Charlie

Hiding isn’t what I’d call living.

For the last four years, I’ve felt trapped between the life I want to live and the one I should’ve lived. My past has broken me, creating a shell of the woman I once was. Until Jackson. My fated mate who’s willing to save me from the truth that can destroy this town. Despite every belief I hold of never being loved again. I can’t deny the natural pull that binds me to him. Giving him the power of destruction over my heart will be something I’ll never recover from.

Jackson

The weight of truth sits heavily on my shoulders. I can’t escape my past and the pain it’ll bring to those I love, but when my brother calls, I have no choice. Returning to Solaris to take over as Alpha is a fate I’ve always known was inevitable, a responsibility I’ve always dreaded.

That is until her. Charlie has changed everything. The future is brighter with her in it. Now, nothing will stop me from claiming my seat and my girl.

The amount of growth KM Bell has shown from her debut book, Claiming Orion, to this one Burning Phoenix is *chefs kiss*

I really liked the alpha Jackson! He's the grumpy yet soft for her type, which always makes me melt!

Charlie is traumatized for good reason, but watching her grow as a delight.

This is a fast-paced book shifter story
♡my mate
♡ insta bond

KM I am excited to see where you take these characters next!

"Burning Phoenix" is a gripping tale set in the mystical Solaris Village. The story follows Jackson, a reluctant Alpha who returns to his pack after years of running from his past. Upon his return, he discovers Charlie, a lone wolf hiding from a dangerous man who once bought her at an auction. As Jackson and Charlie navigate their fated bond, they must confront their pasts and the threats that loom over their future. Jackson's journey to embrace his role as Alpha and Charlie's struggle to find her place in the pack create a compelling narrative filled with tension, romance, and self-discovery.

This book was an emotional rollercoaster! K.M. Bell does an excellent job of weaving together a story of love, redemption, and the power of fate. Jackson's love for Charlie is beautifully portrayed, especially in moments like when he says, "The Phoenix in her hasn't been born yet, but I feel her strength growing inside me. Even now, the beautiful, broken woman looks ready to burst into flames, and I'm here to dance in her blaze." This quote perfectly captures the depth of his feelings and the strength of their bond.

However, the ending left me with many unanswered questions. The fate of the pups, Ryan, Holly, and Will feels unresolved. Holly and Will’s potential as mates, given Will’s status as the true Alpha of Umbria, is particularly intriguing and I hope to see more of their story in future books.

One of my favorite aspects of the book was how the wolves had their own voices. It added a unique layer to the characters and made their interactions more engaging.

So,since I read Claiming Orion,I've been so excited about this book! And it did not disappoint.

I liked the story but my biggest bone to pick is the timeline. I have no idea the amount of time that passed during the events in the book. It was written like it was days, maybe weeks but then weeks and months were mentioned and it made no sense. Especially when compared to the last book too that I think took place in a month. And the two heavily overlapped. It was a bit confusing since I read the two stories back to back. The grammar could use some work too. I wasn’t expecting his dad to die but honestly that seemed like the best thing. No one liked him anymore and he saved Charlie so it worked. I’m mostly looking forward to Holly and Will’s story. Especially bc it’ll be more independent it sounds like

Omg this book was so good! I love a fated mates romance so much!

Charlie is such a strong fmc. Her story was definitely emotional, my heart hurt for her so much. I love Jackson! Protective from the start, that dirty mouth..omg! So many swoon worthy moments.

Loved the plot! There’s twists, emotional moments, and the spice is so perfect! If you want a fated mates romance, pick this one up!

This was a 4.5⭐️ for me.

I received and advanced copy and these are my thoughts:

Jackson returns to his pack to finally take over the role as Alpha, after being away in the military for the last 12 years.
Charlie ran away from her pack. She was taken in by Solaris traumatized and heartbroken. Meeting their mate was not in Jackson and Charlie’s plans, as they navigate trauma, insecurities and responsibilities. Will the pull they feel from their bond, unite and strengthen them? Or will secrets and insecurities drive them apart?

