A lovingly detailed book, chock full of tables, charts and ready to use content for those working on this concept at the class, school or team levels. Lots to consider and explore, a great and clear unifying metaphor ties it all together neatly.

I purchased Dr Shyam Barr's fantastic book 'Educate to self-regulate' last year. Grounded in solid research, Shyam has simplified a complex area of the human mind, helping us understand self-regulation—a key to effective learning. As a teacher and director of Think Set Go, I particularly enjoyed the diagrams and tables that enhanced the content, making it both enjoyable, easy to follow and implement. Thank you, Shy, for your valuable contributions in this space!

I was fortunate enough to hear Dr Shyam Barr speak at a conference at my school a couple of weeks ago. I was then doubly fortunate as I was gifted a copy of his book by my boss after the conference. It is a relatively slim book, as far as educational tomes go, and as a result, I knocked it off in one day. At the start of the book, Barr steps readers through what Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) is in an accessible manner, but his work is also evidence-backed. In this way, he hits the sweet spot between academic text and pragmatic guide. He then continues on with information on how SRL can be developed in both individual classrooms and at a whole- school level. Barr also explains the NEMO-T model (Name, Explain, Model, Opportunity to practice, active Transfer) and how it can be used to provide students with opportunities to practise different SRL strategies. As a secondary school History and English teacher, I found this book extremely informative and engaging and I have already begun to put elements of what I have learnt into place in my classroom. My library has purchased some further copies of the text, so I look forward to discussing SRL with my colleagues and exploring how we can incorporate it into our teaching and learning.
