I refuse to succumb to the demands of my genes.

Branded as property, the fate of my mate and their unborn babies hangs in the balance. My instincts scream that they are mine, but the cruel realities of our society threaten to tear us apart.
In a race against time, I must gamble everything to safeguard my found family by facing my biological kin.

As lies mount and my primal urges clamor for dominance, I teeter on the precipice of becoming what I despise. Lives hinge on my ability to navigate the treacherous waters of rage and desire where one slip could lose my family to the scientists forever.

Genome is the second book in Malthusia, a gripping dystopian mm series where the solution to overpopulation damns those caught up in the theory.
HFN ending.

Emma is the #1 Amazon Bestselling Author of m/m series such as Paint, Incubus, and Lies.

Known as the Queen of MM angst her books include Sci-fi, paranormal, and contemporary romance and always puts her characters through hell before giving them a HEA. She blames her rebellious muse (who looks like Chris from the Paint Series) for the erotic aspects tickling the angst, and the humor cuddling up with the erotic.

When not writing or reading she herds Birman cats and sons; Both groups argue that the other is too large.

Mir and Tav are back, and I am so, SO thrilled to have been a part of the next leg of their journey!

I feel like saying a lot would reveal too much! But I will say that the two have made it off their isolated farm when their location becomes compromised, and they are called to a family gathering that becomes more and more necessary to attend. BAD IDEA. I absolutely loved the isolation in the first book, where it was just Tav and Mir stuck in a spot, trying to make it work, but I really was so intrigued about them facing each other's pasts. Understandably, I don't think Mir's trust issues are going away anytime soon, though I just love, LOVE their character so much!

I had no idea this might extend to a trilogy and YAY I am so excited for what's to come. The Malthusian world is such an interesting take on the omega verse, and is by far the most fleshed-out story out there, especially in terms of world building. So much to absorb, to cry, to hate, to pull out hair to. But at the end of the day, this patriarchal society might have something to offer.

I am so in love with this series and can't wait to read about what's next in store for these two (plus Mir's three, of course)!

I have been waiting for this book for so long, and damn, it didn’t disappoint.
The second book in the Malthusia series is an absolute page-turner! The revelations and twists keep you on the edge of your seat the entire ride. Even though Mir and Tav finally gave in to their feelings for each other, their deep-seated fears and secrets are tearing them apart on a psychological level. With the close arrival of Mir’s babies, the stakes have never been higher as they desperately search for ways to overcome both their internal struggles and the external forces working against them.
Even though it may not have the same level of angst and tragedy as the first book, it's packed with the essential connection and bonding that the characters desperately need. As Mir is working to get back on their feet and becomes more confident and dominating, Tav is finally starting to appreciate the essential Mir-pleasing attachments he’d grown--balls.
You NEED to read this book. Trust me, you won't be able to put it down. I can’t wait for the book 3!

Again!!! Sigh

I love both books. Please tell me I will not have to wait years for the next book. I am 68 years old I don't have years to wait. You are an excellent world builder and story teller. Reading your work is a joy for me.

4.5 stars - outstanding follow-up to the first book. Tav and Mir have got to start working on better communication. But, they’ve come a long way. Now, Tav just has to tell them about his conversations with Zepish, the Mother Superior of a ridiculous religion that reminded me of Catholicism, and of course, what happened with Sakish and Zepish at Tav’s father’s estate. Yeah, lots to unload there.
The birth of the babies was sweet and I wasn’t actually all that surprised by their “abnormalities” as I’d been expecting something like it. I am definitely looking forward to the third book to see the progression of the storyline.

An excellent follow up to Fate (Malthusia #1).
A little less dark but certainly not without angst. Emotional rollercoaster may be an overused phrase but it feels appropriate.
Another HFN and mild cliffhanger ending. I hope it doesn’t take too long for book 3 so we can get the answers and the resolution we need.

part 2

Wow, this is a really messed up world. The amount of assault with both characters over the course of both books is alarming and makes this world really messed up. I have never read a scene where the male figure is sexually assaulted in the way that Tav was, it was extremely sexual and absolutely mortifying at the same time. There is also something huge happening in this that clearly is being developed and is very complex. I got lost in some of the extra details but I hope the next book isn’t too far in the future.

One of the best series I've read

Another amazing book from Emma Jaye that always manages to raise all the feelings! I've been in motherly love with these two characters,as at them, they made me roll my eyes and they made me want to strangle them like Homer to Burt. I've been mad at everybody for most of the book(s) but most of all I was left with the crazy want of reading the next chapter of this saga.

I LOVE this story

Mir and Tavish have become my favorite characters and they both have come so far since the first book but I still almost cried for them both multiple times throughout this series. I did not expect that from Zepish, although I’m not surprised that there’s an evil cult behind the scenes, I still want him to suffer more than he has so far. No matter how justified he feels about what he’s done.
I am facilitated to see what else makes the babies so different and how everything works out with the vail in the next book.