I really enjoyed this book! I LOVED seeing the evolution in K. M Bell’s writing! What I missed in Emma and Hunter’s story, I got in this book! Jackson and Charlie’s bond was strong and their chemistry burning. We also got to see small sweet moments and gestures, that brought more depth to their relationship.

Charlie was traumatised, sad and very insecure and it took her a while to accept what it meant to be Jackson’s mate. In time, she grew stronger and more confident.
Jackson, oh Jackson! He was what you’d expect in an Alpha - huge, strong, overprotective and possessive. He adored her but after a few wrong moves, he took a step back, in order to win back her trust. The Alpha had a soft, “Teddy bear” side to him and it was endearing.

There is an underlying tension that carries throughout the book, since there is a treat that can appear at any moment.

I also liked the addition of Jackson’s friends. They were loyal and very protective.

Looking forward to the next instalment in the series.

The banter and the descriptions get better with each book. Seriously, Jackson melted my panties with his dirty talk and alpha macho demeanor. Charlie was like those sour patch kid commercials, sour and sweet all at the same time. I loved her and actually had more of a connection with her vs Emma (from the first book). This story flows well, the writing is awesome and easy to understand. The men are hot as hell. I'm wishing for a 'mate' because of these MMCs. I couldn’t put Burning Phoenix down. KM Bell books are consistent and the plot is *chef's kiss *!!

It was quick read, it took me like 4 hours. I am gooner for wolfshifter books, so this one was for me. I love Jackson’s overprotectivness and Charlie’s huge growth. The plot was predictable, but I didn’t mind and it was very fast-paced. I like spice, but compare to the first book, it was too much form me thus one star down. It is written in 1st person dual POV, which is my preference and I am looking forward to Will and Holly story❤️ Enjoy the read😊

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

KM came in swinging with the second book in the Solaris Village Series and she hit it out of the park! I loved getting to know more about the Solaris pack, seeing how beloved characters are thriving, and getting to know new ones, both loved and disliked. KM also gave us so much delicious spice in this book that I was blushing hard reading some of these scenes. I wouldn’t change a thing and thoroughly enjoyed reading this whole book.

Jackson has returned to Solaris Village, the reluctant alpha that we met in Claiming Orion. His story was set up briefly at the end, but it left you wanting his story. KM held nothing back when it came to giving us a brooding alpha, who has such a soft spot for his mate. This powerful alpha, who is patient with his mate while she heals, allows herself to open up to him on her timing, and loves her fiercely and fully. The conversations between Jackson the man and his wolf were amazing and I loved seeing that relationship.

Charlie is new to the Solaris pack, having ran from her own pack after being sold. She’s never known the love of a true mate and is hesitant towards Jackson at first. However, as she is able to come to him on her own and never feels pushed, she begins to trust the bond between them and allows herself to be loved as she truly deserves. I loved seeing her grow more confident in herself, thus being more confident in them as fated mates. Her healing journey was written with such love and compassion too.

KM gives us everything and more in this book. Expanding from book one, setting up more books in the series, and leaving her readers fulfilled and wanting more all at the same time. She gives us a perfectly paced story, that is balanced with romance, suspense, spice, and plot. There is a danger always lurking just below the surface and when the climax of this book hits, it hits hard! Seeing how the pack works together to care for their own is beautiful to see! I highly recommend this book and praise KM for delivering a wonderful book!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

I am giving this two-stars, which is generous, because I feel like the series has potential. The first book in the series was a much stronger book even though it struggles with some of the same issues I’m going to mention here.

There is a lot of telling rather than showing that happens, and the info-dumping in that way is both boring and overwhelming. It creates a very shallow feeling that comes across as juvenile in a book that otherwise has mature themes.

This book is also fast-paced, but not in the good way. There is insta-love and insta-lust due to this mate bond, but the way it is written doesn’t allow room to develop attachment to either one of the characters or to become invested in the bond.

