Is anyone ever truly prepared to face the sins of their past?
Jordan Miles, revered CEO of Miles Therapeutics, finds himself at the center of a scandal when he is arrested for his wife’s murder. Determined to salvage his reputation and prove his innocence, he turns to the one person he believes can hunt down the real killer.
Enter Brooklyn Sloane, a former FBI profiler who has spent her career tracking serial murderers. While she typically steers clear of ongoing investigations, her personal friendship with Jordan compels her to take the case. The police allege that Jordan shot his wife point blank during an argument in their bedroom, but Brook doesn’t believe for a moment that he is guilty. What secrets has his wife taken to her grave?
With the clock ticking and the pressure mounting, Brook warns Jordan that their search for the truth could shatter the illusion of his perfect life. As she and the team peel back the layers of Jordan’s seemingly ideal existence, they soon realize the cost of redemption may be higher than they ever dared imagine.
Kennedy Layne is a USA Today bestselling author. She draws inspiration for her romantic thrillers in part from her not-so-secret second life as a wife of a retired Marine Master Sergeant. He doubles as her critique partner, beta reader, and military consultant. Kennedy also has a deep love for cozy mysteries, thrillers, and basically any book that can keep her guessing until the very end. They live in the Midwest with their menagerie of pets. The loyal dogs and mischievous cats appreciate her writing days as much as she does, usually curled up in front of the fireplace.
Another amazing story by Kennedy Layne, following Brook and her team while they unravel an active murder case. Jordan Miles on occasion loans Brook’s team, the use of his private jet. When he’s arrested for his wife’s murder, he calls Brook claiming his innocence and asking for help to find out who murdered his wife.
Interesting plot twist with Brook’s brother….I’m looking forward to the next book🙌
I’m so tired of hearing about heat sources. Space heaters, fire places, car heaters, heated driveways, coffee mugs. So many wasted words. Over & over in every book. I want to hear details of activities, not about temperature, or the middle button of the dress coat being buttoned & unbuttoned, and putting gloves on or in pockets. I hate to sound harsh but there is so much filler and so little main story arc. It’s really gotten frustrating. I’ve gotten through 12 books and know nearly nothing about Jacob & Brooks life’s. The individual cases solved each book is interesting, but no development of the characters personal lives. Things happen but it is told more like a news report after the fact. I want to experience each occurrence. When Brooke found her best friend, why haven’t we heard every detail of what happened? With her & her parents? And the town? Why didn’t we get to be with Silvia in her attack? Or with any of them meeting the new significant others. Why weren’t we there when Coco was selected, presented & names. That would have been such a joy for them. Only one holiday was described over a 2 year time span. We got more detail of Jacob going into Graham’s home than we have of Jacob’s whole childhood. It’s time, I want the meat of a story. Not just a summary or list of events in their lives.
Evil touches our lives every day. We don’t always see it, hear it, or touch it…but it’s there all the same. Follow along as Brooklyn Sloane, a former consultant for the FBI, takes on cold cases that are thrown on a random desk to gather dust without a second thought to the victims’ families left behind. She knows all too well what it’s like to be the one left with nothing but unanswered questions. Her renowned career as a federal profiler was built on apprehending only the most notorious serial killers who made the front page of the national newspapers. Unfortunately, she failed to bring to justice the one who stained her soul—her very own brother. He is still out there hunting, but she fully intends to be the one who ends his reign of terror.
Blinded by Sin is the twelfth book in the Touch of Evil Series by Kennedy Layne. Touch of Evil is a gripping blend of psychological intrigue, suspense, and raw emotion and follows Brooklyn Sloane, a former FBI consultant turned private investigator, as she tackles cold cases and confronts her own haunting past. Brooklyn is a standout FMC – she’s intelligent, determined, and yet deeply flawed. Her relentless pursuit of justice, particularly as she hunts for her estranged brother, who is a cunning serial killer, definitely added extra intrigue as well as a deeply personal layer to the overarching story. Ms. Layne seems to easily manage to delve into Brooklyn’s psyche while also maintaining the tension of the mysteries. Each book is a carefully crafted puzzle, with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. The dark, moody tone is balanced by moments of vulnerability and humanity, making the characters feel real and very relatable. Ms. Layne’s writing is sharp and evocative, painting vivid scenes that draw you into the world of crime and justice. It’s a must-read for anyone who enjoys a story that challenges the mind and tugs at the heartstrings. Prepare to be captivated - and maybe even a little haunted - by this unforgettable series. Happy Reading…
I have a hard time feeling sorry for all those involved in this one. All of them were not good people on different levels, Mara especially didn't deserve what happened to her. I think how Jordon is left at the end, knowing his actions brought on everything and how many people's lives they ruined is the best punishment for him.
