also like it some more if it spent a little more time really getting into the mystery that was involved. While solving it, a lot of the times the answer was just found with no real thinking and contemplating shown. I also felt that way with the ending, sometimes things played out too simple.
I think most of my reluctance to love this is just personal preference. A lot of this book was smut, and although it was well-executed, I just don't like the amount of smut it contained. But again, I knew what I was getting into when I started a dark romance.
Overall, I liked it. It had a good plot, good characters, good writing (I think the writing was the strongest aspect of this book), and it's just that- good. I'd recommend this to literally any dark romance reader, it's a good, classic, dark romance that was an enjoyable read!

I kind of enjoyed the smut, but the story was two dimensional and thus b o r i n g.
Why was Luca so hated by his father? Why didn't he keep in touch with Tony, if he loved him so much? It felt like Carina became a new person. The whole book she's just thinking about Luca (during her POV) then suddenly she's some super criminal mastermind?! She made it seem like she despised the criminal world, but she was deeply involved (maybe unwillingly at first) but she got off on it. Which we only find out in a big info dump from the bad guy. Nothing she did or said thus far indicated that she was this clever.
Dad and Alma were seriously pathetic selfish creatures. Neither of them had redeeming qualities. We never knew anything solid about Alma, because we never got to know her. There were no memories, no conversations, nothing.
Honestly this read like an outline.. great bones, no meat. I will not be reading book 2, I thought it was going to be about Sophia and i don't care enough about Noah to read one about him.

This is a new author to me and I kind of expected the same old cliche mafia romance with an arranged marriage. This one is not the cookie cutter arranged marriage trope you have read a billion times. This author has brought a unique and compelling story to the table within this book. Carina and Alma are identical twins. When Luca needs a wife he chooses to marry the quiet and reserved twin who would be an obedient and controllable wife. Instead he ends up with Carina and the way this story played out kept me glued to the page. I totally recommend this book. No major ow drama , sharing, or cheating. There is a scene with Luca gives the sister a kiss because he was engaged to marry her but otherwise nothing else. They really didn’t have a romantic connection and she was being forced into the marriage. Lots of spice!
Loved this new Series! Lucas and Carina are perfect together. How they got together and then wrestle with their attraction is steamy and pivotal to this organized crime storyline. The overall arch will continue in book two however these protagonists did welcome their HEA personally and professionally with a surprise new leader. I’m definitely recommending this book for your reading pleasure. PEACE.