This book is also mostly a retelling of the first novel, but from the perspectives of Jackson and Charlie. However, it doesn’t add anything to the original narrative to have written the second book this way. We don’t get any new information about the organization from the first book or the dangers presented to the pack. We get very minimal interaction between the siblings of this series that would have made us care about the information we learn about them at the end of this second book, so the revelations about them just don’t hit emotionally. We also only get told about this connection between Holly and Will that is meant to set up for book three, but we never actually SEE anything about that to make me want to read about Will and Holly on a deeper level. I’m not even sure the third book will be deeper given how under-developed this book is.

I want to like this series. I want more involvement of the Alaskan setting. I want to be shown more about each of these characters and I want them to have more interactions that build relationships rather than just being told these connections exist because “wolf shifters” and their inner wolf says so.

I think both the first and second books could use heavy revisions and fleshing out before they are really ready to be books that are sold. I would only recommend people read this for free via KU and I do not recommend paying for the book in any format until it has been dramatically changed and improved.

3.5 stars

This was a lusciously steamy wolf shifter, fated mates romance read without an intensely heavy plot and has minimal violence - and that to me is just right. I've come across other wolf shifter romances that were quite heavy on the physical violence, particularly one committed by a dominant alpha villain against the FMC. So this book was refreshingly tame on that regard and I was grateful for it.

The book's blurb tells us exactly what the story is about, and it is about our FMC - Charlie - trying to find her place in a new pack after escaping her former one where she was abused and terrorized. She lives her life in her new pack extremely broken, distrustful, and perennially anxious for her and her wolf's safety. It is in this new pack, too, where she meets our MMC - Jackson - and they soon discover that they are fated mates. The rest of the story then shows us how both our MCs overcome their demons, deal with threats to their pack, and iron out issues involving family.

The book is peppered all throughout with intimate and titillating mating scenes involving our MCs in which they reinforce their mating bond and slowly plow through the invisible walls they've put up against their fears.

Perhaps the one thing I disliked about the story was how much crying the FMC did all throughout the book. I wish some of her crying was replaced by other means of emotional outpouring like hunting or sparring. And I would have preferred too that her being able to finally overcome the demons of her past could have taken place in a more dramatic fashion so it could have lived up to the title of burning phoenix.

On the other hand, our MMC - Jackson - was everything you could want in an alpha male hero. He was intense, dominant, overly protective but also ferociously in love with Charlie. Whatever discontent Charlie elicited from me for her excessive emotional outbursts were more than made up for by Jackson's potent masculinity.

Overall though, it was a good read, and I look forward to the next installment in the series.

Audio Review:

I don't often do shifter romances, however after book one I was invested into this. KM Bell evolved from book one. Writing the story and taking it to a whole never level. The level of emotions that are portrayed in this book had me bouncing all over the place. From relating to Charlie and her insecurities to feeling of possessiveness and deep need that Jackson gives off. Neither one is perfect in this story , but regardless of their flaws they take their feelings to heart and work hard to make their love story work and they are perfect for one another. I'm eagerly awaiting book 3 so I can continue following these two as they have captured my heart and I'm only hoping that whatever threat or tension maybe lurking doesn't come between them in the end.

On to the narration: Gabriel De Leon and Vivienne Ferrari are newer to me in the narrator world, but I always love finding new narrators to listen to. They provided such amazing audio for this shifter romance. Bringing these characters and their emotions to life, creating a world that that the author wrote and delivering it with perfection to the listeners.

Blurb:

If you took a look at my list of favorite sub-genres under the very large umbrella of romance books you would definitely find paranormal or dark shifter romance there! One of my favorite things about this genre is finding out what the rules are that the author has created for their world. I love seeing that world building! I think @km__bell did a great job of that in her first book of this series, Claiming Orion, and an even better job building off of that in this second book, Burning Phoenix. She also touches nicely on themes about what it means to be a family.

