Molly
I haven’t beeninterested in dating since my ex dumped me for a new girl at his law office. Since then, I’ve thrown myself into my work as a hotel gift shop designer. While being single isn’t what I expected, there’s truth to that old saying, “Once bitten, twice shy.” And the bite of a cheater stays with you.

Christmas can be a particularly vulnerable time, which is why I accepted a job right before the holidays. I had no idea the lodge that hired me was also hosting a singles' event. Imagine my surprise when they had a last-minute cancellation and asked me if I wanted to join them.

Blake
When I left LA for my dream job in Chicago, I never dreamed by first assignment would be spending two weeks in Elk Lake, Wisconsin, covering the Midwestern Matchmaker’s new venture to set up Chicagoland singles. I’m a sports journalist for Pete's sake, not some airheaded twit who writes about the lovelorn.

Unfortunately, the job I transferred for isn’t open yet, so here I am. In Wisconsin. Living my worst nightmare. There is no way anybody is going to find love at this thing. No way.

So, imagine my surprise when the most awkward woman in the world trips over me …

I love this series so much and Whitney Dineen is one of my favorite authors so it hurts me that this was not my favorite of the series. The trademark wit and humor are present as are the wonderful writing overall but these characters felt flat to me and I never warmed to them. I did enjoy the story overall but never really rooted for Blake and Molly as a couple. I loved Ben and his family and the other participants of the weekend (I’d love a story about Olivia and Ronald), and, of course, the cameos from former characters but Blake and Molly were not my cup of tea.

I received a copy form the author for an honest review.

Miracles really do happen at Christmas. And saying that, take note that if you’re the least, tiniest bit tenderhearted, do not read this book in public. There are some big emotional scenes in here that turned me into a sodden, weepy mess; including the incredible ending. I had a lot of fun watching Blake and Molly’s bumbling attempts to both connect and resist one another, and I cackled with evil glee knowing they’d never manage that last one. It’s pretty easy to spot the bomb that was going to blow up in their faces, but I still madly flipped pages to discover when it would go off and what the fallout would be. Blake’s groveling game was quite impressive, though I thought their reconciliation was almost too easy. But I was also crying so hard at that point (not over Blake and Molly) that I think I would have been happy for just about any way to bring these two back together. I also really enjoyed seeing so many of our favorite characters from previous books and I feel like I need to go back to the beginning and read the whole series again now.

This is my first book by Whitney Dineen and I really enjoyed this story!

The last place Blake wants to be is at a singles event in Wisconsin, but he was assigned there as the reporter covering the Midwestern Matchmaker event; so here he is. Molly also finds herself in Wisconsin to help Trina, who is running the matchmaker event with her gift shop at the hotel that she owns. When there is a cancellation Molly is invited to attend the matchmakers event at the last minute. Neither of them are expecting what is in store for them.

What a fun idea for a book! Pity Present delivers lots of humor and opens with the funniest meet cute. I was laughing so hard at the “I'm not a lumberjack” line and the book delivered plenty more laughs after that. Molly and Blake were off to such an awkward start, but grew to be such an endearing couple. I loved them both! Molly finds Blake attractive and he makes her laugh. Blake finds her cute and clumsy. The two have a bit of a journey with each other because Blake puts Molly in the friend zone fast, as he doesn’t want to start a relationship under false pretenses with the job he has to do. I was rooting for these two all the way. My heart was certainly touched during this story plus Blake’s grand gesture proves that Christmas is a time for miracles. Make sure you add this one to your holiday reading list. You won’t be disappointed.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! You can count on humor and entertainment from Whitney Dineen. This book delivers it plentifully. There are also several heart touching themes too!

I loved the main characters, Molly and Blake. The more I read, the more they wormed their way into my heart. I was definitely rooting for them to find their happy ending.

Christmas is a time for miracles. You will want to read this book and believe in miracles too! What a fun and wonderful comedy of errors this is. But, beware! You will find your heartstrings pulled as well. I can’t recommend this enough!

I really liked Molly. While she and Blake both were not initially open to finding someone new at the Midwestern Matchmaker singles' event, I do appreciate the fact that Molly did open up to the idea and actually enjoy the experience. This is not so much the same for Blake. He is obsessed a bit too much about his job.