The writer is talented, but something is off. There is a VERY obvious formula in the first two books, that clearly looks to be repeated in the third. And unfortunately, the nature of that formula is the worst part of the books.
The MMC is angry at the FMC. Usually connected in some way to the sins of her father. The FMC is, of course, a wonderful person. Yet the MMC must punish her and take out all his rage. This usually involves her being kept prisoner in his bedroom and told she must get naked and give up the sex whenever he commands. To which the FMC just says... okay. The FMC is not a wimp or stupid or Mary Sue or TSTL. But she is in love and likes the sex, so even when she is being treated like a piece of meat, she just says... okay. There is always some sex where the MMC just takes her without regard to her pleasure, so no orgasm for her. And eventually lots of sex with lots of orgasms for all.
IDK there is just a real disconnect between this formula and the rest of the book. Because in the rest of the book, the MMC is smart, strong and independent. He doesn't tie himself to the demands of his family. He is not needlessly cruel or inhumane. He is obsessively in love with the FMC. You know, the standard mafia formula that has the MMC pursuing her and vowing to make her his and give her endless orgasms and keep her under his protection. But in these books, the MMC instead vows to destroy her and not give her orgasms. But it is not enemies to lovers or anything like that. It's just an obsessed mobster, treating a girl like a sex toy, threatening to kill her, then declaring her love. Which I know SOUNDS like a lot of other mafia books... but it's not.
The formula doesn't work for me. I am so close to feeling the love and obsession, but instead I feel like the MMC has dehumanized the FMC, and she has... just become an empty body. Each book is so close to being great, but then just leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.
I do think a lot of this would be helped with longer books. These feel like novellas, which are laying out a lot of drama and angst, but then just wrapping them up with a relatively corny love ending. Instead of spending the extra 50 pages actually fleshing out the angsty emotions, so it's not just horrible actions followed by love declarations.
I really didn't like the writing style of this one. I felt there was just a lot of unnecessary repetition, both in the writing and the plot. It felt like one step forward 4 steps back and they just had the same arguement on repeat. Not only did that make it dull to read but pretty infuriating. The fact the FMC was depicted as the only smart person in the whole of the city was mind-numbingly stupid because they'd established that he built his company from the ground up, worked out deals with all these people, done so much badass stuff but then undermine it all by half way through changing it so he needs her help for everything. I understand the author was trying to get him to let her in, have him see he's not alone. But it could have been done by him coming to her for help with something and they work on it together. Not her just see everything and work it out in two seconds, before mocking him for not getting it sooner. It threw off the Dom/sub dynamic and made everything feel forced and pointless. Their relationship was just toxic, noone repented or gained equal footing or respect by the end. He just needed her and she liked the sex. No heart to heart at the end where they hope to work on themselves or anything. Truly one of the most disappointing dark Romances I've read. Take the strong male and pull everything that makes him dark and twisty out so the woman becomes the powerful one, but that's not what makes these books good. Its the equality dynamic between the couple by the end that makes the dark and twisty stuff so good. Disappointed doesn't cover it.
This is truly an original mafia enemies to lovers w/ a slice of mythology mixed with the villain. I found that aspect intriguing. Carina I found her witty, sarcastic and a fun character to get to know. She was also intelligent and would rival Sherlock Holmes any day. She also loves her family fiercely and would try to do whatever it took to save them. Luka in the beginning was conflicted about taking over the family business when his older brother Tony was slaughtered. But then the mystery of what Tony had been secretly working on started to come to light, there was no way Luka could go back to what he was doing before. He was determined to find Tony's murderer. Thank goodness he inadvertently married Carina instead of her identical twin sister Alma. Carina is a problem solver and was the one putting the pieces together about the murderer of Tony and several of the crime bosses in the surrounding states. There is so much more to this book. It really had me glued to each page because the murderer's calling card had to do with mythology. Fascinating!! I look forward to the next book that continues the chase for the villain. A must read. I highly recommend it.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. This books had some serious twists. Readers will have to read it to believe it. The Sinacore family runs New York. When the head of the family is killed, Luca Is forced to take up the throne. Luca Sinacore is the prodigal son. He was able to make a name for himself but the Sinacore empire was always knocking at his door. The main proponent for Luca running the family was Uncle Ray. Ray convinces Luca that the only way that the family will accept him is if settles down and get married. Luca knew just the girl.
Carina Di Persia has always been the fixer for her family. Her dad got into trouble and she did everything in her power to keep the family together. Her dad owed a favor to Luca. The favor was Carina’s twin sister’s hand in marriage. Alma is the sweet one. Carina had backbone and sassiness to spare. Could she pull off the impossible?? Would Luca find out? What would Luca do if he found out?
This book is fast-paced and unexpected. Readers don’t just get this marriage switch but also trying to solve the mystery of who killed Luca’s brother. So much going on that readers will not be able to put this book down. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Welcome to the Sinacores, an established but fading Famiglia. When Luca - the black sheep of the family (is that even possible with mafia!) has no choice but to take over his family 'business' after the brutal murder of his brother Tony, the Don, and take a wife, little does he know he is getting a whole lot more female than he bargained for.
Carina, feisty daughter of a nearly bankrupt and failed mafia associate, is forced to take her meek twin sister's place and marry Luca, the man she hates. Will Luca discover the ruse? Will he kill them all?
This part of the plot becomes secondary to a serial killer on the loose targeting the heads of the mafia cartels in the US. Who is the mysterious Ferryman?
This is not what I was expecting! The forced marriage trope already comes with a twin's twist and the murder plot becomes a real Sherlock Holmes whodunnit! Who can crack the Ferryman code?
Excellent writing and likeable characters. 4 stars because it wasn't quite as dark as I was hoping for (that's all on me!) but an excellent read nonetheless.

I really liked Carina. While she is feisty and stubborn, she also is a bit self-sacrificial, always helping her family and fixing issues. She is resourceful and intelligent.
Luca is definitely ruthless but seems to have a caring side to him. He is concerned for his siblings and his housekeeper, Nan, and has made a trusty ally in Gunn.
These two definitely come to blows, having never gotten along while growing up. I could see why Luca could fall for Carina with her attitude and wit, and I guessed even in the beginning it was her he had his eyes for. It was a little hard to understand why Carina fell for him though given how he treats her and it seems her attraction to him was more physical than emotional.
Additionally, I felt the mystery behind the murders of the leaders was what kept my interest the most, as I really wanted to know whodunnit. While we do find out the answer, things remain unresolved and this book sets the stage for the overarching plot. We get a bittersweet ending, but one that will want you to keep following this series and know what happens next!.

