This is a Romantic Suspense. I listened to the audiobook for this book, and I really enjoyed this audiobook. This is a fast paced story that is full of action/suspense and great characters. I really loved the characters, and I love that Diana (the main female character) was a strong character that did not let any walk over her. I loved this story, and the ending was great. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Firefighter Diana Cameron was on her way to her mountain home in upstate New York when a massive explosion rocked her world. “A gigantic ball of light” momentarily blinds her. Grabbing the fire extinguisher from her vehicle she races ahead to find a lodge, the back entirely engulfed in flames. She rushes inside to see if there are any survivors. The smoke is thick and she finds a dead man and a dead woman but it wasn’t the fire that killed them, both had bullet wounds to the head. Then she hears a soft sob, creeps on her hands and knees, and finds “a small bundle curled up in a corner.” A child still alive, with no gunshot wounds. As she lifts the child and runs for safety there is another explosion. She lands hard, protecting the child, but someone is shooting at them. The sheriff arrives but the shooter gets away.

Diana knows the child is a witness to what happened inside the lodge. To protect her the sheriff calls in Chase Mitchell, a bodyguard who works for Jameson Investigations. They need to keep the child safe while others work to identify the victims to figure out who killed them and why. With gunmen on their tail, they go deep into the wilderness to protect and hide the little witness not knowing if the truth will set her free.

This story starts with a swift pace that will have you on the edge of your seat and doesn’t let up until the end. During that time we meet Diana and Chase, both strong individuals but dealing with some demons from their past. Unsure about each other but united in keeping a little girl safe. They know they need to trust each other to survive the madness happening around them but they are filled with guilt from their past where they failed others. Diana suffered a huge betrayal. Chase a huge loss. Diana leans on her faith, while Chase has given up on his.

There were a slew of twists and turns but the one where what was truly happening was revealed stopped me in my tracks. Vile, evil, wicked, depraved, corrupt, and heinous are the words that flew to the top of my head. Chase and Diana must draw strength from each other and God to survive the ordeal. I was very emotional reading the last pages.

Courage. Danger. Faith. Chase and Diana were courageous to put themselves in such danger. Their faith in God was renewed when they survived and kept little Emmie safe. After a story filled with suspense and danger, the author slows things down with an Epilogue that will warm your heart and boost your own faith.

Hiding the Witness is an action-filled story that if you are like me you will read it all in one sitting because it is impossible to put down. Ms. Alexander gives us genuine characters with depth, and flaws, who evolve in ways that change their lives by making both of them stronger. I highly recommend this story for all who enjoy suspense with a clean romance.

Firefighter Diana Cameron has had a rough week and is looking forward to some down time when an explosion lights up the sky ahead. She finds a cabin on fire with a male and a female corpse and a three-year-old girl. As she rescues the child, someone shoots at them. The local sheriff, Naomi, runs the sniper off. Naomi teams her brother, bodyguard Chase Mitchell up with Diana to protect the little girl, Emmie. Someone seems desperate to kill Diana and Emmie for they try to attack them in the hospital.

Diana and Chase each have painful pasts that haunt them and that inspire them to do whatever it takes to protect Emmie, but their assailant seems to have plenty of hired guns and money. Their questions are: Who? Why?

This is the first book I've read by Deena Alexander. The suspense hits hard and fast, keeping this reader turning pages. I look forward to reading more by her.

After meeting the Jameson Investigations team in Hunted for the Holidays, I’ve been eager for another chance to see this team of bodyguard agents in action. So I was thrilled to learn that Alexander’s latest romantic suspense, Hiding the Witness, would also involve these highly skilled men & women. And wow! It was another intense ride!

From the moment that first explosion rocks Diana’s commute from her shift at the fire station to her cozy mountain home, I knew this would be another great read from a favorite author. But when she races into the burning cabin, finds the executed bodies, and runs out with a traumatized little girl in her arms – only to face a hail of gunfire for her troubles – I was completely hooked. In fact, I couldn’t have put down the book for any reason short of an explosion or a hail of gunfire in real life. Thankfully, neither of those worst case scenarios happened (to me, anyway. Can’t say that was the last of it, or the worst of it, for poor Diana.) and I was able to devour the riveting story uninterrupted.

