"Pat did not believe in magic but he did believe in monsters."
Nearly all civilized society has become plagued with mental illness and the cries for a cure can be heard in every city, home, and street. When a solution is invented by the eccentric Owen Sherwood as a means to help his son Pat, people begin to hope for the future once again. But, peace is not long-lasting. The day that this new technology is unveiled to the public, a dark force takes the life of Pat's father and kidnaps his wife. Patrick Sherwood, along with the arrogant Dr. Clive Evers and anxious Harmony Latham, must determine if this new technology created a monster or merely opened the doorway for it to enter the world.
Imaginative and creepy. I personally found the pacing and editing to be a little off, but what I find off, others might find perfect. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, because this book deserves to be your next read. It has shocking plot twists and deep, relatable themes intertwined into the story such as second chances, redemption, and forgiveness. Ward has much to offer in this moving tale, and I look forward to reading more from this emerging author. Would I read more from this author? Yes. I score based on Title, Cover, Blurb, Plot, Characters, Editing, and Conclusion. My personal score is 7/10, or 4/5.
Not perfect, but I enjoyed it. There were definitely areas that could have used more editing, and a fair number of typos, but for a self-published book, I found myself impressed. Looking forward to reading the next book!
Truly amazing. I want every person I know to read this book! The twists in the story are incredible, Emilee is a talented writer. It’s difficult to find a Christian author that isn’t a romance. Though this has a bit of a love story, it’s more focused on mental health. Genuinely a fantastic book, you won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next!
I didn't really have expectations when going into this book, but even if I had high expectations it still would've been miles below what this book deserves. Emilee's world and character building is very beautifully executed. The pace of this book is phenomenal in my opinion, I never felt a lull in the story or experienced a point that was difficult for me to push through. It was actually very difficult for me to put it down, and I found myself up *very* late fighting sleep because I wanted to see what happened next. Emilee's characters were very well constructed and I found myself way too emotionally invested in their lives. Even the ones I wasn't necessarily fond of I felt empathy for. It made me happy when they were happy, and I found myself grieving when they grieved. Between the interesting subject matter, the diverse and well rounded set of characters, and the ability to draw so much emotion through her world and her words I believe this has become one of my favorite books. Beautifully done, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes books.
The themes of this book are gripping and timely. The concept of technological advances coinciding with rising anxiety rates and questions of privacy rights, in a near future that closely resembles our own present world, was neatly woven into the narrative and really makes the reader think. The story features a large cast of characters who end up coming together in interesting ways, and the twisty nature of the plot kept me turning the pages. There are a delicious number of spooky scenes as we explore the mysteries of what terrors the new tech might be unleashing. In parts, I was reminded of The Prestige with the technological tinkering producing ghastly results, and even Pet Sematary with… well, without getting into spoilers, let’s just say things that go away might sometimes come back. The book isn't necessarily horror or even sci-fi—maybe speculative fiction? Regardless of genre preferences, Consigned to Oblivion is definitely worth a read!
