Welcome to the Black Rose Auction where every sin can be yours for a price.

For three days, the doors to this luxe New York estate are thrown wide for anyone with a taste for the obscenely rich, the ultra-exclusive, and the once in a lifetime thrill of the forbidden: where nothing is off the table and everything—and everyone—can be had for the taking.

In WICKED PURSUIT by Katee Robert, a Little Red Riding Hood remix, a mob princess with a taste for doing things she shouldn't acquires a stalker who will kill anyone who touches what's his...

In DIVINE INTERVENTION by R.M. Virtues, a Goldilocks remix, a witch must work with her ex's father (who she betrayed) and an angel to steal a magical chalice from the auction floor. But things get scorchingly complicated when all three agree that revenge is best served in the bedroom...

Wicked Pursuit 4.25 ✧
Divine Intervention 2.5 ✧

───♡─────────────

Wicked Pursuit was obscenely seductive and delightfully taboo. With a morally gray MMC, a fun plot twist, fast pacing, and scorching spice, it was a dark, delicious escape. I would have rated it higher if Ruby hadn’t acted like a horny teenager the whole time, and if the cheating subplot hadn’t rubbed me the wrong way. Still, it was an amazing read—and now I’m diving into the second half of the volume (Divine Intervention) to see what other dark fairytales this depraved little universe has to offer.
Just be warned: even if these technically work as standalones, the interconnectedness is real. If you're new to the world, I'd seriously consider starting with Wicked Villains.
If you want to read my full goodreads review on this book, go here.

Divine Intervention just didn’t click with me. While I admired the prose and the ambition of the worldbuilding, too many elements pulled me out of the story—especially the constant whining, lack of closure, and repeated cringe moments. The spice felt forced, and the romance didn’t land. Maybe it was “Papa Bear,” maybe it was the round belly, maybe it was just me—but I found myself deeply uninvested.
The pairing of this story with Wicked Pursuit felt especially unfortunate. I enjoyed Katee’s take, but this one fell flat by comparison. Still, if you're in it for the universe and want more of the morally gray chaos, it might be worth checking out the prequel first.

Wicked Pursuit: 4.75 stars
I’ve read 15 books written by Katee Robert and this is now in my top 5 favorites. I absolutely loved these characters from the beginning, every time they interacted I was smiling from ear to ear. I couldn’t put this down, but that’s normal for me when reading anything by this author since they are all so addicting and fast paced. This had one of the most insane plot twists and I’m still shook that I didn’t guess it before it was revealed. The chemistry was off the charts for this couple and I couldn’t get enough of them. I don’t want to spoil anything, but one of the things being a turn on for them both made the dynamic work where it would’ve otherwise been an ick for me if they didn’t both enjoy it. I’m excited for the rest of this series because this was a great start to a new world from Katee Robert.

Divine Intervention: 4 stars
This was super unique. I was really interested in the plot and the world that felt entirely new to me, with some familiar concepts blended in. This had angels, demons, and witches, and includes its own story woven into the infamous auction like all of the standalones in this series. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with one side of the poly romance quite as much as the other. I think it happened way too fast, and I know it’s a short book but I still needed more build up before the action. However, the other half of the poly relationship, saved the romance for me. It was a little more angsty and seeing him yearn for her before they got together made me enjoy it more. And when they became a triangle, for lack of a better term, is what bumped my rating up to four stars.

I have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Black Rose Auction collaborative series as it has many of my favourite authors, but, OH MY GOD! I was not expecting to love these as much as I did! Thank you so so much for this ARC opportunity I had an absolute blast reading these. And I desperately need this book for my shelf. Can’t wait to get my hands on the other stories because this series is so much fun. I also had the chance to read Shattered Innocence (Cinderella remix) from the series.

Wicked Pursuit 5⭐️
Katee Robert came out Sa-wiiiiing-in and knocked it out of the park with Wicked Pursuit. This might be my favourite one by her yet. A second gen spin off of the Wicked Villians series. I am OBSESSED with Red and Wolf. A dark fairytale remix of Little Red Riding. Stalker romance. Mob Princess. Masked man. Twists. Safe space for k!nk exploration. I really enjoyed every minute of this. It is so well written, I loved the full story arc and now want to dive into the Wicked Villains series (picked up Desperate Measures today)

Divine Interventions 3.5⭐️
RM Virtues is a new to me author and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to read their work. I really enjoyed the writing and the third person POV felt smooth. It was cool to see the connection to the other stories but with magic as it’s only been eluded to previously. The PNR take was fun and I always enjoy an angels/demons set up. Goldilocks remix with age gap. It was a little world building heavy for the length of it, but still super enjoyable. I could see how this could easily be a full length.

Thank you SO much for this opportunity this may be one of my favourite ARC reads yet.

Evidently filling the book with sex to make up for the lack of a plot still works, but this story is really little, perhaps because it is the first in a new series....and that's as far as Kathee Roberts is concerned.
The second novel is poorly written, chaotic, and moreover would really need some good editing to salvage what can be saved. I did not like it at all.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks, Ms. Robert and Mr. Virtues for the opportunity to read an ARC of this combined title. An honest review was requested but not required.