4.5 I gave this story this rating because this author veered away from the cookie-cutter format that some authors in this genre use repetitively. Did I like Carina and Luca's characters the entire book, absolutely not. Most stories have portions of a book in the storyline whereas I am "eye rolling or thinking really" whereas a character's actions or inactions or their over zealous nature or spineless nature make me pause. I seldom read an entire book without having moments of dislike for a character at some point. As long as those moments are short lived I am fine with a story. It is only when those moments become a repetitive theme that I have issue with that character. The writing was well done and the characterization of all the characters was done top notch. The author did a good job of introducing many new players into the storyline without bogging done the progression of the book. I read the second book in the series and loved it even more.
Luca and Carina's love story is one that has been suppressed far to long with a love/hate history. When it finally explodes it sets the pages on fire.
Carina's was a good solid character except for her "fixer" personality. Everything she did for Alma and her father was to try and fix everything that went sideways in the family or to stop a disaster. In all fairness to her character she was smarter than her father and Alma put together, so hence the pressure by daddy dearest to mole her into his "fixer' from a very young age. No father should put that pressure on a young child and then upon a teenager and young woman.
I felt sorry for Alma's character in the beginning of the book until she and daddy planned her escape leaving Carina to once again step-in and save their family. I didn't realized how weak and self-centered her character was at that point. She had never had to make any sacrifices because her twin was always there to pick of up the pieces. I didn't see the ending coming at that point in the book, but once again thought how misplaced her love and devotion was for a man who refused to stay out of trouble; thus putting the two people he supposedly love constantly at risk.
Luca was a bad boy who fought against the "light he craved in Carina" so he could maintain his darker side. I disliked that he took Carina's virginity in such a brutal way and treated her like a prisoner at times with clothing and food, but also saw the push and pull he fought in his desire for her. Had he actually gone after the woman he was drawn to instead of the quiet submissive one, things may have played out differently.
The story itself was very interesting and different in finding out who killed Tony and the other Don's. He and Carina begin to collaborate by constructing a puzzle that has many layers and many revelations leading to an ending that I did not expect, but segways into the next book..
If you like a different storyline in this genre, then you will like this book.
MERCILESS VOWS is the first instalment in Aidee Jaimes contemporary, adult SEVEN DEADLY SINACORES dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is the new king of the Sinacore Mafia, twenty-nine year old Luca Sinacore, and twenty-three year old Carina Di Persia’s story line.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Luca and Carina) MERCILESS VOWS follows in the wake of the murder of Luca Sinacore’s brother Tony, a murder that forces Luca to take control of the Sinacore Crime Family. In an effort to prove he is worthy, Luca must take a wife, and demands the hand of Alma Di Persia, as payment for a debt but Alma is too timid and weak, and her twin sister Carina, steps in to take control. All is not well in the criminal underworld, several of men in charge of the most powerful families have been murdered, and Luca is struggling to find a common denominator between them all. It is his new wife, Carina Di Persia that stumbles upon a similarity and probable cause, a cause that is about to hit too close to home. As Carina and Luca continue to butt heads in their marriage of convenience, someone else is pulling the string behind the scenes. What ensues is the building but contemptuous relationship between Carina and Luca, and the potential fall-out as the real target of a killer is someone close.
The relationship between Luca and Carina begins acrimoniously although our couple have known one another for several years. Luca and Tony, along with Alma and Carina were thrown together by mutual family business but Carina has always believed Luca despises the ground upon which she walks, a belief predicated upon behavior and actions. The $ex scenes are intimate, aggressive and intense.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and powerful secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Carina’s twin sister Alma, and their father Gregorio; Luca’s sister Sofie, their uncle Ray, and Luca’s right hand man Gunn Sinclair. The requisite evil has many faces.
