This is a well written book with a cast of strong characters centering on Graham, Isadora and their daughter Sloane. The author brings a second chance romance filled with emotions, heartbreak and pain. She takes you into their lives as they navigate their way back to each other and form a family. She tells the story in the dual POV, moves it fluidly and delivers another terrific read. Loved and recommend reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and are freely given.
This is book five of this series, told in dual first person POV and leaves you with a HEA. This is a long book with parts that kept me hooked wanting to know what happened next, while other times it dragged causing me to have to push through.
I loved Graham and how he was so encouraging towards his employees. I love that after 14 years of not being in contact with his love interest, when their paths crossed again the chemistry between them was still there. I loved that when he found out about Sloane, he didn’t hesitate to form a relationship with her.
Isadora was a mother who thought she was doing the right thing. I was sad that her relationship with her father was toxic, but I was happy it caused her to finally stand her ground with him. I was excited to see how she would respond to Graham after years apart and how she would reveal her secret to him. Sadly, she let me down. While I understood her feelings, I felt like she was a little too selfish at times. She had a lot of insecurities, but she also didn’t really take the time to process Graham’s side of things until her best friend finally put her in her place. I was also shocked how she came off like she had Sloane’s best interest first, but when things started heating up with Graham, I felt like she had her wants first instead. I could also see her side of wanting to be sure that history wouldn’t repeat, but she reminded me more of a teenager with her actions than the adult she was. She didn’t really take Graham’s feelings into consideration when it came to telling Sloane about them. Nor did she take into account of Graham having a “first” moment with Sloane, and instead made them both take a moment that was precious to them and tarnish it by her actions and making it about it her. I can understand it, the situation was definitely relatable, I have had it happen to me with my children. But I was also quick to make sure that neither person saw my hurt so I wouldn’t sully their experience, Isadora sadly let me down. I still liked her, but there were many things I wasn’t a fan of.
The ending was good, but I felt like things with her father were left unresolved. I used my KU subscription to snag the extended epilogue, which resolved this issue a little bit more and gave us more excitement.
Regardless, I did enjoy the story and I’m excited to read more of Ali Parker’s work. I was provided with an advanced readers copy. These thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’d already gone and fallen in love with this group of bad-boy businessmen in the first book of the series. They’d captured my heart and imagination from the beginning, so I was fully prepared to settle in and watch one more of their number be bitten by the love bug. I started reading this book with the biggest evil grin on my face, knowing that Fate was about to do a number on this pair of star-crossed former lovers. I adored this little family. I loved Graham, and Isadora, and Sloane in every way possible. When things went sideways, I wanted to shake some sense into them, but then they’d find their way again and I was as contented as a purring kitten. It was so rewarding to watch all of them grow and change while trying to piece together what this new dynamic was going to look like. The only thing I could wish for would be for the “villain” to have seen the light or have received more appropriate justice. But otherwise, this book was pretty much perfect, and I can’t wait to discover what the author has planned for the last bachelor standing. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
Another enjoyable book in this series, there is a little interaction from other characters in the series but you can happily read this as a standalone without having read the other books in the series. Isadora is a single mother of 14 year old Sloane working at her family company. However when her father fails to recognise her good work and promotes someone else over her she decides enough is enough and quits. While looking for a new job she sees her first love, and the father of her child, is advertising for an assistant and on a whim she applies for the job, just to see what he’s up to now. Meanwhile Graham, blissfully unaware that he is the father of a child, receives the application and is intrigued to see what happened to the one who got away and invites her in for an interview, who could predict how things could develop. They say the truth will put, but it’s not always easy to find out about. A story about childhood sweethearts, the chance of second love, single parenthood and interfering outside forces, this story is not as straightforward as one might expect and deals with emotions and issues along the way, a thoroughly enjoyable read
A second chance at your first love and a secret baby turned angsty teenager pulls the reader in and keeps them hooked until the end. Isadora finally gets fed up with her overbearing father passing her over for promotions and realizes that he will never appreciate what she brings to the family business. She quits her executive job and on a whim applies to be the assistant for her former high school boyfriend, Graham.