Frankly this cannot be reviewed as one title as it is two separate novellas wedged together, connected tenuously by the Black Rose Auction.

Starting, then, with Ms. Robert's, Wicked Pursuit. Ruby is the daughter of Belle, Gaston and Beast from her Wicked Villains series. Ruby is ALL grown up but her parents (and the rest of Carver City) seems to think she's still a good girl. And so like all spoiled mafia daughters, I mean, good girls, she's acting out. Ruby's version of acting out is, apparently, having sex with strangers in dive bars, but whatever. She breaks up with her vanilla boyfriend and indulges in dangerous fantasies with her homicidal stalker, Wolf. (This is a very VERY loosely inspired version of little Red Riding Hood.) There is a twist, and Ruby and Wolf end up at the Black Rose Auction.

Despite Ruby's alarmingly bad decision making process, the plot was good and the relationship between her and Wolf definitely held my attention. The Auction was a major plot point in the book which I liked, if this is going to be a series. It was a fun read overall and I'd give it 4 stars.

On to Mr. Virtues. The connection between Wicked Pursuit and Divine Intervention is tenuous at best. The Auction doesn't feature prominently in Divine Intervention, even though the entire story is supposedly set there, which made it harder to understand what was going on. To the best of my understanding, there were angels and demons/Puri attending the Auction and both groups hoped to recover a chalice with mystery powers, for mystery reasons. One of the divine beings, Tlalli, is disenchanted with her role and her "ex" and ready to jump ship.

The worldbuilding was very hard for me to follow, especially with such a cold start. It was difficult to keep interested initially. Things did warm up between the characters, but the plot never did - I felt like far more happened interpersonally than with the purported chalice, not to mention the Auction in general. The Concierge and the Reaper seemed to have actual roles in Wicked Pursuit, but in this story they barely appeared; would two rival factions really be allowed to steal (or attempt to steal) Auction items without their resultant involvement? I liked Tlalli's character but felt little for either Cahuani or Elias, and the repeated use of "Papa Bear" as a title used in all (ahem) situations was a bit off putting. Apparently this was a VERY VERY VERY loosely inspired version of Goldiloc(k)s, albeit with only two bears. Perhaps the author shines brighter in a full-length story setting but I didn't feel this novella was a good fit with the other one and frankly, I didn't really enjoy it as is. 2 stars.

The first book I devoured. Katee Ribert is an author i am used too. While some parts were very loose and I hope at some point get tied together, as I understand this is the spin off to the Wicked Villians series for their book, I just dont see how it would tie into the Black Action series besides the Auction itself.
The 2nd novel in this pairing I did have to DNF at 53 pages in. Now I'm not super huge on DNFing books, I always try and finish them, but I couldn't do it. The World building was fantastically written, but it was also making me loose focus in the plot. For such a short book it was alot. if it was a larger book id be down for it, but the amount of history being thrown at me and trying to envision everything it just became overwhelming for me. The trope of Ex's dad, if you can even call it that, was alot too. This Age Gap was not for me not my cup of tea of age gaps. But I will say that for the first time reading this author's writing i wish it was something else. I shall attempt another novel from R.M. Virtues down the road, but this one was not for me.

Thank to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for providing me with an ARC of both "Wicked Pursuit" by katee Robert and "Divine Intervention" by RM Virtues.

Wick pursuit 4.5 stars
I really enjoyed the wicked pursuit book. It was a fun read. Hot stalker romance done right. It was suspenseful and sexy. Only problem with this book was that at the beginning of book, the FMC was cheating which gave me a bit of ick.

Divine Intervention 2.5 stars
I must admit , I didn't enjoy "divine intervention" as much as I have enjoyed the first book. The writing was a bit confusing to me and the plot was not my cup of tea. Though, there were parts of the book that I really enjoyed.

4.5 stars for Katee’s Wicked Pursuit, which was a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, and I could certainly get the feel for that storyline while reading through. The spice level was exactly what I was looking for and there was a nice little plot twist thrown in.
2 stars for R.M Virtues’s Divine Intervention, which was intended to be a retelling of Goldilocks, however, didn’t quite hit the mark. Both of these novellas are set and play out around the Black Rose Auction, Katee made sure to incorporate it into the storyline well, whereas R.M. missed in that regard.

Divine intervention: 5 stars. Love, love, LOVE! RM Virtues is a gift from the old gods. I bought this book for him, and it makes me sad that such a beautiful book is attached to such a shitty one.

Wicked Pursuit: -100000000 stars. Fuck this sucked. It was so bad. I am so glad it’s over now and I can read better books, which is pretty much any book that is not written by Katee Robert. I’ve never read a Robert book before, which I am so thankful for. In the words of my mother: the fantasy reads like it was written by a 12 y/o girl. The smut reads like it was written by a 12 y/o boy. The fact that anyone likes her books is shocking. If you liked it, good for you. I wish my standards were as low as yours.

