Debi Gliori

She grew up as an only child in Glasgow, and when young began drawing and writing stories. She started writing children's books in 1976, and attended art school in Edinburgh from 1979 to 1984. She then received a travelling scholarship award to go to Milan, and worked as a freelance from 1984 onwards.
She is the author/illustrator of many books for children including Mr Bear, the winner of a Children's Book Award. She is best known for her black comedy Pure Dead series for older children, which display strong elements of family lives amid dark and fantasy-based plots.

It's bedtime for Little Owl and his younger brother, but just as his mom leans over to give him one final tuck and a peck on the cheek...
Little Owl was snuggled up with Mommy Owl sharing a bedtime story. It was late o'clock.
"NO," said Little Owl. "NO, NO, NO!"Little Owl does NOT want to go to bed.
He is NOT ready to sleep.
And so the bargaining begins - another story? A glass of water? A nightlight?
Mommy Owl takes this all in stride and helps her little one get the snuggly rest he needs.
This was a lovely little picture book!
The text had a cute story arc - as Little Owl learns about the other animals in the forest and as his mom tucks him into bed.
I thought the frog diversion and the hedgehog adventure were definitely my favorite bits.
The illustrations of this one were absolutely gorgeous. They had a great pallet and lots of lovely detail.
I'm a huge fan of the way the artist interpreted the text and really brought it to life.
All in all, this one gets a double-thumbs-up! So much fun!!

Май вече свикнахме да очакваме всяка есен издателство „Хермес“ да ни глези с поне по две нови красиви римувани картинни книги, илюстровани от художничката и Алисън Браун. Миналата година това бяха „Винаги ще съм до теб“ и „Правиш ме щастлив“ от Смрити Прасадам-Холс, които прекрасно продължиха традицията, положена година по-рано с „Ще те обичам ден и нощ” и „Винаги ще те обичам“. А ето ги и новите попълнения! „Време е за сън“ и „Първи ден в детската градина“ от Деби Глиори ни срещат със симпатично малко бухалче, което се изправя пред ситуации, с които всички деца трябва да се справят. My son loves penguins and owls so he was desperate to read this story.
The story is about a little owl who doesn't want to go to sleep. First he wants another story. Then:
'Little Owl's pillow was too lumpy.
Little Owl's quilt was too hot.
Little Owl's eyes refused to stay shut'
We could both totally relate to this story. These are all the things my toddler says to me every night so it was very funny to see Little Owl having the same problems!! I hope I am as patient as Mummy Owl. Luckily she finds a great way to get her little owl to sleep by the end of the book.
We loved this story so much we have now bought the rest of the series!

If you've read Little Owl picture books before, you'll be prepared for this one.
This time, the story's about the little boy-child's unwillingness to go to sleep. Once again, his Mommy Owl spoils him like crazy.
If you find this adorb, unlike me, you're more the intended reader for this story. On your behalf, FIVE STARS.
To me, this book reads like a dish of sugar-flavored ice cream, slathered in sugar-flavored syrup, with fluffy-and-sweetened whipped cream on top. But hey, it takes all kinds to make a world of Goodreaders.

I was sent this book by the publisher.
This is a cute book that I think most parents, and in my case grandparents, can relate too. Little Owl pulls all of the same tricks kids have been pulling since the beginning of time to stay up later. Little Owl is really just to excited to sleep, but after some reassuring and and yet another story sleep finally comes. This is a cute book that I think my grandkids will enjoy.

Add this to the list of picture books about adorable little animals who are reluctant to go to sleep. Mommy Owl is incredibly patient and imaginative in her responses to Little Owl's stalling tactics. Although a little longer than Anna Dewdney's Llama Llama Red Pajama, this will appeal to the same readers looking for cozy bedtime stories.

Little Owl cant get to sleep and Mummy Owl tells little owl magical little stories to help him. Beautiful illustrations and the stories told my mummy owl were super sweet - she definitely has more patience than me 😂

It's an owl book so of course Audrey loved it.
And adults will definitely relate to the not wanting to go to bed. The excuses with going to bed. The excitement over someone's impending arrival. It made me smile. It's just wordier than I wanted it to be.

Обаче в текста има някои дразнещи неща, не знам дали са се получили при превода, или и в оригинал са така. Имаше фраза от рода на: „Млъкни и заспивай!“, което ми звучи грубо като израз.

Spre deosebire de oamenii mari, sau adulți, așa cum mai sunt ei numiți, Bufnițel nu vrea să facă nani. Majoritatea adulților pe care îi cunosc ar cam vrea să facă nani dar au foarte multă treabă și nu au când, așa că dorm de-a-n picioarelea și doar se prefac că nu le e somn, ca să pară activi în societate sau la locul de muncă.
Mama Bufniță, la fel ca multe alte mămici din lumea întreagă, dorește ca toată lumea care nu este adultă să meargă la culcare atunci când se apropie Ora De Culcare. Nu se știe cine a hotărât când anume începe oficial această Oră De Culcare, dar este de la sine înțeles că Bufnițel nu a fost de față atunci când s-a stabilit această Oră De Culcare, pentru că dacă ar fi fost, s-ar fi ridicat în picioare și ar fi spus răspicat că el nu este de acord și că toți copiii ar trebui lăsați să facă nani doar atunci când vor ei să facă nani, și asta doar în situația absurdă în care ei chiar ar dori să facă nani.
Adulții îi pun pe copii să facă tot felul de lucruri ciudate, cum ar fi să meargă la școală și să stea în bancă ore în șir, să învețe tabla înmulțirii pe de rost, să stea în casă și să facă temele, să pună în picioare ciorăpei groși atunci când lumea pretinde că s-a făcut frig, să spună frumos o poezie atunci când familia e în vizită pe la vreo rudă ca să vadă ruda respectivă cât de studios este copilul, ce mai, o mulțime de lucruri îngrozitoare cu care adulții îi chinuie pe cei mici cât e ziua de lungă.
Și taman când toate aceste lucruri cumplite se termină și ar trebui să înceapă joaca și distracția, iată că sosește această așa-zisă Oră De Culcare care te împinge cu forța în pat și te pune să închizi ochii și să faci nani.
Din fericire, Bufnițel este pregătit pentru acest moment înfiorător și are o mulțime de strategii bine puse la punct prin care poate sta în pat fără să adoarmă. Singura problemă care apare de fiecare dată (și pe care copiii sunt invitați să o rezolve pe cât de repede se poate, după ce vor citi și ei această carte) este aceea că în timp ce se gândește la toate aceste metode extraordinare de combatere a somnului, Bufnițel adoarme mereu buștean...

It's bedtime for Little Owl, but he can't seem to fall asleep. He's quite restless, and no matter how many bedtime stories Mama Owl reads to him, he just can't sleep. Mama Owl finally convinces him that the sooner he falls asleep, the faster tomorrow will arrive.
