There's no way that this was a Luna Mason book...
I've been reading all her books for a while now and this book just wasn't it.
With so many plot holes and bloody hell where was the chemistry?

It's really hard to review this book without spoiling anything that can give the whole plot away.
This is a heavy book to get through. Jax is such a complex character who is struggling after the events from Detained where he lost his best friend and ''brother''. That loss is still felt everyday by Jax, and the impact will never truly go away for him. When you read his POV and see how much Kai meant to him, you understand his feelings about being lost.
At the end of Detained we see Jax reveal that he slept with his brother’s wife and that in itself was an insane declaration but who would have thought the story behind it all was even crazier?
Sofia is set to marry Jax's brother, but things do not go as planned and things are forever changed that day. She meets Jax and they spend the night together both knowing it cannot be anything more. All that I will say is that do not feel bad for the brother.
Things are never as they seem and that night haunts both of them for different reasons. One lucky (or unlucky) chance brings them back together, but the past is never far behind for either of them.
There is one particular character (not the obvious villain) I had so much hatred for. Their behavior and constant belittling or resentment was unjustified, and I felt NO sympathy for them when it all was revealed.
The banter between the new characters (Nikolai, Alexei, Lara, Mikhail) was a lot of fun and I cannot wait for their books within this series.
The love and chemistry between our MC's were off the charts. You just know they were meant to be together. I loved their moments and even when things were not sunny and rainbows, they made sense. There was a balance they each brought to the other.
Jax's struggles in this book are a hard pill to swallow and I advise everyone to take the SW/TW's seriously and check our Luna's note in the beginning of the book.
Just remember that not all that happens in this book is what it seems and Jax deserves the benefit of the doubt because without Luna's comment about a particular moment, I would have thrown this book (well my kindle) out the window.

Excuse me!!! This was so good, I couldn’t put it down. This is my first Luna Mason book and definitely not my last. I was hooked right from the beginning and Jax is legit *perfection*
This was a rollercoaster of a book but I was honestly so engaged and interested about what was going to happen next! The ending chapters legit crushed my soul 😭😭 def check trigger warnings!
The spice in this HOLY EFFIN SHIT 🥵🥵🥵 I was not expecting that but phew I absolutely loved it.

Wtf is this? I’m only on page 23 and some guy just shows up outta nowhere claiming to be a long lost half brother, hands over a wedding invite and the MMC is like “yeah that’s my brother, guess I’ll go to the wedding”

God I really was enjoying this in the beginning, the plot was spicy and fast paced, then suddenly it was babies and baby mommas, car seats and cocaine, diapers and drug lords.

WOW. I‘m in love with Sofia and Jax.
Storyline: 〰️
I did not expect the way this book went in the beginning. Sofias little “secret“ suprised me in a good way and made this storyline so wholesome since it was the perfect setting to show the character of both protagonists. Also really liked that we get a dual POV and that the chapters aren’t too long, so it feels like flying through the book.

My fav thing about this book were definitely the characters. I love strong FMCs and Sofia is the definition of a baddie. Everything she’s been through in life, how she acts and how she’s showing her dominant side with Jax…ufff. And Jax definitely made me delulu for all real-life men. The words he says, how he treats Sofia and also once he found out about Sofias “secret” secret: LOVE HIM. Luna Mason outdid herself with writing these characters. 🙌🏼

The spice was phenomenal. At first I’ve been scared that there might be too many pointless spicy scenes but that definitely wasn’t the case. And what I loved the most is that both protagonist are equals when it comes to the spice. So it’s not the typical: the MMC dominates the FMC.
This was my first book by Luna Mason and I can’t wait to read the other books from the series.

⬤ This book was an absolute standout, especially for how it tackles men's mental health—a topic that's often overlooked in today's society. Now that I have read this I have a whole new perspective on how important these conversations are. Reading this felt like a breath of fresh air.
⬤ The dedication alone had me hooked, and I absolutely loved the dynamic between Jax and Sofia. Sofia stepping up when she knew something was wrong really resonated with me. The banter and relationships between Niki, Alexei, and Jax were so well done; I found myself laughing out loud more than once.
⬤ Also the spicy scenes were a highlight too—Luna knows how to write some seriously captivating moments. The vibrating tongue ring and motorcycle sex scenes? Yes, please!
⬤ I really enjoyed this (even though I cried) I still can't wait for the next book!

