Fun read but...

I love Vlad's imagination. He gets that the twist and turns of cultural integration require some respect of the differences and that those differences open possibilities.

The one thing that continues to annoy me about his writing is his depiction of women. Most of his male characters are nuanced to some degree or another but he does tend to write women as fairly flat and one dimensional. They are for the most part tropes, and the male characters treat them as such.

The books are fun but they just miss the depths required to make them really good 5 star reads.

Fun Book, Good Sequel

This book is an improvement on the first in the series - frequently sequels have a drop in quality and a rushed feel, but this is the opposite. A lot of the problems of the first book aren’t present - there is less reliance on trope knowledge, the characters act more naturally. The main character is still somewhat of a Mary-Stu/Gary-Stu, but that has also been reduced. There is a focus on the limits of their resources that adds an underlying tension present thoughtout the book which keeps every interaction interesting. This series seems to have a slow-burn progression and I’m looking forward to seeing where the author goes with it.

Recommended.

Another Page Turns

The #2 book is a handful of interesting twists and turns too. Bucks leadership skills are at work again. I am really surprised by some of the changes and improvements he has been a part of since they arrived. I guess we will see what happens in the next book, due out in August.

I like this book

I enjoyed the development of the World and the introduction of new races and the possible outcome. I think the book has opened new potential and power. Keep up the good work

A Fun Read

Second book in the series. An easy read, rather simple, but I can’t help but feel good about it. Lots of new characters and twists, plus expanding on the original characters. It’s very entertaining. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

I only got a few pages in before the author started dumping politically motivated lies into the text for no reason. I barely got past that junk in the last book, and there was far more of it much earlier in this one.

Book 2 was good, now I'm buying book 3

I enjoy this author's books, but this series most of all.
I'm halfway through the series and I find myself regretting that there aren't more than 4 books in the series.
As with most book series' they need to be read in order.

Settlement book 2 (Stranded)

Well, Buck certainly has his hands full. A Ducal kingdom to create and grow, people and lands to tame, an economy to create and grow, just about everything to learn.

Been a very interesting journey so far, lets see how it continues!

Entertaining Read

Buck continues to expand the enterprises in his duchy. There is plenty of work but not enough workers, so he recruits people from a wider area. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.

You get used to the magic

As always a very active imagination is busy with a sequential series of innovations to introduce. this author has a very keen understanding of human nature. There will always be those who want to cheat to be more important.

Made this old man daydream again

Simply this: Avorham created a world that was believable, also fantastical, with characters that made believable rational choices, enough to immerse me in his world and have me daydreaming about it. That hasn't happened in quite some time!

Building on what came with them

They have established the Duchy of America in this place. Now they need to make it grow with help from dwarves, gnomes and other allies.

Another good entry in this fast moving but interesting series.

New species abound as new territories are explored. The need for capital requires a stock market to support and replace, in necessary, the current bartering practices.

Horrible

Horrible, but I admire the author's courage to build a story around economics and medieval society with such a poor understanding of these topics.

Good read. I laughed a lot while reading this book. Now I need ten more words to finish this review.