These are the bullet points I made about the book as I was reading it, slight spoilers:

- [ ] Why the fuck is she cheating on her bf
- [ ] Cyber bullying isn’t hot.
- [ ] Assault via evil ring isn’t hot.
- [ ] Stalkers breaking into your home isn’t hot.
- [ ] Good, mature breakup between her and her bf. That’s nice.
- [ ] The writing is poor and the smut is poorer.
- [ ] Who talks out loud to themselves like that? It could have easily been written as thinking
- [ ] Reads like a ripoff of haunting Adeline
- [ ] Twist was boring.
- [ ] Incel romance.
- [ ] Cringe. This makes me cringe.
- [ ] Why the fuck wouldn’t the other gang leaders recognize him when he was luke
- [ ] This book is making me more asexual
- [ ] This is the one time where I don’t want the villain to win. Because Casimir isn’t a villain. He’s an incel who doesn’t see Ruby as a person. Why the fuck would anyone find that hot
- [ ] Wasn’t this exact scene in haunting Adeline??
- [ ] Huzzah! Safe words are being respected! The one part of this book that doesn’t suck!
- [ ] I like how none of the dudes are squeamish about condoms
- [ ] I’m almost done the book! I’m so excited!
- [ ] This is like if These Violent Delights was white and had bad smut.
- [ ] They have the refractory periods of sex gods. Seriously. Do they not get tired? Do they ever drink water or eat anything other than bodily fluids?
- [ ] It feels like the author read These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong and haunting Adeline and tried to combine them into a worse, middle-grade written yet also smutty but with bad smut book.
- [ ] Woohoo! Go one of the dads! PUNCH THAT FUCKER IN HIS INCEL FACE!
- [ ] The fact that he was stalking you IS fucking important, Ruby. Tell your fucking parents you idiotic fucking child.
- [ ] The “baby” stuff is getting cringy.
- [ ] “It’s when I put my woman in her place” I hope this incel chokes to death on his own dick.
- [ ] Referring to each other as Husband and Wife like those are their names makes me cringe.
- [ ] Their dirty talk is embarrassing.

This is probably the first “bad review” I’ve ever written about a book. I’m usually really considerate of other authors. But I just couldn’t with this one. It was too horrible to be kind to.

I'm always here for a fairy tale retelling, so a whole series of spicy ones is such a fun concept. I love the idea of a bunch of different established authors coming together to write to what's basically the same prompt, while all taking their own unique approaches.

That said...as much as I love a box set, and as much as I'm sure that the overall series order for the Black Rose Auction books is intentional and logical, I'm not sure that these two books were the best pairing. They're very, very different—really JUST connected by the fairy tale themes and the auction setting—and as someone new to the work of both authors and new to the series in general, I found myself confused at times by the stories' connections and wondering if I had missed something. The first book is a mafia stalker romance while the second is angels and demons and magic (oh my!), and while it's fun to see how both tied together, it seems to me that each is likely to appeal to a rather different audience. And overall, personally, I would have found the introduction to the series more intuitive if we had started with two stories that were fully grounded in the auction itself (not sure if any of the later stories in the series are, to be fair, but I would assume that some are?).

I was surprised that the first story was more to my taste, but even though "mafia stalker romance" really didn't sound like my kind of thing, Katee Robert can WRITE. This story was well crafted and ultimately just fun to read. I'm not super familiar with Katee Robert's other work, but this story makes me understand why she's such a big deal in the genre. To me, this book was a model for how to construct a perfect spicy book. Whether or not the specific tropes, plot lines, and, er, activities in this book are for you, you have to admit that this was a beautifully executed mini book.

The second story sounded WAY more up my alley, but unfortunately, it just didn't quite knock it out of the park in the same way. It felt way more original, but in order to set up that original concept, it leaned heavillyyyy on explanation and world-building, taking away, I feel, from characterization, plot, and momentum. I think I would have loved this as a full-length novel, but this particular format meant that it felt like the priorities were all out of order, the pacing was off, and the relationships were hard to believe. I definitely want to check out more by the author, and I'm glad I got to read this, but I'm guessing that this might not have been the best intro!

Bonus points to the book for the songs recommended for listening throughout, which I'm always a sucker for (though this book peppered them as footnotes, which was an interesting choice—I think I'm finding that I'd prefer to see one playlist, even if that doesn't get the timing as perfect!).

ONE THING TO BE AWARE OF (I wasn't!): The first book apparently incorporates characters from Robert's Wicked Villains series. If, like me, you haven't read that series—or, er, heard of it—you might at times go "Wait, did I miss something?" Yeah, we apparently missed entire books' worth of backstory for side characters! I think that these were meant as Easter eggs for existing fans, but the characters were integrated into the story a little too heavily and it did make things a bit confusing at times. A little note explaining would have made all the difference and kept folks like me from getting confused! So, if you're like me, just know...you haven't missed anything. This story can be read as a standalone. And apparently we have a whole series to catch up on if we want!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ebook copy of this book. All opinions are, of course, my own!