This is a long review and has Spoilers. This was such a beautiful book that I wanted to take all the time to share why you should read this book!

this book was a beautiful portrait of a tortured mind and heart, and the journey he goes through to come up on the other side of the darkness he experiences. The MMC Jax, the King of Chaos, battles with his mental health . He is a successful boxer in the professional and underground arena. He is also in the Russian Mafia. His story is about the pain and grief he is riddled with after losing his best friend Kai.
Jax feels guilty for Kai's death, he feels responsible, because he was not able to save him. he believes it should have been him, as though Kai deserved to live, and he didn't.
"It hurst so fucking bad, Kai. I don't want to leave you here". My knees land in the soft mud, soaking through my pants. "See you on the other side, Kai. I hope i make you proud".
Jax is tortured by all the loses in his life, his mother for abandoning him, his father's death.... he channels his pain and sadness into his boxing
"It's been hard not to hold back in the fights. Channeling the pain and emptiness in my chest into every punch seems to help for a little while"
He is approached by a man who tells him he's his brother , Brody- they share a mother - and invites him to his wedding, hoping to build a relationship with him. Jax is skeptical, however at the last minute decides to go.
Sofia is Brody's fiancé and is anxious about their wedding. she feels Brody has been distant lately and he's been working late nights.....
At the reception, the best man drops a bomb - Brody has been sleeping with his fiancé, essentially, cheating on Sofia for the last several months.
Sofia is enraged and runs out of the reception, out the door and down the road.... just as Jax arrives on his motorcycle.
He is instantly taken by her beauty and is curious what her story is. he assumes correctly that this is his new sister-in-law but does not tell her.
They go back to his penthouse and have an explosive steamy night (and morning) together.
Jax is scheduled to leave for his new job in las Vegas the next day and Sofia will start a new life without her new husband.

Sofia is a mother to an adorable 1-year old, Maeve, who has the cutest curly hair, and according to Sofia, looks just like her daddy - Jax.
Jax is working in Las Vegas of Mikhail, the leader of the Russian Mafia faction in Las Vegas. He works alongside his friends, Nikolai and Alexei.
Brody reappears in Jax's life, inviting him to his bachelor party - he's getting married again to a new woman.
Against Jax's better judgement he agrees to go.
Sofia moves to Las Vegas with her (very toxic) best friend, Anna and begins to work as a stripper to help make ends meet.
Jax cannot believe that he's finally reunited with Sofia hi s Trigrista.... he has not stopped thinking about her, hasn't been with another woman since her, and she's here. dancing for men dancing for Brody's bachelor party.
Jax and Sofia attempt a relationship, but Jax's self-doubt and self-deprecation makes him feel he's not worthy of her love and affections but he is committed to making this work.
"Everyone around me dies. what if I can't protect her? what if me being in her life ruins it, like it does for everyone else? i can't do that to her...."
Sofia doesn't tell Jax about his daughter as she isn't sure she can trust him with her heart, or trust that he won't abandon them because it's complicated.
Jax and Sofia's steamy, intense passion picks up where it left off - it's INTENSE. they devour each other. he's her good boy and she's his alter he worships.
Sofia realizes it's time to tell Jax about Maeve. He immediately falls in love with his baby girl, his Tigrenok but quickly spirals in his thoughts about how unworthy he is to be her father, how it's only a matter of time before he screws things up.
With the help of his grumpy friend, Nikolai, he steps up and shows up and becomes the loving father everyone else knew he'd be.
He falls deeply and madly in love with her and his daughter - his family.
"It's like without her, I can't breathe. She is the one who anchors me, gives me a reason to claw my way out of the dark. When i'm with her, the world is calm. It's like everything stops screaming inside my mind."
while all this is happening, Brody, a member and the son of the leader of the Reapers MC, has an agenda of his own. he wants to get rid of Jax while helping the Reapers take back Las Vegas.
In an attempt to really break Jax and Sofia, Brody sets it up so that Jax is drugged and wakes up the next morning in bed with a female stranger.
Jax is convinced he slept with her but cannot remember anything after taking the scotch from the waitress.
this destroys him and it destroys his relationship with Sofia.
"I love you, Sofia. You complete me in ways i never realized I was missing. You are everything. I live for you. I will die for you. You are, and always will be, the perfect in the midst of my chaos."
Jax's mental health spirals out of control. his depression takes him to very dark places, so dark that he convinces himself that everyone would be better off without him.

