When you desperately need a fake boyfriend for your sister's wedding, who do you call? Obviously, anyone other than your hot, arrogant, and insufferable work rival... Oops.
There’s a six-foot-two fortress I battle every day, gladiator-style. He pretends to be me, stealing clients. I hack his calendar, deleting appointments. Our fighting is filthy.
We're competing for a huge bonus that I will win, but when I make the mistake of telling my meddling family about my new (non-existent) boyfriend, Satan suddenly offers to help.
He's up to something, but I’ve got no other choice.
Well, he’s kissing me dizzy in front of guests. I’m sitting on his lap on a party bus. There’s only one bed, and he's shielding me from all my rude, nosy relatives.
I know it's all fake but this feels way too real.
Come Monday I can’t forget we’re at war again, no matter how sweet this charade feels.
✓ Rivals to lovers ✓ Fake dating ✓ Hilarious banter ✓ Slow delicious burn ✓ Forced proximity ✓ Good girl
🌷𝑻𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒔: - enemies to lovers - work rivals - cute romance - fake dating - slow burn - forced proximity
જ⁀➴ This book really hits the spot! The work setting feels genuine, and the characters, Reema and Jake, are a blast to follow. They each have their own reasons for bending the rules a bit in pursuit of a work bonus. The story takes an interesting turn when Jake becomes Reema's fake date for her sister's wedding, leading to some delightful forced proximity. Watching their relationship evolve as they come to care for each other is heartwarming. It's a charming, humorous, and cozy read that I highly recommend!
You know when the rivals to lovers were never really rivals? That’s not Jake and Reema. These two are genuinely competing against each other at work and pull stunt after stunt after stunt to get ahead of the other & the banter because of it? 😮💨
Then when Reema needs a boyfriend to bring home to her sister’s wedding two years after her divorce? Enter Jake who’s just looking for another win over Reema but as the days unfold, and they let their walls down, Jake and Reema sweep you right off your feet. But, the banter and the ribbing is never left behind.
If you like genuine rivals to lovers, fake dating, and workplace romance, this is a must read.
Thank you to the author for access to an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you Sookh Kaur for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.✨
I've read a first ever Punjabi in a romance novel and I totally loved it. ❤️ This book is a slow burn read and from a dual POV and it delivers some wonderfully spicy scenes 🤭 The characters are fun, witty and charming. It was really nice to see a bold female MC. Trust me, if you're an Indian woman and struggling in your life, you'll relate a lot with her. The dialogues, the banter between them, everything was just so perfect. If you're in the mood for a spicy Indian romance, 'The Fake Dating War' is a must-read.
Oh wow. This is the first book in a while that made me feel things so deeply. I love absolutely every single thing about it. I have literally zero complaints. Reema and Jake are such real, perfectly imperfect human beings, and that just makes the story even better! For all that's holy add this book to your tbr and mark your calendars for May 14th!!!!
thank you so incredibly much Sookh for giving me the absolute pleasure of reading your book before it comes out!
This was such a cute romcom book! I am so happy I was able to get the opportunity to read and enjoy it. The characters were so lovable- especially Jake. My man knew he wanted Reema and fought for the right to literally just love her. Reema did get on my nerves a few times during this book but ma’am she just needed some time to re-discover herself and know she is worth loving to the moon and back. Alsooooo- who knew Jake would have a teacher/ spreadsheet kink?!! Color me pleasantly surprised! This book had me giggling and kicking my feet. The banter was bantering and the character growth was growing. I loved the culture and the way Jake just seemed to embrace anything thrown at him. I need a Jake ASAP please @sookhkaur ?
Definitely a book I think everyone should read at least once in their life and if you want a copy, you can just get it here!! https://mybook.to/tfdw
This book was Amazing! I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book. I loved everything about this book. The romance was swoon-worthy, the banter was witty, and the drama was so good. Reema and Jake's chemistry was off the charts, and I couldn't help but root for them. Everything was perfect. And the wedding, It made me nostalgic with all the nosy relatives, lavish parties, and tons of drama. ✨ Overall, it was an amazing read that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a good romance. 💫
My first time reading from this author 🤓 I knew once I started giggling in the first few chapters that this was going to be a fun read! It was interesting learning about Indian weddings as well. This book has pretty detailed spice but I wasn’t mad at it 🤪 3.75💫
3.75⭐️ “We don’t like to lose.” “We don’t.” “So let’s not lose at this,” “It could explode.” “Let it. I’d rather die than go through this fucking week without you again.”