Katee Robert means you can expect something extremely k1nky and filthy and forbidden. But Wicked Pursuit definitely exceeded all my expectations! This is twisted and sexy beyond my imagination and I am here for it. Katee Robert has set a standard for dark retelling but she has changed even that! This Little Red Riding Hood retelling will test your limits and cross your boundaries and will leave you a mess!

* Little Red Riding Hood retelling
* Dark mafia/ organized crime romance
* stalker romance
* enemies to lovers
* BDSM
* Touch Her and d1e
* forced proximity
* brought her in auction...
* FFM/ MMF/ sharing
* read the trigger warning carefully
* every kind of k1nk

Ruby is the heir of her family's organized crime empire in Calver City. But she is tired of the responsibilities. She wants to be reckless. She craves thrill. That comes in form of a sta]ker who caught her having sex with a stranger in bar and "cheating" on her boyfriend Luke. She splits up with Luke soon but her stalker wants a lot of things from her. The Wolf blackmails her to make her participate in Black Rose Auction and buys her there. But when the mask comes off and his identity as her family's enemy is revealed, everything goes crazy. Ruby is such a bada&&! She is fierce and she isn't afraid of reaching for her desire. It was so twisted that I cannot even tell you the level. The Wolf and Ruby are definitely made for each other. She isn't any protected mafia princess only. She has lots of fire. Wolf's identity shocked me because it's not his Russian mafia connection only. It's the way he claimed Ruby piece by piece without her knowing anything. He is insanely possessive but to make her fantasies come true, he will let her play..only to own her in more intense way after that. Their dynamics is so f*cked up. So crazy. But it also makes perfect sense.

As soon as I read the tropes and the trigger warning at the beginning, I realized I am venturing into an uncharted territory for me as a romance reader. And that got me so excited. New to me author. New k1nks and tropes. Divine Intervention was nothing less than a sexy action packed intense adventure for me.

Ex’s dad
supernatural polyamorous romance
Black romance
Two spirit leads
Witches, angels and demons
CNC / primal play
Enemies to lovers

Thalli has had enough of the games if the Archangels. She was used and betrayed and given to a man who has no business being an angel. The Black Rose Auction and the mission of stealing the chalice gives her a chance to escape the Heaven and the Dominion. She finds an unexpected guest here. Her ex's dad Cahuani who has the same ancient magic as her and is part of the Puri aka the demons. She stole from him once but he is her last hope to get out. He isn't like his evil son after all. But what about another angel who came here with her? Elias is certainly a very powerful and ancient one but he has been disillusioned too. With a war between the Dominion and the Puri on the horizon, these three have to make some savage decisions.

Tlalli is a very strong character. Not only magical power. The way she is constantly fighting to not bow down to the Dominion but had to play their games too. She is fierce and sensual and sassy. Cahuani didn't want to trust her initially but her pleading melted his heart. He knows that she isn't responsible for his son's corruption
And he cannot deny he feels something very deep and intense for her. Elias has been like friend to her and he always tried to ignore the wrongdoings of the Dominion but now he is at cross hairs and he has to take a side. And they both chose Tlalli. It was so spicy and dark and twisted. Make sure to stay dehydrated because oh my god it was hotter than the sun. I have never read anything with this kind of supernatural leads and it was fascinating. Cahuani and Elias both were extremely protective and possessive and they both had a dangerous side when it came to enemies. A lot of moving pieces were here and the ending was epic.

Thank you so much for the chance to ARC read this book. I was so excited as Katee Robert is one of my guilty pleasure authors with Neon Gods being a favorite of mine. I want to discuss these parts separately because I feel they both had strengths before jumping into the overall vibes.

For Wicked Pursuit, I genuinely wish this was drawn out more. I really enjoyed the world set up, the lore, the charaters, and the twist with Wolf. The smut was well done (as always), and I really appreciated Robert bringing in subspace and subspace drop. Ruby was an interesting character that I wanted to see fleshed out more. I wish, in reality, both of these were longer sections to this Duel book. I am so invested in Ruby's friends as well.

For Divine Intervention, this is a concept I would have loved a multi-part series of. I feel like the building of this magic system and world needed more page time, and this concept deserved more page time. Tlalli could have easily been a FMC in her own series had Virtue decided to go that route. I feel like the ending was a bit rushed and a bit of a cliffhanger. Overall, I feel like this section of the book suffered the most from the issues I am about to address.

My issue lies with these two books together. I do not feel like there is a connection between them other than the Black Rose Auction and Tlalli mentioning, very briefly, seeing Ruby during the viewing. The worlds the authors built felt very disconnected from each other when it is infact meant to be the same world. I, personally, do not feel footwork was properly put into these two stories to connect them.

