DNF @ 10% from extreme mental fatigue due to the word "basket(s)" appearing 53 times in the first chapter alone. Yes, I was so frustrated I went back and counted.

Even setting that aside, the writing style was excessively repetitive. The tragic backstory was laid on thicker than a clay face mask, and how often in one day does a person really think about their employer dying? I mean, I know she's ninety, but is she so incredibly frail you can't go five minutes without praying she doesn't drop dead?

Nora

This book is a wonderful, funny at times, possibly true to life book like I've never read before. The heart ache felt for Nora, Lynn, and Jessie bought more than a few tears during the read. I could feel and visualize each person in this book because of the adequate descriptions presented by Cait London.
Hopefully I will be blessed enough to be able to enjoy the rest of the books free. Thank you for your superb writing.

Baskets that show how to love.

A story from a basket is a wonderful idea. From making a basket to receiving such a special gift to open your heart and mind to. I enjoyed how baskets brought people together in the name of love. Jessie's kindness to the battered women was so powerful that it makes me want to reach out to others more. That is a great gift. Enjoy the book as much as I did.

A wonderful read!

This was a great start to a series, and throwing basket weaving in as an integral part of the story along with a little suspense, I was hard put to stop reading when I had to! I look forward to reading the rest of the series. Thank you!

Very cathartic. Deep. Tear jerker. It felt a little repetitive initially, but was honest view into mind damaged by abuse.

Unique

Nora O'Connor Elliott is a hard headed 42 year old woman who raised two sons alone after her abusive husband was killed. She has a hard time showing affection or any other feelings because of that abuse. She doesn't want a man in her life. Nora only has one close relationship, and that is with Jessie, the elderly woman who, along with her husband Virgil, took Nora in when she showed up in Mill Haven, Missouri (a fictional small town set in the Ozarks. Although Nora doesn't want a relationship, Dan Berenger has been in love with her for years. He wants to take care of her and teach her that relationships don't have to be full of anger and fear.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters and the story are well developed. The storyline is different from anything I've read before. The book is fairly long, but it uses that space for character and plot development, so it can fully tell Nora and Dan's story. There are many parts to the story, because it also includes part of Jessie and Virgil's story and introduces Lynn and Max, a young woman and her 3 year old son who are running from an abusive husband. It was a joy for me to witness the change in Nora's temperament as she begins developing relationships with Lynn, Dan, as well as trying to rebuild relationships with her own sons, Josh and Zach. I also enjoyed the element of suspense woven into the story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys women's fiction that could actually be based on a true story, where everything isn't all roses, sunshine, and unicorns. A plus for me was that there was only a small amount of bad language, and no graphic sexual situations. I would definitely read the rest of the books in this series.

This book was very interesting. It starts with an elderly lady who is the shopkeeper of a basket shop in a rural country town. She is the original "basket maker's wife". She and her husband took in a woman and her two little boys who were running from an abusive relationship and that woman now works in the shop. They are now awaiting the arrival of "the gift", who turns out to be a young woman with a little boy. These three ladies form a special bond and circle. The middle lady, Nora, spends one night with the guy that has been chasing her for five years and becomes pregnant. She does not handle this well, but the other ladies help her. The book is about journeys, healings, relationships, blessings and believing.

Wonderful Book!
This was an unusual story. The characters are all quirky and I fell in love with them from the beginning. They are wonderfully developed with storylines that make you want to know what happens to them. They have gone through hard times and come out on the other side. It also has the intuitive element that Cait often writes about. I loved this story and cannot wait to begin the next in the series.

The Basket Maker's Wife

Well I have to say at first when I started reading this novel I almost just walked away from it. But then I was hooked and could not stop reading. Yes, this story was so beautiful, and yet our heroines had such hard and cruel lives. They lived in fear and yet tried not to show their children how frighten they were and really only wanted to give love to them

I've loved Cait London's books for a very long time. I really loved the concept for this book. The characters were people that you'd love to meet and be able to help the women who had to endure things women shouldn't have to. I also loved the grit shown by these women. I really look forward to the next two.

Overcoming lifes challenges and pain. Is possible÷

This book gets into the nutty gritty of the long term effects of battered women syndrome and show that life can have happy endings when the right people come together. This book ties the physical and spiritual together in a tender and heartwarming way.