Enter Chase, who agrees to guard Diana and little Emmie as a favor to his sister. If he seems a bit scowly at first, despite an occasional roguish grin, it’s because he has reason to be… and learning his story broke my heart. Honestly, though, it’s hard to tell who is carrying more guilt and trauma – Chase or Diana – and their emotional, high-stakes fight to survive will force them not only to confront their own painful layers but share their respective stories with the other person, too. A first step toward some much-needed healing, and a process I appreciated Alexander including for these characters.

Bottom Line: Hiding the Witness by Deena Alexander starts off with a bang – well, really, a boom – and keeps the tension high and my heart in my throat from there on out. Chase, Diana, and precious little Emmie easily won me over, and I had to keep reminding myself to breathe as danger nipped ever closer at their heels. The author skillfully moves the story forward in every scene, not leaving the characters – or, delightfully, readers – much time to catch their breath until the sweet epilogue that reminds us all that, though weeping may last for a time, joy does indeed find us again.

Themes of faith, compassion, and hope blend with fast-paced action to make this an outstanding piece of work in the inspirational romantic suspense genre . . .

Firefighter Diana Cameron struggles to overcome the demons and nightmares that still visit her after a traumatic event in her life four years ago. She thought she had moved beyond that tragedy only to find herself thrust into another run for her life.

On her way home from the firehouse one evening, Diana witnesses a loud explosion and eventually enters a burning cabin to do her job. Inside she finds a young girl who is unconscious along with two deceased adults. Her instincts kick into action, and Diana carries the girl to safety.

Chase Mitchell, a former FBI agent, is assigned to act as the bodyguard for Diana and the young child. He appears to be tightly-wound and unfriendly at the outset, but he is dedicated to keeping his two charges safe.

The group of individuals pursuing Diana and the young girl are ceaseless in their attempts to capture the pair. Chase is experienced and skilled at evading assailants, but the villains continue to increase the heat as they grow desperate to catch the trio.

My favorite angle of this story was the compassion and care both Diana and Chase bestowed upon the little girl. They took her safety and well-being into consideration at every turn in the story. Readers will pick up on the tension that both adults exhibit as the story moves forward.

The author masterfully reveals secrets and traumas that Diana and Chase have experienced each in their past at the right and perfect time much to the satisfaction of fans of this genre.

After a seemingly unending string of dangerous events created by the author, the truth is discovered. This plot involves a topical subject, and I feel as if it's not something often discussed in everyday life. The author's choice of this theme leads the main characters to lean on their faith and discuss their personal background experiences allowing them to grow as individuals and as a couple.

This story is completely clean in content and language. I received a copy of this book from the author through Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours. All of my opinions and thoughts shared here are solely my own.

Hiding the Witness by Deena Alexander pits money against decency and love.

Will Diana and Chase keep Emmie safe?

Diana Cameron
Our heroine is Diana Cameron. She is a firefighter and tough, but she doesn't trust easily. However, she has made a few exceptions, like the local sheriff and a few of her firefighter friends. Other than that, she keeps to herself.

I like Diana; she has real grit and inner strength that she doesn't let many people see. Honestly, she would be the truest of friends. I bet she will be a fantastic mother.

Chase Mitchell
Our hero is Chase Mitchell. He is a former FBI agent, brother to the local sheriff, and now an investigator for Zac Jameson. Chase also has trust issues. One of his operations went wrong, costing him his wife and nephew. He hasn't been able to forgive himself for that yet.

I like Chase. He tries hard to hide his feelings by being grumpy and gruff, but deep down, he is a protective teddy bear. He and Diana click well together.

Five Stars
My rating for Hiding the Witness by Deena Alexander is five stars. Ms. Alexander does a fabulous job of transporting us to the mountains of upstate New York and keeps the suspense and thrills coming with our couple moving from one dangerous escapade to the next.  I highly recommend this inspirational romantic suspense.

Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of Hiding the Witness by Deena Alexander.

Whoa – what a compelling romantic suspense! I listened to the audio edition, and I have to say that narrator Alexis Vandom’s performance increased my appreciation of the storytelling that much more. The way she delivers the dialogue – especially when Diana and Chase are sniping at each other — just brilliant! She draws out the tension, infuses emotion into these characters and just made the story more engaging for me. Excellent narration.