Burning Phoenix is book 2 in the Solaris Village series, and while technically could be a standalone, it would be a little difficult to understand some of what is happening in the background without having read the first book. This is largely because the events of the first book are running concurrently with the events of this one. I was initially sad that we weren't picking up right where we left off in book 1 because that was quite the cliffhanger! But as the story played out I understood that in order to even understand what would happen next we would need to see Charlie and Jackson's (the mcs of this book) story from the beginning. I appreciated Jackson's attempts at groveling after hurting Charlie's feelings and his understanding of the depths of her grief from her past.
Burning Phoenix has all my favorite tropes; I go crazy for a j/p alpha and Jackson satisfies all of that for me 🔥

The heat level definitely went up several notches in book 2; @km__bell definitely wanted us to have to take a break here and there! 😂🥵

In the end, I think Hunter and Emma still have my heart from the first book and maybe that's because I love the human/shifter dymanic, but I am really looking forward to seeing what happens with Will and Holly! I also am petitioning for more bear shifters please! :)

I received an advanced review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Charlie is new to the pack but has been acclimating very well so far. She has a pretty dark past with her father trying to sell her and then taking refuge with a new pack. With her being new to the pack comes with its own struggles but they have welcomed her so far. She has come to the acceptance tho that she lost her brother which has really strained her relationships and caused a hole where her mate should be; even tho she believes she’ll never have one.

Jackson is back in town to take over as Alpha even tho his father really doesn’t want to give up that title. There’s a lot happening within the pack right now and they need someone who is willing to make the difficult decisions and unfortunately his father is not willing to do that right now. Jackson didn’t expect to come back to town and also feel this pull towards Charlie. The only thing that could make sense is that she is his mate and everything comes together.

They both can’t deny the connection they have in such a short time. The only thing that makes sense is that they’re mates and that they can’t be apart any longer. Their wolves have a connection as well since Charlie’s wolf has had some trust issues ever since the separation of her family. Things are not finally coming together like they were supposed to.

Of course you can’t have it without something trying to come between them. You see at the end of book 1 that crazy man who originally bought Charlie is back and wanting to take her with him. It gets crazy there for a minute but it came together perfectly. I wish it would’ve been more descriptive but I’ll take it 🤣

“ ℙ𝕣𝕠𝕥𝕖𝕔𝕥 𝕙𝕖𝕣. ℍ𝕖𝕒𝕝 𝕙𝕖𝕣. 𝕂𝕖𝕖𝕡 𝕙𝕖𝕣.”

I do recommend reading Claiming Orion first because Burning Phoenix blends into Claiming Orion and you get the side character view of important events that happened in book one

I fell in love with Solaris Village in book one & could not wait to return.

Jackson is the Alpha of the pack and has returned to take his place after spending 12 years in the army special forces. He has his conflicting feelings about being Alpha but is going to step up for the good of the pack.

Charlie is a runaway from another pack and you know from book one she is having a hard time connecting to the pack she is a loner. Her biggest issue is being around men so when her and Jackson met she tries to push him away but their bond is already there and she can’t deny it.

There are so many secrets and twist and turns that you don’t know what to expect. If you are new to shifter romance or want to try on this is a great starter series.

I cannot wait for the next book I have waited for these two since book one and the name ha Virgo in it perfection

Charlie escaped her fate as an auctioned bride, but not without losing a piece of herself and her only family. After finding solace in Solaris Village, she's found ways to keep her thoughts at bay while going through the motions. When the alpha's son returns to become the new alpha, Jackson and Charlie discover their fated mate bond. However, Charlie's past continues to haunt her, and Jackson's dealing with a full plate in his new position. As they try to balance the needs of the pack, an old enemy makes a move on their tenuous happiness, forcing Charlie to decide between her life and her future.

I thought book one, Claiming Orion, was a great book, but Burning Phoenix was fantastic! Charlie's story was so touching. Seeing Jackson and her find their happiness together was beautiful. I loved how they created their own found family, with his military buddies, who would gladly lay down their lives for Jax and his girl. Watching Charlie go from this timid girl to a resilient Luna had me cheering her on. The emotions were wild with this one! And we can't forget that Jackson is a shifter with fancy equipment and stamina for days. Our girl got her happy ending, and it's only getting better from here.