As the saying goes, "You don't appreciate someone right in front of you, until they are gone." I wanted to shake Blake and tell him to wake up. Can't you see that Molly is standing right in front of you. Luckily, he figures it out but not first without falling on his face, which is how Blake and Molly first met.

I enjoyed getting to meet Ben and his parents. The moment where Ben and Molly where in her gift shop discussing items that she should stock in the shop was sweet.

Cute and short but dear god this sister might be the most meddling and narcissistic person alive. Imagine how much you hated Snape until ‘always’ that’s how I feel about her.

I loved the idea of a single retreat that is focused on finding love and NOT just a hook up the way most actually are(never been to one but I have it on good authority it’s the case)

The best part of the book is definitely the side plot with Ben, you’ll see! If anything the feelings around helping him are deeper than the romance

This is kissing only as far as spice.

The having a secret identity is right up there with the miscommunication trope for me, really not my bag.

Pity Present is another great installment in the pity series with the small town charm, fantastic characters and LOL humor.

Although it does take place in December, it feels more Christmas adjacent versus a festive holiday story, making it a great read any time of the year.

Whitney is an auto read author to me. Every book I have read by her I have loved. I easily connect with her writing and her sense of humor is so on point!

Whitney Dineen’s Pity series takes place in the small town of Elk Lake, Wisconsin. Full of well-rounded characters, this series of standalones reads better in publication order, since you’ll get the satisfaction of seeing what’s happening with the characters even after they cease to be the main focus. CAN you read them out of order? Sure. SHOULD you? That’s up to you.

All of these books feature women who have lots of spunk and personality, but haven’t been lucky in love. Many cover parental relationships, what it’s like to be a woman in business, and other issues reflected in modern society. None of the female leads is obsessed with appearance; all clearly enjoy good food and none is a size 2.

All have references to popular culture, just enough to ground them in the modern day. Recurring characters—even those who are not the focus of the story—are well rounded. It’s also fun to see the hints for what characters could be the focus of later books.

I also love the little bits of unimportant continuity, like the apartment above the yarn shop—first Melissa lives there, then Trina rents it for a summer, and finally, Lorelei considers moving there.

It’s now two years since the first book was published, as the sixth is hitting the market. Time passes a little faster in Elk Lake, as you will see with references to Pity Date’s Faith and Teddy in Pity Play.

Who Might Like These Books:
Romcom fans, especially those who like imperfect characters and small towns..

My Thoughts:
For me, this was the most forgettable of the stories. It was well set up at the end of the previous book. It makes good use of prior characters—particularly Melissa and Sammy. Trina is quite present for the third time. But something about the lead characters here just didn’t quite do it for me.

The B-plot of helping a child with leukemia to realize a dream of courtside seats at a Bulls game was delightful. Molly’s ideas for serving the special needs visitors to the lodge were on point. But something about the two-week singles event just didn’t click.

First, how do forty people get two weeks off right before Christmas to stay in a nice hotel and meet other singles? I’m having trouble suspending my disbelief here.

The event itself was fine. Trina’s ideas for helping people meet each other were actually kind of fun.

I think a lot of my problem is with Blake’s “I don’t want to get involved”/”I don’t want Molly dating anyone else”. You can’t have it both ways, dude. I know it’s common in romcoms, but in this one particularly it rubs me the wrong way.

And Molly’s big sister…ugh. She’s just so entitled about “managing” Molly’s love life, while making a disaster of her own. No thank you.

Possible Objectionable Material:
Very mild cursing. Indications that unmarried adults have sex. Mention of LGBTQ people. Adults drink alcohol. Infidelity. Very ill children.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Pity Present by Whitney Dineen transports us to Elk Lake, Wisconsin, where the lodge owned by Trina Rockwell and Heath Fox is a hub of diverse activities. Trina, the former host of The Midwestern Matchmaker, found her love, and together with her fiancée, they opened the lodge. Here, Trina's matchmaking skills are put to use. Still, the lodge offers many other activities, making it a unique and exciting destination where families with children struggling with disabilities find solutions and make a getaway possible.