Jax inner voice tells him he is a disgusting, unlovable, unworthy, awful person. that everything he touches turns to dirt.
"... I want to scream. I want this to stop. I need this to end. I can't control it anymore. It's festering inside me, growing and taking me over."
Luna Mason did an incredible job of shinning a light on men's mental health. With compassion and respect, she brought attention to the devastating reality that one man dies by suicide every 13.7 minutes in the US.
Social constructs have us believe that men need to be tough, brave, no weak. That men should not share their feelings, or cry. Boys are taught early that they need to "shake it off", "man up", be tough". it is no wonder then that many men report that it can be difficult for them to open up and show their emotions, to ask for help....
"I'm a man. I should be stronger than this. I shouldn't feel so weak all the time. I'm supposed to protect you and Maeve, not be like this. You shouldn't have to watch me crumble apart and put me back together. I'm weak and I don't know how to make it stop."
Sofia's heart is shattered and does not know how their relationship will survive him cheating, however she knows that she cannot survive without him. her love for him is greater than anything else, and matters more than anything.
"You are not weak, Jax. You are so incredibly brave. You've battled this for so long on your own. You put everyone else first before yourself. You're an amazing man. We can find the best way for you to heal, baby. There is a way through..."
There is a stigma around men's mental health that needs to change.
Sofia has a nagging feeling that something is not right about how Jax woke up the morning after his alleged cheating incident. she does some digging and is relieved to learn the truth.
together, they fight Jax demons and focus on their future and their little family.
Jax is living in the light, but is aware that the darkness can creep back and so he is committed to work through his struggles and make the changes to live life worth living.

In an attempt to really break Jax and Sofia, Brody sets it up so that Jax is drugged and wakes up the next morning in bed with a female stranger.
Jax is convinced he slept with her but cannot remember anything after taking the scotch from the waitress.
this destroys him and it destroys his relationship with Sofia.

Jax's mental health spirals out of control. his depression takes him to very dark places, so dark that he convinces himself that everyone would be better off without him.

Luna Mason did an incredible job of shinning a light on men's mental health. With compassion and respect, she brought attention to the devastating reality that one man dies by suicide every 13.7 minutes in the US.
Social constructs have us believe that men need to be tough, brave, no weak. That men should not share their feelings, or cry. Boys are taught early that they need to "shake it off", "man up", be tough". it is no wonder then that many men report that it can be difficult for them to open up and show their emotions, to ask for help....
"I'm a man. I should be stronger than this. I shouldn't feel so weak all the time. I'm supposed to protect you and Maeve, not be like this. You shouldn't have to watch me crumble apart and put me back together. I'm weak and I don't know how to make it stop."
Sofia's heart is shattered and does not know how their relationship will survive him cheating, however she knows that she cannot survive without him. her love for him is greater than anything else, and matters more than anything.
"You are not weak, Jax. You are so incredibly brave. You've battled this for so long on your own. You put everyone else first before yourself. You're an amazing man. We can find the best way for you to heal, baby. There is a way through..."
There is a stigma around men's mental health that needs to change.
Sofia has a nagging feeling that something is not right about how Jax woke up the morning after his alleged cheating incident. she does some digging and is relieved to learn the truth.
together, they fight Jax demons and focus on their future and their little family.
Jax is living in the light, but is aware that the darkness can creep back and so he is committed to work through his struggles and make the changes to live life worth living.

✦ Sophia Garcia: my girl was a non damsel-in-distress damsel-in-distress 🤡. make of this whatever you will. did i hate her? no. did i like her? no. did i feel bad for her? yes. did i root for her? now i didnt feel that bad. the thing is, she had the potential to be a good and strong character in the beginning, but somewhere along the line, she sort of fell flat. i liked her. but i didnt connect with her. felt way too one dimensional and stupid. but i did love the fact how she never gave up on jax and was a good mother to their kid, maeve.
✦ Jax Carter: this man is a rabid golden retriever. yes. sounds weird but let me explain. he thrives on adrenaline and loves to beat the shit out of people but at the same time he’s honestly a pretty decent and dare i say, sweet guy. to the people he loves at least. the way he always took care of sofia and maeve and was the biggest supporter of sofia in her career. and also a man who begs me to use his money as much as possible for my needs and even promises to reward me for it? sign me tf up!
but mostly, i liked the fact, that unlike sofia, jax actually had dimensions. he was dealing with (tw: su!c!d@l) thoughts due to the d3@th of his best friend and we can see his struggle with mental health throughout the book. in fact, i truly felt bad for him during multiple ocassions. plus, his character development was quite well-rounded by the end of the book as we can see him taking conscious efforts by taking therapy and opening up to sofia.

don’t care. at all. it’s funny how little i cared about anything in this book lmfao. including their stupid insta lust romance. the only thing i loved about their romance was how wholesome it was. and the smut was pretty good too. it wasn’t phenomenal but i absolutely loved the fact how both sofia and jax took turns in dominating each other. it was a break from the conventional route of fmcs being the only submissive ones. so i liked that.
the dirty talk, again, was nothing phenomenal but it was still pretty good.