To drop a full magic system in Divine Intervention without a set up being done in Wicked Pursuit felt very almost random, especially when Wicker Pursuit also leaves the reader with this sense of "what happens now" between the mafias and heirs. I understand the concept they both were aiming for here and I appreciated the two books separately for what they were, but I would not say they are connected in any other sense than Reaper and the Auction are mentioned. I feel like that situation could have avoided had this been to separate books released together instead of two books in one.

The writing in both of these parts did feel weak as well, but again, I think that's due to this book being so few pages it did not allow either author to fully complete the story. It feels as if they limited themselves in these retellings and did not truly get to explore and build their worlds, especially in Divine Intervention, which I feel has a lot of potential as a romantasy.

Again, I do see what Robert and Virtue were aiming for with the concept of 2 books in one that is going to really appeal to some readers, especially with how beautiful these covers are. I just do not feel this concept was executed as well as it could have been had it been done in two separate books. Overall, I can only give these 3 stars due to how it read together as a whole and the weakness in the overall writing style due to the limitations. Both of these stories have so much potential, though, so I do not want to drop it to lower than 3 stars.

*Thank you to the authors, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this! Per usual, my opinions and review are 100% my own*

This is technically two books in one, so each will get their own review! Overall, I LOVE this and will definitely be reading the other books in this series written by some other amazing authors! Overall this gets 4 stars from me and alllll the chili spices. The world was semi-familiar to me as an absolute stan of all of Katee Robert's work.

Wicked Pursuit
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.5

Katee's books will almost always just HIT for me. I was frothing at the mouth when I learned it was Beast/Gaton/Belle's daughter! I will say that I guessed at least a bit of who the masked stalker was, but the TRUE identity?! I did not see that coming and I legitimately squealed.

If you've not read Katee's original Wicked Villains series (particularly the Beast, which is the origin story of Ruby's parents), I think this story will still make sense, but I don't think it'll have the same impact. Me knowing the background characters, particularly the parents, but also all of the other territory leaders really added to full impact of this storyline. Especially since these are all novellas, there's not a ton of time to go into all of the backstories.

This series is HIGH on the spice. Wicked Pursuit in particular is a stalker romance (but she can't stop talking to him), possession and chasing, primal play, and so much more. Read your content warnings if you're not comfortable with k!nk in general!

Divine Intervention
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I was on a high from Wicked Pursuit and this one sadly fell a bit short for me. I love me an angels vs. devils vibe, and this is a loose dark retelling of Goldilocks, but somewhere just fell a bit short. I do definitely think that you need to have read at minimum Wicked Pursuit to not feel lost in this one. Still VERY high on the spice: ex's dad, age gap, CNC, fallen (and falling) angels and witches.

I personally was a bit thrown off having read the complex web that is all of Katee's books (won't go into which ones all link here since that will spoil some things if you haven't read those books), but all of them are strictly magic-free. So reading about witches and angels and demons from the get-go threw me off my game. Just for me personally I would have preferred this to have been a plain old heist with potentially some mafia or assassin groups instead of angels vs. demons. I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters and perhaps due to the short nature of this story, didn't even feel the level of hatred for the villain of this story. The result was that I liked the book, but didn't ultimately love it.

"Wicked Pursuit" offered an engaging world, great characters, and an intriguing twist with Wolf. The smut was well-executed, and I appreciated the inclusion of subspace and subspace drop, which felt fresh and added depth to the dynamics. Ruby’s character stood out, and I found myself wishing for more of her story. There was a lot of untapped potential here, and I think both "Wicked Pursuit" and "Divine Intervention" could have benefited from being longer, as I was left wanting more.

"Divine Intervention" had a unique premise that blended angels, demons, and witches in an interesting way, all tied to the Black Rose Auction. I enjoyed the concept but felt it was underdeveloped. The world-building and magic system could have used more exploration, and the storyline felt rushed, especially towards the end. Tlalli, in particular, was a character who could have easily carried her own series. The poly romance was a nice touch, though the development felt too quick for my liking, and I didn’t connect with one of the characters as much as the other.

My biggest issue with this collection is the lack of cohesion between the two stories. The only link was the Black Rose Auction, and even then, the worlds felt very disjointed. Introducing a new magic system in "Divine Intervention" without the proper setup in "Wicked Pursuit" made it feel almost out of place. These stories might have worked better as two separate books.

The writing in both stories felt limited due to the short format, which made it hard to fully invest in the worlds and characters. Despite the promising premises, both stories left me feeling like they didn’t reach their full potential.

Overall, while I enjoyed both stories for what they were, the lack of connection between them and the rushed pacing prevented this from being a higher rating. That's why this colection gets 3 ⭐ from me.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC copy!

Wicked Pursuit

4⭐, 3.5🌶️

I really enjoyed this story! I loved the plays on Little Red Riding Hood! I mean an unhinged book where our FMC falls in love with her crazy murderous stalker? SIGN ME UP! And I LOVED who Wolf ended up being?! That was a great twist, and how that effected the relationship was so unique (very vague, I know, but its a MAJOR plot point and I dont wanna post a spoiler).