After Isadora takes the job as Graham’s assistant long hidden secrets are revealed from both sides. Why Graham disappeared when they were young, the father of Isadora’s 14-year-old daughter. Drama unfolds and both realize that they’ve made mistakes and have to learn to grow and be honest with each other to make their relationship work and successfully co-parent.
Ali Parker spins a spicy heartwarming story of reunited first loves, overcoming past mistakes, being suddenly given everything you’ve ever wanted, and being thrust into parenting a teenager with humor, life lessons, and plenty of spice.
Isadora has had it with how her father overlooks her abilities and dedication to promote yet another male sycophant rather than his own daughter. So, she quits and sets her eyes on a new job with none other than Graham, her long ago lover and father to a fourteen year old daughter he knows nothing about.
When Graham gets a message from HR that Isadora is applying to be his executive assistant, memories of his high school sweetheart, the girl he left behind, come flooding back, especially the fact that Isadora’s father was the one who sent him away. Don’t miss
If ever a family deserves a second chance, it is Graham, Isadora, and Sloane because none of them is at fault for the original transgression that tore them apart. But will the three of them be able to forgive each other for the mistakes they make AFTER they are reunited?
Ali Parker delivers a haunting story of betrayal, passion, redemption and true love that kept me entranced from the first page to the last. Don’t miss this gem!
I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.
First off I gave this book a chance because I had already started reading before finding out the daughter was 14 years old. I felt like the author should have included the distance in time in the synopsis. I usually do not like to read about older children and I will tell you why. The h treated the daughter like she was a friend. In my opinion no 14 year old should have a boyfriend. She was treated like she was 18 instead of 14. Then she had several big attitude moments where she slammed, doors and talked back to her mother which was super annoying. I felt like they constantly went back and forth especially the h to me she blamed the H for almost everything. At the end she literally blamed him for something he did not know about because the daughter was being a little brat. He proposed at the end but I was not feeling it. There was no romance and half a🤬parenting, and mediocre sex- half of which I skipped thru. If you can’t tell by no I really just tolerated the book and was ready to be finished! Child was written to grown!
Isadora and Graham have been through so much. In 15 years neither had had a relationship with any other person. Her horrific father and his treatment of her and even Graham, when they were teenagers were, devastating to both of them in their young lives. But he couldn't keep them apart forever. He pulls out all the stops but gets nowhere this time. The mistakes they've both made are hard to forgive, it's touch and go a few times, but with love, heartbreak and a 14 year old daughter holding them together till they get it right! They are meant to be and their breathtaking love for each other will warm your heart! This is a binge worthy series; all supporting characters are outstanding. Appreciate you Ali and your incredible story telling, thank you for another 5 star book! I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion!
The story of Grahm and Isabella has every emotional feel!
Graham and Isabella’s story is one of always procrastinating on Isabella’s part. Graham and Isabella have a history of fifteen years ago when they were in love, and a product of that love was born. Graham left to go to college without even saying goodbye to Isabella, and Isabella never told Graham about it. He left because he was caught in between a rock and hard place. Isabella quit working for her father. He is a very manipulative man and always tries to run her life. She takes a job with Graham’s company as his assistant. There were mistakes make fifteen years ago, and there are mistakes made in the present. Can they ever get past them? Read this wonderful and interesting story of how they face their problems head on.
Isadora has had it with how her father overlooks her abilities and dedication to promote yet another male sycophant rather than his own daughter. This is a wonderful second chance HEA that breathes REAL life, REAL problems and REAL feelings into a romance novel. Isadora and Graham had a relationship when they were young. They only had one encounter, but that encounter gave Isadora her beautiful little girl - Sloane. Now, they're both older, both wiser, but Graham never knew that he had a daughter! That adds an interesting set of twists to this story line, and makes an already complicated situation even more complicated - especially when Sloane is the one that figures it all out! I absolutely loved this story - and really wasn't sure it was going to end in an actual Happily Ever After. Ali does an amazing job of helping us feel all the things her characters feel! If you get a chance - definitely read this book!