Molly Anders works as a gift shop reinventor for the hospitality industry. Molly has an older sister, Ellen, who is overprotective and interferes in Molly's life, not because she doesn't have enough things happening in her own life. Ellen was married to Don but asked for a divorce on their first wedding anniversary. Ellen has been dating a wonderful family man named Henry, who has children from his previous marriage, but Ellen has some serious baggage from her first marriage. Ellen is a writer for Chicago Wind and has set her sister up for a singles event at the Elk Lake Lodge under the guise that it's work-related. Molly had been dating Kyle Williams for two years, but he broke up with her to date Amelia. Amelia broke up with Kyle and is now married to someone else. All's fair in love and war.

Blake Walsh is a sports journalist who returned to his hometown in Chicago to write for the Chicago Wind. However, the person he is taking over the column was to retire, but he has extended his retirement date. Therefore, Blake's boss, Gillian, has assigned Blake to cover the new Matchmaker event at Elk Lake Lodge undercover, and he is not happy about this assignment.

Whitney Dineen writes hilarious, outrageous stories, and while this one has all the makings, it also deals with serious issues about children with cancer and other disabilities, as we see firsthand with Ben and his parents. However, Whitney still brings it all and gives her readers what they want: a happy ending.

🛑Read on with caution; review may contain spoilers🛑

I love a good holiday romance, but I found it difficult to connect with the main characters in Pity Present, especially with Blake, a sports writer on an undercover assignment to write about Trina’s matchmaking mixers at her new lodge. Though I know his intentions were good and he’s been forced to lie about his job while initially stringing Molly along for the ride (before realizing he wants to pursue her for real), I really couldn’t fathom a beginning of a relationship based on lies especially when Molly has explicitly stated she does not like to be lied to because of her past experience being cheated on by her ex-boyfriend, Kyle. Blake's very big and public romantic grand gesture to win Molly back also didn’t sit well with me; from Molly’s personality (she seemed like an introvert and very shy), I was actually surprised she enjoyed his gesture, but I would have hoped Blake planned a grand gesture far more suitable for Molly’s personality.

I found Molly’s character endearing though and enjoyed her and Blakes charming relationship with the child Ben who has been diagnosed with cancer; their interactions with him, although short instances, were very heartwarming and I did love the ending with a miracle involved.

Out of the entire Pity series, this is by far my least favorite, but I did enjoy the charming and endearing characters like Molly and Ben, and the Christmas miracle ending.

Pity Present is a romantic comedy that follows the story of Blake Walsh, a sportswriter who reluctantly accepts an assignment to cover a singles' event at the Elk Lake Lodge in Wisconsin. Blake, who dreams of writing about sports, is forced to go undercover as a single man seeking love in order to write compelling stories about the event for his newspaper, the Chicago Wind.

Blake's assignment leads him to encounter a cast of quirky and interesting characters, including Molly Anders, a gift shop consultant who is also attending the event. Molly is initially drawn to Blake, but his disinterest in her and his secret identity as a reporter create obstacles in their budding relationship. The story unfolds through a series of humorous and heartwarming events, including awkward mixers, romantic encounters, and unexpected twists. As Blake spends more time at the lodge, he begins to question his initial cynicism about love and matchmakers.

Pity Present is a lighthearted and engaging read that will appeal to fans of romantic comedies. The characters are relatable and the dialogue is witty. The story is well-paced and keeps the reader guessing until the very end.

Both Blake and Molly have been hurt in the past, but they are given the opportunity to find love again at the Elk Lake Lodge. Blake's deception creates a major rift in his relationship with Molly, highlighting the importance of honesty in any relationship. Blake is initially unsure of his place in the world, but his experiences at the lodge help him to find his true calling. Despite their initial reservations, Blake and Molly find themselves falling for each other in the most unlikely of places.

Overall, Pity Present is a charming and entertaining read that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.

Pity Present is the fifth story in Whitney Dineen’s Pity romantic comedies set in Elk Lake, Wisconsin. Pity Present will be better understood and enjoyed if read after Pity Parade. This is a clean holiday romance that doesn’t contain any sex or profanities.

Molly is focusing on her career after being dumped by her boyfriend. She has just accepted a new job as a hotel gift shop designer at a lodge. She’s surprised when management invites her to join the singles’ event that is being held at the lodge due to a cancellation. Molly’s overbearing sister has very firm ideas about Molly’s love life.

