DCI James Craig #2

One of the Broken: A DCI James Craig Mystery

Rate this book
You can run…but you can never hide from the truth

A man is found murdered in his home, bludgeoned to death. In his hand is a piece from a jigsaw puzzle. Despite being widely liked, someone harboured a deadly grudge.

DCI James Craig, who recently relocated from London to Fife to work with Police Scotland, leads a dedicated team tasked with unraveling the mystery behind the murder and the significance of the puzzling clue left behind. Despite the victim's seemingly spotless reputation, lingering shadows from his past hint at a possible motive.

As Craig delves into the victim's history, he uncovers the existence of a sinister alter ego that may have precipitated his demise, and the unsettling realisation that the killer may have more targets in mind.
With time ticking away, Craig races against the clock to identify potential victims before the tranquillity of the area is shattered by further bloodshed.

One of the Broken is the second in the new series by #1 bestselling author John Carson, author of the DCI Harry McNeil and DCI Sean Bracken series. For fans of David J Gatward, Andrew Raymond and JD Kirk

didn’t enjoy this one much

There seems to be many books about detectives in the UK. And they all seem very similar, detective moves from the big city to the sticks. Suddenly there’s a bunch of murders they need to solve. I wonder if AI is involved? This book devoted too much time to inane conversations between characters that had nothing to do with the plot, and not enough time making the plot seem believable.

Excellent!

Second novel continues from the end of the first. Read that book before this one to fully understand and enjoy the characters and bizarre situation in which they are involved. Another exciting mystery with lots of tentacles. The reader is left in suspense until the exciting finale!

The Craigs have moved back to Scotland outside of Edinburgh with Jimmy heading up the MIT with a new crew. After the reveal in first book, the couple are dealing with such grief. The case at hand has people being chopped up and all clues lead back 20 years to a group in Uni but why now? Some more personal issues will be revealed in the Craigs life as well.

This book was a lot tighter than book one and better for it….. But….. I’m not a fan of everything tying together on the last minute. Will I read more? Not sure.

It's OK, not the best written but I'm warming to some of the characters. However, the ending just felt very rushed.