I am one of the lucky girls who got to read an ALC of Burning Phoenix. Thank you, K. M. Bell! My mind is absolutely blown by this book. It gets 4.5🌟 from me. It was so heartbreakingly beautiful and sad.

I’m not usually a big fan of shifter/full moon romances, but this series by K. M. Bell is something else. The first book with Emma and Hunter was heartwarming, and then came Jackson and Charlie, and they are everything you’d look for in a paranormal relationship.

I would say Jackson is one walking red flag, but giiiiirl, is he one hot, big god? Yeah, he is. He is so swoon-worthy, and the way he’s possessive of Charlie and makes sure she’s safe—my heart can’t take it. I feel like he’s worth every sinful thought you could have.

Oh my god, Charlie—I loved her from the start. I felt so sad for her, seeing how much she was struggling. That feeling of knowing everyone you love might die or that something bad could happen to them just because they’re with you is so lonely.

I didn’t just love the romance between Jackson and Charlie but the friendship between the girls Holly, Charlie and Emma was real treasure.

I would totaly read this book again and am very excited about the next book in Solaris Village.

This is book 2 in the Solaris Village Series. Each book is an interconnected standalone that can be read in any order. I do suggest starting from the beginning as you will get some information that will help in understanding a portion of this book as the timelines are simultaneous.

-Hurt x Comfort
-Fated Mates
-Forbidden Lovers
-Grumpy x Sunshine
-Overprotective Alpha Male
-"Who did this?"

After reading Claiming Orion, I needed Jackson and Charlie's story. This book started off with a bang and never stopped with the action. Charlie had such a terrible life and reading her back story broke my heart. She was still very strong in spite of all the abuse she suffered at the hands of her old pack. Jackson was perfect for her as he never let her push him away. Their journey through this book was beautiful to read and Charlie's strength was the winner in this story. I loved getting to know Jackson's team mates and hope we get stories for them. This book gave us a glimpse into Holly and Will's story, Stealing Virgo and I am excited to read that one as well.

I loved Claiming Orion so I was eager to read this book as soon as possible. That being said, I did not have the same reaction or enjoyment. I like the story I’m interested to see what’s happening to the pack and what’s going on with this illness, but I felt there was zero movement throughout the book. This was just about Charlie and her trauma. I liked Hunter, I think he was in a tough spot with his father and the secrets of him and his siblings, but I didn’t feel a connection to the characters the way I felt a connection with Hunter and Emma. I struggled with Charlie I think it has to do with it being years and she’s still a shell of herself. She’s not trying to live her life at all just living with self punishment. Even when Hunter brings her out of her shell it takes very little to reset her back to this tiny scared pup. Overall it felt like an in between book like a 1.5 not a full novel - I would like to see more progress on the illness affecting the pack and to see more interactions with past characters

Jackson is the Alpha Male (literally) he's come home to run the pack as Alpha and wasn't looking for a mate but fate had other ideas in the form of the tiny, quiet, shy and socially awkward woman that is Charlie. Jackson and Charlie's relationship was fast because from the moment Jackson found her she was his and he wasn't letting anything take her from him. He had alot on his plate becoming Alpha and looking after his pack and keeping Charlie safe even if she was trying to keep her distance from him. She didn't want her past to hurt her new pack and Jackson but the pull was too much and once they gave in it was H.O.T all the time. They were off the charts HOT immsurprises my kindle didn't set on fire. I couldn't wait for Jacksons book after meeting him in Hunters book (Claiming Orion) and I love that the series is so interconnected and can't wait to see what else is to come from this series.

I received an ARC copy of Burning Phoenix by K. M. Bell
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️-Stars

This is book two in the Solaris Village series. I do think you should read book one Claiming Orion first as the two books do have events unfollowing at the same time and it gives you another view of said events. This book is a fated mate werewolf shifter romance. The plot was fast-paced and keeps you turning the pages. The FMC Charlie wasn’t treated right in her previous pack, and ended up escaping them, but it costed her brother which left her broken and untrusting in others. Charlie seeks asylum with the Solaris pack and ends up meeting her fated mate. Charlie is a shy but strong character and has a lot of growth throughout the book. I loved how dominant and protective the MMC Jackson was. He is a huge cinnamon roll when it comes to Charlie and I’m here for it. Even thought the two are fated mates they still had some hurdles they needed to jump over to get their HEA. Can’t wait to read more from this series.

