It was an enjoyable read! Though the novel does have some introspective, tacit and within one's heart moments, the narrative offers something relatable for the 90s and early 2000s readers. Love, relationship, family, marriage, dating, career, compromises and much more... the author has tried to pour emotion and intellect into an interesting love story that arouses readers on various occasions. Kabir is almost a perfectionist in every walk of life. Mishti is emotionally attached to her father and sister. She disregards any marriage prospects but changes her stance in the very first meeting with Kabir, her father's friend's son. And there, the story begins with a compromising deal struck between these two protagonists of the novel.
I liked the idea and the layout of the story. It has many twists. Engaging exchanges, moments of conflicts and confusion, commitment and care, and much more adorn the journey of these two characters with important roles played by Jitin and Mithee, to an extent.
Well, readers might not get along with prolonged conversations, at times. Enjoy if you like a steadily, conversational, and a rather pacified romantic novel!

Dr Avirupa's writing offers a detailed sketch of an emotional journey covered by the protagonist of the novel, Mishti, who is trapped in a catch 22 situation – whether to fall in love (other than casual relationships she had in the past) or remain committed to her family, father and sister. In this emotional flux, she forges a pact with Kabir, son of his father's close friend, Dinesh, and someone she has known for her life. These two, Kabir and Mishti, date on and off, and try to keep their parents satisfied and themselves happy and relieved from seeing those matches from matrimonial websites. But, but, but... this compromise gradually begins to take shape of love... putting both Kabir and Mishti in a fix. What will happen? How will they manage? Will emotions overpower the notions?

I will say that Avirupa has managed to keep the story afloat even with those prolonged descriptions of the internal feelings and thought-flows. However, the novel might be too long to read for teenagers and young readers who may have read some racy romance... it's not like the usual work of fiction by authors many may have read. It hits different chords altogether.

No, it's not a love triangle at all! The cover may not be the exact representative of the story inside. Avirupa Basu, the author, has tried he best in plotting a novel that reflects contemporary aspirations in love relationships. Kabir is a charming guy, believes Mishti, the protagonist. They both agree to date occasionally to ensure they do away with the encounters with random people from matrimonial websites, and to please their parents. However, casual meet-ups transform into frequent dates and the couple unknowingly falls in love. But, a break-up falls in right after a few days... and it is still unsure what might be the future of this love story? To know more, you need to read the book.

As far as writing style and the storyline are concerned, Avirupa has done a brilliant job. The story moves at a moderate pace. There are very limited characters with the prime space shadowed by Kabir and Mishti and Mishti's inner being (with her thoughts and feelings described in detail). Interesting work to read on weekends!

Avirupa's portrayal of love might not attract a wild readership. However, the substantial writing, elaborate discussions, long conversations and a composed narrative (somehow reaching around 250 pages) do keep curious readers indulged in the on-off-on-confused-let's do it kind of relationship shared by the protagonist Mishti and her love-interest Kabir.

This love story has many turns, twists and plots. Though the writing might reflect a prosaic treatment of the romantic notion of romance, it is indeed meaningful and readable. Love triumphs, as one could guess. Nevertheless, this story has many interesting episodes – a girl who wants to eat it all managing to get along with a guy who is conscious of it all – food, dress, public image, and more. If you like a little serious, detailed, and well-thought fiction built around a journey from casual meet-ups to committed love, enjoy it!

I found it relatable, readable and enjoyable to an extent. It's a long read.

The story centres around Mishti, the protagonist, who finds herself navigating the complexities of modern relationships alongside Kabir, a charming individual she agrees to date. The premise starts with a pragmatic arrangement between Mishti and Kabir; they decide to date each other to avoid the awkwardness and randomness of encounters from matrimonial websites, and to placate their parents.

However, as their casual meetings evolve into more frequent dates, Mishti and Kabir unintentionally find themselves falling in love. Despite this budding romance, the relationship hits a snag shortly after, leading to a breakup. The uncertainty surrounding the future of their relationship adds a layer of intrigue, prompting readers to continue with the book to uncover what lies ahead for the couple.

I fear it was more like an adventure within than beyond... Mishti is a self-made woman with stellar academic credentials... and first time I read in a novel someone mentioning researchgate, academia and citations... whoa! Well, other than working on Jane Eyre and Bronte Sisters, Mishti's taste in romance and relationships is also an important subject of this novel as she tests the waters with Kabir, her friendly foe for long. After having a casual relationship with Jitin, Kabir's cousin, during school, Mishti is set up with Kabir by her father... what's next for her? She explores all the options and prefers rather denying Kabir because she just does not want to get married. But, as they say in fiction, nothing is permanent.

Enjoy reading this out of the box contemporary fiction with some of the 90s charm and much of contemporary elements.

I will be honest if I say I liked the oddity of this romantic comedy... Yes, you seldom get to read something in rom-com genre that challenges you enough. It was not a page-turner to be frank. However, it was compelling enough for me to read it within 2 days, the E-book edition. Dr. Avirupa Basu's writing may appear stretched and slow at times. Her story, nevertheless, is well-thought and energised. Frequent meetings of two unlikely lovers and their concerns for life, love, family, parents, career, and anything else in general... worth your time. Jitin's entry makes the novel more charged and love triangle may seem to take shape only for a very dramatic conclusion to follow, much later. Time consuming? Yes. But do give it a try. I said the first thing – it might seem odd. But that's where the strength lies.

In short, a good one-time contemporary romantic fiction with a very different notion of romance, to be honest.

Avirupa's writing is detailed, over-stretched at times, literary, soothing if you have read good literature in the past, with a present-day coating of things that young people do – dine, wine, whine!

I liked the idea of a couple-not-to-be romance... the very concept that two people who seldom liked each other in the past come together to give their parents some hope and save themselves the trouble to sit with random matrimonial matches... is hilarious and amazing at the same time.

I hope you like this Mishti (yes, Bengali) and Kabir (introduced in the beginning as Dinesh uncle's son) story!

Somersault? Someone's heart flips 360°!

The protagonist of the novel is a brilliant 21st-century girl who is a research scholar pursuing post-doctoral. Her thoughts about marriage and falling in love or seeing herself in a serious relationship with a guy are very different. However, an arranged dinner-date by her father changes everything in Mishti's life... Kabir enters. Things change. Gradually, occasional encounters change into frequent ones and further into love. But, how will two with opposed ideals of life remain together? And then, there are other things to consider – father, sister, career, life...

The novel is a little longer. It will be suitable for those who can read and digest unconventional versions of romance.

Title? That is funny and exciting at the same time!
The novel is indeed about self-discovery as the author has herself mentioned in the introduction to the book here. Moreover, Mishti's decisions are seldom driven passively. She does pay heed to what Kabir says, right in the first chapter. However, she takes her time, keeps her space, and always ponders all the options before making any decision. And that makes the book a romance of a very different kind. Philosophical and intellectual? We can debate... however, it is surely readable for once. It will keep readers engaged and intrigued, not that excited though as the writing becomes too descriptive at times.