MERCILESS VOWS is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, crime and punishment, acceptance and forgiveness, family and dysfunction. The premise is gritty and dramatic; the romance is provocative; the characters are energetic, enigmatic and charismatic. MERCILESS VOWS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
Luca and his brother (Tony) and Carina and her sister (Alma) all knew each other as kids. Their fathers had done some business together in the past. After Luca's father passed away, Tony took over as the head of the Sinacore family. Luca then went out on his own and started his own business. Tony was murdered along with several of his men, so then Luca came home and took over as the head of the Sinacore family. Someone was also killing people in other mafia families.
Luca Sinacore was to marry Alma Di Persia to make the family look stronger. Alma was the shy, quiet sister. That is why she was chosen to be his wife. Carina was headstrong, outspoken and liked to have her say.
Alma already had her dress and was to be married the next day. She got scared and ran away without telling her family. So Carina had to think of something, other wise Mr. Di Persia ( her dad ) would be killed. Carina had always fixed the mess ups before. Carina took her sister's place, because they were twins. She had always had feelings for Luca. I think Luca and Carina are the best match. I think Luca was really happy that he married Carina.
There is so much more to read and discover. Just sit back and get comfortable. Enjoy! I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next.
An arrainged marriage is set up between Luca and Alma, Carina's twin sister. Almost at the last minute, Alma disappears, leaving a note for Carina that she cannot marry Luca. Knowing that her father would die if the marriage doesn't happen, Carina takes her sisters place and marries Luca.
Alma and Carina coudn't be more different. Alma is quiet and demure while Carina is a spitfire and speaks her mind. The marriage happens but it doesn't take Luca long to realize that Carina took her sisters place and he is livid.
He and Carina hate one another, have since they were kids. Somewhere along the line, those feelings of hate turn into something else but neither realize it at this point. Meanwhile, someone is murdering the heads of the local family's as a vendetta for one of his that was killed. Can they stop this killer by forming an alliance with the other families? Will Luca and Carina realize the feelings they have towards one another?
Carina is a tough cookie, for real. She will protect her family til the end. Unfortunately she will also suffer loss as happens with the Mafia life. She will never be a demure wife but she will help Luca and that starts to change their feelings. Luca and Carina make quite the power couple and work well together.
The story is good, the writing also as well as the flow of the story. This couple drew you into their life and you can't help but root for them! I enjoyed their story so much that I started reading the rest of the series. These are standalone books, each focusing on other members of the "alliance" that was formed.
I received a free copy of this book and am leaving an honest review.
Luca must take over the family after the death of his brother and though there was some reluctance, he is willing to do whatever is necessary to be taken seriously. He must marry to show he is capable of commitment and he has the perfect woman in mind. Unfortunately, Alma is terrified of what her future will become and so her twin must step into the role instead pretending to be every bit the quiet sister. Luca needed a shy bride who wouldn't question him but would make him look in control.. Instead he gets an opinionated lioness. The lie will be punished and someone will have to suffer for this deceit... What will Carina do?
A wickedly heated story of forced marriage that turns enemies into lovers and everything inbetween. He may have wished for one sister but is determined to get the most from the one he actually has. I loved how this story was written with certain amounts of darkness and enough erotica to make one definitely sweat. I adored the emotion, the passion, the suspense, the mystery and the action that made this the most exciting book I've read in a while. Carina is stubborn, fiery, disobedient and the exact opposite to what Luca originally wanted but this female is one after my own heart. The characters are well developed and thought out with such serious natures you can't help getting caught in the glare. The ending promises more drama to come and I can't wait for the thrill of the next offering.