Graham and Isadora were childhood sweethearts until her father drove him away. Fast forward 14 years and as Isadora walks away from her job with her overbearing father, out of curiosity she gets a job working as Graham’s assistant. She’s definitely playing with fire as Graham does not know he is the father of her child. The story is full of trials and tribulations, Isadora’s father makes his wrath felt, causing even more anguish. It seems as though once they get over one problem up pops another. Isadora is used to being the sole parent in her daughter’s life so has some issues to overcome in sharing her daughter. At least Graham and Isadora have some steamy make-up sessions. Well worth reading and keeps you interested to the end.
Even though this is a long book, it’s a great story about Isadora and Graham who were teen loves but then were separated. She was pregnant but Graham did not know. Fast forward 14 years. Isadora has worked for her father and has been passed over for advancement over and over and never recognized for her achievements. She quits and in looking for another job she runs across Graham looking for an Assistant. She doesn’t tell him about Sloane and in fact, it is Sloane who eventually discovers he is her father. Isadora had a bit too much back and forth due to her insecurities and I felt the situation with her father was not resolved. I received this as an ARC and am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really liked this book because Isadora is portrayed as a very strong woman who finally has the guts to respectfully stand up to her father and quit working for his company. He never acknowledged her contributions and passed over her when she rightfully deserved a promotion. The problems she encountered when she chose to work for her ex-boyfriend and the father of her 14-year-old daughter (that he didn't know existed) were not all predictable. Her father was a menace to both Isadora and Graham throughout the whole story. I was hoping there would be some resolution there. All in all, it was another good book by Ali Parker.
Isadora has tried to show her father that she is qualified, but she decided he will never value her professional accomplishments. Instead, she decides to pursue a new career opportunity which will bring Graham, her first love, back into her and her daughter’s life.
Graham is a successful businessman who has never forgotten Isadora so when he sees that she is applying for a position in his company he can’t resist the opportunity to see her again which will force them to face the secrets of the past.
As teenagers Isadora and Graham were forced apart however the journey that they take to try if and find their way back to each other if filled with turmoil and twists.
This is such a disappointment. The setup is so obvious: He doesn't do relationships or marriage, etc. Of course we know that will change. The writing is juvenile and superficial; after 1 week of working together: "There was something more lingering beneath the surface, something that had been simmering between us all week. I could treat her right and be the partner she deserved." He says sex with her at 18 years of age was the best of his life. Really? At age 18? I doubt it. I find it hard to believe that a top executive discusses his love life - "the one that got away at 18", 14 years ago, with his executives. Couldn't read 500 pages of this; DNF at 30%.
Isadora and Graham's relationship goes back many years. Her father is a cold, calculating man who made sure their relationship wouldn't go further. Fast forward 15 years when Isadora is applying to Graham's company as his personal assistant even though she is extremely overqualified. Will the past help or hurt their chances at reconnecting with each other. The attraction is as strong as ever but Isadora is keeping a secret that could destroy any relationship even before it begins. This was a great love story with a lot of angst's along the way. A must read!!
Graham and Isadora had been together 14 years ago until he up and left her with no explanation. They both moved on and she worked for her father but he’s treating her unfairly by overpassing her for promotions and she quits. She applied to Grahams company as an executive assistant that he needed and they see each other after all these years. The attraction is still there but both have secrets that could tear them apart. Also her father isn’t helping as he’s causing trouble! Will they get a second chance? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
If you like second chance romances, you'll love Isadora and Graham's story. Young love at its best. Heartwarming and heartbreaking, an emotional page turner that's hard to put down. A controlling father, a beautiful daughter and more. Ali did a great job with this story. Overflowing with drama, angst and emotion. This story will pull you in at the beginning, and you won't be able to put it down. A happy ending and no cliffhanger. I read a fee arc via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.
