A great second instalment in The Old Tales series. I enjoyed the continuation of the characters we met in the first. A quick and fun read.

I received A Voice in The Tower, the second instalment of The Old Tales series, as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Firstly, I want to say thanks for this copy!! Along with the first instalment, Song of the Deep.

This story was amazing, start to finish. Very easy to follow and read, I read it in one day. Each line is addicting, everything flows together nicely. I really love the multi-pov chapters, and the little designs at the beginning of each chapter. I think it’s such a nice and creative twist. It was a lovely and refreshing retelling.
I really liked going from the first book to this one, and getting to see more development of the characters we already read about, including some new ones. Greggory especially, such a cute addition!!

This next part of my review contains spoilers…
I loved the drama of seeing Riva promised to Gadrel and leaving her home with him, and then the story flicks to Charles being so happy to finally be able to send a marriage proposal to Riva. It added a lot of mystery to the story.
Also, I’m not sure if this is just the enemies to lovers fan in me, but in the beginning, I was kinda hoping for Riva to end up falling for Gadrel. She described him as being somewhat attractive, and then when he gave her the hair cuffs, seemingly as a nice gesture, I was all for this pair to be endgame. But then the twist of when she tried running from the bar, and she couldn’t because Gadrel had magic in the hair cuffs… then I was Team Charles for sure. So I’m really happy with the ending, that Riva and Charles got their happy ever after.

One thing that I will say was in chapter three (page fourteen), when Riva goes into the throne room to meet with her father upon his request. It introduces him as “King Gerald”, but then anytime after he is mentioned, his name is “King Francis”. Not sure if I’m reading something wrong, but it looks like a mistake with his name! Of course, doesn’t hinder the story at all though, but thought I would mention it.

Overall, I really loved this story and the characters. If you’re looking for a story with fairytale vibes, royalty, magic, and a bit of romance… you’re in the right place!
I’m really excited to see what else comes of The Old Tales series!

I really enjoyed this book. Probably more so than the first in the series (I never realised they tied in together until a few chapters in!)

It was a nice middle length read, kept me entertained and it was less easy to guess where the story was going to lead.

The characters were great and the love between Charles and Riva was so cute to read.

My favorite part? This: “The court would talk for nearly a week of how the princess couldn’t wait to marry Charles and practically dragged the king to the altar in her hurry.”

I was selected as an ARC reader for this book in exchange for an honest review. I throughly enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick read that gave Rapunzel vibes. I’m going to have to go back and read Song of the Deep (the Old Tales book 1) because Sym and Dereck were two of my favorite charters. If you’re looking for a book with a little romance, a little magic and evil wizards, this book is absolutely for you!

It took me a bit to realize that the different POVs are marked by the same symbol in the top left corner of each chapter page. I also thought that was a fun way to show whose POV it was without listing the name.

Just great !! Loved how again it all was just well laid out , easy to read, easy to picture everything as if I was watching it on a tv!
Loved that Charles and Derek got to go on a wee quest together before Charles was no longer able to get away with leaving the palace.
Loved how Riva no matter where she went had the love and loyalty from all villagers.
Gadrel was such a creepy ole man that I feel would have smelt of old cigarettes, moth balls and clothes that had been damp for a week 😅
C.H Lynn has done yet another incredible job in this book and I’m so looking forward to the next one 😍

I was gifted a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

CH Lyn's A Voice in the Tower is the second book in the Old Tales series, and honestly I'm in LOVE.  I love how CH Lyn writes the dialogue and interactions of the characters in this world, and cannot wait to see more of the Old Tales in the future.  This Rapunzel retelling was beautiful, and I think the best summary of events is this quote from early in the book that I adored, which was "true love and anger.  That's what will get this done".  😍
A Voice in the Tower releases June 14th, and I look forward to grabbing a physical copy the next time I'm in the big smoke!

I received an ARC digital copy of this book and am so thankful for it. I absolutely love our FMC Riva. She is amazing and lovable. I felt an instant connection to her. The fact that Charles and Derek are able to go on a quest together and Derek is able to see what a great choice Charles is for king was perfect. I love all the changes Charles made and how he looks out for everyone knowing what it feels like to be overlooked. Lastly Sym, I am obsessed with her and would love to have more of her story in the future. Hopefully CH Lyn is going to continue this series in the future.

I loved this book! It was a nice quick story! The Rapunzel retelling was great and it was fun to be back with the characters and see how they are dealing with the changes that happened at the end of the first book. Definitely would recommend this book!!!

I received this book as an ARC in return for honest review.

This is a great second book by CH Lyn. It could be a stand alone but it was great to read as a character extension of the first book Song of the Deep, which was an updated version of Little Mermaid.