🖤Forbidden Romance
❤️Hidden Identity
🔪 He Unalives for Her
❤️Good Girl on a Bad Streak
🖤 Mafia/ Bratva

I'll always happily read Katee's books - you get spice, drama, and chaos. She's absolutely a comfort read for me!

Divine Intervention

3.75⭐, 3.75🌶️

Okay this book started off rough for me. I went in blind, so orienting to all the demon/ angel world and terms ad characters was jarring for me. I ended up pausing reading the book after the first 15% for about two weeks because it just didnt grab my attention. But then I picked it up to finish before the end of the month and I got into the story very quickly. The main characters had such an interesing past, and understanding both sides "mission" was a fun plot. BUT I WANTED THE SPICE! And then it showed up, and while it was spicy, I felt like it just wasn't descriptive enough for me? Like it felt more artistically written which took me out of the scene a tad.

❤️MMF Romance
🖤 Enemies to Lovers
💛"Ex-Boyfriend's" Dad
🖤Workplace Romance
❤️Romantic Suspense

In terms of this being a play on a fairy tale, it was veryyyyy loosely a play on Goldilocks. Mostly because the FMC was called Goldie once or twice, and one of the MMC's is called Papa Bear. Otherwise, I couldnt find any Goldilocks references/ plays so it wasnt super fun of a story in that aspect.

Does this book tie into the rest of this authors work at all? Cause I'm very interested to keep reading their work if so!

Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for an eARC of this two book set in exchange for my honest review!

Wicked Pursuit and Divine Intervention by Katee Robert & R.M. Virtues are amazing twists on classic tales we all know and love. Spicy, gripping, and all-consuming. These stories will pull you into the world of a fairytale based Mafia underworld and a war between Heaven and Hell. Both novellas contain diverse characters which I thoroughly enjoy seeing the representation of different cultures, relationship dynamics, LGBTQIA+, as well as disabilities and/or mental illness. They created a safe space through these stories where I can truly disconnect from reality for a bit.

Wicked Pursuit is a Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf retelling where the Wolf gets the girl. Ruby is a good girl with a decent boyfriend, but when the pressures of being a Mafia heir drive her to relish in being bad, Ruby gets herself thrown to the Wolf. This mysterious, masked, and murderous figure makes her discover more things about herself than she thought was possible. Is it possible he knows her just a little too much?

Divine Intervention is a paranormal Goldilocks retelling where Papa Bear gets the girl... Plus one more to make things just right 😉. Tlalli, an archangel regretting the transgressions Anthony (Little Bear) made her pull against ‘Papa Bear’ Cahuani, a descendant of demons. Tlalli finds herself stuck in Cahuani’s orbit once again, and she’s not the only one that is being pulled into orbit. Elias, another archangel with a mysterious past and begrudgingly Anthony’s babysitter, slowly starts falling for the both Tlalli and Cahuani. Can they make it without breaking the truce between Heaven and Hell? Or is it sometimes worth it to raise a little Hell and break the rules for the greater good?

Thank you so much to NetGalley for providing me and ARC and thank you to Katee Robert & R.M. Virtues for writing these amazing stories! All thoughts and opinions are honest and my own.

Wicked Pursuit:
Set back in Carver City as a next-gen to the Wicked Villians series, this is a Little Red Riding Hood remix. Ruby is the heir to a crime family, and Wolf is her stalker. Finally bored with her nice-guy boyfriend, Ruby leans into his games and MAN does this story take off. Personally, I'm still dipping my toes into dark romance, so this definitely has those elements if that's what you're looking for. But it's fast-paced enough, if you're a newbie like me. I really hope this is the start to a sequel series with the rest of the heirs & spares! I feel like I can't go into much more detail without adding spoilers, but if you're a Katee Robert fan, this will likely be a 5-star addition to your TBR.

Divine Intervention:
I'll start off my saying I'm not familiar with R.M. Virtue's work. For the length of the book, and the general content I was expecting given the premise of the series, there was a lot of world-building in this one. Angels and demons, a whole heist backstory, celestial politics, etc. This is set up as a Goldilocks remix, and involves a witch-turned-angel and the witch-working-for-demons, who happens to be her ex's dad, meeting up at the Black Rose Auction to obtain the same item (and getting together along the way, not to ruin it for you). I appreciate the effort that went into making this fantasy world fit into a shorter novel, and maybe it would have been easier to get into if I had read Virtue's other work, I'm not sure. I enjoyed it once it came together, but it took me a bit to get into this half of the split book. I'd be open to reading more from R.M. Virtue

Big thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

*Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for this one!*

Wicked Pursuit:
I was so excited to jump back into Katee Robert’s stories! Based back in the world of Carver City (Wicked Villains series), this one is based on Little Red Riding Hood. And it does center around a child from the Belmonte family.
So if you wanted to know a bit more of the political/family references you could read The Beast (number four in the Wicked Villains series) beforehand.
However, it’s definitely not required, you can still read this separately I feel like.
I flew through this one. I do enjoy Katee’s writing style. So first off- the main build- up is the stalking. I did enjoy this part. However, I felt like the black auction part was missing something. I think I just wanted a bit more scenes from the black auction. The cheating aspect did give me a bit of an ick and so did the lying. Otherwise - normally this would be a higher rating for me.