I did like how Brook worked with the one police detective. You could tell at first he was annoyed with them, but when he started to see the results, he was all for working with them.
I do wish that there had been more with Jacob. It seems like we are getting closer to a big showdown between him and Brook. I so want Brook to best him and do so in a way that the threat of him is over for good for her and she can finally let her walls down and those she keeps around her fully in.
4⭐️ ugh these goddamn books are so good. I love the concept of Brooke, of the whole team really. I need to go back through and re read the series honestly. I hope sylvia reaches out to Derek haze because she totally deserves it and im happy she's getting the house. I love reading the characters development between Theo and Bit, and the growing of Theo and Brooke's friendship. this is a series thats a nice break from my usual fantasy, romance books, and they're such good thrillers - like seriously I loved this book, really enjoyed it and the ending... again...with jacob when is he going to stop? like seriously overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. the series is so cozy to me

In this book a billionaire with whom Brook has some kind of history asks for her help when he is accused of murdering his wife. Brook and her team take the case. I did not guess who the real murderer was. I thought that story moved quickly and was well done. We get an update on her brother's case at the end that sets up the next book. I highly recommend this series and can't wait for the next book.
Love this series. You finally get to meet the guy that loans them the plane. Very interesting conclusion to the story., I was very surprised. Now I have to wait till number 13 comes out. At least it won't be to long. Not has long has number 14, 2026. I should of read this one a little slower but I just had to find out what was what. Once you start reading, you don't want to stop. Check the series out if you haven't already, Kennedy Layne will get you hooked.
I have a Love/Hate relationship with these books. On the one hand, the writing style irritates me, but on the other, the underlying stories are pretty engaging!
This is probably one of the best in the series, not over loaded with characters and bloated descriptions like its predecessors. A bit lacking on the Jacob storyline development though. I’ve also just realised that I have no idea how many books are to come… I thought the last book was the final in the series.. Will we ever find out what happens!!
This was a fun one to try and figure out. As usual, I love how the team came together to solve the murder. Although I missed Graham being in the story more. Next book sound amazing! Can’t wait
Almost put this read off until new book is nearly out, I almost wish I had but have become addicted to this author which speaks volumes. This book as usual will keep you guessing.
It was GREAT to read the 12th book in this series‼️‼️I honestly couldn’t put it down & I was up all night reading. Seeing how the characters development more in each book is really enjoyable. I can’t wait for book number 13 to be released‼️
UGH. I want more. 1) WHY end on such a cliffhanger when the next book comes out in JANUARY?! What am I supposed to do 😓 2) I wish she went into Brooke/Jordan’s background more because it still is strangely superficial and we didn’t learn any of their secrets
The characters involved in the murder case just didn’t do it for me, I did enjoy how the team and the local detective worked together. Things are definitely heating up with her brother, and I'm intrigued to see where that goes!
I enjoyed this book showing how Brook and her team have become a tight knit team with real lives now. The murder mystery is excellently written. It's always hard to figure out the murderer. There are some twists with Jacob too.
I’m a huge fan of this series. I did not see that end coming. And I’m nervous about the next book. I’m ready for Jacob to get his due. But not further series to end!
I loved this book!! I loved the entire series!! The only problem??? Note I’ve gotta wait an entire year for the next installment!!! I kept trying to show down while I was reading it, but just like every other Kennedy Layne book, especially the Sin series, I inhaled it!!! Read the series!! If you have not tried Kennedy Layne books yet, well that’s on you!! I can lead a horse to water but I can’t make it drink!!! Read. The Series!!!
A solid mystery, but I wanted more depth around the killer’s mindset. I also wish the series gave us a bit more follow-up on how each case affects the core cast who lost someone. Still, the chemistry between Brook and her crew remains the highlight.