there’s hardly a plot in this novel. the majority of the book is revolving around the pointless cat and mouse game between them and then them constantly fucking (a lot). it gets repetitive after a while and i honestly skimmed through the pages for a couple of chapters because nothing really happens in the story apart from sex between the mcs, random gang wars between his and his half-brother’s (sofia’s ex-husband) gangs, weird talks about everyone having sex, then back to the mcs having sex again.

it was only from the 70% mark that everything went downhill so rapidly. everything happened all at once and while it was messy, i did eat it up because i love drama. but the ending was pretty anticlimactic. i expected more action and brutality from jax for his revenge (considering the image that had been portrayed throughout the book) but it was barely a chapter. like what the hell? the damage that was done to him and sofia was A LOT and in exchange for that the punishment that the perpetrators received was pretty quick.
it is probably because i am used to my mmcs scheming elaborate revenge plans to destroy their enemies, that i didn’t feel anything for the ending of this one. anyways, this was an okay read but definitely would debate returning to this series.

THIS BOOK. This. Book. I am speechless. Luna started off this new series with an absolute BANGER. This was my first read by her & I am blown away. I can’t wait to go back & read the rest of her backlist & I’m already dying for book two in this series to release.
This book had a little bit of everything. Some dark elements, good banter, romance, THE SPICE?! Unreal. I felt all the feels with this one. There were parts that made me swoon but also parts that made my stomach drop and the tears start flowing. It’s definitely a heavier read so be sure to check trigger warnings! I’ll be thinking about this book for a good long while.

Before reading a book by a new author to me I read a lot of reviews ( I’ve got angry often) but still I didn’t read any of them mention the plot twist soooo big that it’s in the book!
Spoilers!!!
He is the perfect boyfriend, the perfect man, he is safe and so romantic! until he isn’t anymore…
At some point he needs some space and goes to a ride alone, he goes to a bar and went drugged ( he doesn’t know that but the reader can sense it) he wakes up naked and next to a blonde who says they were very intimate and had sex… He goes to heroine and is upfront and too harsh about what happened and left…
I didn’t like how he reacted, I feel like he never grovel or try to win her back, he is sorry about himself and left her on her own…
Actually, he very upset about what he did and started to spiral…
Nothing happened with that woman but heroine forgave him before they knew that!
I’ll read the next books because when they were in love, the book was very romantic and hot,

Jax and Sofias story is definitely something else. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙄 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩.
First of all, I love Jax and Alexeis relationship.
Alexei is an unhinged 𝗠𝗙 and I love it. He had me laughing almost every single time he opened his mouth.
Jax is such a sweet man, battling his demons. But finds his anchor and his place within Sofia. Their chemistry and how in tune they were with each other was magnificent.

My heart broke for Jax and how he spiralled down into the darkness over how his depression and illness took over. I felt his pain and his demons so incredibly much. It was raw, and real.

4.5 stars... I keep flipping between 4 or 5 so 4.5 will have to do.
Fast paced and spicy. I didn’t love a secret that came around 2 years later, but the rest of the story line was fantastic.
I really enjoyed the playlist and song prompts. It made the book more of an experience and set the tones.
I feel like everyone deserves a person that loves like Jax.
Check the triggers. There is some heavy ish around 65-70.

It’s been a long time since I’ve cried so heavily over a book. Happy and sad tears have been shed after finishing this INCREDIBLE book! Luna took a subject that is so rarely talked about and shaped it into one of her best works yet. The character development of not only Sofia but, Jax… wow! The depths to these characters was incredible and their chemistry was undeniable and oh so spicy! The main storyline focusing on Jax’s mental health, him finally accepting who he is , and finally processing through his grief was so powerful. A glimpse into the Vegas syndicate and so many new characters is so exciting! This book will forever hold a special place in my heart! I can’t wait for the world to read this! I also cannot wait for Caged!!!

I tried really hard to get into this book.
I initially planned to read CAGED. However, since it's a series, I decided to start with the first book. While I found the tropes catchy and exciting, the writing style did not click with me.
So, will I read the next book? Yes, because that's the one I originally intended to read, and I'm willing to give it a chance. We'll see how it goes.

It was sooooo good at first! Such a different and cool story line but halfway through it started to get repetitive and stayed that way, took me 4 weeks to finish because I couldn’t bring myself to pick it back up, it ended exactly how I thought it would 😂