Overall- if you’re a fan of Katee Robert you’ll love this.
Tropes:
- touch her and die
- Stalking
- Masks
- political intrigue

Divine Intervention:
Loved this one! I have never read this author before. I felt the story-line was very unique. Loved how this world had angels, demons and witches. I felt like I wanted more relationship build up. But that is the struggle with shorter stories (always desperate for more!). But I'm a sucker for an enemies to lover relationship and overall this was fun. I did enjoy the heist aspect of the story.

Tropes:
Ex’s dad
supernatural polyamorous romance
Black romance
Witches, angels and demons
Enemies to lovers

Wicked Pursuit: 4🌟
Divine Intervention: 3.5 🌟

Wicked Pursuit: My first Katee Robert read but I doubt it will be my last!

I read this as part of the Black Rose Auction series having not read the Wicked Villains series and it was easy to get up to speed! This was such an addictive and sexy little mafia read, and despite being a novella, felt well paced!

I loved the plot and the twists, it was a really fun idea! Plus the world with the ‘next gen’ is intriguing and I would love to read about the fellow heirs, especially Zayne!

Ruby is an absolute brat but she’s entertaining and Wolf is deliciously hot, despite being a slightly feral cuck.

The smut was good without being overkill! There’s a few build up scenes with others before the MCs get together, that were very entertaining.

Excited to see Katee grow this world and intrigued to check out the parent’s books. Plus excited for more of the Black Rose Auction, especially Reaper!

Divine Intervention: Really cool world but a lot of world building to cover in a novella!

Continuing my Black Rose Auction reads and this was a completely different vibe and I was here for it!

The angel / dominion and demon / puri vibes were a lot to take in the first few chapters but I really like the world that was created. Especially the use of the sins and the fallen origins. I’m definitely intrigued by what other books are in this world!

It was a very smutty book once it got going, and was a lot of fun! With a mix of MF and MMF scenes!

The heist itself felt more like filler, with the world building and the smut being the key elements of the book.

Fun read and intrigued to keep going with this series!

Whoa - I am completely addicted to this series! Both stories were incredible in their own ways, and I love that it’s essentially two books in one - two twisted fairy-tale retellings that couldn’t be more different yet complement each other perfectly.

Katee’s story takes the familiar Little Red Riding Hood premise and transforms it into something dark, brutal, and unapologetically spicy. This is not your sweet bedtime version - it’s dangerous, haunting, and packed with tension. The FMC is navigating a world that’s both seductive and terrifying, and the stalker element adds a gripping psychological edge. Definitely check those trigger warnings before diving in, because this one doesn’t hold back!

R.M.’s story, on the other hand, plays with the Goldilocks concept, but it’s layered with greed, cunning, and fiery intensity. The FMC is bold, confident, and full of sass - I absolutely loved how she matched (and often outsmarted) all three MMCs. The dynamic between the characters was explosive in every sense of the word, and the pacing kept me hooked from start to finish.

Both stories were such a spicy, thrilling ride - full of emotion, tension, and satisfying payoffs. What I loved most is that even amidst all the chaos and heat, both tales deliver a strong happily ever after, which felt well-earned and fitting for each cast of characters.

I’m definitely continuing with The Black Rose Auction series - it’s dark, addictive, and wildly entertaining. Each author brings something unique to the table, and I can’t wait to see how the next instalments push things even further.

My rating for this book is a bit complicated. This review will be two parts due to two separate books within this.

Wicked Pursuit by Katee Robert's- Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Katee was one of my favorite author regarding the world of Hades and Persephone. I had heard of her other novels but hadn't read any of them since the gods series. This story was incredible! I didn't know that I needed to read about Disney villains or their children. I loved how the story developed between Red and Wolf. This story had me on my toes at all times. It also had the classic Katee Robert's Spiciness. This short story makes me now want to read the villains series and I cannot wait!

Divine Intervention by R.M. Virtues- Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I've read some of the previous reviews and I can definitely see where people could give this part of the book lower ratings. It was a good story with spice, plot, and drama but it was very different compared to Katee's story that was read first. I feel like if I would have read this one first I would feel completely different about it. This book is about angels and demons with a little bit of witch magic. I would love to read this story as a standalone with more plot and spice. The writing was good and I liked the characters except for our villains.

A huge thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca, NetGalley, Katee Robert's, and R.M. Virtues for the amazing opportunity by letting me read this book ahead of time!

It's hard to write a review for a duo book!

Wicked Pursuit: 4/5 stars
Katee Robert does not disappoint and brings the heat 🥵🔥🌶️ in this novella. Read the content warnings ... Pearl clutchers need not apply.

I was not sure I would enjoy this as much as I wasn't sure I was into the masked man trope. I wasn't but this is still highly enjoyable.