first and foremost thank you so much for the ARC in exchange of an honest review 💕 . this is now the 3rd book of sookh kaur that i have read and i have to say that i very much enjoy her writing style and the tropes that she writes, they are so relatable and that makes me connect with the characters so much more and understand them better . after everything that reema went through, i am truly amazed how she pulled herself back and worked on herself and yes her methods were wrong so many times but what clearly matters is that she did not think of herself as a victim but she took the responsibility of her choices and did everything to become a better person so she wouldn’t repeat them..i felt so sorry for her at times where she felt like that she couldn’t talk to anyone around her about her problems and that she had to face them alone but i am so proud of her for making it out in the end..
“Through all this, you get to know yourself better. And you realize it’s you and this body in this life together. And you start respecting it and giving no fucks, and you stop being so uncertain about making demands.“
i absolutely loved the rivalry aspect.. they completed each other so well and their banter was so good and needed for their relationship to evolve.. the way we got to see how jake began to see her in a different light throughout that weekend was one of my favorite part.. i just love them both together and the way the supported each other in the end.. even though the fight/breakup irritated me in the end a bit i very much loved the way they dealt with it and came out stronger because of it.. . overall, i really enjoyed this book and connected with the characters on such a great level that the reading process was so good and there were so many aspects where i felt like that sookh had read my mind…
„We talk about the caretaking label slapped on all of us. How we’re so pressured to fix everything, from basic life needs (someone is hungry? guess you have to cook for them) to the fun minefield of understanding emotionally constipated men (yes, pulling from my Doctorate in grunting and moody silences, I know what is wrong with you!).“ like for example this, i relate so damn much with this and cannot wait to get into more books from sookh kaur.. thank you again 💕
Thank you so much to the author Sookh Kaur for providing me with an ARC copy of this book and giving me the chance to read and review it!
I really enjoyed this book!! This was such a quick and easy fake dating romance to read. Jake and Reema are office rivals which creates such amazing tension! They both think the other leads this perfect life but really they are each struggling with their own challenges.
I really love that their way of flirting is by insulting each other, this leads to some very funny and playful banter. Their romance seems very organic and not forced at all.
It is always fun to read about very strong and determined female main characters who are very good at their jobs and have a drive to succeed. It’s also refreshing to see how much Jake, respects Reema and even in his POV is constantly in awe of her skills.
"I should punish you." "Why?" I stammer. "For making me so desperate for your crumbs."
🌟🌟🌟🌟
This book! It was sooo cute, full of culture, and full of character growth ✨
We follow Reema Patel, a 35-year old divorcee who's life revolves around work and clearing off the debt from her ex. She had mentioned to her family she was dating someone to get them off her back and now she's attending her sister's wedding. Which means she needs a date for it and is running out of time.
Jake Coleman is her work rival. They're fighting for an incentive at work and Reema is so far in the lead, it must infuriate him. Yet, out of nowhere, he's offered to be her wedding date.
I enjoyed their story sooo much and Coleman is just *chefs kiss~
Enemies to lovers, fake dating at a wedding party, forced proximity, slow burn, all the good tropes 🤩
Thank you to Sookh Kaur for the free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review 🩷
This book is Hating Game meets Wedding Season (but only one wedding). Reema has a bit of a secret and in order to keep it she's working herself into the ground (literally). Her work nemesis is competitive so they both have created a little game of who's better. A fake boyfriend at her sister's wedding complicates the rivalry and starts unraveling her white lies. They were some funny moments mixed in with the daily pressure to maintain a version of yourself. For Jake it was his childhood home while Reema wanted to appear being ok. I love the family and friends in this book, they added to the charm.
4⭐️ Reema is a smart and driven FMC and Jake is a witty and charming MMC. They are office rivals, both going through personal struggles & they are fighting for a huge bonus. When Reema needs a date to her sister’s lavish wedding, Jake steps in. Over the wedding week, both characters started letting their walls down and letting one another in. The tension and slow-burn was perfect and the banter had me giggling 👏🏼
Thank you Sookh Kaur for gifting me an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
•Office rivals to lovers •Fake dating •Slow-burn •Witty banter •Dual POV
Reema is such an adorable and likable character. She is such a relatable character, sometimes you will feel secondhand embarrassment caused by her. The fact that both main characters refer to one another by last names, shows what sort of banter is in-store for you. Enemies to lovers. Office romance. Forced proximity. Fake dating. Recommend to all romance readers.