Another great book from Ali Parker. I was hooked from the very beginning and could not put it down. There is everything in this book such as: romance, second chance, redemption, steamy moments, emotions, secrets, love and the lists go on. I love how strong Isadora was and also Graham who was determined to win back his lover and their daughter. I highly recommend reading this book as you will not regret it at all!
I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.
This is a long story, 74 chapters. This is a second chance for Isadora and Graham, who were high school sweethearts and Graham left without explanation. Fast forward 15 years and Isadora has a 14 year old daughter that Graham has no idea he is the father. When Isadora leaves her father’s company she becomes Graham’s executive assistance. There is a lot of back and forth and some slower parts that I find myself skimming. Isadora also needed to stop with the back and forth with Graham and giving him whiplash.
Isadora and Graham were high school sweethearts. He vanished without a word after their one night together…leaving her heartbroken and pregnant. Years later, she lands a job as his assistant.
Was it inevitable that he’d discover his daughter in dramatic fashion? Of course. Was it equally obvious that the true reason for his disappearance in Dora’s life would also threaten to blow up their relationship? Yup. But was the happily ever after completely worth the long read, absolutely. I loved their happy little family, when they all got out of their own way and let it be that way.
2nd chance romance, favorite author, and you get a book that you thoroughly enjoy!!
15 years after breaking up, Graham has everything he wants, he rich, and he is free, even though he sees his friends getting married and happy, he's good. But when he needs an assistant and its his love from 15 years ago...
Isadora has raised her daughter Sloane, but what happens when she starts a new job and the one person who walked away is now her boss... Enjoy this rollercoaster ride...
I received this book free from the author and freely give my review
Graham and Isadora were split many years ago and after she quits her job at her controlling, domineering, egotistical father`s company, she applies at Graham's. Graham is a workaholic and when he sees Isadora's resume come to his desk, he is excited to see the only woman he loved again. She never tells him about his daughter Sloane until her daughter figures it out herself. The attraction is still there and more than ever. Can they survive the betrayal and secrets and be a happy family? This by far one of my favorite Ali story.
This is the fifth book in this enjoyable series, this time it's Isadora and Graham's story. Their story is told from first person points of view by both of them. It's a second chance story telling how they came together again after fifteen years apart. Fifteen years of her keeping Graham in the dark about being a father to their daughter Sloane.
It's an emotional rollercoaster read that held my attention and easily kept me hooked eager to find out how their story would end. Overall I enjoyed the book but did feel it was a little too long.
I enjoyed the storyline of this book but the only thing that annoyed me was the secrets and lies as soon as they found out about one lie and it was sorted another one popped up and it all started again and that seemed to be the theme of the book. Would have liked to see if Dora Dad tried to do something when he found out they got married but it seemed he just disappeared from the story. Nice bonus but again when you leave things hanging. Loved to have had another book
This second chance love story is full of heartbreaking moments. Isabella and Graham are on the receiving end of a melding father. Ali Parker does an outstanding job of weaving the past with the present. The character development is realistic as are their personalities. I was so engrossed in this book I couldn’t stop reading.
This Bookfunnel ARC is a great read! The above review is how I feel about this book.
This was a sweet, emotional second chance romance that was a bit more than a second chance romance. The story really followed the emotional rollercoaster of bringing a broken family together and navigating the lies, broken trust, and hurt caused by the lost 14 years. Also lots of teenage drama included, but overall I thought it was a sweet story. I received an advance review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Oh wow, this book had me hooked from the start. It went straight into the story. Isadora had finally had enough of the way her father was treating her and decided she could do better. That is when Graham comes into the picture, and she applies for a job at his company. This is where the love story and romance begins and second chances start. The rest I will leave for you to find out.....No, spoilers from me. I highly recommend this book to read, I loved it.
Take a regular family, add in a disgruntled controlling father and you get the girl of your dreams back in your life! Graham, Isadora, and Sloane climb some big hurdles to make their family work! Deciding to finally not letting a controlling old man control your life and being with the only true love you've ever had was a lot of work for Graham and Isadora but they succeeded!