If you've read her Wicked Villains series, this is a fun tie in as it's the next generation. I haven't read all of those books (yet) so it can also be read stand alone.

Divine Intervention: 3/5 stars
I did enjoy this book and there were some good steamy scenes. As the second book in the Black Rose Auction series, it was a good continuation that brought another story to life from the auction that I think Katee set up well in the first book. I absolutely loved the incorporation of Nahuatl lore. BUT, I couldn't give this one 4 starts for three reasons: 1. the world building was almost too much. Don't get me wrong, I want more but in a series from this author. I think they were trying to accomplish too much with the backstory in this one. 2. And, as a result, while the scenes were steamy I didn't really have any real feelings for the characters. 3. I couldn't get used to the characters use of slang and country-isms. I think that works in some books but when it's a book about angels and demons and witches, I couldn't wrap my head around beings that have been alive for centuries saying "Naw, I'm just tryna ..."

Both of these books though made me want to read the others in the series!

Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

WICKED PURSUIT by Katee Robert
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

A spicy, dark, mafia romance retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, and it was executed perfectly. I was blown away by the fact that this was only a little over two hundred pages or so. The author knew how to mix the smut with the plot and keep the story interesting, and keep the reader engaged.
The world building was not rushed. I am definitely going to be reading the rest of the books from this universe.

DIVINE INTERVENTION by R.M. Virtues
⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

In this spicy angels vs. demons retelling of Golielocks we are thrown into what seems to be a massive universe of angels, demons, witches and mortals, and the ultimate fight of Good vs. Evil.
I absolutely enjoyed that aspect of the story. However, I didn't enjoy that the world building was too much too fast, and this story was just rushed way too fast for my liking. The romance storyline was a bit much for me, but that's not saying others won't enjoy it because I know many will.
I just wish that there was more to this story, and I'm hoping that there will be future books written to show us readers all this universe has to offer - past, present, and future.

Overall, I would recommend it!

Big thanks to Katee Robert; R.M. Virtues and Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for a review.

This is a 2 in 1 book, in the same world with a little crossover.

Wicked Pursuit - This is Little Red Riding Hood with a twist.
A stalker and a woman who has no issues with pushing the line.
A life that becomes a little dull needs to be awoken with a little devilish fun. Breaking apart a long term relationship to fall into the hands of pure evil, evil who has an obsession with owning.

I loved this. And the twist at the end caught me off guard. I did not see it coming, but I LOVED IT! A wolf in sheep's skin, if you will.

Divine Intervention
Angels are sent down to Earth to collect a special item. Unfortunately, there are past relationship issues that make the group less than compatible, until of course an old acquittance shows up, looking for the same item.
There was a bit of the Goldilocks tale to this, but loosely.

I had a harder time enjoying Divine Intervention. There was just a massive info dump with less clarity on world building, relationships, and character description. I could only picture Dany DeVito as the Papa character in my mind which is not who I want to picture during the steamy scenes. Even with Dany being funny as hell.

5 full stars for Wicked Pursuit, but 3 stars for Divine Intervention
4 stars for in the middle

ARC obtained through NetGalley - thank you to the author's and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.

Wicked Pursuit:
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh my goodness, now Katee Roberts is one of my favourite authors so when I see this on netgalley, I snatched this up right away.

Wicked pursuit is little red riding remix - a mob princess with a taste for doing things she shouldn't acquires a stalker who will kill anyone who touches what's his. Now this little short story blew me away, I loved it from the beginning, there's a plot twist that I did not see coming! If you liked Haunting Adeline then this little short story is for you.

There's stalking, mafia lifestyle and kink play....

Divine Intervention:
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Now I did struggle a little bit with this one probably because I jumped straight from Wick Pursuit into this but I did enjoy it nonetheless. There's a lot of world building which wasn't my favourite but I loved the storyline with heaven and hell and games.

This one is a goldilocks re-telling with angels & demons and forbidden love.

I do feel like this short story would of been better as an actual full length book.

But I would recommend both of these books if your in a reading slump or just want to read a short story!

These are the first two books in the recently released Black Rose Auction series. These were smutty, dark, and fun.

First up is Wicked Pursuit by Katee Roberts. The foreword warns it gets dark and that is accurate. Roberts has a series of mafia romance retellings inspired by the mouse. This is the next generation.

This was a dark, messy, smutty good time. It has reckless behavior, a body count, and high heat. This is the stuff dark romance theydies make content about. I am very motivated to go back to the beginning of the Wicked series but this works on its own.

I haven’t read R. M. Virtues prior to Divine Intervention and I definitely would again. I tried to find more about their backlog but it looks like this is either the first or second in a series that focuses on angels and demons. Where Roberts work was firmly grounded in reality, this has magic, monsters, and more. I’m curious to dive deeper into the auction series and see who else has realities bumping up against each other.

Much like Roberts, Virtues does a good job balancing the heat and the plot. The auction site is considered neutral ground but that doesn’t stop plotting, maneuvering, and fornicating from happening. A spicy good time in a world where the stories are just beginning. 4/5 for both