Burning Phoenix is the third book in the Solaris Village Series. It is a fast burn, paranormal, fated mates, wolf shifter romance with a possessive, military MMC and a grumpy/sunshine theme.

Charlie is in hiding from her horrible pack. She has been traumatized and has lost so much. Jackson is called back home to take over as Alpha of his pack. He holds Charlie's fate in his hands. Will he start a war for her, or will he send her back to face a fate worse than death?

This was such an entertaining read. I loved Charlie and Jackson and the way their relationship developed as well as how they triumphed over the hurdles they faced. There were misunderstandings, secrets, trust issues, and so much more to overcome. They really grew as characters throughout it all. There was the perfect amount of drama, emotion, protectiveness, and steam in this story.

I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait for more from this author.

Jackson and Charlie's story is wonderfully caring, strong, full of fear, power, and so damn cute.

The love they have for each other is so strong that it's blinding.

What Charlie had to go through just to get there was awful. Losing her brother, the only one who ever loved her for her.
Alpha Ax is a nasty piece of work, old and truly vile.
The spice in this book is *chefs kiss* not too much, not too little, just the right amount. 🥵

"I haven't had a home in a long time, and you're starting to feel like home." 😍

Phew. What a tense fight! Killian,Will, and Jackson, I'm not sure I breathed until the end, jeeeeez!
Each page was better than the last. The angst, fear, love, excitement, and back to angst had me completely in a choke hold. I'm sure I got whiplash! 🤣
Gosh, this book is k!lling me with emotions right now! I'm a blubbering mess.

The spice. 🥵🌶🌶🌶

Eeek, will there be a book two? I need it! That cliffhanger!!! 😑

“Charlie I have two choices: save you or save them, and I’m choosing you every time.”

Burning Phoenix by KM Bell

Charlie brings the sugar…Jackson brings the spice…but together they create an inferno. Charlie learned early on that love was just a thing of fairy tales and that sometimes the thing we love most might just be what breaks you. Jackson’s life was filled with secrets and he had to learn fast that fighting for what you want might not always give you the results you’re hoping for. These two learned that the past doesn’t have to define who you are. That it is okay to dance in the flames just to shine brighter. Jackson and Charlie are without a doubt my favorite couple of the series. Their story is one that will draw you in emotionally and leave you wanting to fight alongside them.

I am so bummed to share that this was a DNF for me.

I was so excited for this read based on the blurb and the tropes, but once I started to read it, I quickly lost my interest. I think the book is a quick read and some would actually like it.

They meet - they go for a run - she's scared of what's happening - they f*ck/mate - but she still won't share her past. Idk, that threw me off and it comes off so weird for me. Also, I just wasn't a fan of the MMC.

She mentions (when they first are sleeping together) that she's never done this before. He replies that he's never mated before either. Then they start the do, and she's terrified and in pain. He gets upset and demands to know what's wrong and asks if she a virgin. Like...bro? She just said she was on the page before. Idk, I just couldn't get past this sadly lmao

Finally, I was able to finish reading the book. This last month I was in my book slump zone and nothing was working for me but I am glad that now I am back to reading. This book has everything a shifter story needs- an Alpha who gives the perfect vibe of touch her and di* and a very sweet female protagonist who is broken but now that they have found each other, things will move differently.

The story is fast-paced, and the plot is nice enough to keep me going and enjoying every bit of it. KM Bell definitely knows how to garner readers' attention. The story has so many hidden elements that when they get out, you can imagine what will happen. The side characters are amazing, and I want to know about their lives, too. I have those books now in my TBR. The character development is admirable. Do read this beauty.

It’s 4.25⭐️ for me.