Blake is a sports journalist from Los Angeles who has just relocated to Chicago. He’s unhappy about being sent on an assignment to Elk Lake, Wisconsin, to cover the Midwestern Matchmaker’s new venture to set up Chicagoland singles. He meets Molly right away in a hilarious and awkward encounter on the train. Unfortunately he can’t reveal his identity to Molly and lies to her because of his job.

Molly and Blake are attracted to one another but it’s bad timing for them to get involved romantically. Molly’s sister interferes in their relationship until Molly develops a backbone and puts her in her place. Blake’s lies sabotage their burgeoning romance, so he makes an over-the-top gesture to win her back.

I enjoyed the continuation of the storyline and seeing the earlier characters’ relationships develop more. I’m a sucker for Christmas rom-coms and Pity Present is a fun escapist weekend read. I really liked that the madcap romance plotline is balanced by the heartbreak in young Ben’s life. I truly hope that this author writes more books in this Pity series.

Solid "Secret Identity" Romance Where Side Character Nearly Steals Show. This is one of those romances where there are a lot of instances of "oh, you happen to be here and look who else happens to be here" bits, particularly in the setup. Which leads to a lot of miscommunications and assumptions, and you know what they say about "assume". Still, it totally works in the usual Hallmarkie and zany way, and if you're down for that kind of story, you're going to enjoy this one. If the secret identity/ happenstance/ assumption setup isn't your bag... eh, you probably won't enjoy this one as much.

And then... one particular side character. Not going into this character at all other than to note that this character does in fact nearly steal the entire damn book, and indeed, it almost feels like there are more "real" emotions as our main characters interact with this character than with each other. Which is probably not the best thing in a romance book, but hey, at least there are "real" and touching moments *somewhere*, right?

As to spice level... this one is far closer to a warm glass of milk than a Carolina Reaper. So there again, know that up front and read (or not) according to your own tastes there. For those that *must* have sex of some form (open door/ closed door) in their romance books... eh, I think that speaks more to you than the author, but just know that this is NOT present in this book.

Overall I think the book worked well as a continuation of its series, including having a few characters from earlier books come back and play pivotal roles (and, for those that despise spoilers of any form, absolutely read the earlier books in the series before getting to this one).

Very much recommended.

ARC Review:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Molly’s job curating hotel gift-shops takes her all over the country. So when she books a job in Elk Lake, Wisconsin (right before Christmas) she doesn’t bat an eye. However, she is shocked to discover her latest job is the site of a singles event. Still reeling from a nasty breakup, Molly plans to steer clear at all costs. But when her boss insists she participate, she finds herself in precarious situations.

I first discovered Whitney Dineen’s writing last year when I read the multi-author series, Love on Thin Ice. After reading and falling in love with her writing in, Breaking the Ice, I knew I had to get my hands on more of her work. So when I saw Pity Present, a holiday romcom, I jumped on the opportunity to read it.

Pity Present is the fifth book in Dineen’s Pity Series. Despite not having read the first four books, I was able to dive right in and enjoy this story. I love that the series, while interconnected, can be read and enjoyed both individually as standalone novels or as a whole.

There was so much to love about this book, I don’t know where to even begin.

1. The cover. How stinking adorable is it? The cover art reminded me of a retro, pinup comic.

2. The love story. Molly and Blake were one of my favorite couples. I love how they oscillated between enemies and friends. The tension made for the most delicious banter.

3. The character development. The secondary plot line ( featuring Ben and his parents) drove home how incredibly sweet and caring both Molly and Blake are. While they each endured pain in their past, they channeled it into helping others.

Be sure to read this book if you enjoy:
-hidden identity
-friend zoned
-small town
-laugh out loud dialogue
-heartwarming plot line

Special thanks to Netgalley and Whitney Dineen for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I cannot wait to read the rest of the Pity Series!!!

This is going to be your top read this holiday season. It is wonderful and full of emotion. Be warned my fellow readers, it is a tear jerker. I could not control the emotions this book pulled from me. It is full of Christmas Miracles that you are not going to want to miss.

Molly and Blake are the center of this epic holiday read. Molly is a sweet and caring individual, whom at times feels suffocated by her sister. Hurt by an ex and focused on her career, Molly takes a job at Elk Lodge. The same lodge our good friends Trina and Heath own.