Merciless Vows by Aidee Jaimes is the first book in the Seven Deadly Sinacores series. Carina Di Persia stands in for her identical twin and marries Luca Sinacores to save the life of her father and her runaway twin sister. Luca wanted the quiet, shy, docile twin, Alma Di Persia, as his bride, even though he was drawn obsessively to her twin sister Carina. Carina was Alma’s polar opposite, she was fire, controversial, outspoken, and troublesome. None of the qualities he wanted in a wife, regardless of his attraction to her. After Alma runs away the morning of her wedding, Carina does what she has always done and steps in to save the day. When their father gambled away their home and business, Carina set aside her dreams of grad school at NYU and worked two jobs to bring income into the house to pay back some of his debt and her sister’s. Alma was too fragile to help Carina out, and instead, accumulated her own debt shopping at expensive stores for clothing that Carina never enjoyed. Luca is not fooled by Carina’s deception and promises her that her father and sister will pay with their lives if she refuses to honor her commitment to be his obedient and compliant wife in all things. This is how their story begins and it is a wild, sizzling hot and delicious ride for them both! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and cannot wait for the next one in the series. Aidee Jaimes is my new favorite author!!

This book was so close to hitting the mark, but unfortunately just missed it! Although it was a page turned and I finished it quickly, I just wasn’t invested.
I loved the premise, and the beginning was great! But I wish that throughout, we could have gotten more character development and backstory with Luca and Carina. Maybe even some flashbacks to their childhood, and some endearing story’s from the past to really fall in love with the characters. It also needed some reason, other than great sex (which seemed really great, the spice was on point) that they eventually fell in love. I just needed more. Maybe some heartfelt conversations in bed, small things they did for each other when the other didn’t expect it, etc.
As far as the plot, I felt it was a bit complicated and the characters kept getting mixed up in my head. I had to keep going back and trying to remember who was who. Again, more detail, more character development, just more.
Lastly I felt that Carinas character did a 180 at the end. All of a sudden she’s the boss of NY and running meetings for all these crime lords? It was just a bit out of left field.
I think the book COULD be great….the plot could be intriguing, it just needs to be more developed to really interest me.

SERIES/ORDER: The Seven Deadly Sinacores Book 1 GENRE: Mafia Romance TROPES: Enemies to lovers, forced marriage/marriage of convenience, O-denial, Twin swap, Suspense SPICE: 🌶️🌶️ POV: Dual COUPLE: Carina and Luca CLIFFHANGER?: Not for the couple but the suspense plot continues in the next book and there is a cliffhanger for a side character. VERSION: Kindle
Notes: Carina and Luca have known each other since they were children and have been reluctantly attracted to one another for years. Both in denial of that attraction, they snipe and glare at each other every time they meet. Sparks fly between these two. The chemistry is off the charts! I did find myself yearning for a bit more in the feelings department. While these two are attracted to each other they never really acknowledge any real feelings for one another outside of hate. The romance could have been developed much better, especially because Carina and Luca seemed to work together so well trying to figure out who was murdering the people around them. That would be my only complaint. Overall the story is good, but I feel maybe it was rushed and the plot and romance could have been developed more, which is the reason for 3 stars. That feeling of “this is so close to being great” followed me throughout the read. Looking forward to the next book in the series and seeing how the Alliance moves forward.
Rating - 2.8/5 Spice -3/5 Hea GRUMPPY × sassy girl

Aidee Jaimes' "Merciless Vows" is a compelling blend of strong drama and seductive romance. Thus far, the novel has captivated me with its captivating storyline and robust character development, drawing me into the world of Luca and Carina. But I couldn't help but wish there had been more cuddling, adorable moments between the characters. The story has a lot of sexual tension, which is fascinating, but it should have been counterbalanced with gentler, more intimate exchanges to strengthen their bond.
Quotes such as "Luca is my death sentence, yet in my lust-filled insanity, I fiercely cling to him. Wanting his taste in my mouth and his touch against my skin," and, "Carina is my dangerous ride. She gets under my fucking skin like no one else ever has. I can’t dislodge her from it. I’m not sure I want to anymore. And that makes her the deadliest thing in my life," Luca and Carina's love is a hot, powerful one. Although their enthusiasm is evident, it occasionally seems to take center stage in the story
I'm still interested in the series and want to read the remaining novels despite this. I'm interested to see if the remaining episodes of the series provide more of the romantic balance I long for.

What i love about this book was the mystery murdery revenge plot, not the usual mafia or organized crime. I can't believe i say this, but this makes the smegsi scenes aren't vocal point for me. I really need this plot to be thicker than the romance, for once.
I love the charachters on their own. Carina with her strength, miss fix everything with her dad and twin sister, smart and tough although repeated use by her father and sister. But her attitude when bursting in a meeting was too arrogantly stupid with no lady killer charm for me.
While Luca, his motif in wanting to marry the other twin, was easy to know from the start. His overflow arrogant wasn't bit interesting specially when he said Carina didnt know how to handle the big boys.. Insert roll eyes here. His sense of dominant just because he's the man really put me off.
Their enemy to lovers act was easy to detect. Their chemistry was... I just wasn't interested. At the end, Carina feels more dominant than Luca 🤷♀️
Another thing i love? The assasin. I got a feeling the villains would be more interesting in the coming books.

This is the first book I have read from this author and I think I am going to have to add her to my must reads! Alma and Carina are twins. Alma is the more submissive of the two. Carina is feisty, sassy, not afraid to speak her mind. When their father gets in a little trouble, Luca Sinacore wants Alma for his bride – he needs someone who will be by his side and make him look good (be seen, but not heard!). Alma ends up running away and Carina must act like she is Alma so her father will not be killed.
Will Alma (Carina) be able to pull this off? She has a love/hate relationship for Luca. What happens when Luca figures out he has been deceived? Will this be the end for Carina? Or will they find a way to make this work? Carina has a very hard time keeping her mouth closed when she starts to put the pieces together of what really happened to Luca’s father.
Betrayal, drama, passion, devotion, love and risk are plenty! Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