Thank you to the author, Sookh Kaur for reaching out and offering me the opportunity to ARC read.
This was such a lovely story with just the right amount of tension, spice, and love. I also appreciated how well the author dealt with the MC’s emotional baggage and didn’t lay it on another person to “fix”
This was SUCH a great novel! Not just because of the romance which was awesome but honestly because how relatable Reema is to me and how she touches upon all the issues modern say southeast Asian women face with their families ago it marriage and children and the shame that comes with “failing” at it. It really resonated with me and I felt such a deep connection to the storyline. Super awesome read!
This gave me The Spanish Love Deception vibes but better in a way? I enjoyed it much more, one star more, maybe because we have the MMC POV in this onr and you read when it starts to change and with Armas' it was a bit of a mystery and it was also good but I do so love me some dual pov lol Loved the characters and how they were fleshed out with each having their own problems. Enjoyed also the description of an Indian wedding, it is really posh, interest and different, and could relate to some expectations they portrayed because being a latina is in some ways the same.
Maybe I'll read more of Kaur's books in the future.
Definitely for fans of "the hating game" and office romance's.
Reema is 35, divorced and living in someone's lounge. She lost everything in a span of 2 years. The only thing that keeps her going is the incentive bonus she is aiming for at work. She CANNOT let Coleman win (Office Rivalry) she NEEDS this money to start over, it is hers - there is no other way.
Jake has sat across from Patel for years now, their competition is unmatched and although they have been called into HR a few times for crossing the line - the company's business is benefitting from their competition and pushing each other to be better, to win. Patel cannot get that bonus, he needs to buy his mother's house back after finding out they never owned it.
Reema's sister is getting married - she is NOT in the mood to be bombarded with questions of relationships and kids, so she needs a date - NOW. The search for a fake boyfriend isn't exactly going as she hoped - and on the last night, in a random turn of events - COLEMAN ends up being the chosen one lol
The family drama is real in this one, big family, overbearing aunts and uncles, multiple celebrations, the sneaking around so that they remain APART, trying to pretend to be madly in love and dating for the past 6 months, the wedding festivities and nosey family members - was all just a blast and made it such a fun read.
I absolutely LOVED Leo and Reema's friendship and I LOVED the sisterly bond between Reema and Esha. The love in this book can be felt.
The banter is so good lol - It had me a laughing a few times.
I love when an author can write a book that feels light and funny yet discuss real issues and personal growth in-between.
I fell in love with these two, and to be honest with the whole damn cast of characters.
This is an absolute must read for everyone who wants to giggle scream cry and kick their feet at a romance... WHO DOESN'T?!!?
I think Sookh Kaur is so fricking talented and has given such special and equal care and voice to the 2 main characters of this book, Reema and Jake. They felt so real and I felt them struggling with their respective familial/financial challenges throughout the book, made me that much more compassionate and invested in their outcomes both separately and together.
The CHEMISTRYYYYY between Jake and Reema was truly unmatched, off the charts, had me furiously snapping my kindle shut every once in a while because I was OVERCOME with emotions and enjoyment lol.
I think the rivals to lovers trope is not an easy one to write well, but Kaur did it to perfection. The journey from Jake and Reema being each other's biggest haters to greatest supporters was so funny and heartfelt. The inner dialogue and witty banter is so good. The week-long Indian wedding setting is so good. The declarations of love we get in the conclusion are SO GOOD. I will be reading all of Sookh Kaur's books now and in the future, this type of witty, snappy, inclusive, uplifting romance is exactly what the genre needs. 2 things I can't applaud enough in this story; the hilarity and authenticity <3
(This review is written based off an ARC provided by the author.)
A beautiful love story of two arresting protagonists that still stays with us long after the narrative ended.
The love and yearning of both characters feels so real and palpable.
Ms Kaur is a prolific talent and shall pave the way for more authors sharing the multi-cultural romance narrative between a female of Punjabi descent - men of caucasian heritage.
The integral point would be to ensure the punjabi women in future novels are held in high regard. No drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse.