Now that Trina is out of the TV business, she is still meddling in all things love. So it is no surprise that she is throwing a singles event at her lodge. She just loves matching couples together and I got to say she is quiet good at it. Enter stage left Molly and Blake. The rest as they say it is history.....

This book was sweet, heartbreaking and entertaining. It has a combination of emotions that readers will experience throughout each chapter. You will experience love, anger, betrayal, hurt, sadness, loss and fun times. It is a rollercoaster ride of emotion and a book that you just can't put down. This page turner is sure to give you the feel good vibes this holiday season. This book is definitely a Hallmark Movie worthy read.

I love this series and this one is my top fav in the series. I cannot wait to read more.

This is a standalone, holiday romance.

Ok, so I had mixed feelings about most of the characters in this book, and I think I both disliked and liked them all at some point.

Molly and Blake seemed perfect for each other if it wasn't for all the lies Blake has to tell. She did seem to have a big soft spot for him. Can't say I was happy with the huge apology gesture from Blake, it just didn't seem like something Molly would actually want, and I'm unsure why it would have even taken place when nobody in the stadium would have a clue who they were.

I found Molly a little weak at first, but she quickly got herself a backbone, and I really enjoyed her character. Her job did confuse me and seemed a bit pointless. She just asked everyone else what to do. Her sister was very interfering and judgemental over who Molly should be dating. Luckily, Molly knows just how to handle her.

Blake, I think I could have liked a lot more than I did, I found him charming and funny, but his lies over his job ruined his relationship with Molly, he definitely could have explained everything so much better without revealing too much.

The relationship with Ben, a small child at the resort, played a lovely part in the story and his family played a staring role in Molly & Ben's story.

Overall, this was a sweet, small town romance.

Ben & Molly ❤️

🫎Molly is a hotel gift shop consultant, and she’s been hired by the newly opened Elk Lake Lodge to help set up their gift shop. While she’s there for two weeks, the owner, Trina, asks her to participate in their singles event.

🏀Sports journalist Ben is moving from LA to his hometown of Chicago, but before he starts working, his boss forces him into writing a piece about former TV matchmaker Trina and her wealthy husband Heath’s new lodge, and spend two weeks participating in a singles event there.

🎄Both Molly and Ben have been hurt in their previous relationships and haven’t been up to dating again. When they meet on the way to Elk Lodge, the attraction is there from the start, but can they get it right?

📚Pity Present is book 5 in author Whitney Dineen’s Pity series, with singles finally finding their happily ever after’s. This book has some common characters, but can definitely be read as a standalone story. There’s a little bit of friend-zoning, some miscommunication/ bending of the truth for Ben’s work, but most of all, it’s a story about trusting our hearts and not letting fear of what can go wrong rule. Ben and Molly are both kind and caring individuals, and it shows in their interactions with each other and those around them.

This series is the absolute best, and this latest addition is no exception. Pity Present is the perfect cozy, holiday read for anyone looking for a fun, sweet, and a little bit awkward romance! Molly and Blake are two wonderfully relatable characters who will make you laugh out loud while rooting for them to find love (and maybe a little holiday magic).
Molly’s reluctance to date again after her painful breakup adds a layer of depth to her character, and watching her navigate the chaos of a singles’ event at is both hilarious and heartwarming. Then there's Blake, a sports journalist who, in a twist of fate, ends up covering a matchmaking event he could care less about. His sarcastic and cynical attitude makes him the perfect foil to Molly’s more reserved, thoughtful nature.
The chemistry between them is undeniable, and their awkward, meet-cute moments are the best kind of charming. What starts as a clumsy mishap turns into an endearing connection, and it’s hard not to get swept up in their story. With its blend of humor, vulnerability, and festive charm, this book will leave you smiling long after you’ve turned the last page. If you’re looking for a lighthearted read with a sprinkle of romance and holiday cheer, then Pity Present is an absolute must-read!

Pity Present is the fifth book in the Pity Series. I have not personally read the previous books in the series and found that this one could be enjoyed just fine as a standalone as well.

