Damaged is the second in a series called The Catherine Chronicles about a young nun Catherine MacDonald who leaves the priory to discover her family's history and along the way learns much about the world and herself.
In the first of the series, Forbidden, Catherine learns of her mother’s depraved life with the Sawney Bean Clan. On a windswept beach in Scotland, she watches alongside her companion, Tom King, as clan members emerge from their secret cave, but her mother is not among them. Justice is swift and final for the clan.
In Damaged Catherine comes to the realization that she will forever be judged by her mother’s legacy – and forever tainted by it. Although she valiantly tries to reestablish respectability, she is shamed and violated on her return journey to Essex. Back at the priory, she is shunned by many, and then the final blow, excommunication. Strong-minded and determined, Catherine decides to leave England for the New World where she hopes and dreams for a new life.