Second book in the Malthusian world, based on the problems and troubles we left hanging at the end of the first part.
Although perhaps not as excruciating physically as the first book's storyline, the psychological buildup from it all is exquisitely tortuous.
As the plot unfolds, mysterious meanings and happenings become, on the one hand, more mysterious and on the other hand, give the reader more explanations to ponder.
The uncomfortable problems that the two types of Malthusians able to reproduce undergo are tortuously depicted, in devastating detail.
Definitely a good continuation, and also just as assuredly not the end of the story. Although it ends in a nice, warm HFN, the paranoia built up throughout this recounting doesn't allow the reader to actually believe that things won't go terribly bad...in a probably not so distant future.

I love this realm. Not sure if we'll see more of it but I'd sure love to. Ticks so many boxes for me. Excellent writing, highly original content and well worked out.
It has been over a week now, I've moved on to two books already, but I haven't quite left Malthusia yet. This place is so complete, while still retaining the necessary mystery and intrigue. Great protagonists, some good, grey or evil helps too. In fact, they're all grey to a degree, which makes them all the more relatable. There's so much still to work with, I can only hope this will be picked up again. Damn, in my head, I'm doing it myself, hehe.

Of course I loved it. I knew I would. Mir keeps being the amazing character I fell in love with in the first installment and Tav is giving me more reasons to love just as much as I do Mir.

The plot keeps bringing some new and enthralling element to an already amazing story. The secondary characters also keep making themselves noticed and always have a interesting story to tell. The more I get myself into this world, it becomes more fascinating. The emotions are so strong and some events so exciting that I just have to take few moments to calm myself before I can keep reading. It is amazing. I can't wait to read the next one.

This was just phenomenal. I have no other words. I’m literally hoping book 3 is the works, because I swear every year I can only find one MM book that is actually worth reading and this is it for me.

loved it

This was an incredible follow up to the first book. The world created is fascinating, and full of so many details, and characters are so nuanced. How am I meant to wait for the next book?!

This was good. But again, the boring cliffhanger kinda killed the rating.
It, at least, could have ended with a knock on the door. Like, legit, "Then, there was a knock at the door..."
With all the tension building and unanswered questions in this book, an ending like the one mentioned above would have been so much more captivating.
And while I will read the next book because I love the world building and I want to see how their story ends, it now feels more like a drag rather than something to anticipate. And that's assuming it doesn't take another 4 years for book 3 to be released.
Hopefully, I remember all the important details about this book by the time the next one rolls around. If not, then this is where it ends for me because I am not motivated to reread 900+ pages (books 1 & 2 combined) just to jog a memory of books that ended so dully.

Phew. Another intense read from Emma Jaye. For the entire book, I waivered between jumping to the next chapter and closing the book so I could think about what I just read.

I am struggling to review this book because pieces of it felt so personal. The challenges that Mir faces happen in a fictional world, but Mir's emotions and struggles are very real.

I read the entire original Dune series, I was completely enamored with Frank Herbert's writing.
I suspect that I have become equally enamored with Emma Jaye's books for some of the same reasons. Science fiction mixed with science fact and expertly layered tension make for an engaging read.

Malthusia genome is the second book in this dystopian romance series and it starts where the first book ended. The suspense begins right away.
In this series scientists have combined human and animal dna and have created a new species. Malthusians live in harmony with nature, away from humans. They are protected by a veil and their goal is to save the planet. In this world there are alphas, betas and omegas. Alphas are at the top of the hierarchy in the society and omegas are considered property. This is common in omegaverse books but the way the world works in Malthusia is extremely unique and honestly the most interesting take on an omegaverse story. The world building is phenomenal and the characters are complex and deep. I adore the two protagonists, Mir and Tav, with all my heart. Mir especially is my favorite character ever. The suspense plotline that continues from the first book is dark and heartbreaking and absolutely thrilling. There were moments that I was so scared for the characters my heart was pounding and I was literally biting my fingernails .I was so immersed in the story, I got completely lost in it. I cried so much and I hate the bad guys with a passion. I want them to get punished in the worst way possible for all the horrendous things they've done. The pacing of the book was stunning. I was hooked from page one and I didn't want to stop reading.
In the second book we learnt more things about how the world works and there were some surprising revelations about the secret experiments and who is behind them. Some characters from Mir and Tav's past came back and complicated things for them.
If you've read the first book and you were anxiously waiting for the second I promise you're going to love every word. It was really worth the wait and very satisfying.
And if you've never read the series I highly recommend it, it's my favorite book of the year.
I can't stop thinking about this world and these characters. The moment I finished it I went back and reread my favorite parts. I desperately need the next book. It doesn’t end with a cliffhanger, it’s HFN, but Mir and Tav are far from safe.

It's just one agonizing event after another. I would not place this as MM in any way. This was dark, depressing and unhealth. Needs lots of warning. Clearly the author was going someplace with this I just did not feel or see it. This series is awesome for the stat of mind and it hurt to finish it. Toxic in so many way.