This was a really fun holiday read! The last thing either Blake or Molly expected for their holiday season was to find themselves at a singles event... yet that's just where they find themselves. He is a sports reporter who has been tasked to write about the event despite his protests. She is at the lodge for her job as a gift shop designer but is asked to join in when there is a cancellation. The two already had an awkward meeting and their chemistry is obvious right away... but because he can't be honest about why he's there, he doesn't want to start a relationship built on a lie. There is certainly a lot for these two to work out, but it was fun watching them figure it all out! I enjoyed the holiday vibes and their sweet romance, but I also really loved the addition of Ben and his family into the story... it added so much heart to the story! If you're looking for a fun holiday romance, this is definitely one you'll want to check out!

Pity Present is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.

Christmastime + Whitney Dineen = A fantastic read with Pity Present!

Molly was my kind of girl: Flustered, fumbly, and oh so adorable! She should have no problem meeting someone, but her cheating ex made jumping into something new feel like a bad investment. While on a work assignment, she is asked to be a part of a two week dating event to help fill a recent cancelation. New job, new adventure, Molly was ready to move on... but just like her two left feet, moving forward is not always a straight line.

Blake, on the other hand, doesn't believe in meeting someone special through anything but the old-fashioned way. But when his job is on the line and he has to go to a two week singles event out of town to write about it, well he might find himself surprised when he meets Molly and all her adorable quirks.

Loved the meet cute and was cheering them on, even through Blake's moral dilemma. This is another fantastic book in such a sweet, funny series.

Pity Present is the 5th book in the Pity series, and this one has a holiday feel.

Molly really isn't interested in dating and has thrown herself into her work. So, when she takes a job at a lodge right before the holidays, she's not really interested in the single's event that is also taking place. Blake moved across the country for his dream job, but his first assignment is not what he signed up for. Writing an article about a matchmaking single's event isn't what he wants to do, and he definitely isn't interested in dating anyone that he meets there, but then he meets Molly...

Each of the books in this series can be read as standalones, but you may enjoy the story even more if you've read the previous books. Like all of the books in this series, this story is filled with comical moments although there is a more serious tone to this story at times. This is still a lighter read with very little spice, but heavy on the Christmas miracles. If you're putting together your holiday TBR, be sure to add this one to the Nice List.

i read an arc copy of this book and have decide to review it as follows

This book had all the feels from Excitement, to sadness, laughter and suspense it was a rollercoaster of a well written easy to follow romance book

The book itself is part of a series that don’t need to be read in any particular order but you do encounter some characters from the previous story’s

The book was based on Molly who’s a product manager as such she basically goes into shops and gift shops and helps them with ideas on what would or possibly wouldn’t work who by chance is single and on route to a inn where a singles matchmaking event is taking place to help them with their gift shop
On route she meets Blake a spots writer for a news outlet who has been assigned before beginning his job on sports to write an article about the event incognito

The book is like a lust at first sight for both partys but either only one of them actively looking to actually meet and settle down it’s a kind of will they won’t they senario

Another hilarious couple get themselves into all sorts of trouble in this book.

Blake is a sports writer and he's just relocated from LA to Chicago to work for the Chicago Wind. However his job isn't open at the moment so his editor sends him to write a piece on matchmaking at a lodge in Wisconsin.

Molly is a freelance gift shop designer and her loving but interfering sister asks her to do a design for a shop in a lodge in Wisconsin.

No prizes for guessing where the meet-cute takes place!

"One look at his hazelly green eyes and chiseled jaw renders me nearly speechless."

"My problem is that Molly is so incredibly endearing, all I want to do is talk to her and get to know her better."

In true Whitney Dineen fashion the path to true love runs anything but smooth. Much humour, jocularity and a Christmas miracle ensues making this yet another fun romp in the lead up to Christmas.

🎀So-o-o good: festive, touching & mistletoe not required!🎁

Author Whitney Dineen pulled out all the stops for this sweet holiday romance set at a Mid-Western luxury lodge in the weeks just before Christmas. Blake and Molly, the principal couple, are so fun together and there's some serious Make a Wish magic for a sick little boy and his parents. Every scene with young Ben got to my heart. The whole thing is heartwarming and just a fantastic read.

The pages flew by because Dineen has such a great way with the written word. Background descriptions are not overly detailed so she focuses on the characters and what they do in easy prose with a whimsical edge. It's not deluged with introspection and that makes it feel fresh, well-paced and positive. And I found even Molly's grumpy, pushy, older sister Ellen, contributed to the overall good vibes plot.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Believe!
Book 5 in this series and it can certainly be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

However I recommend reading each book in this series as they each tell a poignant story of the obstacles and challenges of dating.