And the story? Phew! High-octane intrigue from the get go. Excellent pacing. Even though the danger is relentless and Chase and Diana face endless obstacles, the author creates enough breathing space for a believable relationship to develop. And that sweet little girl they are protecting adds a poignant touch to the story. As does the inspirational thread the author has deftly woven throughout – even in the midst of uncertain peril.

I need to read more of Deena Alexander’s novels, including catching up on her backlist because it looks like this book is part of a series featuring Chase’s private security team. (No worries though – it reads well as a standalone.) But I’m intrigued now that I’ve met the whole gang and I need to know all their stories.

My thanks to Harlequin Audio and Net Galley for providing me with an audio edition of this novel.

Firefighter Diana Cameron is driving home when she sees a cabin burning. Her instincts immediately kick in as she runs into the danger. There she finds 2 bodies riddled with gunshots, an unconscious little girl and it seems a sniper determined to end their lives.
Chase Mitchell, former law enforcement and now a member of Jameson Investigations is the brother of her boss. A boss that assigns Chase as Diana’s bodyguard.
Determined to keep the child alive and finding out who wants her dead, has Chase and Diana working together. Both of them have a great deal of baggage and feelings of guilt from occurrences from their past, but will do everything and anything to keep the child safe.
As they do, feelings develop. But can they let go of the past and be willing to be open to a future together?
This was an engaging, action packed, clean Christian suspense romance filled with well developed and likable main characters. Definitely worth your time.
Lastly, narrator Alexis Vandom brings the story to life.

I always feel bad when a child is in danger. I really want to get the culprit. I could not put this book down. Diana is already a hero. She is a firefighter then when hearing the blast runs towards danger and into the frying pan. She was a character to really like. She was hurt in the past. However she never gave up on God. Chase is a hero in his own right. He is a bodyguard who risks his life to protect others. He also has a past. His past however leads him to lose his faith. Their past traumas add to the drama and suspense of the story. The villains after them are determined and violent. They are in never ending danger. Not only is Diana attacked by a sniper, but she also gets chased to a roof top. The action is ongoing and I was drawn into the story. I was nervous for these characters. Especially Emmie, a poor child stuck in the middle. They escape to the wilderness, only to face a new set of obstacles. After finding out the killer's plans, I was furious. He got what he deserved. His partners were also found. The ending was sweet and I hope to read about these characters. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review, all opinions are my own.

Diana Cameron is a firefighter with the Shadycreek Fire Department. As she is heading home to her isolated cabin there is an explosion and fire erupts. Diana enters a burning cabin searching for survivors. She finds two bodies that have been shot in the head –execution style. She then stumbles over an unconscious child—praying she has not been shot. Hiding the Witness by Deena Alexander is a suspenseful story. I liked the main characters, Diana and Chase. I was pleased that Diana was a strong female character who can take care of herself. Diana, though, is struggling to overcome an event that happened four years prior. Chase has demons of his own. The author did a wonderful job of revealing the character’s past traumas at just the right time. It was sweet how Diana and Chase cared for the little girl. They were compassionate and determined to keep the girl safe. I enjoyed the action and suspense. It had me turning the pages to learn what would happen next. Faith was beautifully woven into the story and the ending left me smiling. Hiding the Witness is an exciting tale with a cabin conflagration, a defenseless child, flying bullets, a guarded bodyguard, determined criminals, frightening nightmares, and profound prayers.

Action packed with a sweet child

Firefighter Diana is driving home late one night when she hears an explosion. As she rushes to help, she finds 2 dead people and Emmie, a 2-to 3-year-old girl. Chase is called in by his sister to protect them both and then things start happening even faster! Can Chase and Diana keep Emmie safe? Can the get past the pain in their past to reach out to each other? Read this to find out!

The pace is breakneck and the tone is intense with an action and character oriented storyline that has a few kisses. The characters are vibrant and engaging. The Christian ideals are subtle but present. This isn't a series, but 2 secondary characters were in a previous story that I plan on reading too! I hope that Zac and Naomi will get their story sometime soon, please!