Easy to read and character development. As well as continuation of characters made me enjoy this book!

I mean what can I say? I love me a retelling/reimagining.

This was a great new take of a classic fairytale. Riva was a firecracker. What a wonderful FMC to fall in love with. She is strong, resilient, crafty, and hopeful. This story left me rooting for her the whole time. I loved the magic aspect, brought into the story from different perspectives. I didn't feel like there were any parts of the story that were lulls. The characters were believable and (most) were lovable. The dual POV/timeline kept things interesting. What a wonderful story. 10/10 recommend if you are looking for something lighter to read, or a fun fairytale.

It felt like watching a movie. The writing captivated me, and I was able to feel like I was really there. I can't wait to dive into more work by C.H. Lyn!

“A Voice In The Tower”
Author: C.H. Lyn

A retelling, of sorts, from your favorite childhood fairytales. The book is written in a unique way he makes it different, but with a familiarity of the past.

The characters are fighters, lovers, and will do anything for those they love. For some they can be relatable in certain characteristics. I love how there is really no main character, they are all equally given their own stories that connect to one another.

The plot is great! A lover trying to find his other half. With twists and turns throughout the book, with some familiar characters in the storyline.

The pacing was pretty fast. It’s an easy book to read and very easy to follow along with the story that is being told.

What I really liked was that it was an easy book to read. It didn’t take me too long to finish it. The characters could be relatable in a lot of ways for some people, and the fact that it touched on certain fairytales from my childhood really made it feel nostalgic. I also really like that at the beginning of each chapter you’ll see a little bit of an illustration at the top of the page that corresponded with the theme of that chapter.

The only thing that I would say that I didn’t like would be that it was so fast-paced and I would’ve liked to have had some build up between the two lovers in the story. I would’ve liked to see more romance between the lovers and maybe a little bit more of a backstory to one of the female main characters.

This book is definitely recommended for the audience that it’s written for. There is not any racy scenes in it. It’s written pretty clean. I would say this book would be for the YA/Fantasy genre. It’s a very enjoyable book. I would definitely read it again and I would recommend this book to family and friends, especially someone who is starting out reading fantasy books or novels. This would be a great introduction to these genre’s.

For me, I would give this book a 3.9 stars out of 5. As an adult I would rather have more racy scenes in it and more romance. I would rate it higher if it had more of a slow paced love story backstory to some of the characters. But for the genre that it is written for I think this would be perfect for them.

If there is a sequel, I would read it because I would like to see what happens with the characters after this, so I’m hoping that there is a sequel to this book. I feel like there is a lot of story that could still be told.

In conclusion C.H. Lyn’s “A Voice In The Tower” was beautifully written and so descriptive to where you could actually envision the scenes of this book in your mind. It really puts you into the middle of the story yourself. The imagination, the storytelling, and the characters really take you into a world that you feel is real.

✨ ARC Review ✨

Such an original and cute book! It's sometimes hard to find books that are truly different and unique, but A Voice in the Tower (as well as the first in the series, Song of the Deep) definitely is that!

This is a reimagining of Rapunzel and puts a empowering spin on the old 'damsel in distress' trope.

📚 Riva is the second born daughter to the king of Faytrue, a kingdom who is not the rich and powerful place it used to be and in financial trouble. She also has magic that she doesn't know how to control and a father who is scared to let her show it (and crazy long hair that has a mind of its own). So when a wizard comes and offers to wed her  teach her how to use her magic, Princess Riva's father jumps at the chance.

Instead of being the helpful and generous man he portrayed, the wizard is only after harnessing Riva's magic for himself and locks her in a tower. Riva's true love, Prince Charles of Cerulean, goes on a quest with his brother, a sea witch, and a talking mouse named Gregory 🐭

Honestly this was such a refreshing read.

Main takeaways: don't hide your magic and be proud of your power

A voice in the Tower by C. H. Lyn is the second book in The Old Tales series and it is a Rapunzel retelling.

This is a short read with a powerful FMC, True love, Cinnamon roll prince, multiple POV and it’s easy to read. The story is told from Charles and Riva's POV's and I loved them. There was more world building in this book and it works perfect with this storyline. I love how the story includes the different aspects of other fairytales like the Golden goose and the glass slippers. We also get Derek's POV as his and Sym, the See Witch's , story continues in this book.

The book ended was perfect. I am looking forward to read the next book by the author.

Thank you so much @kelsgrace.pa and @chlyn.author for sending me a copy of this book.

One thing I love is a fairytale retelling and this Rapunzel, retelling doesn’t change that. Such a new approach to the classic tale. I’m slowly becoming a massive fan of CH Lyn.