So I was a bit hesitant to read this book because it seemed like the brown version of the “Spanish Love Deception’ and I really loved that book so I didn’t want to ruin its memory? That said, I enjoyed this. Being Indian myself, it was nice to see the culture represented through the wedding and also family toxicity. I liked Reema and Jake enough but felt like it was trying too hard to make them seem agressive ? I know its enemies to lovers but it felt kind of off for some reason. Like they had good reason to be enemies but there was no secret pining there like other stories I’ve read so the romance felt forced when it first took off because there was no chemistry for me. Otherwise, once they did get together it was sweet. The third act breakup was predictable so lost a bit of the effect for me but both characters realised their wrongdoings and owned up to it.
Overall, an enjoyable enemies to lovers with an emphasis on spice or atleast thinking of spice. Though I will admit it was the perfect amount of spice where it’s there but not in your face in every chapter.
This was an ARC book, but I am happily giving my review! I love reading indie author’s work. Especially when it’s this good. They deserve all the love.
I adored this book. It was such a fun read. Both of the MCs are very likable. It was fun to watch their fighting turn into love. As suggested by the title, there is fake dating. This is my new favorite trope, if you can’t tell by my recent reads 😂. The whole premise revolves around a huge Indian wedding. Which was just so much fun! I loved the huge family dynamic. It made me laugh. It also made me cry. It is such a story of growth!!
Go read this book. You won’t regret it!
“I’m begging for the privilege of spoiling you.”
“And whatever you don’t want, you’re not getting. Hate flowers? I hate flowers, too. Tell me everything you don’t want, I’ll make it go away. And then—tell me everything you love, and I’ll shower you with it.”
Tropes: - Rivals To Lovers - Fake Dating - Dual POV - Workplace Romance - He Falls First - Office Rivals - Close Proximity - Witty Banter - Last Names As Pet Names - Big Indian Wedding
Some Things I Liked/Loved: - Loved the rivalry going on between them with all the witty banter, and don’t even get me started on them referring to each other by their last names. - I liked how there was never a dull moment while reading this book, the book always had something going on. - I also loved how Jake was always protecting Reema, even when it was only peoples words he was protecting her from and the way he always wanted to take care of her was just so sweet.
Some Things I Didn’t Like: - Nothing I have nothing bad to say.
This was my first novel by Sookh Kaur and I am obsessed! Her characters are endearing, fun, full of banter and most importantly, relatable. I absolutely loved the lavish Indian- Punjabi wedding traditions and events that took place with the descriptions and how the family would mingle into Reema’s and Jake’s relationship. I love office rivals, enemies to lovers and fake dating tropes and this novel delivered! I enjoyed the dual POVs and those spicy scenes delivered!
I will definitely be reading more of Sookh Kaur’s novels and I think you should too!
I loved this book, going into it, I thought it was going to be hallmarky, but it was just so good. The main plot is in the name of course, but it was well written and the author did a really good job at keeping my attention. There are plot twists, dilemmas, humor, love and romance, all of it. It is written from the 2 povs of the main characters and it was so nice to compare and be able to see what each character was thinking or feeling during situations. Overall this was a really cute romance read and I totally recommend to any romance reader, or for a good book to get you out of that reading slump :)
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I absolutely love everything about this romance story and the author's writing style! The chemistry was on fire. The jokes were hilarious and had me audibly laughing. The emotion's...had me tearing up. I loved learning about the culture of Indian weddings and their clothing attire. I loved the ending. Just everything I could ever ask for in a romance was in this story. Enemies to lovers, workplace rivals, forced proximity, fake dating, family drama, etc etc.
Highly recommend reading when this comes out May 14th. Thank you Booksirens for an arc copy, all opinions are my own.
Thank you to the author for sending me this as an ARC! Following this story, dual POV, was really fun. We get to know Reema and Jake better and we understand where their motivation comes from 🫶🏼 I could definetly relate to Reema and her upbringing as a POC and it was just wonderful to go on this journey of healing with her. If you are searching for an adult romance, enemy to lovers and self discovery stories, you must read this one!
3.5/5 This was a SPICY 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️ bantery, fun read about two rival coworkers competing for a big bonus that will change both of their lives. But what happens when Reema, our FMC, needs a date to her sister’s extravagant Indian wedding?! Read to find out!
I loved the back story of the FMC, it was complex and real as she learned to open up again to the opportunities and relationships placed before her! Also the banter gave me butterflies!
I tore through this book in one day, such an addictive read! The characters are funny and imperfect, the slow burn is hot, the spicy scenes are excellent, and although I really enjoyed the love story I think what Kaur does best is writing these lovely authentic friendships. Another great read from this author!