Hiding the Witness is another exciting Love Inspired Suspense book from Deena Alexander! It’s the second book in the Jameson Investigations series, but as with all Love Inspired Suspense books, it can be read as a standalone.

When Diana Cameron, a small town firefighter, comes upon a cabin fire on her way home, she does what she’s trained to do. What she finds inside will change her life. Two dead bodies. Not dead from smoke inhalation but from bullet wounds. She rescues the only survivor, a little girl whom she races outside only to be shot at! Now she knows for sure that there’s much more to this than just a fire.

Chase Mitchell is a member of Jameson Investigations, an elite team with a skillset Diana needs. Diana’s boss also happens to be Chase’s sister, and Diana and the little girl now find themselves with Chase as their protector and bodyguard. The three go on the run and try to stay ahead of whoever is after this little girl.

I love the Forced Proximity trope under which Hiding the Witness falls. Diana and Chase are together 24/7, and during this time, they eventually open up to each other about traumatic events that haunt them. Both characters feel as if they’ve failed others in the past, so they have a hard time trusting themselves to keep each other safe. They’re strong as individuals but they’re so guilt-ridden. They eventually realize that it’s God who is in control, and they need to trust him and give their guilt to him.

The plot is fast-paced and very suspenseful. The subject matter that this book revolves around (I won’t spoil it!) is something very real. Evil exists in this world, but when you put your trust in God, you realize that in the end, good wins because God wins. Hiding the Witness will have you turning the pages to find out exactly what is going on!

I highly recommend Hiding the Witness for its exciting, fast-paced plot, well-developed characters, and clean romance. 5 huge stars!

Whoa! What a ride. This story moves fast from the beginning. The suspense is high octane.
I enjoyed following the story and speculating along with the characters what was behind the pursuit of this little girl.
In the midst of fire, Diana and Chase learn to work together to protect a little girl.
Both have been burned in the past. It’s what makes the love that develops that much sweeter.
I like the narrator for the audiobook. The voices and speech from different characters was clear to understand, and I liked listening to her voice.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin Audio for the chance to listen to this book.

This was a wonderful surprise! For a 5 dollar harlequin style story it was awesome! Diana, a firefighter was on her way home when an explosion happened. She was first on the scene and went into the burning cabin to find 2 murdered people and a small girl. On her way out she is shot at by a sniper. The police chief calls upon her brother to keep Diana and Emmie safe. But it’s tough because the bad guys are everywhere hunting them down. Who are they and why? Chase calls in his team to get the the bottom of it and keep them safe. Edge of your seat excitement on every page, likeable characters, plausible situations and no loose ends! I’ll surely read more of this series!

Hiding the Witness by Deena Alexander and narrated by Alexis Vandorn is a romantic suspense. Firefighter Diana sees an explosion and races to a house in fire and sees 2 dead bodies and a little girl hiding. Rescuing her makes Diana a target along with the little girl. Chase Mitchell is assigned to be their bodyguard. Can they keep the child safe? Why are they trying to get this child? Lots of action and suspense. Entertaining Read. I had to think hard before giving this book a rating. It’s more of a 4.5 than a 5, but definitely better than a 4. I like the characters and how they try to avoid getting emotionally involved, but at the same time, they provide love a support to one scared little girl. My problem is that the antagonist is just too uninvolved, while at the same time is totally, and completely evil. But it was fast paced, and it kept the reader on their toes. It also doesn’t hurt that the characters are people of faith.

It’s good reading for a rainy afternoon.

This book caught my attention quickly and kept me listening easily. I kept coming back to the story and wanting to hear more of what was going to happen next. Chase and Diana are strong characters and they made me want to root for their success. This was definitely a thrilling story and I'm hoping to read more of the related series in the near future. I enjoyed the audiobook narration also; professionally done and easy to listen to.

First read for author Deena Alexander and from the first page - it hit the ground running!

This read takes you on the journey of Chase & Diana's race to save a child - but from who? At every turn Diana is trying to protect a little girl, which puts her in the crosshairs of a killer and when the little girl is returned to a potential killer, they risk it all to save a child and maybe a chance at love too.

A quick read that holds your attention and leaves you satisfied in the end.