This author writes stories with the most unique titles that have a meaning in the story… one of the fun things in reading her titles is discovering that meaning!

This installment was so heartfelt and poignant, a situation that in the real world of dating can be challenging and full of angst. Here we see a situation where good things happen when you least expect it!

Well paced, with characters so realistic and funny I wanted to meet them! The build up, the unexpected situations that were so charming and endearing.
The hilarious situations intertwined with heart wrenching ones make this story a compelling and poignant story of love and second chances in life when you least expect it!

I’d been dying to read Pity Present, the most recent book in Whitney Dineen’s “Pity” series, and it did not disappoint!

Blake, a sports journalist starting a new job, finds himself coerced into going undercover at a singles event. Molly is at the same resort for work, and is invited to the same singles event as a perk of her job. Neither one is intending to look for love but they are drawn to each other regardless. The witty, fun banter and comical events we’ve all come to expect in a Whitney Dineen book ensue as our coupe get to know each other and fall in love.

TW: This book does touch on serious topics like childhood cancer and death. However, these topics do not detract from an uplifting, happy plotline. They add depth and hope to the story.

I would 100% recommend this book, and can’t wait to see what Whitney has for us next!

How much fun was this one? Tons!

I enjoy the writing style of this author, and happily settled in with this book. It was hard to stop reading, so I suggest planning your time. I was surprised at the way this storyline wove around Molly and Blake, but also the visitors to the resort where these two meet. The emotions around their selfless actions was heartwarming, and their chemistry kept the pages flipping!

I wasn't a fan of the deceptions (from a few people), but in the scheme of the story, they were needed. I always love a great 'Grand Gesture', and this was a good one! All in all, I enjoyed my time with these characters, and their journey to their HEA.

My recommendation is to go one-click this one, grab your hot cocoa, and enjoy your time with this one. I was fortunate to receive a complimentary copy of this one, and happily leave my review.

We're back in Elk Lake and Whitney brings us this brilliant story that is not only hilarious but it's also heartwarming. Molly has a lot going on in her family which could be a whole other book. But now working at the newly opened singles retreat, working for the former host of Midwest Matchmaker when your not looking for love well let's say its funny in itself. Blake is looking forward to starting his new journalist job funds himself conned into going undercover at the newest singles retreat event. Really. This turns into a mix of funny banter and hilarious outings that will have you rolling with laughter. This is what Whitney brings to her stories easily but at the same time mentioning difficult subjects compassionately, It's what we've come to expect. I can't recommend this series enough it's the present that keeps giving ❤️📖📚❤️

Molly and Blake have a “meet cute” that’s awkward for Molly. She can’t seem to stop being clumsy and blurting out oddities around him.
Blake is grumpy about the job he’s been forced into for two weeks at a singles retreat before the Christmas holidays.
The two have chemistry and attraction, but Blake friend zones Molly because he can’t tell her the truth about why he’s at the resort.
It’s a cute story with lots of funny moments and some really heartwarming aspects that are perfect for a holiday romance.
There are a few secretive things going on that complicate things and turn out to be quite sweet and thoughtful.
I like the characters both primary and secondary. The story is paced well and I enjoyed the plot.
The misunderstanding’s were realistic, the emotional plot lines were relatable and I appreciated how they played out.
There’s just enough holiday “magic”, heartwarming moments and sweet romance to make this a great holiday read. The spice level is low, it’s more of a slow, sweet romance. I enjoyed the story and was rooting for all of the colorful characters to have their happily ever after.

Handsome Sports reporter Blake Walsh dream position has now turned into his greatest nightmare. Molly must go to Elk Lake for work and ends up wrapped up in a singles event she wasn’t expecting. From the moment Molly and Blake meet you can’t help but fall in love with them, from them trying to resist each other’s attraction to the pull they can’t seem to ignore. Their story will bring you humor, fun times, sad times, and heartfelt moments. Ben captivated my heart throughout the story. Trina and Heath huge heart with what they do at the lodge is simply admiring and inspiring. I love the message of togetherness, of helping others in need, of inspiring and going beyond to make dreams come true, but most of all the message of love and magic at Christmas time.