Riva is a loveable, strong willed woman who actually fights back. It’s great to see her deal with all the problems she faces through the story including her own family, her own magic and other people’s and the relationships both good and bad she makes throughout.
A must read for all Rapunzel fans.

Is it bad I have a crush on Lord Gadrel, yeah probably is 😅

Also Derek and Sym (from Song of the deep) are back and I couldn’t be happier,I loved how their story integrated with Riva’s.

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Firstly, I must preface this by saying I am a sucker for a good old fashioned retelling. And this Rapunzel-esque princess is one of my favorites. I also love how it ties in with the first book in the series and we get to see some repeat characters make an appearance along with our protagonists.

Now despite this book being what should be a quick read due to it's length, it did take me the better part of the month to get through it. This isn't a negative, rather a positive, because the author's writing was so immersive that it had me sitting firmly in the princess' shoes at times. Barely a few chapters in, I found myself becoming so angry with Gadrel and the King that I simply had to put the book down and step away for a bit. Then I would come back and be sucked into the story once more only to become enraged at Gadrel yet again. But despite the ups and downs and roller coaster of emotions this book sent me on, it was a wonderful read with a lovely HEA and one that I will be revisiting again I'm sure.

I liked this one even better than the first one! Loved the characters and the fact that we knew them already from Song of the Deep (at least some of them) was great because it helped me get attached easier. The few we didn't know, I adored too, just because they were too charming, as Greggory. He's the best! I want to keep reading more stories with this cast of characters and maybe some new ones as in this book. Also I loved the little Easter eggs from other tales and different fables at the beginning.

A great retelling of Rapunzel!

I love retellings (as you can tell by my account) and this one was as good as the first one! If not better!

We meet Derek again as he has to help his, now the crown prince, brother Charles to save his beloved Riva. Although in the end she more or less saves herself and him. Which I loved! And the way she „sprints“ down the aisle? I love Riva!

But my favourite character is the sea witch! I need more of her. And Greggory! I want to have a book about her and Derek‘s travels! The golden goose and nod to Jack and the beanstalk was just great! And I really hope to read more about Sym and her sass, her history.

Book two in the series is another quick read. I'd say you should read book 1 first in order to know some of the returning characters and their back story.
I enjoy the alternative twists on the well known tales aspect of this series and they're an easy read.
I think for the YA audience it's aimed at it's enjoyable, for me personally I would like more in depth world building and character backstory to feel fully immersed in the fantasy world, which is why I can only give 3 stars.
Thanks to the author for the arc ebook of both books.

This was honestly a super cute Rapunzel retelling! I loved the twist the author had on this tale and definitely enjoyed this novella. The dual POVs were an awesome bonus and made the reading experience all the better for it.
I made the mistake of reading this novella without reading Song of the Deep first, as there were characters and a storyline that fed into this one. I still liked it nonetheless!

ARC REVIEW
Rating: 🌟⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟
Clean read

Who doesn’t love a Tangled retelling?!? I absolutely adored this read and finished it in a single day. It was light and easy in flow. For such a short book, the characters had decent depth and complexity and I enjoyed each one, even the villain. I only wish I knew more of the villain’s story, but regardless I truly enjoyed this read.

This is such a cute book and story!

It’s the second book in the old tales series, a retelling of Rapunzel.

You get to meet some of the last characters in the first book which is fantastic!

A great rescue mission, suppressed powers and an evil wizard.

This was a simple easy read. I really enjoyed it.

C.H. Lyn has done it again and blown me away with how she can take such a well known fairytale and put her own unique twist on it! I loved that we got to continue on with characters from Song of the Deep but also see new ones at the same time and get more character development. One of my favorite characters was Greggory, he’s just so cute :’)

I’m hoping to see more of Derek & Sym eventually…maybe? 👀

4.5/5 stars for me (rounded up on here on goodreads)

It was a short read, I really liked the story, and the characters, they are really so inspiring and interesting. Ans the romance is so cute! There is magic too, so it’s a 5/5 for me!

It is such a cute, quick and fun read! I love how the dual-povs are marked with symbol in each corner when the chapter starts as a cute little way to track who each chapter’s pov is.

The characters are so easy to enjoy and really gets you going into the story!

I will definitely be planning on going back and reading the first book in the series

Another beautiful retelling from CH Lyn! I loved Song of the Deep and A Voice in the Tower was equally as good. I don't know how Cheyenne manages to weave such a beautiful and magical story within these novellas. I could honestly have kept reading a few more chapters into the night. Definitely a must read for all fairy tale lovers!
